Amazon makes 51.1.1.0_user_511070220 update official - Fire TV General

For what it's worth, Amazon has today finally acknowledged the Fire TV update. They have updated the Device Software page and Remote Software page to list 51.1.1.0_user_511070220 as the latest device software version and 351 as the latest remote software version. They have also updated all of their help documentation and videos to reflect the new menus. None of these pages have been updated since the Fire TV launched.
Amazon hasn't specifically said so, but I assume this means they're happy with the current software and that the remaining devices that haven't received an update will be updated soon.

Excellent. A+ on being good community members. It looks like they released the updated source as well: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201452680

So I had no problems with my flirc with updates, and I've updated twice. But... I was screwing around, trying to finalize my recovery, and I noticed my flirc stopped working. Plugged it into my computer and it said it was in the bootloader. According to the forums, that's not supposed to happen. But I started up the Flirc program, it detected it was stuck in the bootloader, and it seemed to restore it and all my mappings are still there. I was repeatedly plugging and unplugging it. Not normal stuff, so I'm not too worried about it.

OTA Released (Root for manual update) - Flash on Market MAR18 (Leaked)

Motorola XOOM users on the Verizon Wireless network: starting tonight, a maintenance release is rolling out to you in phases, so watch for a notification on your device that will tell you when it’s ready for download. The update includes required enhancements to support Adobe® Flash® Player 10.2 (coming soon); it also includes a fix for a bug we identified with Daylight Savings time, so be sure to install it!

how will us with wifi only get this?
Any update is good news at this point I think. I wonder if there is any harm in updating, ie will it remove the ability to root and what not? I wish they would provide more details on what exactly the patch does. Also, it clearly says on the Verizon network, what about those not on it and are only on wifi?

MY droid always popped up updates even when I was only on wifi. I imagine we'll all get it or someone will post the update.zip anyway.
I'm curious if the Tegra 2 versions of flash (10.1) floating around will have something to interact with, and start functioning. They have with everything else. As soon as I get the OTA (no 3G), I have a folder full of them in my Dropbox.

Question of the day. No dialer :/
yesssssssssssss
Glad to see an update but there is nothing listed to get excited about except a possible problem with the upcoming daylight savings time switch. Who cares about the flash update since it does not actually include it. But this will be a good test run to see how the updates are sent out and applied.

You can force a check by rebooting. Not the best method, but it works.
Why do unlocked xooms need to get relocked?
I understand why you need to be on stock boot.img but i don't understand why you need to have the device relocked to get the update.
It makes no sense.

According to the system update tab this didn't happen in 3 reboots since the announcement. Still last check at 5:20. Really want to see if any of the 10.1 Tegra versions work after this. I've been frantic to have Flash lately (PlayOn/Netflix).

It might have a minimum time between checkins. Mine said 9:20am, then showed current time for last checkin when I rebooted.
So would it be fair to say that those of us who have rooted should wait until this update is released to see if in fact we really do need to revert back to stock/locked condition? Because I'd really be pissed if we had to lose all of the data on our Xooms just for this update, when very few of us have actually changed anything with the boot.img, etc. I mean back when I first rooted my N1 but before I flashed custom ROMs, I never had to wipe back to stock to receive OTA updates, so why would that be the case here??

[INFO] Update available for UK users

Just a quick note for people in the UK that a new update is now available including the keyboard firmware update, been using for the past hour and keyboard is now functional and is not dropping out, nor does the WiFi issue seem to be there, there is no indicator for battery level of the dock that had been discussed in other threads.
cheers - checked first thing this am but nothing available. Will check again after work.
Good to know. At least we have a rough timeframe now; we're about a week behind US updates. (if the pattern holds of course)
the update was there waiting for me this morning......not got 50% charge though!
Update finished ..... will keep you posted on performance
thanks for the heads-up. Already noticing an improvement with the dock the dock firmware is to the 0209 version and there is no dock battery meter present so it looks like they shipped the most recent US update.

yes got it here installed update for tablet and when it reboot it found the update for dock, not only has it solved the dock issues but the tablet seems alot more responsive and fluent.have to say this is great back up support from ASUS responding quickly to software bugs
yep..got it this morning...so far..so good...
Does it work on rooted device?
tablet and keyboard sucessfully updated, but prior to this update in 2 days of use I did not have any problem with the dock nor tablet.
The update is available also here in Italy bu I still didn't apply it on my transformer.
I am wondering if I will lose root and, in that case, if I will be able to root it again.

Same doubts here.....
Updated yesterday morning (in the UK) and this thing is awesome!!!! Bring on Honeycomb 3.1!!!
I updated yesterday evening and all went fine and quick. Before update only complaint I had was lag during typing on webpages but this doesn't seem to have been resolved at all as when typing on here it is a few seconds behind which means when I make a mistake I have to wait after every backspace which is annoying. Also it seems to lag more on web page scrolling, I swipe and then again wait. Will try again today after having powered it down and up again. Shame that they couldn't introduce the Caps lock light as a notification light like lit blinked during the update, that would be useful

[Q] Why do people expect ICS OTA to work on modified tablet?

The number of posts that I am seeing with "I modified my A500 and now the ICS update won't apply or my tablet won't boot" seem to be increasing.
How reasonable is it to expect that Acer should make assumptions about exactly what is on the tablet before running the OTA installation?
Surely, if you change any of the checksums on either the internal file systems or the boot loaders, then you are asking for the scripts to fail and for something to break...
Can you ever return a tablet that has been modified back to EXACTLY a factory default state?
Caveat Emptor...
Because there are a lot of incredibly stupid people out there, that's why.

Because 95% of people that, just for example, "root", don't know what they're doing. All they know is that it allows them to uninstall 'bloat', install tools they wouldn't normally be able to run without it, replace files and tamper with code and file content as advised by their peers to get this and that working 'better'. They follow directions to the T, use one click tools or get entire modified OSs and proceed to tinker and tamper with software they don't really understand. When the poop hits the fan, somehow the blame shifts off them completely to Acer and just about anyone else.

I agree with you on most of that, but you gotta remember that we all started somewhere and the best way to learn is by getting right into it and tinkering, I do agree that most people don't understand what they're getting into and simply refuse to learn when someone tries to correct them.

I sure hope so cos I'm getting frustrated each day the update refuses to arrive. To be honest, I think I'm done with Android tablets. Android tablets are meant for mods/hackers. OSs/tablets by Apple,RIM and Microsoft are meant for guys like me who don't want to tweak or install ROMs. When updates are released by these guys, owners of their devices definitely get them without all these hassles.
My next OS will be Windows 8. That OS I'm very familiar with

It was explained on Acer ANZ facebook page last year, cannot recall when, it was either with the release of 3.1 or 3.2, that the updates are done by the batch numbers set by google, not acer. the updates are hosted on futuredial so when it gets hammered it's not even acer servers to which i doubt they have any.
It seemes Acer has updated their Acer Update Enhancement app in the Google Play Store. It's supposed to help those who still haven't got the ICS update. Try it out and see if that helps?

New Software Update 7.3.1??

I was restoring my Kindle Fire HD 7 to stock so I could send it in for a replacement. As I was about to factory reset and send it back, my Kindle updated to 7.3.1!
Anyone know what's in this update?
I blanked out some info like the serial number and my name in the screenshot (if you are wondering what those boxes are)
You are the first to mention it on here.
This is a Kinology HD using XDA Premium
Doesn't appear so
According to Amazon's "Kindle Software Update" page, there is no indication that 7.3.1 has been released.
Have a look -> http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_left_sib?ie=UTF8&nodeId=201016350
My thoughts are something has gone wrong, you managed to do that accidentally, or you purposely did it (NOT blaming you just an option that I have to keep in mind, it could've been a joke and that's your sense of humor and that's fine, you do what you want).
I SERIOUSLY doubt that Amazon has yet to update the page before sending out another update. If someone else has this as well and proves it then we can all be a tad more sure that this is legitimate.
EDIT: Amazon has updated their software update page to 7.3.1, definitely confirming its existence.
Yeah I was confused as well when I couldn't find anything on the Amazon site. No I am not pulling anyone's leg either lol
I double checked my 'old' HD7 (that I am about to ship off to Amazon) and it still says 7.3.1..
This auto update happened on my old device a couple of minutes after I did this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2235403
My replacement device is at 7.3.0 (auto-updated from 7.2.1). Since 7.3.1 doesn't show up on the replacement, I've got to believe that something went wrong when I flashed 7.2.3 to my old device.
This don't make any sense at all :silly:
Edit
Another person has mentioned getting the 7.3.1 update on the Amazon UK forums here
I also had a chat with Amazon customer service (I love these guys ).
They confirmed that
it is a limited update that is being pushed out incrementally.

kindle fire hd 7.3.1 update
Hi I am new to the site and relatively new to the kindle fire hd. I have just had (about 15 hrs ago) the 7.3.1 update and have experienced a few problems since. I had root access and google play working no probs. But did not stop the kindle from updating doh! Since the 7.3.1 update I have carried out the whole rooting process as before ( or at least I think I have) and everything went smoothly and root checker claims I have root access. I then reinstalled the necessary files for play store. But google play store will not run. ( says google store has stopped).
I have also had problems installing apps sourced elsewhere since.
I have concluded that this 'limited update' has tightened up security. Or have I simply messed up the rooting process.
Any advice would be appreciated
Thank you
Go into the development section and learn to install 2nd bootloader its made my kindle so much better plus i now use kinology rom fixes so many problems i had with original kindle os. It will get rid of non working play store

Been on the phone with amazon 2 times today...
7.3.1 just started rolling out to a select customer base, its supposed to fix some of the bugs in 7.3, namely battery issues. If you hit the sync button on your kindle and leave it in sleep mode for a bit, it will auto-update to 7.3.1.
Just use the root any android device. Works every time.

I hope you're right! As a Prime user, the video filter would be a cool feature. It'd be nice to be able to update and re-root.
Also has the music baked in, and free time. Can apparently search by price.
As long as sideloading still works I may just go for it.
I bought the box was to be able to view Prime video content as well as local media and Netflix. Root is nice to have, but for me losing access to Prime video means the box is not doing what I bought it for. Of course, so is losing XBMC, so if sideloading breaks the box goes back and I probably pick up a TV that I can stream to via Bubble as well as use for NF and Prime - or I reconnect my WDTVLIVE and hope my bluray player eventually gets Prime. It just got the Digital Concert Hall from the Berlin Philharmonic, and that's a great, if expensive, service.
I had paid google apps working without root after sideloading enough of the google stuff to get login working.
If the update's mandatory for Prime viewing, I update. If it breaks xbmc, I return.
I imagine Prime video will still work...right?

Yea thats wht im saying this is almost certainly an update they have had on their road map for a while. Only potential problem I can see if towelroot use the same exploits that jcase already submitted to amazon / qualcomm for patching (he mentioned a few weeks back that a security update was coming very soon).

Isn't this exploit the same as the root exploit for the Samsung S5? If so, this would make it an Android/ASOP issue, no? This could impact the time it takes for a fix to be made and trickled down to different implementations.
The towelroot exploit was a kernel bug that was disclosed at the beginning of the month and has been fixed in the kernel since the disclosure.

Sure, but did Amazon have time to get that fix tested / do they have time to get that fix tested if they're releasing an update this week? Very hard to say - depends on them realizing that the Linux kernel vulnerability to a local privilege escalation meant their device was trivially rootable and having the development team chops to patch the bug themselves rather than waiting for the kernel maintainers to address it and release the source code for the fix.
I suspect that Amazon's not at the top of Google's list for private code releases
As far as the update goes: it's possible that Amazon will, at some point, stop permitting access to their content from devices running code at or below release X.
I don't know their history on this sort of thing - do the Kindle Fire devices stop having access to reading material if they get too far behind in updates?

2 FTV with working Prime video on the original installed firmware and the last rootable update. Just got done watching 1st season of Stargate.
Been watching The Wire/Prime on a rooted aftv. NP here.
Try shutting down XBMC/Netflix and try the prime video. Or do a full shutdown and try it first up before doing anything else. I have a movie paused on XBMC and tried a prime video and I got that error. Shut down XBMC and it started working fine again.
Not sure if the XBMC launcher messes up prime streaming due to the problem I listed above.
