Hi,
I've a Chinese version of the Samsung Galaxy Y SCH-i509 that doesn't come with any Google app/services/framework as it's always the case with Chinese versions of Android. My goal was to install these Google app/services/framework so here's what I tried:
I transfer via USB the Google Installer (谷歌应用下载器) apk to the SD card and installed it. Via the Google Installer, I install Gmail and Play store. You get the message that the Google Service Framework needs to be installed but the installation fails.
I manually transfer via USB the GoogleServicesFramework apk to the SD card and try to copy/paste it via ES File Explorer to /system/app but it fails, saying "unable to write the source file".
I root the phone following this tutorial. I check that the phone is rooted via RootValidator: OK.
I install the mount /system (rw /ro) apk and select "Mount r/w"
In ES File Explorer, I check the properties of the folder /system/app: the folder is "Writable".
I try to copy/paste the GoogleServicesFramework apk via ES File Explorer to /system/app but it fails, saying "unable to write the source file".
I don't understand why.
At this point, I'm thinking to look for a custom ROM to install but can't find any on Internet for my model of phone.
I also can't find the Chinese stock ROM.
The related information I found about this phone is always for Indonesian or Indian versions, not for the Chinese one.
Can someone help me to achieve what I want, i.e being able to write in /system/app in order to copy/paste the GoogleServicesFramework apk? Or suggesting me an English custom ROM?
Just flash gapps via cwm

Flashing through CWM sounds like a good idea. However, I don't know how to install CWM and need your advise. I installed the ROM Manager app on the phone. When I launch it for the 1st time, it asks me to install CWM. But at the "Confirm Phone Model" step, the app proposes me a list of phones but not mine. So I click on "Device Not Listed Above" under "Unsupported Device" and I get the message "SCH-i509 does not have an officially supported ClockworkMod Recovery yet. Have you installed a ClockworkMod based recovery manually?". I click "No" and get the message "Sorry! Until ClockworkMod recovery is available, ROM Manager will not work with SCH-i509!"
Is there another way for me to install CWM Recovery? If yes, can you advise me?

Actually I didn't know this feature! So I turned it on and here's the results:
The rights shown on the list view are "drwxr-xr-x"
When I click on Properties, the Owner, Group and Other have Read and Execute rights but only Owner has Write right. When I tick Write rights for Group and Other, I get the message "Sorry operation failed". The Owner and Group is "root".
Any advise regarding the info provided?

Greetings.
I am trying to install Cyanogenmod 7.0.2 on my HTC Tattoo (still has 1.6). This is the first time I've done this.
I am following the Cyanogenmod wiki page that shows you the whole process of rooting+flashing a new rom (since this is my first post I am unable to post outside links in this thread).
In the "Installing Clockworkmod Recovery" section, I get the following error when trying to flash the image:
flash_image: not found
I listed the files in /sdcard and saw that it was completely empty.
Can anyone tell me what I missed?
I copied the Clockworkmod image file to the root directory by connecting my phone to my PC through USB (USB Debugging was on) and copying the file there.
Please let me know how to solve this.
Thank you.
I was able to solve my problem and proceed with the attempt to flash Clockworkmod. Now I'm getting another error though:
error writing recovery: No space left on device
I have plenty of space in the SD Card (~2GB), but I'm assuming the problem is with the phone's internal memory. I don't know what I can delete.
Any thoughts?
Thank you.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
I tried to do as you said and installed both Rom Manager and Superuser. But now I have other issues...
1. On Superuser, it says there is a newer version of su and to update. I accept and get the following error:
An error occurred and su was not updated. A zip file (su-2.3.1-bin-signed.zip) has been placed on your sdcard, please reboot into recovery mode and flash it to update your binary.
2. So, I decided to ignore the update of su and just move on to Rom Manager. Here, I get an error like "su was not found in /system/bin". Well, su is in "/data/local/bin", as per the cyanogen wiki to root the phone. After this, any attempt to flash Clockworkmod fails.
3. To try to make it so Rom Manager has everything it needs, I followed the wiki again, but this time I tried to move the su file to /system/bin. I got the following error:
failed on './su' - Cross-device link
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Hmm, i had the same problem when i was trying to Flash CM7...
Your phone is not rooted...
I know its very frustrating but no worries!
1.Download program from this thread ->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761507... you'll see the program in attachemnts and dl the first one.
2.Paste it in your's SD card , install it (use ASTRO MANAGER, to find the program)
3.Open the program and root the phone with 1 click
4. Then Superuser will ask you to allow it and click yes, and go to ROM MANAGER.
5.You will have to allow the Superuser here too.. Do it.
6.Flash Clockwork Mod recovery, and reboot into recoverymod.
7.Flash your Rom , flash Gapps(Google applications)
8.Enjoy
Thank you CROpipe!
Your instructions worked! I now have CM7 installed on my HTC Tattoo!
Here are the issues I found though:
1. When I was trying to download the ROM using ROM Manager, the list of ROMs was empty. Maybe it's because I was not using the Premium version...? I ended up downloading the ROM from the forum, copying it to the SD card and installing it that way.
2. I tried also to install GApps through Rom Manager. I was afterwards able to set up my google account, but I still had to manually download GMail, Google Maps, ... I'm not sure if this is actually how it's supposed to go... :-/
Anyway, thanks again for the help.
Yap that is quite allright Congrats on your new ROM ))
Hi All,
I am a new bee in this area. I have a Htc Desire (Bravo) rooted with S-Off. I have installed "HiApk 1.1 ROM with sense" but did not found the app Facebook for Htc Sense. I love that app as it automatically sync you Fb contacts to your phone with Pictue and other details.
After searching and reading lot, I found the HtcFacebook.apk to install that app.
But, When I am trying to install that app from sdcard after a small processing it says "Can not install application".
I have no idea how to do that, Please help me..
I'll be great full..
Thanks In Advance

Thanks for the help. Yes I have downloaded the rom from that thread only and also downloaded the social app package.
But that package only contains the .apk file nothing else, and when I just try to install those my phone through a message e.g. "Application not installed".
I want some update.zip type package, which I can update from my recovery...!
whats the difference between normal facebook and facebook for htc sense?

The reason it says 'application not installed' is because it is supposed to be a system app and hence, is not signed. Thus, to 'install' that app, either create an update.zip yourself and flash via recovery or use a file explorer with the ability to access root folders (eg. root explorer) and copy the apk to /system/app or /data/app (if you do not have space in the system partition) and reboot the phone.

There is none to my knowledge.
Before Sense 3.5, Facebook for HTC Sense application was syncing contact photos with contacts, birthdays and events with calender and so on... Normal facebook application wasnt doing those stuff. I think, thats why he needs that application.
With Sense 3.5, phone is getting information from regular facebook application which we can download from market. It is asking for permission and than syncing all data like old times

I tried downloading both signed and unsigned versions of the app (htcfacebook.apk) and pasting it into system/app and rebooting and nothing happened except for a force close message upon reboot.
I tried putting in data/app and nothing happened either.
I tried putting it in a zip file pasting it into the SD card and rebooted into recovery CWM. I chose instal zip from SD card and it showed some progress then said "installation aborted".
Any help?
tried with no avail
I tried copying the files to system/app using root explorer but nothing happened. I tried putting them in a zip file and renaming it update.zip then installed it from recovery. Still nothing. any ideas?

Run these command step by step in your terminal emulator window
# put HtcFacebook.apk in your sd card @ root
# su
# mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
# cat /sdcard/HtcFacebook.apk > /system/app/HtcFacebook.apk
# cat /sdcard/HtcFacebook.apk > /sd-ext/app_s/HtcFacebook.apk
# mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
reboot the phone.
This helps me on different roms.

Hello XDA,
So I was following a youtube guide that shows how to root nexus s. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSD92Qjt5Og). This is one click verison. So after unlocking the bootloader, when its time to select flash CWM, the CMD window would just close. I guess the file i was using were bad. So then i switched over to another youtube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA6DlAqYUeo). In this video, (using the files in video's description), I mananged to flash CWM (but i used the latest verison of CWM 5023-cyan.img). Then pretty much followed the video and got superuser installed on my nexus. Now when i tried to boot into recovery, it will not boot into CWM. it shows the android with exclamation mark and there when i press volume up and power, i am taken to the stock recovery i guess.. So now I am confused if my phone is rooted. I do have superuser installed on my phone right now (version that was included in the 2nd youtube video) but I don't have CWM. I am interested in flashing other ROMS. How and what should i do? Sorry for the long explanation. Thanks for your help
Use root explorer or similar program to rename the file "/system/etc/install-recovery.sh" to anything you like (e.g. install-recovery.sh.bak), as this script is run on boot and replaces a custom bootloader if it is installed. After this just flash CWM again and you can be free
You'll have to do this anytime you install a Google Stock ROM.

I installed ES File Explorer and I cannot locate any folder called system.. the only 3 folders I see are "android", "clockworkmod", "Lost.DIR". root explorer is paid app. do you know any other free app. I don't know if this ES File explorer allows me to see system files. Its only showing whats on SD card...
NVM... i managed to get another app.. that allowed me to change the file name as you suggested.. then i installed ROM manager.. Flashed CWM from there.. and rebooted into recovery.. and GUESS WHAT.. I GOT CWM.. .. thanks buddy..
No worries mate. BTW, for ES, you need to go to options and tick the two options all the way at the bottom (enable root, mount /system).
I rooted my Kindle Fire and the only thing that isn't working is the Google Play Store. I used Kindle Fire Utility to root my device. When I open up Google Play, it says:
The application Google Play Store (process.com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
I've tried installing the apk various ways but it's the same result every time.
Any helped appreciated.
Did you move it to /system/app and chmod 755 before installing?
I had this problem for awhile myself and it took me hours to find a solution. What I did was after I rooted my kindle and flashed it over to cm9 reloaded I noticed gapps was not working. So to fix this I rebooted Into twrp and reflashed the gapps zip rebooted once more and my problem was solved. Hope this helps

Flashing insecure stock rom 6.3 did the trick.
It was working. I could navigate through the market and look for apps but when I went to install Spotify, it went back to that error message. After that, I try opening the market and it shows the error message.
I'll be honest; I'm a little lost on what everyone said above. All I've been doing is downloading the apk's from the Internet and throwing them on my downloads folder. I open ES File Explorer and download the apk's. Is there anything simple I can try?

I also wanted to ask; aside from backups or maybe those 3 APK's I just moved, is it safe to delete anything, like the zip file ROM, to free up space on the internal storage?
i assume you mean the sdcard partition
yupp - it's safe - you can keep a backup on your computer if you like

Go to the play store and download the free version of Titanium backup or Rom Manager.
Titanium backup and Rom Manager both require ROOT access and they will ask you to allow it.
Forget about the "root checker" app, it's not needed and perhaps it's even faulty.
If Titanium backup or Rom Manager asks for root access and you grant it, it means that you are
fully rooted and you don't have any issues with root.
If trying the above does not show you that you do indeed have root access then download
cf-autoroot and unzip it and flash the TAR file using Odin.
CF-AutoRoot will give you full access after flashing it, but even then use Titanium backup
or Rom Manager to make sure you have root, not that "root checker" app you have.
Here is the direct download link for cf-autoroot:
http://download.chainfire.eu/316/CF-Root1/CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.zip?retrieve_file=1
This zip file contains cf-autoroot.tar and the Odin files in case you need it.
Unzip all the files into an empty folder on your desktop.
Good luck!
