[Q] Android L on defy - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i saw that there is a roll out of "android L" on nexus 4. When it will be released for our defy too??? we have to attend the official relase?

Don't expect an official update. 2.3.6 is the last official update. But our legend Quarx is waiting its source code. If google release it he will compile it for our defy.
Thank you Quarx for your hard work, it's the only reason behind we enjoying the taste of Kitkat.
I have another device (Motorola Electrify). It is a dualcore 1 gb ram device.
But there is no developer for it.
Sticking at 2.3.4. So once again thank you Quarx.

Yes, with "official relase" i mean of android L in general, not in our Defy by Motorola update (for Motorola the Defy is dead some years ago )
Now Android L is only in beta version in nexus 4. Take a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/development/lpv-79-mako-port-beta-t2807446

Too soon, too soon xD
good idea with this thread
haha yeah maybe your right that its to soon, but i read that drew (yes THAT drew) is getting out his update soon and miui also said that theyd have ics soon so i figuered better to soon than to late! ;D
i really want a full build!!! hardware acceleration is what i want but can't try in the sdk port ><
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
yeah, good idea mate..
hoping that this thread will not go under in discussions who has stolen the rom from who and so on.. simply updates - no discussion from who and why and how.
actually I run the ics port b12, quite good, only the market update crash-issue is ugly .. let's hope and wait for the devs to get ICS sooner mostly stable
i was using b12 as well, but then i swiched back to gb miui because of the market, whatsapp, sms (maximaum one page) and all the fcs...
but i fell madly in love with ics and i keep looking for roms for the nexus s all the time! ;D
I think drew should just upload now... he can get out the stable version later!
I have to satisfy my lust for ics! ;D

Way to go OP. I was following other threads here and, like many, I find it hard to find an update on what's happening without searching the internet up and down. Those other threads became laughable. Why would anyone send you hate mail for hopefully clarifying things with a consolidated thread. Good to see this.

Where, oh where, is our nexus s ics update? Any release date rumour?
Anyway, good thinking. Feels good to have a topic to go to.
koush's ROM seems doing fine except for camera and wifi according to him.
i hope he shares it soon eventhough it's not fully functional.

There will not be a stable ROM until the source is released. Not the source for the Galaxy Nexus but the actual source. That will happen when the OTA is released for your NS most likely. CYANOGEN will wait for real source as will the MIUI team.
You will see some adapted and modded ROMs based on the Galaxy Nexus code. Most likely they will have modified GB kernels I believe.
I would not be surprised to see OTAs for NS right after the Galaxy Nexus hits stores in the US, definitely b4 Christmas.

Say what you want about drew but at least he had no problem releasing half busted roms. Now that people are making source roms we are begging for them to at least give us a half busted rom while we wait but no one will ugh! I don't care if just the camera and wifi don't work! That's leaps and bounds above what were used to!

I think the devs at CAF are working on JB. Also, Blefish is going to work on CM10 as soon as it reaches RC.
If I knew how to do it. i will start with JB for huawei u8800 :crying:. But i dont know how started with development for huawei u8800.
There is no driver for msm7630. Qualcomm probably won't relase drivers for JB. And ICS drivers will be extremely buggy. So This is over guys, no need for cry.

Thats funny. You think devs are born knowing how to make custom roms? Everyone learnt it. Easy, if you want something, DIY. Thats the android culture.

"(early sample)" I don't think it will pass early sample stage. Maybe end of october we had a JB.
Drivers are not the issue. Older Snapdragon devices (Nexus One, HTC HD2) have working JB ROMs thanks to the drivers released by Qualcomm, my daily driver HTC One V has fully working JB ROMs with those drivers too (Snapdragon S2, Adreno 205).
Be realistic. It's been what, a month since JB code was released? As such I wouldn't expect working ROMs for at least another month or two. And by working I mean booting and e.g. working radio. Our community isn't the biggest after all.
Of course ICS was a huge leap. JB isn't. But that doesn't mean you can quickly build a ROM using ICS-parts and expect a good experience.
I'll try it (make Jelly bean for huawei u8800). I have ubuntu. And i downloaded cm compiler. It will be hard work.
Good luck!

Our community used to be big but since march or february we lost a couple of important devs like genokolar, only a few heroes like blefish or dzo try to work on our little big device, with some work by a dev i'm pretty sure we would have a jb working rom. There's lot of users and only a few devs that's the problem. Our phone is a powerful one with one of the best single core processors and also a good gpu and i think jb would work on it like a charm.

So will Cyanogen Mod move to CM11 ?

With the new Nexus 4, will the Cyanogen Mod team have to start fresh with new Nightly's CM11 based off Android 4.2 ? How long until those first Nightly's are available to flash ? Few days after Nexus 4 release, or we talking weeks a month ?

Probably a solid month, I don't think this will motivate a CM11. They'll most likely keep 10 and wait until the next big, big push before they bump to 11. The "K" release, or whatever.
codeworkx already posted on twitter about his excitement over this device. Selling his I9300 and using the left over money to buy an N4 and then get drunk with the rest lol

Given that they don't have a 10.1 release out yet, that's doubtful.
Its still CM10 that's a definite. They go by the name of the android version (Jellybean) which starts with a "J" which is the 10th letter of the alphabet, thus CM10.

For shure it will be cm 10 most probably cm10.1, cm 11 will be kye lime pie

Either way who cares what its called. I just want it on my gs3 and n4 when i get it.
It seems like more and more CM features are being put into stock android, not sure if it is even worth it to run CM roms anymore.

CM will always be worth it in my eyes. However, Google is certainly being awesome by including so much more stock customization over time, Android 4.2 even brings lockscreen widgets and notification toggles!

With the blistering sucess of cm10....they will definately move on to a new upgraded version..and i guess we all are waiting for it... DESPERATELY !!
Does that mean if cm10 doesnt succeed we wont receiving cm11?
If the rumours are true Google is doing an android 4.3 instead of android 5.0 so wouldn't that make it cm10.2?

There's no point in speculating anything here. Really. We'll have CM of every new AOSP release, that's for sure. And it doesn't make any difference if it was called CM6343494566.64646, for instance.

4.2 is NOT the END of U8800pro!!! latest news from IVAN

according to the latest news of Ivan Autumn, “u+年后由drt团队更新。目前仅限于4.1,我准备跳过4.2,等5.0。 @pikachukaki4 @ax918” --- quoted from Ivan's Sina Weibo (a chinese mini blog like twitter), which means U8800pro's devs are gonna be updated by the drt team (a branch of Shendu team) after Chinese lunar new year, but only supporting 4.1 so far. He himself will skip 4.2, and wait for 5.0.
so as we can happily see 4.2 is NOT the END of U8800pro!!!

That's good news but I think that a stable 4.1 or 4.2.1 would be better. Now about drt team. I'm quite sure that pika has already said that. Ivan stopped working on U+ and gave his work to drt team to continue. Now about KLP is STILL just a rumor. Nothing released yet. Remember that Huawei has completely abandoned this phone (oldest rom by Huawei for U+ is ICS)

i'm using the one i attached below, i get this directly from a Chinese forum, so i'm not sure if it is the same one as Pika have posted (but i guess so). so far for like 2 weeks i have not yet come across any random reboots..... not once it's working stable to me.
Good News
We can try the new features on our phone is a good thing, If someone need stability can go 2.2 ROMs, And someone need good features can try the new version. I don’t think that everyone updating their phone is for stability. Waiting for it…………………
Oh no ... 2 weeks, it will write sh1t here in this thread. There is nothing new but still a new topic. Someone has to clean up. Please!

4.4 kitkat source code is out!!!

Google just released the source code of much awaited android 4.4 kitkat. And here it is
https://android.googlesource.com/platform/art/+/kitkat-release
I once saw an article that said Kitkat will include support for Tegra & Exynos SoC's support by default. The main purpose of the new 3.xxx kernel is to get full hardware acceleration. Without HWA, we had pretty stable ROM. If Kitkat defaultly enables our Atrix's HWA, then Atrix may finally see fully working kernel in short time! We need epinter on board to test things!
Are porters ready to port this one for our beloved Arrix???

I would, but I'm still developing my skills at being a dev (currently working on an ICS build). I want to work my way through ICS and JB before I commit to anything.
@ kernel dev team. This should be possible with our new kernel or do we need to revamp it and give it an incremential update (something higher than 3.1.10 i mean)?

Tegra SoC support comes with linux 3.10, not android kit kat. There was speculation that kit kat will run over 3.10, but from what it seems its still 3.4.
Regardless, linux 3.10 brings support for Tegra 3+, so it wont help the atrix.
Android KitKat has new SurfaceFlinger and HWComposer, so I think that we need new drivers for GeForce GPU.
Epinter will try to make a version
I have a question: my secondary phone is a defy mb525, (but now is physically broken) my question is, how he can runs 4.4 Kit Kat with almost all features working with 2.6 gingerbread kernel? This blows my mind.
