Hi
I have UK version of s4, not rooted and on standard rom.
I have done an ota last week and since then the phone keeps on rebooting.
So much for the promised stability improvements!
I'm now on kernel 3.4.0.1567293
Android 4.4.2
I have done a master reset but the issue persist...
Any suggestions?

I think I have the same problem. I bought mine from Amazon Spain a few weeks ago. Since the OTA a couple of days ago, every time I open the flip cover, after about 10 seconds it reboots. It's not a bootloop. Mine was rooted with Towelroot. I had to reroot with the latest version of Towelroot. I didn't install a custom ROM as I want to keep my warranty valid. Was yours rooted?
I haven't tried a factory reset yet but, in view of your experience, it doesn't look like that will help.
My Build number now is KOT49H.I9505XXUG.NF1
Kernel 3.4.0 - 1854187
Are we alone?
How can I get back to the previous version?
Mine is not rooted

I think mine is sorted now, too. I thought I had fixed it last night. After reading another thread, I switched my spare battery. It worked for an hour but then started the same problem.
My next step was a factory reset but not letting Google automatically reinstall my old apps in case one of these was the culprit. I haven't finished reinstalling everything but, so far, it has not rebooted itself. Fingers definitely crossed. Probably posting this will be my downfall!

Update 3.1.01.5.0032 is now available. The description stated that the update was for memory optimization. The initial boot after the update took just over 5 minutes. Hopefully it's not that long all of the time. I haven't used it much since the update. I will report back after I use it for a while and give an update on how it's working.

OK so after using my Thrive for a few hours I have noticed that the lag I was getting from update 0029 is gone along with the lockups I was having. So far it's looking good.

Yes, I had been beta testing it for the last week. Seems real smooth. No issues have been noted.
Meanwhile here in Aus we haven't got a single update and are still on 3.0.1. Well glad to hear you guys are getting updates rolled out. ^^

You coud download the CWM recovery backup of 0032 (latest 3.2 load) and install CWM recovery. Install the backup and you would have the latest. I already had to help one individual that blindly rooted his Ausi Thrive with the 009 US 3.1 load and put his device into a boot loop. He is now running the 0029 HC 3.1 load with no issues.
While here in Japan we received a 3.1.02.5.0005 update a week and a half ago ...
silly question, feel free to flame...but does doing the update break root? i know in phones it does just not too sure about HC and tablets...

Well, kinda. You can not update without unrooting.
Having some trouble updating
Whenever I try to update it shows the Android with a Yellow triangle with an Exclamation point in him.
My thrive is rooted with the Netflix fix, should I just unroot and try it or should I try more drastic measures?
Also dalepl will you have another auto-rooter for 32?

You have to unroot to ba able to update. I do not think you would have to undo the NetFlix fix, but to be safe, I would. As for a root tool for 0032, it is already posted on ThriveForums.org and TabletRoms.com.
Just would like to say hi to everyone here. I am new to this forum and recently purchased a thrive....few questions on the update.
Anyone experience a slower/laggy performance after this update? To me, seems it was running better before.
Also, if I reset the tab, will the update revert back to the way it was 2 days ago when I first purchased it?
Thanks in advance...looking forward to learning more and eventually rooting this baby...after I edumikate meself on all that..lol

No, mine seems fine. It seems that a couple of individuals have reported this same thing. A full reset might be a good idea. As for revering back, no. It is already updated.

Thanks Paul. I will try a reset. I assumed that a sw update was kind of like any app install and that a reset would return it to factory (as purchased).
Is there a such thing as a "hard reset" that will do this rather than the reset through the os?

Th updatews actually replace or patch the OS on the device. The device uses this image when reset So, no, there is no way to just reset the device to revert back to a different load. You can flash the previous load back onto the device.

But correct me if I am wrong...I need root to do that right?
If that is the case, I am not ready to do right now because of lack of experience, root being fairly new and want to make sure I do want to keep this....have 14 days to return to BestBuy.
Thanks again for all your help and sorry if we got a bit off topic.

Yes, you will need root.
When attempting to wake up device (SPH-L720) from sleep using power or home button, it doesn't wake up, gets blank screen, the menu and back soft buttons LED lights come on, hangs for few secs on the black screen, then reboots by itself. Issue happens randomly and sometimes once a day or multiple times an hour. It seems like the problem existed before rooting and installing custom ROM but I've just noticed it.
I'm using TriForce 3.0 ROM (Android 4.2.2) w/ baseband L720VPUAMDL and kernel 3.4.0-KT-SGS4-ga23d84c. I've tried wiping/reinstall ROM, reflashing back stock ROM, removing microSD card. Nothing helped. The battery charges properly and is usually fully charged. No wear and tear or damage of any kind. Device is 1 month old.
Any ideas what might be causing the problem and suggestions for possible fix?

Did you find a fix? Does changing the kernel fix the problem? If so, which kernel did you go with? It's driving me crazy lol. Thanks!
I cannot speak to whether or not, as somebody else suggested, the kernal is at fault, but I too am using KT Kernal and have this issue.

Did you notice if you had the issue before rooting and flashing the KT kernel? I'm trying to narrow down the cause. I'm thinking of trying another kernel to test and see if it fixes the problem.

I don't recall it happening before root, but I rooted fairly soon after getting it. I cannot remember whether it happened while it was stock rooted. As to the kernel, I flashed it immediately after installing my rom, so I would not be able to distinguish between the two as a source.
I switched to the agat kernel and it stopped rebooting until I attempted to watch videos... So I went back to ktoonz..it is most defiantly a kernel issue as this is a known issue with that kernel I deal with it everyday and its absolutely annoying
There is a nice selection to pick from.. Agates..kt...stock....chronic..and faux ..had the same issues on KT but fixed it by UV down 15 across the board ..also for some reason 8/20 worked better for me ..but my fix might not work for anyone else..I really liked chronic..running faux now ..I hated reboots ..my phone was rebooting before I ever rooted it ..who knows my carrier wanted me to bring it in for a replacement ..decided it was time to start reading

Same situation here. I rooted and flash a custom ROM on mine right after I got it. I believe it had the issue pre-root on stock ROM/kernel, but I'm not a 100% sure. I had same issue w/ the Cyanogenmod ROM, not sure what kernel it was using.

Do you remember if you had the issue on stock ROM before rooting? I believe mine has always existed and might be a hardware problem because I tried different ROMs/kernels and issue persisted with all of them.

Is there a comparison thread of different kernels? I'm wondering what the pros/cons of each and maybe some user experience feedback. I believe mine was rebooting as well when it was on stock before rooting. This seems like it might be a hardware problem rather than software (ROM/kernel). Do you think everyone w/ a Sprint Galaxy S4 (SPH-L720) is having this issue? If so, Samsung should do something about it because it's super annoying!
Update: I've been using latest version of KT-SGS4 kernel 3.4.59 (Aug 25 build) for over a day and it's been pretty stable w/ no occurrence of the problem. I'll keep this thread posted w/ updates if I run into any problem. Thanks to everyone for their help!
2nd Update: it still has the problem.
It's still happening but at a slightly lower frequency with the latest KT-SGS4 kernel. For those who have tried a different kernel, did it fix the problem? I'm trying to narrow down the source and convince myself for certain that it's a software rather than a hardware issue.
Same issues
I have been a lurker here for a while, and have found most of the answers that I am looking for without having to ask any questions. For that I say thank you.
I would like to let you know that I am experiencing the same issue with my rooted SGS4. I do not recall having the issue before rooting the phone (I ran it stock for a month or so before rooting it in early July). Today I did a factory reset and re-installed Tri-Force 3.0. Here is some more info if it helps.
SPH-L720
Android 4.2.2
L720VPUAMDL
Hardware Ver. L720.08
Kernel 3.4.0-KT-SGS4-ga23d84c
I am going to try to un-root it this afternoon and go back to out of the box stock to verify it is not a hardware issue.
I am mostly posting here to follow the thread hoping for a fix.

Try that and odin back to stock mf9 not mdl. Tri-force is mf9 based so maybe thats why you get those issues because you need firmware kernel modem and such. Also it could be that kt kernel had been reported to cause some of those issues.
i went to a new rom and new kernal and this is still happening to me, i have no idea what it is now.... any solutions from anyone?

Hi I've had this Exynos Note 3 for a month now and I love it, best device all around that I've ever used. But I've found myself in a bit of a situation, since 4 days ago the phone have been rebooting at random times, it first started with the original rom it came with but rooted and it started with like one reboot a day, then I updated to the MJ7 version and it started rebooting almost every ten minutes for no reason. So I decided that maybe it was time for some Custom ROM love so yesterday I installed the Popurri ROM but while charging I've already experienced the first reboot.
Has someone experienced this kind of situation or someone have any idea of what I can do. Take in count that warranty is not an option because it was an import thanks to my carrier not getting the phone (thanks Telcel Mexico for the exclusive agreement with this phone, jackasses)

idk about AT&T, but with a D80x, you'd just need to flash the proper KDZ using the LG Flashtool.

Yeah there is an easy way to go back. Go to this thread by @SuperSport http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663369 and download one of the JB installers. No root needed and it won't root your phone. I've used his installers to upgrade to KK and back to JB and it worked fine for me. Make sure to backup anything you want to keep because it will wipe all of your files.
thanks guys... that worked!
Hey guys I have this exact same issue (trying to go from the 4.4.2 back to 4.2.2) Except I'm on the Tmobile version of the G2 (D801 I believe). Any hope for me? I looked at that thread and those all seem to be AT&T versions.
Oh and I did that upgrade with no previous root or unlock or anything, bought from the store, and went right to 4.4.2 with the LG tool. now I wanna get back so i can root it.

mine was that I use yahoo IM a lot. It is probably more of a yahoo issue than KK, but I lost my LED light for yahoo. Other than that, it seemed exactly the same as 4.2.2 did except added a couple of apps...
FWIT: I did this procedure, it worked like a champ... worked extremely well... but if ya do it, might consider removing the SIM card. It like erased my SIM... I don't know why it would... but it didn't work after that. Had to go to ATT and get it reset. Didn't cost anything, just a minor nuisance. Over all, I would do it again!
Thanks!

I always do a factory reset after a big system update because I've found that you tend to get bugs and things after the update. The reset usually cures it.

My daughter's G2 (AT&T) is not working right after OTA to Lollipop. The typical issue is battery drain, next is the Google calendar sync and Contact sync issue and then the apps startup lagging. She did try factory reset, but that did not fix any issues at all.
Is there any way to revert back to KitKat or work around to all these issues ? She is very frustrated for the update.
Thanks,

Well, you could try to see or there might be a newer lollipop version available for the g2 else you could always try some custom roms or only flash dorimanx kernel as lollipop went much better when I flashed that kernel. but I suggest to disable root on your daughters phone.
If these 3 things don't solve it well, then she has to go back to kitkat.
