I'm on ATT network. Would uploading files via FTP to my server count against my data allowance, or does ATT only count download?
Data usage, up or down will come out of your data allowance, either way it's traveling over the att network.

Yes it Counts
As charleswesde said, yes it will count against your data usage. And the amount of data usage you use will depend on how BIG your file is. So I Recommend managing your data on the file you are trying to upload or Or upload your file when you are on WIFI to save Data.

Okay, so I have posted this in the kaiser forum with no solution to my problem and am hoping maybe some people here could help me with this problem...
I am with Att in the US and have unlimited texting (includes sms, mms, instant messaging)
here is the problem: I do not have a data plan and would love a way of enabling my data only on MMS and instant messaging. I know they require data but it will not charge me.
any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!
Y'know, I was thinking exactly the same this morning!!
I'm a developer myself and may consider trying to do a program, similar to a PPC firewall that only allows certain apps to use data usage.
I'm sure there's more than just us two that one benefit from this.
yes before taking a data option i've searched for such a tool but without success
f someone can find / make one it would be cool
What do you mean, instant messaging will not charge you? What program do you use? Maybe it just sends SMS?
For MMS, you can delete Internet access point and only leave MMS access point.
I have just cancelled my Unlimited family messaging plan... Because they "DO" charge for MMS. The plan only covers the $0.25 charge per MMS but you are still charged per KB.

whaaat? no way? im with att wireless and it clearly states on their website that it includes picture/video messaging as well......hmm thats shady on their part.
and as mentioned earlier, yes, this only includes instant messaging via SMS and NOT data IMs.
A data connectoin is required to initially connect to the instant messaging client.

what do you mean by this? what will that do?
Hello, I've tried searching for info on this on Google, but all I found was info about unlocked for T-mobile service. So, I'm sorry if I didn't dig far enough.
A bit of an overview. I have the unlimited text/pix/vid plan on AT&T service (unlimited to any cell in the U.S. only). I am able to send and receive texts without issues. However, I cannot send or receive pictures or videos on my 8525. I also have a 32K-sized MMS from an Ntelos user -- which I need to fully download -- but when I attempt to do so, it doesn't finalize it. Also, where is a downloaded file stored, if it did download it to my 8525?
I've read that I need AT&T internet [MediaNet] on the AT&T.com forums, but is that really the case? I also read that even though picture & video files are included in my unlimited plan, I will still get charged per kb of the file size too; is that true? I have the AT&T internet blocked (so I don't get charged per kb of data when using Wi-Fi or when Wi-Fi isn't available, just to be safe).
Is there a setting I need to change to receive/send the pix/vids? Maybe a ROM to install? Do I have to have the accurate AT&T Medianet settings (as I deleted/altered them to fake settings on the 8525)? Is there just a "server" setting for the AT&T MMS, not the entire AT&T MediaNet? Is there anything else anyone can suggest so that I don't get charged per kb of data, such as using a Wi-Fi connection to send & retrieve my MMS files? Thanks in advance!
try this settings for att.
Thanks for the reply, zocster!
I read the websites that were linked. It seems that the MMS file has downloaded onto my 8525, but I can't seem to find it. The device said I needed to free up some memory (which I did) and the error message doesn't appear [which I take as meaning that the file has downloaded]. I do see some new files with today's date, but having the extension .mpb though. What extension should the files be in, and what program would read the file?
I'm still curious if setting the MMS to the MediaNet server charges per kb of the downloaded file or not. Anyone have an answer for this?
Internet Blocked = no MMS
If you have the Internet blocked, you can not send or receive pictures/videos/etc with AT&T.
I am looking for a rom that does not use data but can still use MMS. Currently using nsfan v15. I am looking for something basic as I use spb mobile shell. Any suggestions??

It's my understanding that you have to be able to make a connection to be able to send MMS. While SMS is sent and received in the notification band of the cell signal, MMS actually needs a data connection to a server to be sent and received. Even my non-smartphone phones make a data connection for this, even though they don't have a data plan and I don't get charged for the connection.
If you are willing to drop MMS, you can always use this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3680840#post3680840 and in post #7 there is a no data cab that will install and disable your phone from making a data connection when using NFSFAN's custom ROMS.
Hello comminity
I have a N4 using Carbon Rom and with 4G LTE active and running. Today I ran into an issue where my tethering is routing my laptop to a tmobile landing page asking me to change my plan. Anyway around this?
Interesting. I wonder how they're detecting non-mobile access.
You might try User Agent Switcher with Firefox or Chrome and then set it to a mobile user agent string. Sorry, I'd post links, but the dumb-ass forum won't let me.
The carrier is detecting that you are tethering and want you to buy the tethering plan...I would stop because they will tack that extra money for the tethering onto your bill if you don't buy the plan. I am unaware of a way around it
Write a new APN . which will eliminate the hidden settings in the stock APN. Look in the gs3 forum for ways around teather detection. Then apply it to your nexus. IT WORKS. I just LTE tethered a lot last 2 days while out of town. Convert this app 2 a system app and write new apn with it.

Do you mean just copy the existing APN info into a new listing, or create one with different settings? If the latter, which should I use?
