Can't install Xdabebb camera mod - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm on the G3 cloudy 1.2 ROM and I cannot install the Xdabebb camera mod. I tried flashing the flushable zip with TWRP 2.7 and upon booting, there was no difference. I also tried installing it with the apk method which resulted in the phone booting up, then the system UI crashing, followed by a bootloop. I had to reflash the ROM and wipe the system to get out of the loop.
Does anyone know how to sort out this problem of not being able to get the camera mod?
Thanks

Be sure to use the 4.0 version for the G3 rom.

I flashed the 4.0.0 zip but it makes no difference. It boots up normally but there is no new camera app and the original camera app is the unmodified stock G3 camera app which I had before.

Can't imagine what would cause that. Maybe search the dev thread.? Weird. I had the G3 rom and flashed that most and worked for me.

I may just switch to the optimus g3 rom which has the camera mod included. Do you reckon I can flash it without wiping the system, data etc?

I wouldn't. It's different roms although very similar. If you want to guarantee a good experience just do a good clean flash.....

The camera app is the same with stock as it is with Xdabbeb, at least on the UI front. You won't get two camera apps or the stock app replaced with a different looking app.

Is that true even with the G3 rom? I thought of that as well but then remembered when I installed Optimus G3 a few weeks back it ACTUALLY had two cameras. So I just assumed maybe it was a bit different for the G3 roms....

Either way, when I open the only camera app I have, it is exactly the same as it was before which no extra options.

ROM Manager premium

I'm trying to decide if I want to go to the premium rom manager. I've been loving on some skyraider for a long time but I keep hearing about miui roms. Any suggestions?

i wont go premium until they fix it for HTC Incredible. When using ROM manager, after installing a ROM from the app and going in to recover autmatically(it gives you this option after the inital download) after the download it wont install automatically. I have to go toggle the the security(or whatever its called)disable and then download from sd card and look for ROM manually. I have reported to the deveolper but never no responce. But I would love to use the ROM manager how its supposed to be. If it loads the ROMS for you automatically I would suggest on buying. Great App!

I've been using it on my dinc with absolutely no problems. I've used it to flash more roms than I care to think of. I don't know why you're having trouble.
OP: Support the developer, I got premium.
I guess my real question is is the miui rom worth paying for rom manager?

Same here. Other than Clockwork Mod having issues since I have a new SLCD Dinc (for which there are fixes) the app works flawlessly. I bought it if only to support the developer.

I used MIUI for a day and wasn't all that impressed. Yeah, it was flashy and shiney and new, but once that wore off, it wasn't anything special in my opinion. Went back to SkyRaider.
Its worth it if you like how the roms look i like them and ive never had a single issue
Besides miui and cm nightlies what other benefits are there from going from free to premium?

I do agree that supporting the Dev is nice and that's why I don't use the ad free app.

ROM manager is a life saver for me, i have had zero issues as well. bought it to not only support the dev but because it's just an essential app for any ROM flasher.
i use adfree because i dont like apps that send personal information to ad agencies. it's a privacy issue for me. i buy apps if there is a version available.
Can't you just download the roms yourself and flash via recovery? That's what I do....never have to use rom manager unless I want to fix permissions or something.

Rom manager premium is a great app. Way too many benefits like "Fix permissions".
Costs lesser than the value of the time you have spent trying to figure it out. Seriously!
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Well worth it!
Install ROM from SD Card
Download ROM
Check for ROM Updates
Install from QR Code
Manage and Restore Backups...
- Restore
- Rename
- Delete
Backup Current ROM
Fix Permissions
and more!
I bought it to support the developer first, but it has been a great lifesaver. On the other issues you brought up:
- Works fine on my Incredible, all the features with no issues
- MIUI Rom looks beautiful, but works only ok. I was running into all sorts of different issues, not the least of which being file locations and then it did something to my SD card that caused about 4 hours of rework. Fortunately I have been flashing since my Windows Mobile days and am finally smart enough to keep a full backup of everything I really need. I will say that it seems to run the fastest and in the smallest footprint though.
- I agree with the GamerZ, I went back to SkyRaider as usual. Rock solid and stable.

congratulations..the app it self is fine no problems with downloading or anything. Its just rebooting in to recovery. It never installs automatically. I always have to manually wipe and clear data/cache and install from sdcard..until thats fixed for MY phone ill stay on the free app

That's to bad it doesn't work for you.
Works fine for me with most ROMs.
Currently running Skyraider3.3.3 and it works fine. When I upgraded from 3.3.2 to 3.3.3 I downloaded the ROM with ROM Manager and was given 2 options:
1. Backup Current ROM
2. Wipe (can't remember the exact words in the menu)
When the ROM was Downloaded there was an icon in the notification bar, I clicked on it and it said "Download Complete". I clicked on the notification and my phone rebooted into recovery, done a backup - installed the ROM and rebooted my phone.
All with no user interaction other than clicking the notification to start the process.
I have had other ROMs that when I try the same thing it will not reboot to recovery. I have to manually reboot recovery (I usually do it from a command prompt) then it will start the install.
On those ROMs selecting "Reboot into Recovery" didn't work either.
I have used it enough that I think different ROMs handle this differently.
I've never had any problems with rom manager. I always download my roms here on xda (like miui, for example) and flash them through rom manager, though.
Premium didn't really have anything I needed, but I got it anyway because koush is awesome.

major lag (very annoying)

I love my galaxy s but have one annoying problem with it...
When I click on the home button, it takes about a second for the screen to turn on. This is extremely annoying as you can imagine. I expect the screen to turn on from standby immediately... When it is on charge it will turn on immediately.
This problem is very noticeable... is anyone else experiencing this?
Are you running stock rom? The Samsung 2.1 and 2.2 are notoriously laggy. Get lagfix or flash a custom rom and your system will zip along
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i'm on a custom rom and i've got the same problem...
I found darkys really sped my phone up that runs voodoo lagfix. Currently running CyanogenMod 7 which is still beta but I've been running it for a week with few probs (just dont install the 0312 version it unmounts your SD cards) the 0311 nightly with the bilboa kernel of the same date is good, flashed the 0317 CM7 today and that runs well.
Cm7 is super smooth and fast, try it
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i'm now on miui, the fact is that this is still beta, but with CM7 it should be working really smooth and fast... maybe it's because of some wrong kernel or something, i don't know, i've got his problem since i moved on to 2.3, even when returned to 2.2.1, the lag was still there :/
Really? I've never had that problem. When things go wrong for me I usually flash stock froyo with Odin then reflash custom and all is well. You using mambos MIUI? That's not even alpha is it?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
beta 4 right now when i moved back to stock froyo it was even more laggy than bofore, i flashed miui on this froyo and the problem is still there, of course it's not as laggy as on stock JPY but i hate the fact that it is there, no matter how small it was
Seriously mate I don't think that MIUI ROM is even close. They don't have any of the source so its a bodge. Try flashing stock then flashing back to Cm7 and I'm sure you'll be fixed
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Thanks for the replies guys.
I used to run Darky's all the way up to 9.3. I was happy but saw someone else's galaxy s which seemed to switch on immediately and I wanted that. So in attempt to fix it I went to the Ultimate rom... At the start it seemed to have done the trick, but now back to normal. Laggy standby turn on
yea, i know you're right, but when i first flashed miui i fell in love with that rom, for me it's perfect even with so many bugs i hope they'll deal with them soon and then i will have the most perfect of all perfect roms ever
hm that's weird for me, when i had ultimate everything was ok, but maybe if i would have it little bit longer it would be the same situation as you had
I've not tried ultimate. Darkys is solid but Cm7 feels right somehow, real gingerbread smooth and fast. I loved the MIUI music player on Darky s and would like it back on CM 7 but at present its stable enough for me. Preferred the stock Samsung camera app though. Wish we could get that in cm7
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
can't you take the camera.apk from stock and put it into the cm7? i'm not sure if it can be done but i think i might work
No I don't think cm7 will run any Samsung apps as its based on aosp and all the Samsung apps are tied to ****wiz. The devs could tell you more but I think that's why

What are you ****tin on about? MIUI is stable enough to use as an everyday rom. Most bugs are share across CM7 and MIUI as MIUI uses CM7 base. It's a closed source meaning they don't openly share the code with the public and non-MIUI developers.
So anyone know why this lag is happening? A certain app maybe? I've had it with Darkys and Ultimate...
Really? I might give it a try - but do the MIUI apps work? Last I checked they didn't. No point having MIUI without their lovely apps, is there?

Have you tried entering 3-button recovery mode to format the SD card, clear cache etc etc. Installed a particular program right after you flash? Have you changed the animation speed from slow to fast?

Most of their apps (at least in the rom) work.
You can just install on top of CM7 and then uninstall if unhappy. Just make a backup first
Will clear cache delete any of my files?

Well I will give the MIUI a go over the weekend (not risking it now need phone for work tomorrow) and see for myself. I've tried several ROM s and keep flashing back to CM 7. Just wish that we could get a new bilboa voodoo kernel for this 0317 build because it seems the best yet. I was taking photos today for work on the 0311 build and the camera was glitching like hell, downloaded the latest build and the camera was fine, there's progress right there

Changing roms when you need camera

Custom roms have everything working except camera and camcorder.
I don't use camera much on phones, but if you don't need camera all of the time then flash a custom Rom. Do a backup of your stock Rom first, then do a backup of your custom Rom.
When you need camera just go to recovery, wipe data (factory reset) and restore your stock Rom. Should only take a few minutes. Repeat instructions to go back to custom Rom.
Having problems... wipe dalvik also in advanced recovery..
The more people trying out and working with custom roms, the better.

I'd really love the camera on the custom ROMs. How did the Defy do it? Don't we just have to find what libs and files to move over? Do you know of anyone working on it?
We really need bandroid back
theres a couple of htc phones with 3mp cameras any chance someone can take a look at that, there could be a clue
Its a lot more involved then just changing a few files. Some files have to be re-written from source, which is what's a pain in the rear.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
It looks like they added a couple etc camera files. Media profiles. And the three camera libs. Lib vorbisec for camcorder. Change some of the framewok.jar.
Its no easy task. I have talked to some very good devs and they had much trouble with camera until gb sources came out.

Trouble getting custom cameras flashed and working

I'm running a custom built 10/24 Carbon ROM on a vzw lg g2 (vs980) and I'm trying to flash various custom cameras to replace the generic camera that comes with the ROM. I've had very little success.
Currently I'm trying to get this one working (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2548974) and when I reboot, from twrp recovery, the phone hangs at the LG splash screen and never gets to the boot animation. At that point I reboot back to recovery and restore the nandroid backup.
I'd really like to get one of these better custom cameras running but am baffled by what is causing them to not work with my phone.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks.
Hi,
Simple, it don't work on CM... it's for LG based rom...(for the link you posted).
Take a look in the Theme & Apps section there is two LG camera apps available for CM/AOSP rom...

What do you mean by "LG based rom"? I'm aware of AOSP and CM but not sure what an "LG based rom" is (besides stock).
There are other cams out there like this one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525783) that do have a CM 10.2 flavor. The cam installs but then FC's every time I try to use it. Then, the default cam FC's until I reboot.
Hum... the first mod you point out is for LG rom, yes stock rom if you prefer... So no compatible with your rom.

Ok, I downloaded v2 AOSP Experimental and it flashes ok and acutally works... but going between back and forth between "IA" mode causes the camera to crash and the default camera freezes when taking pictures. I guess I can live with this.
Thanks.

[Q] What is the best Camera app for the G2?

I recently bought the G2 and apparently it has a really nice camera, but I'm just not seeing it, as the stock camera app seems to be doing a rubbish job. Does anyone have a solution, like a better app or another phones app ported over? Or are we just sticking it out?
The stock camera is the best of them all....If you want to improove it more, you need to be rooted and with a custom recovery, then install a camera mod that helps quite alot.
