Nexus 7 + 10 MTP issue - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Evening.
Today I rooted my nexus 7 2012 version, using WUGs toolkit. It manages to unlock, root, install recovery fine. However as soon as it was rooted I can now no longer see the device in 'my computer' when MTP is selected. But if PTP is selected it comes up as the camera icon like it should.
Drivers have been removed and reinstalled. Debugging has been turned on and off. WUG says ADB is fine. But for some reason I just cannot get MTP to work ?
Thanks

Nexus 7 not recognized by adb or fastboot

I plugged my Nexus into my computer(running windows 8) and it was recognized so I thought the drivers were installed but then I got the nexus toolkit and selected unlock bootloader but while I was in fast boot it hangs there saying wait for device... I tried to install the drivers from the toolkit and still it says waiting for device. Any ideas?

Make sure the drivers were installed correctly. I've read some threads past that there was an issue installing the drivers in Windows 8.
Did you turn on USB debugging? Go to the "About Tablet" section in settings and tap on "Build Number" a couple of times. It should say "You are a developer!". This unlocks developer options in the main settings. From here you can enable or disable USB debugging. Try whatever you are doing again and it should (hopefully) work.

same problem here.
I tried to install the ASUS driver on my XP machine. But the installation wizard keeps saying "Parameter is incorrect" or "Cannot start hardware"
Just to be sure, you ARE using the cable which arrived with your Nexus 7 right? Because I used a SGS3 cable and it didn't work though it fit nicely

I had the same problem. Very frustrating. Sounds like you guys need to open the device manager on your PC and uninstall every Google, android, nexus7 or any other phone driver installed.(HTC,samsung) all of them. Also check in USB drivers. Get rid of them.
Reboot your PC.
Make sure USB debugging is enabled on the nexus.
Power the nexus off. Enter fast boot on the nexus. Power-volume up-down. Connect your nexus to the PC and let the drivers install on their own.
Go back and check your device manager on the PC and look for a yellow exclamation mark on your android, Google, adb or nexus driver installed. Right click it and select updated driver.
Let me know if this helps.

It helped, tnt0303. Thx.
I had same issue. In fast-boot mode it was always giving the yellow exclamation mark. This is what I did to install the drivers.
Device Manger ->Nexus 7(yellow exclamation mark) -> right click -> Update driver ->Let me pick from the list of device drivers on my computer-> select show all devices->next->Have Disk->browse to folder where you unzip nexus drivers then -> ok ->select Android bootloader drivers
Hope this helps

Nexus 4 Root Issues

Hello,
I am using WugFresh Nexus Root Toolkit 1.6.4 to root my Nexus 4. I have done the initial driver setup (installed universal driver) and I have successfully unlocked my device. ADB and whatnot worked fine. Now when I try to root and it tries to check ADB, it fails say "ADB device was not found".
Tried redoing the driver steps again, tried different USBs but still no dice. Not sure whats wrong, it unlocked fine meaning ADB worked fine. Not sure why it stopped all of a sudden.
Any tips?
Did you turn on USB debugging again after you unlocked it?

You must turn on Usb Debugging again (Setting->developer options-> tick "Usb Debugging")

[Q] USB and recovery problems after OTA upgrade to 4.3

I took the OTA to 4.3 on my Nexus 7. It was previously unlocked and rooted, but had no kernels, etc changed. After the update ran, I lost root as expected, however, in trying to get it back, I've discovered I'm having a couple of other issues.
First, the device is no longer working properly via USB on my PCs. On both my Win 7 and Win 8 PCs, the device won't properly connect to where I can browse files or anything else. On the Win 8 computer, I see a Nexus 7 device in Device manager, but drivers won't install. I downloaded the drivers from the Asus site, but trying to manually install them doesn't work on the Win 7 machine, and on the Win 8 machine, they install but don't seem to be working with the Nexus 7 as it still shows a problem in Device Manager.
The tablet also will not boot into recovery mode. I can power it up into fastboot mode, but if I select "Recovery Mode" and hit the power button, I just got the Android with the red triangle for a few minutes before it boots back into the OS. After doing some searching, I saw where you might need to have it plugged into a PC to get it to go into recovery, but that doesn't work, either (might be tied to the USB problem).
Ideas?
Did you turn on developer options, and USB debugging? Have you tried USB connection type PTP instead of MTP?
If you have the stock recovery, the red triangle and Android are normal. You can bring up a blue options menu by pressing the power and volume up buttons from the red triangle Android.

Yes.
Try another driver source. Wugfresh's installation is a lot tougher than Skipsoft's, but try the other guy 's system.

I was using the stock drivers off the Asus page. I'll look around for the two you mention. I assume they're posted on here somewhere.
And about the recovery just try flashing another recovery from fastboot
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Without USB access? That's my dilemma.
OK, I'm getting closer. I got TWRP installed and rerooted it. I had to do the "Revoke USB debugging authorizations" on the Dev Options screen. Then it would work via ADB.
Still not browsing files yet on my desktop, but at least I know I'm talking to it. So now I'll play with the driver installation a bit.
EDIT: Well, drivers reinstalled for about the 4th time, and it's still not allowing me to browse files from my desktop. Galaxy S4 works fine as soon as I plug it in, even if I also uninstall it's drivers. Ideas? I obviously have it working over USB because I can give it commands and reboot it via the PC.
OK, try this one. Plug in your tablet to pc, go to hardware manager, find your Android Device then choose Uninstall (choose Remove all drivers for this device), unplug and plug in your tablet again. Your Windows should discover few new devices (mine has discovered three) and download drivers for them then you should see Android ADB Interface in Android Devices and Nexus 7 in Mobile Devices.
--edit--
I've solved my issue

After you plug your nexus in have you unlocked the screen to see if it is asking you to authorize the tablet?
What other steps have you taken? Have you installed proper drivers? Have you manually chosen to update drivers with the sdk drivers if in device manager is showing the nexus? Have you tried the drivers from Asus?

I personally did all of those things. After having the Nexus "forget" all the other PC authorizations on the dev screen, I finally got it to accept ADB commands, just not to properly install drivers that would allow me to browse files like it had done on 4.2.

Try turning off usb debugging. My tablet cannot connect to pc but with usb debugging off it at least recognises tablet as a media device and this enables me to view its files
.but still the problem of not being able to root

Cant see N7 in my computer

Hey guys, I have a rooted 1st get nexus 7 that I rooted with WUGs toolkit. Its currently got rasbeanjelly rom and trinity kernel. Well, I want to flash a new ROM on it and the .zips are on my computer but when I connect my nexus 7 to my computer its not showing up.. I have it set as MTP on the device and USB debugging is on. Down in the notifications tray it shows as 'MTP' and is also labeled as 'MTP in devices and printers. It looks like an MP3 player. Why can I not see it on my computer and access it? Im using windows 7 by the way.
Anybody??? It shows up as a camera when I select PTP but when I go back to MTP it still doesn't show up.

MTP not working - tried everything

Bought new N6p 64gb
Updated it to latest version by OTA.
Now, i'm trying to connect it to PC (win7 ultimate) and it's not recognized.
Have also Nexus 5 that working great with MTP but the Nexus 6p won't no matter what I tried.
Enabled debugging, tried to install latest Google drivers... Everything.
Still, can't see it in Windows to unlock and root.
Spend two hours to figure out what is wrong. Windows says the mtp is installing but after few seconds gives me an error that it didn't install.
Help me please.

Did you select usb for mtp from the notification?
It's Android's issue!
Enable Developer Options!
& when plug OTG to phone, go to menu "Select USB Configuration" & 1st select Charging & Again select MTP mode!
You really won't believe it. After being frustrated with the N6p and opening this thread, I plugged the phone to pc with usb cable, shut it down and then booted into bootloader. PC recognized the phone as adb. After that I just powered on the phone normally (into the Android os) and waolla, PC recognized it right. Checked twice and both (N5 and N6p) working as supposed to be.
