So the other day my phone turned off and my phone started doing the 3 vibrates and blinking orange LED thing. It finally turned on earlier today, so I was wondering if there was a way to fix the volume up button so I don't have to worry about my phone getting turned off.
Is there a way to fix it? Or remap the button to a different button? Or even just disable the button in general? Or even just plain break the button. Anything as long as the phone doesn't think its being pressed lol
Edit: does anyone know if the app buttonmapper would fix this? I don't wanna try this and have it not work and get stuck with the flashing LED again
Thanks!

That would just replace the volume button. I need it gone completely. And alright, I'll remember that from now on. Sorry

No problem, you could try using a jewlers screwdriver set and prying up the volume up key. And its a rookie mistake just don't do it again

Haha I did that, and it wasn't working before, but I just tried to boot into recovery via the option on CM7 menu, and it booted into CWM just fine. Then I hit reboot system now, and it did that just fine. Does it boot differently when I have it boot directly into recovery? And does it boot differently when I hit reboot system now through CWM?
I know it changes the bootmode (or at least it does on the Kindle Fire), but I didn't think it made that much of a difference. Oh well. I guess I won't question it too much as long as it works.
So, when I turn the phone on using Volume Up+Power, that boots me into hboot, right?

Vol up and power boots you into some other mode, I don't remember what it's called.
I believe it's the original recovery, cause when i bricked my phone several months ago (i got impatient and decided to just flash the original stock img file (i thought it was as easy as idevices) without having the engineering hboot. Anyways I think it took me to the stock recovery mode

Hello everyone,
Was hoping someone could explain what the button combination "Volume Up + Power" actually does..??
I tried it just a few moments ago and the only thing that happened was it vibrated, nothing showed up on the screen (as if it were off), and the LED (orange) kept blinking. No buttons worked, so had to pull the battery.
Before doing that, I decided to attach the phone to my computer via USB. It asks for drivers. Which drivers though? I already have all the drivers installed for my phone...
Anyway, the main question here is..what is this mysterious mode the phone goes into when powering on the device using volume UP??
Just curious =P
What ROM are you running?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I'm running [KANG]CM 7.2.RC0.
The latest one.
I didn't think the ROMs had anything to do with the power and volume combinations when starting up the phone.
...did I forget to mention that in my original post? Basically, my phone is not on when I'm trying the button combos..

youve gotta hold volume down + power button to access fastboot. volume up + power button only works for the stock recovery
Ooooh. I thought this was in ROM. You meant while powered off. Ok. Sorry.

I was just curious about what the volume up combo did. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
@estallings15,
it was actually my fault for not being clear enough in my original post. My bad.
I was experimenting to see what each button combo with the power button did while the phone was off..

Phone vibrates 5 times and has a green LED light that stays on. I was running Dark Unicorn v2 before this. It was on Safe Mode. I rebooted into recovery, and now the phone vibrates 5 times and a green light appears. VOL DOWN + POWER does not do anything besides that green-light five-vibration thingy.
Any ideas?
From what I read before, it's not dead. It put itself on some kind of mode. I don't remember where I read about this but let me do a quick search. In the mean time, have you tried adb?

I've been reading a lot about it. There was something called safe mode. From what I've read, it seems to be a problem with my volume button (perhaps the phone believe the volume up button is being pressed).
I cannot use ADB as the computer does not detect the phone/SD.
Does your volume up button feel like it's going out? Also try a battery pull then Vol down + power

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "going out", but from the outside there doesn't seem to be anything physically wrong with it. I also never had any problems with it while I was using the phone normally.
The battery pull and VOL DOWN + POWER gives me five vibrations, and then a permanent green LED. I can't get the phone exchanged because I'm in India, and my warranty has already expired.
Well sorry but I'm out of ideas man. I'll keep searching for an answer and if I find something I'll let you know. Hopefully someone else sees this and has a solution

Well, at least I will be out of the T-Mobile contract in February. Then I can get a new phone, and use a temporary crappy one until then.

This happened to me and I kept trying to boot into clockworkmod recovery. No matter what I did, it wanted to either do as you stated above or it would immediately try to load off the sd card my pd15img. I simply turned off the phone, pulled the sd card out, and when the phone went to the hboot screen with a volume up and power, or volume down, I then put the sd card back in and selected recovery. I don't know if this is what's wrong with yours, but I definitely had that 5 vibration flashing light issue.

What does the phone do when its plugged in? I only ask because mine was doing this same thing and it turns out it was a problem with my battery. I got a new one from Ebay for about 5 bucks but I also convinced T-Mobile that it was my phone and got it replaced. I had Insurance on it of course.

I had that happen once also, I did the following and it booted up.
1) take battery out for at least 15min, (I don't know why, but it worked)
2) then do the volume-down+ power it should come right back up.
3) If I remember right, the battery that was in the unit giving me problems, was less than 20%, that very well could have been the real issue. Find a way to charge the battery then pull it.

Problem is, my phone doesn't even go into recovery...or hboot.
Any solutions yet? I've been reading this and have done everything here.
I've bought myself a new replacement battery off eBay. Charged it over night and still nothing. Powering up the phone, it vibrates. After powering up the phone and left it on for 5 min, I waited to see if it'll recognize my phone through the computer so I can check if it's the phone or the lcd, but still nothing. Any suggestion will be really grateful! And I have no insurance. Bought it used over Craigslist.
Sorry, I'm not trying to jack anyone's thread. Just didn't want to start a new one with almost the same problem.

Read that post it shows that the volume up button is stuck. The vibrations happens to me to if I power my phone down and then hold the up button and try and power on so I think that's the cause of all this

Ummm ... I'm pretty sure you need a booted OS running on the tablet for any adb command to function. As for fastboot, it needs the bootloader to be running in a specific mode before it will do anything.
@OP
If you have the tablet plugged in to a PC when you try turning it on, do you hear any noise indicating device detection by the PC? If so, does any device show up in the device manager? BTW, where were you able to purchase a mobo from?

Interesting. If it were used, it should have factory software on it somehow. If it were brand-spanking-new, though, it might be completely unprogrammed - only capable of doing APX mode, which to date nobody but Asus knows how to use.
I'm interested to hear what you find out trying to start it up attached to a PC. APX mode only would not be good news.

Last night, my back buttons stopped working. I was worried it somehow got water damage or something, so I turned my phone off and put it in rice overnight. Now I can't turn on my phone. Yeah, my power button and volume buttons just seem unresponsive. When I plug in my phone, it vibrates once, the LG splash screen comes up, then the charging screen with the battery percentage comes up. I just can't get the darn thing to boot up!
I had the same thing happen after I changed the build.prop. I fixed it by unplugging, power off by holding power and vol down, then boot into recovery, and finally restored backup. It has to be unplugged to fully power off. I wasted nearly a hour before I figured it out.
Good luck
