[Q] Not so noob (new to note 3) question - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay,
Ive been rooting and romming for a few years (original Verizon droid, Verizon thunderbolt with Rom Manager (ClockworkMod), An AT&T Samsung SII (ClockworkMod) and was out a year with a stupid RAZR Maxx. Ive used Odin a few times to un-Softbrick my SII so I'm familiar with Odin.
Now I have this Note 3 and of course updated to NC4 before there was root, Just got root about a week ago with Towlroot, added SU, and safestrap 3.75. Ive tried adding Jasmin Rom and Beanstowns rom to my Note but soft bricked it twice and luckily could un-softbrick it with Odin again using the stock tars found here.
I Ive followed the instructions (I believe) for flashing a ROM on my Note but every time it tells me that the flash failed (and of course since Ive wiped everything I have no system left hence my reloading with Odin).
What am I doing wrong?
Ive enabled developer options and checked USB Debugging.
Im on build# KOT49H.N900VVRUVNC4 4.4.2
Thank all.

Using stock rom slot btw.

I'm fairly sure any NC4 roms need the NC2 kernel to run properly. Fortunately there is a way to have NC4 firmware with the NC2 kernel. Simply flash the kernel from here and you should be able to flash any kitkat rom for retail note 3.

That's what I thougt but just wanted to be sure, Thank you!! :good:

That didn't work.
Did a flash in Odin to stock N900VVRUCNC4 again
Followed below
Coming From Stock NC4 OTA
Step- 1 - Root Device with TowelRoot
Step- 2 - Install Busybox from play store and install busybox itself
Step- 3 - Install Hashcodes Latest Safestrap (3.75)
Step- 4 - Boot into Safestrap Select Stock Slot
Step- 5 - Wipe Data Factory Reset The Stock Slot
Step- 6 - Flash nc4 deodex rom to the stock slot
Aaaaaaand
Flash failed, So I cant get past step six.
Any Ideas? Also had to re-flash in Odin again cause I wiped factory data, no problems.. lol, just annoying.

Seeing how I don't seem to be locked out of Odin, Isn't there modded TAR I could flash in Odin? or maybe downgrade to NC2?

When did you flash NC2 kernel? And no downgrade because of locked bootloader.

Followed the directions and was going to flash it after I tried flashing the rom, tried flashing it first and got an endless verizon logo. I'll try flashing it first again before I load the Rom.

Which rom are you trying to install? I'm running JasmineRom 2.0

I tried jasmine and Baja but both fail the flash from safestrap. Tried what was recommended above to install the NC2 firmware but still can't get past the safestrapsafestrap flash. It tells me "flash failed" seconds after I try.

Reinstal safestrap, I've never gotten a flash failure?

You after you flash the rom via Safestrap you need to reboot into download mode and flash the NC2 kernel via odin. Did Safestrap say flash failed? Or did you hit the immediate reboot system button?
If it was the latter you need to go back to the Safestrap main menu after flashing and reboot there, it gives you more options.
If it is the former, and there is a problem flashing the rom it may be a bad download. Did you check the md5?

Its the latter of the 2 (therfore I never made it to Odin to flas the NC2 firware), I did not check the md5. I've tried different roms and get a failed flash in safestrap with all of them. I will try again after re-downloading and checking the md and let you know. I'm also going to Uninstall safestrap and reinstall it, maybe roll back from the 3.75 version.

If the md5 checks out and it still doesn't flash, you can try reflashing the stock tar via odin > doing a factory reset to clean the system > rerooting > and trying again.
Also try this before wiping system in Safestrap prior to flashing the rom. It is a way to super clean the internal sd.

[Q] So many issues... (Kies, Recovery, Firmware)

Hello.First post here.
I currently have been using CM11 for a few months now but miss some features on stock. (multiwindow, air view) so I installed Sacs ROM.
Everything was working great today except a known problem is wifi will not work due to radio opbstructions (i believe). So i attempted to change the baseband to MF9.
At first, Odin started then immidately it failed. The error read 'Fused 4 Binary 1'
So i assumed it was a connection error. I loaded back into download mode and tried again. Failed.
At this point i thought screw it, and took the battery out. tried to reboot and stuck at the soft brick "Firmware upgrade encountered and issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again"
I installed Kies. Plugged in my phone. Drivers installed but Kies will not connect. Try to do 'Firmware Upgrade and Initialization'
However Kies will NOT accpet my S/N number. i tried everything. writing it all out or with a space every 3 numbers or with 'DEC' at the front. nothing worked.
I even called sprint to double check S/N (ESN/DEC)
so basically I'm soft bricked and Kies is screwing me over. Any ideas?
Have you tried to odin back to stock?

Yes but it takes all but about 30 seconds to root again
You could go straight to sacs after rooting.

If you flash a full stock tar you won't have to flash radio.
Do a search please for the tar.

i searched around and eventually found a working .md5 file. its apparently is stock. got my phone to start booting but it got stuck at the yellow sprint screen. im going to try to boot into safe mode. any ideas how to access my recovery file? i have one form CWM and one from Ti Backup
which tar did you flash through Odin? MF9, MK2 or NAE?
IF you were on MF9 and flashed the full MF9 tar you can try and flash again. Just power off phone completely, go to download mode, attach and run Odin. (same for MK2 or NAE) BUT if you tried flashing MJA/MK2 or NAE you cannot go back to MF9. Things you should have read about already.
If it hangs on boot after flashing, power off completely, boot to stock recovery and do a factory reset and then let it restart first reboot can take 5 to 10 earth minutes.
You can then root via CF-Autoroot or Saferoot, install goomanager to grab a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) OR Odin said recoveries (Philz, TWRP etc.)

I think i fixed it.
Problems resolved.
The issue was i had Sacs v4 which didnt support wifi and i read that it needed MF9 firmware.
i had a lapse in judgement and without thinking tried to go back from MJA. didnt catch it until now.
I eventually found the correct stock file. eventually got into the phone. rerooted and in the process of install the proper sacs ROM (v5.6)
this was a simple error that i shouldve caught thanks guys!
hopefully this ROM will work with wifi...
BTW, all my backups were wiped
Your backups weren't on your external sd? Ooo, that sucks. Glad you got it.

[Q] Odin Fail OTA NC4

I have a OTA Stock 4.4.2 Note 3. I rooted using Gehot's method and all was working fine. Safestrap, SU, Titanium. Decided to flash a rom today since installing the NC2 Kernel via Odin is the trick. DLed Odin 3.09 and the NC2 kernel but it failed. Now anything I do fails and I am stuck on the download screen telling me to use Software Upgrade program. Can i fix this??

I could be wrong but if you updated the with the OTA I think your NC4 upgrade will increment some counter that prevents you from rolling back. Even if you have root. Unless you were already on an nc2 rom...

I think the person that posted above your last post is right about not being able to downgrade since you're on the NC4 bootloader. Try booting into the stock recovery and doing a factory reset.
Get into recovery. And factory reset.
If that doesn't work.
Restore your back up in ss.
If you can't even get into safe strap..
You need to flash the appropriate. .Pit file to fix your phone.
The OTA thing is crucial... I really don't think you can roll back if you took the update OverTheAir

Had the same issue last night, rebooted to recovery factory reset & wipe cache then reboot
If it doesn't work on the first reboot try a couple more times mine booted on the third attempt
While you can't roll firmware back you can still odin the nc2 kernel on a nc4 build

[Q] NC2 fails to flash

I had to download NC4 firmware via Odin 3.09v, account I rebooted my Verizon Note 3, without a rom. I rerooted my device with "Towelroot" and safestraped with 3.75b04, from Beanstowns106. The problem is the NC2 kernel Fails, when trying to install. I'm able to install and run both versions of the Jasmine Roms, 1.9 and 2.3 with no problem, but other roms, ie., "Biggins" or "Alliance" will not flash. Need some assistance.

So you did the following in this order?
1. You rooted with TowelRoot
2. Did you install BusyBox?l
3. Then you Install SafeStrap 3.75 B04
4. Reboot into SafeStrap, Wipe (Factory Reset) in the Stock Slot
5. Installed "whateverROM"
6. Reboot into Download Mode from within SafeStrap
7. THEN Odin in the AP slot the Updated NC2 Firmware?
If you didn't follow those steps, in that order, then there is your issue.
Thanks shaggy, the new updated NC2 KERNEL works and now I can flash the other roms.
Once again, thanks.

Error installing 4.4.4

I have a SM-N900V that is about 13 months old. I used Towelroot to root it when I could not edit files on my SD card. It also had Safestrap Recovery. I am still running the stock 4.4.2 and wanted to upgrade to 4.4.4. I used the Safestrap app to remove the Safestrap Recovery and used Super SU to remove the Root. I know that I am unrooted and when I boot into Recovery, Safestrap is gone. I still have the words Custom and the Unlocked Lock picture on my Splashscreen.
If I go to Settings/About Phone and click on Software Update, I can Download it. When I click on Install, it boots into Recovery and starts to Install but stops about 1/3 of the way with the green Android and the word "Error", then it Reboots.
How do I successfully install 4.4.4?
I have successfully Rooted and installed Custom Roms on a Droid Eris, HTC Thunderbolt, and Galaxy S3 using CWM Recovery. Because there were issues putting CWM on the Note 3, I just Rooted it and did not add any Custom Roms.
Do a factory restore and then try....or, flash the stock NC4 ROM via Odin and then upgrade

I tried the Factory Wipe and Erase Data, then Reboot and Upgrade to 4.4.4. I always see Custom. on the Splash Screen, with the Unlocked Lock image and then see the Error message while Installing. Then, it reboots. I have never used Odin, but I will try it. Where do I find Odin and the NC4 Rom?

As it turned out, flashing the Stock 4.4.2 Rom, with Odin, got rid of the issue preventing me from Upgrading to 4.4.4 and also restored the Samsung Splash Screen.
One issue I ran across was the link to the Odin download also downloaded Spyware to my W7 machine. Among other things, a Launch Bar appeared near the bottom of my Desktop. I was able to go into Add/Remove programs and Uninstall all 4 programs.
I still am annoyed by the fact that I cannot edit files on my SD card. It appears that Towelroot does not work with 4.4.4 as it did with 4.4.2.

Flipping Back to Use SafeStrap

I am currently running Optimal ROM with OD5 bootloader. Just got back into the rooted world last week after a warranty replacement stroke of luck. To be able to access SS to flash a different ROM, do I just flash the NCG kernel I have and boot?
Edit: Been out of the loop for a while and don't want to bork this thing
Anybody?
You can use flashfire which is a mobile odin and is in the playstore [root]Flashfire or you can safestrap. http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/guide-safestrap-access-odin-t3126686. Install busybox and and the safestrap bo3 in the link I provided. Make sure you install ss after busybox. The NI2 kernal flasher when used will install a kitkat kernel and bring you into ss.
Before all this download this zip and extract it.https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347777436 What you are looking to keep are the firmware and kernel zips. YOU MUST FLASH A KERNEL OR FIRMWARE AS THE LAST THING BEFORE EXITING SS. Otherwise you will get a blank screen.
Solution if you forget - battery pull - restart phone - ss symbol will appear - hit it and reenter ss.
Place everything I've told you to download on your ext sd. When you wipe - do not wipe ext sd.
example - If you're going from od5 to og5 you will ant to flash the og5 kernel as the last thing before leaving ss- just follow the rom's installation instructions to the letter
SS is already installed. I am running Optimal w/OD5 bootloader. I was wondering if just flashing NCG kernel would boot me back to SS screen. I'm old school and have been using Odin haven't tried FF and seem to see more posts of bricks with peeps using FF.
can flash kernel via odin
