[Q] SD Card Media Display Problem - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have had this 32GB SanDisk SDHC Class 10 sdcard for about a year and a half but recently I was passing some files and music to the card without unmounting the card from the phone like 10 times in a day. After that, no matter what I do, any media (Music, Video, Pictures) that were there previously doesn't appear at all but is intact and not corrupted by any means. I've heard that this sdcards have problems and SanDisk offers free changes but the thing is that I bought it in USA and am in Mexico for the time. has anyone found a way to fix it in order to make it usable again??.
I have already tried formatting it with the phone and passing all the files to my phone where they appear in their respective apps without problems.
Please help a fellow xda member with not enough cash for a new sdcard at the moment

Someone?

Data vanishing from SD Card

Hi everyone.
Hope someone can shed some light on this, I have a Kingston 512MB SD card for my XDA2, contained on the card are maps for TomTom Nav2, MP3's and a couple of movies.
I have not done a HR in a few weeks and only a few SR's, yesterday I wanted to navigate and use TT and all the data on the card had disappeared. Has anyone experienced this b 4? Any help would be mush appreciated.
Matt
Dissapearing data from SD card.
Hi,
I had this before on a 256MB card with maps on it. I reinstalled the maps and then hardware locked the card only moving opening this up on the occasion I need to move stuff to it. Mine wiped right when I needed the navigation system so I always keep it locked down now. I know it's not an answer but it saves a long and slow re-install.
Lyndon.
I'm also getting my 256MB SD Card(PNY) erased/corrupted, sometimes I have multiple entries for my storage card! This always results in losing everything on the SD. I've tried all the romkitchen versions of 2003 and get the same results. Plus I've noticed running the SD-Backup appears slower, taking 1h 10mins for 12MB. Someone must have a clue whats causing this.
XDA I (Wallaby)
32MB RAM
OS ROM 4.01.16
Radio 4.21.00
SD data disappearing
I have experienced the same problem on XDaII and completely lost the data. This despite a back up I lost many holiday pics and movies.
Q I use "Pocket Explorer" to move jpg & video files onto the SD, they appear to be there but then they dissappear. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
never had that happen on my 2 sd cards both sandisk and 1 128 and the other 256

SD Card Corruption

Hi All,
Does anyone else here suffer from continual SD card corruption? It appears that the early superblocks of my card are continually being corrupted by my Hero no matter how I format or partition the card.
Naturally I would assume that this was a card issue but running some load tests on a laptop shows the card to be functioning properly and reliably. Next thought would be that it's the phone but using an alternative card in the phone seems to be trouble free also. Any ideas?
My alternative card is a 2GB vs the troublesome 8GB card that I would prefer to have for music, etc.
I see lots of web results for people complaining about corrupt SD cards but no solutions or responses.
I had this problem too. Fixed by buying a decent class 6 microSD card. No problems since.

Memory Card Failure

Had a 16GB memory card in my HD2 for about 6 months. Yesterday it failed for no apparent reason. Anyone else had this happen? Or any idea as to how I could get the data back? Tried it on my PC in a card reader, but it just says 'Please insert disk...'
Not that big a deal, but its a hassle as most of my apps and icons, and all my TomTom maps were stored on the card
quite a few have had memory cards fail whilst using them in the hd2
same here
also had a new (ebay/unbranded) 8Gb micro SD card fail on me last week after only 6 days of use. Completely fried - PC refused to recognise it existed at all. Lucikly had been syncing entire contents daily to a backup folder on my home NAS using GoodSync so returned to ebayer for replacement and then re-synced with no data loss.
I had a similar experience, not with my HD2 but with my previous HD. The card appears in the directory only for a few seconds and then disappears, on every fresh reboot of the phone (not sure if that's your case too). So what I did was to have the phone boot-up while connected to the PC, and copy the data from it as quick as possible before it 'disappears'. Once I did that and had all my info safe, I formatted the card and it worked fine afterwards. Never knew what exactly had caused the failure though, but fortunately I was able to recover the data as described.
Had a failure with a 16GB mSD Sandisk in my HTC Touch HD Blackstone 2 months ago after 2,5 years of heavy use. Parts of my data were corrupted and phone froze.
mSD was still recognized by PC but unable to write or copy any data any more. Also no luck with recovery apps for PC.
I dunno if it was the Blackstone that fu..** the card or vice versa, the ROM of my Blackstone was fu..** too. I flashed G10s Ultimate Dusk, have a new sd card and now works fine again.
Sh.. happens once in a while

[Q] Sandisk 16GB Micro SD Class 2, Future Shop on sale for $44.99

Okay... I know there are cheaper deals in the USA but for the cost and return policy I will buy this locally. This unit is going on sale starting May 6.

Question is though, is the Sandisk 16GB Micro SD Class 2 card a working card for this phone ? There are so many postings but hard to pin point if this is a good working card with no reboots or data loss.
Appreciate quick responses as I want to pick this up before they sell out.
Thanks !
generally after the samsung focus nodo update the phone is not showing the symtoms of earlier sd card problems. Sandisk should be fine, class 2 or 4 seems to be the best class right now for this phone; even though microsoft orignally said class 4 or higher. You should check out the sd card thread sticky
Card has been purchased... I've done 3 finger salute and connected to laptop. Seems there was an update from Microsoft, so let that run and update.
Now syncing the card to all my wonderful music. I've loaded 4GB so far. Another 12GB to go. Will report sometime tomorrow if any reboots or data loss occurs.
Oh my... I guess I had more music and pictures than I thought ! Anyway the total storage is 22GB and available memory is sitting at 1016MB. Essentially I have maxed out the storage. So far no lag, no blips, no reboots, and no data loss. It's only been about 90 minutes though ! Will leave it over night and then use it more. Play music, read emails, make phone calls and then see what happens.
Any othe suggestions for testing this out?
Seems to be working perfectly. If anyone has suggestions to testing the load and trying to get the card to foul up please make suggestions. Future Shop has a good return policy but it needs to be returned with in 14 days of purchase. So far though the card works !
Can you check the speed (using WP Bench)? If it's good, I think I'll buy one of these.
So, bought the card - only the one that showed up was a class 4 16gb San Disk (as opposed to class 2 as listed in the order). So far has been performing fine, although I have had the occasional slowdown / lock-up (which may be a function of the phone trying to find music on the card). WP Bench score for storage access has ranged between 2.8 and 5.6...

Class 4 for me too!

Google play music vs. SD card

Just killed second SD card in my S7 Edge and by 90% its caused by GPM while downloading my archive to phone. After fresh install I cached maps to sygic navigation, one more other app and saved around 4GB of data without any problems. Then I let GPM cache my playlist worth cca 5GB of music. After hour or so checked phone and found card disconnected. And it was dead, didnt work in phone nor pc anymore. So I exchanged it for another one (RMA) and did exactly the same with another. Unfortunatelly same situation, other apps downloaded data correctly, GPM killed card after hour or so of downloading.
Both cards were Kingston 64GB U3 fast cards.
Not sure if I want to try third time in row...
I've had bad experiences with kingston microsd cards - randomly failing or getting a lot of errors. I initially thought it was bad luck.. now I use Samsung and Sandisk ones and I haven't had any problems.
There must be a quality issue with the kingston ones. Have you tried a different brand? I'll try an old samsung card and see if it messes up with Google Music
I typically stick to SanDisk and have about 10GB of music from GPM on my SD card at any given time. Never had any issues through various ROM installs and wipes.
Will take card to RMA (again) and get different brand, probably SanDisk. Hope it will be better luck, because not sure how many cards I can succesfully RMA befor they get some suspicion in shop

Are you enabling encryption on the SD card?
I had that setup on my Lexar 1000x to begin with and after a few days ended up with a corrupted filesystem in my GS7E.
I reformatted the card using Windblows, reinstalled it and reformatted it with the GS7E, but with encryption disabled, and performance has been more consistent (read and write).
I'm just wondering if SD card encryption could be mis-behaved.
