[Q] Lock screen security bypass with Android Wear watch connected? - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Is it possible to bypass the lock screen security feature while my Samsung Gear Live is connected to my phone (Samsung S5)? My Samsung Galaxy Gear 1 allows me to bypass the lock screen security as long as it's connected to my phone. I was hoping that feature was also available with an Android Wear watch. Any ideas?
Thanks,
GP

Use a tasker profile for that. Done

No lock home xposed plug in works great. There is an appstore app as well, it gets used with the pebble (called pebble lock I believe)

I use either tasker or delayed lock.

Pebble locker works great
You can set WiFi networks or Bluetooth devices as trusted admins so the lock screen won't be used if your connected to any you have set. Eg set your home WiFi and watch as trusted. Then whenever your at home you won't get the pin lock. When you out and have your watch you won't need it. But leave phone on bus with no watch or trusted WiFi then it locks down. Its v good

Problem with this software or the tasker BTNear function, is the battery consumption it requires to track the device.
Here is an alternative solution i made here that take virtually no battery, and root is not needed.
The trick is that it will not track the device itselft, but the notification Android make when the device is connected/disconnected.

...dammit. That's genius. Why didn't I think of that before making a way-too-complicated set of Tasker profiles and actions? :|

Wear Unlock will do it, but I experienced some battery drain (on the phone) that I believe was related to it (since it went away when i uninstalled it).
Either way, I found the app to not be as helpful as I originally thought, just because of how good the reception between watch and phone is. I have to basically leave my house before it would lock my phone, I was hoping for a solution that would lock my phone if I just stepped outside of the room. Plus, with Wear Aware I get vibrations when the two lose communication anyway, so its not like I'm going to forget it somewhere and wish it was locked anyway.

For me, the point is in case the phone gets stolen somehow. At least then it'll lock itself before I can get to a computer or another phone and lock it remotely.

I use the No Lock Home module from Xposed, works a treat.

Pebble Unlocker is what I had been using before the LG G watch and it still works with the LG. Also allows you to set other trusted BT and WiFi devices (car's BT, home WiFi, etc).

Yea but does it work like in the Google IO demo? (where the guy just handed his phone to the dude standing right next to him and it would require a pin to unlock).

Idk "magic" ? You saw the video... if it works it's probably the best way to use watch to unlock...I feel like "unlock on bt connected to watch" is a bit too insecure

1 - battery drain in standby shouldn't be significant but you can reduce it by turning off radios you don't need and/or reducing the update interval of any apps you have checking in the background.
2 - I'm not sure what's happening here, usually the wifi logo overwrites the 3g one so it is obvious which one is in use (at least it does on my UK SGT, might be different for CDMA). Either way switching on and off the various radios is easily done from the notification area, just swipe down from the top of the screen to show toggles for wifi, bt, gps, silent mode & orientation lock.
Edit: oops, I miss remembered, I don't know of an easy way to switch the mobile radio.
3 - I had a bit of a play with allshare day one but haven't had time to give it a proper workout yet.
4 - I haven't had mine run down that far but it sounds like a sensible power saving measure, better to see it dim for a while than bright for two minutes!
5 - the screen auto adjust in the display settings seems to help a lot. Other than that I've found the battery life to be very good for the most part. I tend to only switch on wifi if I have a big download to do so that might help in my case.
Welcome by the way, hope you enjoy the tab!

THANKS Bill! Appreciate the info/advice!
I guess I am getting confused between the 3g/ the strength bars. So if it doesnt say 3g but just shows signal strength then its probably using wifi?
Does anyone know if the SGT defaults to wifi first then to 3g? Just curious.

When wifi is on it turns 3g off. I use an app called tasker to save my battery. I have it set to turn wifi/3g off when the screen turns off, and if I place it face down it sets the device into airplane mode, left in this state the battery drains very slow when not in use. Tasker is not the cheapest app but you are only limited by your imagination what you can do with it.

Anyone else know how to use allshare? According to samsung you cannot stream from your pc to the tablet is this correct?
i am actually trying to do both stream from the pc to the tab and then seperately stream from the tab to the tv or blu ray player and or pc and nothing works any which way? not sure how to get this to work?
thanks
AllShare is an app that you can use to connect to other Samsung AllShare enabled divices like TV's. I removed the app. It is completely useless. (It would be so nice if there was an app by which I could connect to my homenetwork.)

Not quite correct! It allows you to stream from/to other DLNA devices which includes some Samsung TV's, but plenty of other devices too.
For example, I use to it to stream from/to my PCs with Media Center.

MotoACTV as a sleep tracker

I am a bit put off by the fact that motorola hasn't implemented a sleep tracker into the motoACTV. Given that they are pretty much all the rage nowadays with fitness trackers (ie. Fitbit zip and one, Jawbone UP, etc).
Im wondering if anyone has tried to use their rooted motoactv to run a sleep tracking app from the market place and how it worked for you? I just downloaded SleepBot (unless you have another recommendation) and am planning to try it tonight. However that app is meant to be ran on a phone, while plugged in and set near your pillow. It uses the phone's accelerometer to monitor your tossing and turning in bed, the phone's microphone to monitor your noises/snoring/sleeptalking and also requires the phone screen to be on during the whole time. That last part is what has me worried. I don't think that the motoactv has the ability to keep a screen lit, albeit the app dims the screen for you, for 8+hrs.
It would be nice to have software built into the MotoACTV like the jawbone UP does. Anyone have some input?
Tried sleepbot app. Didn't work. The screen size doesn't allow the whole app to display once in sleep mode tracking motion. The wake up button gets hidden and the app gets stuck in the tracking mode rendering pretty much useless. Tonight um trying sleep as android. This time I tested it during tracking and confirmed the app fits the screen or can be scrollable.
I was surprised to wake up and have 60% battery left.

The actv has a built in sleep tracker. DPRom has it enabled. The software is in all roms that contain the stock firmware, but the app may be disabled for some as it doesn't come with an icon to launch it. In those cases, you may be able to manually launch it using a file explorer or something. It is called "SleepAnalysis.apk".

Thanks for this! I had no idea. So if its enabled I should see an icon for it? In the android app list or within the listing of activities? I can't wait to test it. Thanks again!
Edit: I couldn't find the apk by searching so I found your post on another thread tht offered it as a downloadable with adb commands to install it. Works perfect! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36528460&postcount=399

That sucks. Hopefully they haven't completely abandoned it. I've used it the past 2 nights. It works well. Maybe they're planning to release a new smart watch and launch the finished product of the sleep analysis then. And then xda peeps will port it to motoactv!
A couple of issues I've run into with the current state of the sleep analysis is that you must be at least 80% charge before starting because over the course of your sleep it discharges by about 75%(this might be because of root and rom). The tracker works when screen is off unlike a lot of sleep tracking apps on the market for smartphones. Also it usually states that I'm awake for 1hr and been awaken 7-8 times during my sleep. I don't know how true that is. The graph is hard to read due to screen size as well. I'm sure there was going to be a syncing deal with it. To export to phone or pc.
A few things I want to learn is how exactly the motoactv knows when I'm in deep sleep/ light sleep, and what sets it off to say I'm awake. Also want to know what's the optimum way to wear it. With wrist strap or clip on hip.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Funny, I turned on marathon mode to save battery and tracked my sleep last night (which I only got 4 hrs). Turns out that the 3 second refresh caused me to be in "deep sleep" for all four hours which is bogus.
On the up side it finished the night with 80% battery which is a drastic savings over being on normal battery saver.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Well after a week of using the native sleep tracker, I've gotta say it isn't very good. I was hoping it'll give me me info sheet the initial 7 nights. But nothing. You can't view previous cycles, only the overall score. But this was to be expected because it's largely unfinished. It's a shame though. And the android Market is lacking beyond sleep as andros or sleep bot.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Are they on the market for another android device? If so, download it to that device, titanium backup, then copy the backed up apk to your computer and sideload it to the actv via adb.
Sent using XDA-funded carrier pigeons
Yes they are. They work but they're heavy on the battery.
As of late, the native sleep analysis application has begun to force close every time.

It does not work very well at all, it tends to drain the battery of the motoactv during the night. The app recommends you plug your phone in during use, so it is pretty power hungry.

Nexus 6 as car stereo with Chromecast and Appradio

I just set up my phone to cast itself to my car stereo when my car turns on.

Cool.
That's sick. I was just thinking the other day what the hell I was going to do with my $400 AppRadio I haven't been able to use with either of my last two phones, the MotoX or the N6 . Great idea, throw a Chromecast in it. Idk how hard casting the screen is on the battery but it has to be better than MHL was, and none of that static nonsense either.
Thanks man.
Nice work OP!
I've been looking to do something similar in my '11 STI. I'd love to incorporate the Android experience into my car's dash. I previously looked at the App Radio but people were reporting the annoying delay in the touch screen. Then I started looking at the new Ca-Fi Dashlinq4 Android Car Stereo, which seems to be a perfect solution. But at $500+, I just can't justify it.

Alternatively, permanently installing the Nexus 7 still seems to be the best option. But it requires some custom modification, which I really don't want to do.

I had an AppRadio 3. Hated it. To get app mode working was a huge pain, then I needed a parking brake bypass. It kept costing more and more. I ended up buying an AVIC and got rid of it. The AppRadio was so lacking in features for the price it was sickening.

Have not listen to a radio in over six years, welcome to the age of hands free. And if you use bluetooth and Enhanced Caller ID from app store, it will read your mail and text to you and allow you to respond with your voice and read what you said back and ask you if it's okay to send. So uh, seems like your doing things the hard way. Plenty of great sounding receivers out there that will give you a hell of a sound that include bluetooth and have built in mics along with USB ports and HDMI so, get one that gives you great sound and power and a mount that goes in the radios CD slot and you are set to go with a touch screen a moment away and hands free everything else. There is also an assistant app you can get at the play store to do many commands that are phone related with just your voice. Personally, I get in my car, put the phone in its wireless charging dashboard mount, The NFC sticker on the mount turns bluetooth on/off for me automatically and stream to my hearts content. Easy and affordable. What cost me the most was good speakers and some power amps to push the sound through.

I leave bluetooth on all the time because I have a lot of devices. I have not listened to the radio for 12 years, and I don't have any intention of starting. My previous phone had to plug in and I had a little dock made where I could hide my phone away. I am going to get a magnetic Qi mount I think now that I am completely wireless, I just mostly wanted to show people how it works with a chromecast in this video. I also use hands free and voice for everything.

I personally don't notice a huge touch delay. It is there I guess, but I don't notice it. I really like my setup, even more so now that it is wireless. I usually use voice commands for navigation, text, and music, so I never touch the screen to notice the slight lag anyhow. It all depends on how you use it though.

It was a little spendy, but 100% mirror on my phone makes it have every feature I could ever want. Putting my phone on the dash, I can't think of anything it doesn't do.

If it is plugged in it charges faster than it drains, haven't tried Qi yet, but will figure out how I will do it and get a cool magnetic dock. I cant kill the battery over a day anyhow so I don't even plug it in most of the time while I am driving.
I'm using the Microsoft Miracast wireless display adapter on my AppRadio2. Works rather well. I had to edit the build.prop to enable Miracast though. Next up is a wireless charging mat to go 100% wireless on mine. Thanks for the tip on AutoInput, will be nice to fully automate the connection process.

Connecting Chromecast to a device with a touch screen allowed you to control your phone this way, or is that a feature of the device you used?

If you turn off the screen then it wont cast. That is why I have brightness set to lowest when it runs. Still charges faster than drains, so I just set it upside down and forget about it.

I know, but there were apps for other phones that would cut the power to the screen but trick it into thinking it was still on... Granted they never worked perfectly, but that would be ideal if they did.

Yeah it's the AppRadio, the Chromecast is just used for displaying the screen. The AppRadio sends the coordinates of the touches it detects to the phone via bluetooth.

When I did this with my galaxy nexus I used Screen off #ROOT or something, but it hasn't worked for a phone since that one. I haven't found a good one that does it since then, but to be honest I haven't really looked in a year or so.
I'm wondering if it would be possible to have the display output with the phone "locked" since it will show the clock on an external display when off and locked.
I just confirmed that "Screen Standby ♯ Root" does work for turning off the N6 screen while still mirroring to AppRadio.

Or u could just stream it through Bluetooth?

Anti Theft Measures you guys have taken

So I got this phone for my lil sister and I want to make it sure the phone is anti-theft bust proof as possible.
She doesn't use Mobile Data as much because using Wifi is more convenient at places. Not having Mobile Data running makes Android Device Manager useless so does Xperia.
Is there a way to using SMS to lock the phone, or make it turn on the GPS which automatically forwards me the coordinates, or uses the SMS to send command to connect to the mobile internet which makes Android Device Manager/Xperia bultin in anti theft work?
I just play music and put my earphones behind or in my ears.
There is 0 reason why my music should stop when im walking around and about.

Oh my bad, thats really clever. What about the software side of tracking the device. Do you have any?
Since I started buying unlocked phones, I can no longer insure it. 500 USD It is A LOT in Mexican pesos, like 2 months of hard work at a sweatshop. So this are the security measures I've taken:
1-SIM lock
2-Pattern lock
3-As device administrators: my xperia, android device manager and the most powerful of all: CERBERUS
How It is configured:
I cannot live without a rooted phone. The main reason I got into the modding forums was to install Cerberus, that was way back in 2011. Now that we have the Xposed framework we can keep our phones a little more secure.
With the Advanced Power Menu (APM) module, you can configure what options are available on the lockscreen. If you steal my phone, you WILL NOT BE ABLE to:
-turn it off
-put it on silence
-set the airplane mode
The only option available on the lockscreen is the screenshot and LED light. And cerberus will take a photo of your ugly face and send me your location. Even if the phone is about to get lost forever, I can perform a factory reset and delete all the data on the external microSD.
Root is absoultely needed for the xposed and cerberus to work!

Wow thanks for detailed reply. You have convinced me to root the phone only to get anti theft program running and not for custom Roms etc. Phone is not cheap by any standard and anti theft measures must be taken.
The advance power menu look very awesome and just the thing. I need.
I have some questions. With your device, is your location and Mobile Data always on? Doesn't this the drain the battery ? Can the thief steal your phone and replace the Sim gain access to the device? Can you still connect with the phone? Is it possible to gain control of the new sim card installed to connect to mobile interner and upload pictures and coordinates?

Yes, My Z2 is always online
Battery drain is normal for me. I charge it at every chance I have. I'm OCD when it comes to battery level.
If the SIM is replaced the phone is still locked by the pattern
But if the SIM is replaced with another carrier's SIM, this will f*ck up the internet connection. No data and no WiFi means no easy way for the phone to get access to mobile data or WiFi...but if the thief can unlock and does a factory reset, Cerberus survives and will still protect the phone after a factory reset. Unfortunately, Flashtool o PC Companion will erase everything (except for the external microSD).
Remember to keep the box or the phone's IMEI number and get as fast as possible to a police station or a carrier's customer center to lock the phone.
OK. Do you think the carrier's can track the location of the mobile if I give them the IMEI number? Or does this depend carrier to carrier?
Also if I want Ceberus to really effective, I would need to root the phone?
My suggestion would be to use pattern lock or even better a number lock.. And also encrypt the phone.. That way if stolen, thy wil reboot the phone sometime and it gets locked @boot itself if i am not wrong. BTW use theftie app if u r rooted and also switch on "location services" only.. It wont drain much like gps..

AFAIK the IMEI only bans the phone from mobile networks. No way of getting it back and yes, Cerberus needs root to be a powerful device manager.

Yeah, Cerberus is a great app. Used that for a while when they had their Free App promotion.
There is only one little problem with this
What happens if you steal a phone? You shut it down and flash a clean new rom!
Powerbutton + Volume down for 10 seconds and the Xperia Z2 is offline! Not as easy as pulling out the battery, but if you know how it's as fast.

Nope, you cannot locate the IMEI. You can only register the IP adress from which this IMEI has accessed the internet.
And i'm not even sure the provider can do this.... google play store can for sure! But is the IMEI also sent when the SIM card is connecting to the network?
Me myself i don't use any theft protection... not even sure if myXPeria is activated atm ^^ Simply for the Reasons:
A: My phone will not get stole! nope it just wont!
B: if i ever lose my phone i trust the finder to bringt it back! I don't even have a number pattern, so the finder could call Australia if he felt like it. I'd rather hope he'd call home and tell me i lost my phone

True, I personally never lost my phone but been very close to it recently. It can just happen without you knowing. Like I was at the gym doing leg workout while laying on a machine.
My phone just slipped out and fortunately while leaving the machine, I found it. Now if I hasn't, lost
Also depends which country you are living, there aren't that many good people walking around these days.

Regardless of the measures people take to protect their phone, couldn't someone just hold the power button for 5 seconds and force shut down the phone? Then flash an ftf file via Flashtool to wipe everything?

Lemfo Y3 issues

Notifications sometimes don't work, especially for calls. It stays connected fine with Nougat, though I can't figure out how to track sleep. The specs state that it can.
Until today. I added the watch as one of my "trusted devices" so the phone stays unlocked when they're in range of each other, and it disconnected. Now when I try to reconnect in WiiWear, it crashes and disconnects again. I've forgotten the watch, removed it from "trusted devices," wiped cache, reinstalled WiiWear, etc, and it still crashes. HELP!

I've had it. Constantly disconnecting, having to reset the watch to get it to connect again, and crashing assistant "SinWear" app. Pissing me off. I'm returning this.

Sorry to hear about your issues. I'm considering buying one myself. Do you think this is mostly a problem with the watch (i.e. hardware) or something with the connection between the phone app and the watch software?
Also, if you don't mind taking a minute to tell me, what did you think of the build quality and general usability of the Y3?

I have the Y3, and the connection problem is very real. Until yesterday, I could not maintain any reliable connection between the watch and my phone. The Bluetooth would continually connect and disconnect, and the m2d manager and receiver were very quickly being killed after the the screen turned off. Then I stumbled on the cause. I was checking the app notification log using Google gesture and noticed an app called Battery Master posting silent notifications. This app does not show in the app list and is not accessible in any other settings screen. However, when I tapped on one of the notifications in the notification log, it took me to the info screen for Battery Master and gave me the option to disable the app, which I did. Bluetooth, m2d, and notifications have worked perfectly ever since. So far I have not noticed any significant difference in battery drain but it will probably take a few days to know for sure.
Build quality of the watch is excellent. I love the watch now that the connection issue is fixed. The display is awesome since there is no black band around the outside and no flat tire. I've installed the ClockSkin launcher which provides a better looking interface and allows installation of all the excellent LEM5 watch faces available from the G+ user group. Battery life for me (after disabling Battery Master) seems to be about 10 hours.

That's good to hear. You should definitely make a quick Youtube video about the fix, or even just a thread here on XDA. I bet a lot of people never discovered what was the cause of their connection issues and just returned the watch. One question though, does that fix persist through a reboot, or do you have to disable the Battery Master app each time you start the watch?
Please update us if your connection issues continue to be resolved with that fix (or not).

It's actually really good. It's a solid watch, and it has a lot of good uses. I wish it did work with apps like Google Fit and Sleep as Android though, but it's not really necessary as those work fine with just the phone as is. It is supposedly IP67-rated water proof, but I don't recommend testing that by completely submerging it, or showering with it on. It likely is OK with washing hands, though. Or sweat. Never had a problem even with my original Moto 360 in that regard.
One thing these will never do is make or receive calls over Bluetooth. None of them will.
They are a stand alone watch phone. Never made to call through Bluetooth.
Cheers

Download the app Google Gesture Search from the play store onto your watch. This will allow you to easily search for settings options that are not accessible through the watch's launcher. Search for Notification Log. In the log, tap on any line that says Battery Master. This will take you to the app info page for Battery Master. You can't uninstall the app but you can disable it. This will allow Bluetooth to stay connected and will allow the m2d manager and receiver to stay running.
Using m2d, the phone will reconnect with the watch automatically if you come back into Bluetooth range.
Be aware that once you disable Battery Master, there is no way to re-enable it because it won't show up in the logs. I'm guessing that a firmware update or a factory reset would re-enable it.

The IP67 rating is a misprint, on the official LEMFO store at AliExpress, the listing for the Y3 states that it is IP65 rated. I took a screenshot because I know a lot of people were confused about that.

That's really too bad. I really would like a watch like my Gear S (which also allows you to use a SIM card) that can simply pass the call through the watch. For driving it is great to keep your hands on the wheel. I wonder why the feature isn't on more watches. It seems like a no-brainer.

Neither Wiiwear or Sinwear will run on my Nexus 5x. I think it's an incompatibility with Android 7+. You can sync notifications to the Y3 using m2d once you fix the Bluetooth problem by disabling Battery Master.
