[Q] Software Update .... Bug? Maybe? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just upgraded the firmware. Now the problem is whenever I click on Show hidden items in my gallery, it stops working! Any Solution? Tried with restarting a few times.Anyone got the same problem after updating the software ? Also, whenever I receive notification while I'm using the earphone(Music,Video etc) it would stop the music and plays the notification sound. This didn't happen before I updated the software. Is there a way to reverse/uninstall the software update?

- Did a factory reset yet?
- It's always done that on mine since day 1, highly annoying when you've made the mistake of replying to a 9gag item on Facebook...

Not yet. But before I do, would this fix what I am experiencing ? How 'bout the notification thingy ? Complete noob here... haha

Generall when something stops working and starts crashing after an update, a reset is the way to go.
As for the notifications, not likely. That's a 'feature', not a bug. ><

Downloads from market are always 'paused'

When I choose an app on the market and press download/install, the progress bar appears but it says 'paused' and does not download. The download automatically finishes however after I restart the device.
I tried deleting the .android_secure, download & LOST.DIR but nothing has changed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

i have the same issue, its annoying..
can you do me a favor and see if u have this bug also..
if you are on a phone call and you have a alarm set and it starts going off while ur on the phone. the alarm wont turn off no matter what i do. i need to reboot.
I have all sorts of market issues on this phone. Rebooting normally will fix.
Phone restart fixes that problem. Also i have noticed that if u have task killer, like i have system panel installed and if i kill all, for some reason it caused this problem so be careful with task killers. I have not had this problem since i stopped killing all processed at once.

I can confirm this is not a issue with my 2.21. I am able to turn off the alarm during the phone call.

I did a system restore yday & I notice this problem as well, so I strongly believe its 2.2. because I had nothing like this when I was on 2.2.1. As for the alarm, I haven't tried that cuz I'm still waiting on the update

Clock app crash? It's actually a ring tone bug!

Every time I open the clock app and try to set an alarm the app crashes. It freezes and the just says "Clock has stopped". I´ve tried to clear cache and restarted the phone twice, still doesn't work.
Anyone else having the same problem and have a solution for it?
Thanks!

Haven't used TiBa at all, it is Titanium back up you're talking about, right?

Have you tried to delete cache + Dalvik (I don't know how to do this if not rooted, so you have to ask somebody if you don't know how too) ?

Nope, have not tried that! I'm having some other problems with my phone right now (smearing) and will probably go and try to change the phone.
Still very thankful if anyone has any tips on how solve this problem!
same problem here
and i surely don't want to wipe
got any solution?
Not a solution but it is worth cleaning all the alarms setup (if there are any).
Going to settings/More/Date and Time and changing the auto time on/off, time zone on/off and the other settings. I.e. just changing everything to manual or to auto dependant on your current settings to see if that helps reset something.
Worth a try before a reset at least.
Battery out for a min and restart too maybe?
I did a factory reset a couple of hours ago. When I first started the clock app worked like a charm, and I thought everything was back to normal. BUT!
When I changed the ringt one to one of my mp3s on the phone (selecting via settings and then ES File Explorer) the clock problem started again! When I try to change ring tone again back to one of Androids, the green android-guy under ring tone, the phone stops and a pop up that says "The process android.process.media has been stopped" shows up.
I have no idea how to "undo" it again. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do? Just re-installed like 80 apps and set my phone back to normal again, and changing my ring tone was like the last thing, and that just F'ed everything up.
It doesn't bother me That much since I can use another ring tone and set my alarms with the "AlarmClock Plus"-app. But it's still anyoing as hell and I would really like to solve it!

I tried that, but it didn't help. Maybe you got some new ideas with the new info in my post above?
***UPDATE***
Got it to work by having my Mp3-song selected as ring tone, and then move it to another folder. Both the clock and the ring tone-changer works fine now.
Now I just need to come up with a way to ge my ring tone back
EDIT: I solved it by making my Mp3-file into a Wav-file. Don't know if it's just that file or all Mp3-files. Cased closed for my problem at least, woho!

This trick of moving the bad ringtones to another folder worked and saved me tons of work if I had to factory reset the thing. One small addendum, after moving the files I had to clear data and cache for the clock app before it allowed me to create or edit an alarm again.

This part didn't work for me. My own ringtones were .ogg files and even when I converted them to .wav files, both the clock app and the android ringtone selector kept crashing. I set my own ringtones using the ES File Explorer too, maybe, just maybe something went wrong there or maybe the files were simply too big in size. I don't know.
However, I did solve my problem in the following way:
1) having root access is necessary for this method to work
2) using a root-enabled file explorer or using a root-enabled terminal to copy your own ringtones to /system/media/audio/ringtones, /system/media/audio/notifications or /system/media/audio/alarms respectively.
3) chmod 644 for these new files (not sure if this is really needed, but I guess it can't hurt)
4) reboot the phone (absolutely necessary as apparently it loads all available sound files at boot time only)
5) set your ringtones for any apps using the android ringtone selector. Your own ringtones should now appear in this list.

Wow thanks that worked. ... nice...!!!! Thanks +1
I had the same issues. In my opinion "ES Browser" was the reason for this bug. To fix it, i removed "media storage"-app. After a few reboots all libraries (Pictures, Music...) got filled again.
Clock and ringtone now working again.
I Know its an old thread, but i was having trouble with my Galaxy s6 clock.
I solved the Problem by changing the theme. Propably it will work for you aswell

[Q] Getting no notifications for Wordfeud and Ruzzle

I have to open them and then I see someone played, really annoying.
Does someone know why this happens and is it common?

Did you restore your apps from a backup? Try and clear app data in Settings / Apps (requires you to login to the apps again), but it worked for me... :good:
Thanks, I will try.
Edit: It didn't help.
Notifications (any) on wifi when the phone is asleep is a problem for many with the nexus 4.. google have been promising a fix for 9 months and counting now.
But I have this problem on 3G.
I always had an issue with wordfeud notifications whenever I restored them from a backup. I fixed it by going into the settings in wordfeud and toggling the notifications in there.
Isn't working for me

Try uninstalling the apps and reinstall them from store then. If that doesn't help, then I'm out of ideas...
Does anyone know whether this problem and other related problems have been fixed in 4.3?
Reinstalling didn't help. 4.4 didn't fix it.

[Q] Graphics overlapping issues

Hello,
I have been searching the forums and the web for an answer but no luck, I hope someone could help me figure out what could be the issue.
I'm attaching some pictures so you can see exactly what is going on. At this moment I have this issue, with the play store, facebook and viber...
I have reset the phone multiple times and still the same.
It happens when you start to scroll, with facebook it is actually weird, it doesn't happen all the time, and it overlaps only like the "gray box" where you have the Like, Comment and Share buttons.
Phone is Galaxy S5 SM-G900H.
Thanks for any help!

Saw your thread, mine has never done that, no lagging nor freezing.
Mine actually works fine. In any of the applications I mentioned, if I scroll to the right (viber and facebook) and then go back, the top bar displays fine, the if you start to scroll down or up, it happens again.
I'll continue searching and testing....
You are on the first stage . I think )
Hi I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 900h. I experience the same problem but only on Facebook, I did the screen test (*#0*#0 or something like that) and in my opinion the hardware is working properly. Also If I turn my phone Facebook screen refresh in good shape, so I think It's a refresh problem.
Does anybody has the same issue? How to solve it?
Regards.
overlapping issue
did any one found solution for this i am still facing this issue with facebook, twitter and viber
Hi:
Since yesterday tweeter is overlapping also, when scrolling up at the left corner it disappeared the tweeter icon and overlap the user tweet photo.
The screen works OK it's just a display refresh issue but instead of fix it there are some other apps with the same issue. Today Facebook and Tweeter shows the same problem.
Does Samsung knows about this? I Think they must deploy an operation system fix immediately.
Regards.
Hi:
I am very happy to tell you yesterday my phone receive an update and automatically installed Android 5.0. All screens problems have been disappeared in Facebook and Twitter.
Now my Galaxy S5 is working fine.
Did you already receive the update?
Regards!
Has anyone found a fix for this other than getting an update? I'm on the Straight Talk version of S5, which doesn't have any updates to Lollipop. I'm stuck with this overlapping issue. Maybe if I restore a nandroid backup or something? They never made an ODIN flashable for my version either, so nandroid is the best I can do. Maybe an xposed module could fix it? Idk, just ideas. I realize this thread is from over a year ago, but the problem still exists for some of us who can't update :/

910F - Lollipop 'Unfortunately Contacts has stopped' repeatedly

Hi Guys,
Must say I'm loving Lollipop so far, however I have a really annoying issue - my Contacts / Phone app keeps crashing. 'Unfortunately Contacts has Stopped'. This occurs almost every other time I open the dialler. And randomly if I leave it as a background process.
I'm running the German Lollipop build, with BTU UK CSC. I'm rooted with Philz Touch recovery.
I've reflashed, factory reset, cleared cache, cleared the apps cache & data, fixed permissions, pretty much all I can think of! All to no avail!
My contacts are all synced via google, and use Ubersync to pull through high quality photo's from facebook.
However after removing all contacts, ubersync and various syncing etc this is still occuring....
Any ideas?
I've been getting that one lately, and I don't even have Lollipop yet. I am using True Caller and think it might be related to that.
Same problem on my note 4 and I don't even have lollipop yet

Thanks for the reply - I don't use any 3rd party app to manage Phone or Contacts! At least you have an obvious candidate for the cause!
It's driving me nuts!!
I've been in Gmail and tidied up my contacts - long overdue to be fair and how much fun that has been! Maybe there was something up there - though after resync was still occuring so unsure....
I've factory reset again - It seems to be working fine at the moment - something i'm installing or updating must be causing it. I'm now going to install all my stuff one by one until I find what's causing it....

I am also on BTU CSC and German lollipop, no issue at all, but i am not rooted, stock and everything is working great and getting great battery life too.
I didn't wipe data only cache if this helps.
I'm having this on and off. Non rooted. UK unlocked.
Has happened to me 3 or 4 times since Friday that I updated to Lollipop.
It's really random too, once it happened after taking a photo, another time when I exit from Viber.
Thanks for the responses guys - feels better to know i'm not alone.
I flashed lollipop and restored my backup. On every boot I get contacts fc but then that's it never again till I reboot . So looks like it's either not lolipop related or perhaps related to the new modem?
I know this is a note 4 thread. I am using an S5 and started having this issue after upgrading to lollipop. So it is not just the note 4.
Yeah I noticed the error too after installing Lollipop, happens once a day while exiting an app it happens randomly.

Hi, had the same problem, randomly of course.
Phone is locked on Orange Romania, nonrooted and started after flashing lollipop.
Tried all....cleared cache/data on contacts, contacts storage, phone, all the apps that are related to contacts, changed date format, wiped cache/data form recovery, factory reset, etc.
Then i thought it must be related to another app....and which one it's the buggiest of all? Facebook
So i disabled facebook (u can't unistall it now...thank you samsung for that and for all the bloatware) and made a bookmark with it on chrome.
So far, no contacts fc and that since yesterday. Normally i'd had at least 4-5 till now.
Hope it helps!
I was beginning to think some Facebook link was at cause here....
This seems to have settled some - i've seen one FC of contacts this morning, and then Facebook updated a short while afterwards. Touch wood - i've not seen Contacts crash all afternoon!

Its a random FC on 910C also since the Lollipop update. I can not say why? Most times when it fc i want to access the Dailer.
Started happening to me after flashing the German lollipop image. I'm on a UK Three 910F. It's getting pretty annoying.
