Best practice is to use the stock recovery for the system version you are using. So if you are on 4.4 19.6.3 then use the recovery from that fxz

OTA patch snag
Whether I attempt the patch via the OTA push or via the download => stock recovery, I'm hitting a snag and getting the message "system/build.prop has unexpected contents".
I'm rooted and unlocked. Only other mod is Native Tether for Kit Kat 19.5.3.
Any suggestions as to the root cause and/or a workaround? Thanks in advance!

Replace the build.prop you used for the tether hack with the original build.prop
Thanks for the advice regarding the original build.prop file. I've reviewed the directions for Native Tether for Kit Kat 19.5.3 and I'm not seeing a step where build.prop is backed-up or modified, so I'm stumped regarding how to replace the current modified build.prop with the original.
I'd appreciate any suggestions or help. Thanks again.

Sorry didn't notice the .5. If it's saying there is an issue with the build.prop file then you will have to replace it. I'll see if I can find it and send you a link.
You may also have to delete the vzwentitlementservice.apk that you downloaded and placed in priv-app and rename the old ones, deleting the .bak

Would it be possible for you to send me the stock build prop also. I thought I renamed it correctly but now it will not boot and if I try to install the update it says the build.prop is missing. I'm guessing I will have to try to push the build prop it with adb if I can figure out how. Thanks

I seen a few threads for rooting the 10.1 ICS update but the links seem to be dead. The same root file for Honeycomb will install but doesn't seem to work. Since the same root method worked for the WiFi only version on Honeycomb I'm assuming it will be the case for ICS. Does anyone know if it will work and also maybe a link to get this zip file to flash in CWM? I have installed CWM touch recovery and that works fine just no root yet.

The existing root zip does work but you need to update Superuser after. Check the Superuser website for the latest update for your processor. Hope this helps! Worked for me.

So I followed this method and my phone rebooted but nothing happened. I had to power it on my self and it booted to android.
After you've downloaded the recovery IMG file, I assume you grabbed the correct one for your model, open Flashify app, select recovery image on the flash tab, browse to where you saved it and confirm. Job done.
The app should then ask you to reboot and it will boot into twrp.

Hmmm not sure to be honest.
It worked perfect for me.
Maybe try deleting the downloaded IMG file and flashify app and reinstalling and try again.

No I don't have a guide. I'll just give you the files you need because I don't feel like typing much. Lol. Flash this with Flashify. Its 2.6.3.3 specifically patched for 12B https://www.dropbox.com/s/meddqewk6muv8p5/twrp.img Then reboot to recovery and flash this https://www.dropbox.com/s/rnj9i1lsg8oc1js/Stock-TWRP2.7-VS980.zip I made that one patched for all firmwares since the newest one won't flash on 12B it seems. SuperSU isn't working great for our device for root access so that's why it's stuck where it's at. Read up here http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...rom-stock-rooted-debloated-x1575-6-0-t3262242 and restore your phone and install one of these backups and do not use SuperSU to root for now. Sure does! I also just read that... But this way is a safer bet for people that don't wanna mess with flashing multiple files. I myself just want a systemless root with stock recovery which I have obtained finally. Problem is LOTS of posts in these forums are giving different instructions and there is no clear method for everyone unless you end up reading the proper one first.

It won't. AT&T and (and I think possibly Sprint too) doesn't release updated firmware releases. They only make the original (in this specific instance, KitKat) firmware available and that's it. If you're already on 5.1.1 you should make a system dump and then see if anyone's willing to make you a firmware file from it. If you're not on 5.1.1 and want to be, I have the original OTA file if you need

The only firmware Samsung or AT&T has released (and most likely will ever release) is the original KitKat firmware: LTE AT&T SM-T337A UCU1ANF4 And unfortunately I've heard that others have not been able to downgrade when trying. It sounds like you need to bring it into the store, unless the boot(LP fix).tar can get your tab booting again

I've tried everything, including the boot(LP fix) and bring it to best buy....it all started with a root, where the message shows "System software not authorized by AT&T has been found..." then i used the boot(LP fix) subsequently causing the fact that the AT&T globe is stuck on boot up perhaps FOREVER...

@AllenPlaysGames too. I am trying to make a 5.1.1 Odin firmware file for you guys, but I don't have the device. So you/I need someone with the SM-T337A to at the very least make a system dump . Ideally I would also need the modem.bin, NON-HLOS.bin, recovery.img, a cache dump, and the PIT file. But at the very least, you need to go into these other threads and ask someone with rooted lollipop to make a system dump. And the other things I mentioned if at all possible.
@CocaFoca, @TechNyne66 any chance you could help?

I possibly could? I have my tablet but all it does is boot loop when I turn it on. Is there any way that I can get a system dump from download mode or recovery? If so, I can be of assistance.
Sorry I'm in need of system restore as well, due to root experimenting. But someone with a working device can root via our method and gain the system dumps. Would be nice as my wife is made I broke my tablet I can assist anyone who wishes to try
