OK, got a new Exec (actually this is my third due to defects); went through and added all my apps in a blitz, then when I powered off, it freezes when I power on again.
My question is this: so that I don't have to go through deducing which app (I installed a lot of 'em and this is the third Exec I've rebuilt!) is causing the problem, I figured I'd ask everyone here if they've experienced ANY APP that caused this condition to happen? If you want me to list all the apps I installed, I certainly can.
Thanks in advance!
Marc
You really need to hard reset then install each app one at a time...test it out then install the next etc etc etc...I dont think anyone here is in a position to tell u which apps have caused problems..theres just too many.

bukwit,
Certainly didn't want anyone to do research. Was just kind of hoping for someone to reply with "I've had that happen, and found that it was xxxxx app that was causing the problem."
That's all I was looking for. I'll live with leaving the power on all the time. Don't have the energy for yet another rebuild.
Is it possible to use the AOSP dialer (not the HTC stock one) with DC or Froyo. Right now, every time I make a call using Google Voice or something, the HTC call screen comes up. I don't want to completely scrap Sense because I like some things like the alarm app. Is there a solution?
Yes I posted this in Q&A, but there seems to be more Q than A there.
help please
I would like this too.

I posted a reply on the thread started in dev and moved to QA, and I'll paste it here also. Hopefully we can either combine findings or someone will know the answer:
I'm hoping to do the same thing. I like the AOSP dialer and contacts much better.
I have been able to get the AOSP calendar, calculator, clock, browser, etc. to install on DC from bugless beast, so far with no problems.
However when I install some of the phone stuff I just get FCs for everything.
I installed the following apks from bugless beast on DC:
contacts
contactsProvider
Phone
Telephony
FutureDial
And got FCs. I haven't had a chance to try any further. Anybody else have ideas?
halp plz anyone
Can anyone do it?!
I can just install this and it will replace the sense dialer and call screen?

I didn't mean it could be done. I meant it in the Billy Madison sense.
Does anyone have a serious answer to my query?

That seems a bit harsh, considering my post with some valid information to get closer to an answer. I think if a few of us work on different ways of doing this, we will probably figure it out.
I appreciate your response, but it wasn't an answer to my question so much as a question in itself. Does anyone know how to install the AOSP Dialer?
I pulled apart the apk and I am in way over my head. Not sure what I'm doing.

i would like to see the aosp dialer too. i dont like the sense dialer at all.

I did answer how to install the AOSP dialer, it just didn't work. I'm hoping more people than me can actively try to get this to work (I work 50 hours a week and have a kid so I don't have a lot of time on my hands). I'll try to stop arguing and explain how people can work on this
The needed files are contacts, contactsprovider, and phone. However there is apparently something else needed to make them work properly. It could be adding another apk, or removing another apk, or even editing some other file (config file, framework file, etc.)
So I'm trying a post in the development section. Hopefully they don't kill it. I have included careful instructions on how to install this stuff, and my progress so far with the dialer. If other people keep trying, hopefully we can figure it out. I can say that just installing that contacts.apk will probably not work, since contactsprovider.apk is almost certainly needed.

This error is because the nand partition isn't mounted yet. Issue "adb remount" before.
It will clearly work with a rooted EVO Rom. See the thread below for an example:

Yes, it certainly CAN work. I wish some of the people that have made it work in those ROMs would follow up with us and let us know.
Most interesting thing so far: in that thread I posted in the dev section, someone said it worked with pre 1.47 OTA ROMs. I'm hoping to try a few things soon to see when it does or doesn't work.
Fresh 0.53 is a Pre 1.47 Rom. I've been trying with that for almost a month. I even tried porting over the files you listed in your other thread. All I get is force closes.
My Blockbuster app loads well, shows the movies I've rented, but returns the error code 0xc00d2713 in a white box when I try to download any of the rented movies. I have...
*Deactivated my TMOUS HD2, soft reset and reactivated it.
*Uninstalled the Blockbuster app, soft reset and reinstalled it.
*Reset my modem and router (just incase).
Can anyone figure this out? The only help T-Mobile had was trade for like new or new phone. I've taken loving care of my HD2 and I don't want someone else's problems.
Has anyone any idea what could cause this or am I once again doomed to the hard reset?
After looking, that error seems to be related to DRM.

I googled and found the same, however, I have no idea how to fix it. Do you?
I don't use the Blockbuster app at all (I don't think we have the same access in the UK), but are you supposed to be able to download a movie that you've rented?
Feel free to shoot me down and flame me if you are supposed to be able to

Sorry, don't play with fire . But, yes, once you rent the movie you are suppose to be able to download it and play it. Have any ideas how to fix it? The app works if I do a hard reset; however, once I restore with Sprite backup, it will not download. The tmobile My Account "will be downloading soon" forever, too; although, I've fixed that problem.

Bizarre.
If it works after a hard reset, but stops after a restore with Sprite Backup, then it sounds like another app is conflicting with it. I was all for going with the DRM theory before, as mentioned by rr5678, but I'm not so convinced now.
I don't know how you could figure out what's causing the problem other than to re-install the apps manually, 1-by-1, and check after each install if you can still download. Obviously once you can't then you've found the problem.
That's not really a helpful suggestion though, if you've got a shed-load of apps to go through.
It's a bit of a clutch at straws, but I think having a thread here is the best thing, and to hope that someone with the same experience and a solution turns up.
Sorry to be so vague, but that's all I've got!
Hope you get it sorted.
Thanks, I've got over 60 apps (down from 100)! Soooo please don't make me reinstall them! I set aside days for ROM upgrades. Strangely, this thread shows how I solved the Tmobile My Account problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880250 and the problems seem to be related.

That is a bit of a strange and convoluted fix! Such is the joy of xda devices, eh!
Hope you get this one sorted too.
Edit: Just out of curiosity, have you flashed a custom ROM since you got your phone, or is it still an official TMO one?
Okay. I too Googled, and all I could find were references to Windows running on PCs. With that in mind, I REALLY don't know if this is relevant, but I do know enough about the WinMo OS to suspect it may help. If you're happy with registry editing, have a look at post No.2 on this page...

I'm not convinced that you'll find that key in the registry for WM, but maybe you will. It's worth a look.

No, not yet. Though, I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to resist. I keep telling myself, "warranty, warranty, warranty..."

I have no problem editing the registry (you were right that key doesn't exist in WM), as long as I'm told exactly what to do in exact detail.

I was 50/50 as to whether it would exist or not. Windows CE is VERY similar to the PC based Windows OS, so it was worth checking. As I know you've seen, there's nothing coming back from Google with regards to this error on WM.
I'm definitely done here now. As I said before, I hope you do get a solution though.
Good luck
Alright, while I was sitting in class today, I was thinking. Everyone has their own ideas on what they want in a ROM, but since there are too many people to make unique ROMs for, and not all of us know how to create a ROM. I thought, would a program that allows you to customize a ROM just for your phone be possible? Pick your phone, base ROM, (like a ROM made by a developer for your phone already), any tweaks, apps, settings, etc, that would allow you to create your perfect ROM? Just a thought.
EDIT: Or is there in fact something like this out there?

I was looking under non-HTC supported devices. The Milestone, which is what I have, is unconfirmed. Does that mean it may be not such a good idea to use that?
I doubt it will work. My apologies.

It said something about deleting the boot.img file. But thanks anyway. I'll give it a whirl.
Also! Everytime I restart my phone, it deletes Facebook synced data, like my contacts, so I have to go to Facebook, and switch Do Not Sync, in the Facebook settings, to Sync All, which is, So. Annoying. Any fix to this? Many ROMs do this, but I have used a few that don't.
Never used Facebook, its the root of all evil!
Lots of options in market. Just search "Facebook sync".
One example :

Hello,
Has anyone created a comprehensive list of all the stock apps that can safely be removed from the M? The last time I attempted to remove everything that I wont use I ended up having to reinstall the rom because I deleted something that it seems was needed. If there is can you please link me? If not could someone please take the time to make one? All help is appreciated!

Yes something almost exactly like that. I did view that thread but am not sure that I could use that as an uninstall list. I don't know the difference between an uninstall and a freeze except to say that an uninstall will remove it from the device. My thinking was that if the phone needs the app it can be frozen, and not show up in the drawer, which is fine in some cases however, in my case I am wanting everything not needed removed for freeing up space for the large games I am using the phone to play.
