Why is my system partition that big? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm wondering why the system partition of my D802 (16gb version) is 2700mb big. Is it just me or is it normal? Did I do something wrong while flashing ROMs? currently running latest omnirom.
For comparison, the system partition of my old nexus 7 (2012 16 GB version), also running omni has only 649mb.
g2: 2724 mb system, 10640 mb rest
nexus 7: 649 mb system, 13720 mb rest

Because lg set it to that size. Their stock ROM is actually big when uncompressed, but /system is always large.

[Q] ZTE Blade v880 256MB RAM ROM Dec 2012 ?

Hi, is there a better ROM than Elite 2.3.5 for the ZTE Blade v880 256MB RAM ? (That is all I seemed to dig up from earlier this year in January posts.)
I picked this up for g/f thinking I could flash it same as my San Francisco but never saw it only had 256MB RAM vs (tight as it is) 512MB in my SF.
I'm guessing that Konstakang ICS won't work in it due to size constraints. ?
I have 48 hours to dig up a better ROM for it as it is quite bad/slugish as it is with 2.2.2 stock ROM before my 1-week return warranty expires.
I'll be looking into external SD partition and cache to free up more space as I never knew about this smart trick.
Asian Blade Gen 2
Current partition size:
System 220 MB
Data 162 MB
Cache 37 MB
You could always try cm7

Thanks QuantumFoam !
Going by the fact it is a 256MB Asian blade, will I be able to install clockwork mod on it and install ICS with the trimmed down ROM/cache footprint ? Any known restrictions ? I don't want to brick it due to some obscure code glitch....!
Asian Blade Gen 2 (Stock Sucky 2.2 ROM)
Current partition size:
System 220 MB
Data 162 MB
Cache 37 MB
MY SF is Euro Blade Gen 2 (ICS Konstakang 10/12 ROM)
Current partition size:
System 138 MB
Data 315 MB
Cache 2 MB
On system and cache comparisons, I'd regain 117 MB...significant if an app my girlfriend needs cannot be moved to SD card.
I think the order is :-
Simple root
Use some kind of TPT tool to tweak system/data sizes (?)
Install Clockwork Mod
Dump my ROM (CM7/ ICS) and GAPPS on fat32 formatted SD
Then I have to look for a SD format tool and cache-to-SD-card util. ?
best not to tpt an asian 256mb blade. not unless you find one specifically designed for that particular model. a bad tpt can brick it. clockworkmod can partition & format your sd card, s2e can move your apps & data to an ext partition on your card, then there's no reason to tpt at all & it's better. tpt is only needed for old 'gen1' european blades & san franciscos which were sold with android 2.1. either root it using some root exploit app & use rom manager to install clockworkmod, or use fastboot to flash clockworkmod.

Brilliant wbaw.Thanks
I managed to root, clockwork it and install ICS stable since my last post from a guide elsewhere.
My remaining bug is the partition scheme/cache is still there from the old ROM and I wonder is there an app to do resizing vs a TPT more techie boot level method ?
Current partition size:
System 156MB on 220 MB old space
Data 54 MB on 162 MB old space
Cache 1.19 MB on 37 MB old space
Free space is now............32 MB when there is 100MB that could be reclaimed........aaaaaaaaaaaaah !
Any other must-have apps that will optimise such a tight 256MB internal MEMORY ?

So I have :-
disabled dithering,
set CPU to performance
and enabled 16-bit graphics
found the swiftbootloader to change system size + cache on a windows machine with .net framework
and just used CWM to create an ext partition of 1GB on SD & 256 MB swap................
When I look in Settings------> Apps----------->Running it still has 0-10MB of free ram........with no sign of the SD card overspill Swap.
Do you need to enable SD cache swap somewhere and is this the same as "compcache" ?
I'm 100% determined to crack this 256MB RAM Blade nonsense so ICS works on it smoothly.
Oh well I had to wipe ICS and install a step up from stock , a custom 2.3.7 from one of the ROM's made by a member here.
Just working and no more.
I did all the performace optimizers possible on ICS, made partition on SD ,used app2sd on and on but as it has only 256MB ,facebook, Viber and the OS would just grind it to a halt with the homescreen disappearing or apps just crashing.
I just could not work out how to format the internal SD for optimal sizes or know if the VRAM I set up in CWM was being utilised. I just find it hard at times to follow full-time coder instructions, too many abbreviations that us no coders don't get or steps that are differnent to my screen !!!
This custom 2.3.7 is nice anyway. Thanks. I should have read the small print on the spec sheet before buying. I thought 256MB Blades were well and truly gone.

System data

Hi Guys, after I flashed lollipop (kdz Italy open v30a, 32 gb) to my G2 I saw that the system data partition takes away a big chunk of my memory, see picture. What's in there? And is it possible to decrease its size? With KK this partition was a lot smaller.

System Partition Question

My XT1575 shows a System Rom size of 4.16 GB with 2.04 GB free after a fresh flash of Moto's stock Rom.
Seeing as I opted for the 16 GB X (albeit with a 64 GB SD card) that doesn't leave a lot of room on the actual internal memory.
Is that right? Why is there more than 2 GB just sitting there that I can't use? Even after updating all the Google/system apps that free space in the system rom doesn't change.
I came from a N6 where there was only 30 MB free in the system partition, so this seems a bit extreme.
Is there a reason for the huge chunk of unusable space? Can I adjust it?
Any insight/help would be greatly appreciated.

Why flashing a custom ROM does not resizes system partition

when flashing a custom ROM if the ROM requires less space than stock ROM then if it can decrease the size of system system partition then a lot of unused system space can be shifted to as internal storage . I am using a custom ROM with aroma gapps and out of the 3 Gb system partition only 1.5 GB is used and i am only getting about roughly 9 Gb of free space. If there is anything i must notice then please elaborate... but it will be nice to see if system partition gets resized dynamically based upon the ROM size it will be better in my opinion

Samsung J3 (2016) - internal memory almost full - who's using it?

I've got an almost fresh and empty J3 (2016) with stock Android 5.1.1
One of my friends has been complaining about low internal memory warnings.
So I installed TWRP and got it rooted.
It shows the following:
System memory - 7,02 GB
Used space - 664 MB
Available space - 310 MB
And when I do a TWRP backup, it says - ok, system partition is approx 1.4 GB, data 800 MB. In total, full system backup is slightly more than 2 GB.
Where did the rest 6 GB of internal memory go?
Mind you, there is *no* pictures, no video, no apps, nothing.
Wiped cache/dalvik.
But 5 or 6 gigs are still missing. Whats wrong with this picture?
Maybe there's a hidden partition? Can you give me a hint how to visualize ALL internal memory, all available partitions? And possibly kill and resize the useless ones.
I'd greatly appreciate it!
