A friend of mine has a stock AT&T S4 running 4.4.2 (NC1) . Whenever we load up apex or nova launcher, the menu options (from the hardbutton) including the launcher settings menu appear right justified. Furthermore, the draw apps are populated right to left and the tabs themselves run right to left. Given that this occurs on both launchers, I'm assuming it's a phone issue. It does not occur on the stock launcher and there doesn't seem to be a setting for it. Anyone encountered this problem? I have tried several searches with no result.

I have tried searching and have not been able to find anyone that has the problem that I seem to be having. I have an error that stays on my home screen or background that says "Problem Loading Widget". I really haven't noticed having any problems with widgets loading (at least for the ones I've used) but it doesn't matter what i do I have not been able to get this removed and it looks pretty bad. If anyone can share some advice with me or can point me to a link or something that I have over looked I would really appreciate it greatly. I have attached a picture showing the error and also one showing my phones information. If anything else is needed please let me know.
I personally use LauncherProPlus...
And this happens when you do a TB restore of LPP.
I've always been able to remove the widget with a long-press though...so that's unfortunate.
Does the launcher you're using have a backup/restore option? If you've created a backup...restore it...
If not, I'd just uninstall/reinstall and put all of your widgets back in place (a pain in the ass, I know).
That's ADW (can't tell if it's the EX version or not).
I agree, you SHOULD be able to long press it and just delete the widget. However, if you can't go into ADW settings (If this is Cm7 and the built in ADW, I think its in the regular 'Settings' menu. If ADW is install on top of something else, then you can get to it from the menu key while at home.
ADW has an option to 'Reset ADW' which will clear all data and start over.
At least ADW EX does. I haven't used stock ADW in a while, so I can only assume it has it too.
I've been having problems for a while now, but the issue is that all the apps and widgets disappear from my home screen. It happens when I go to my screen with my email, browser, and calendar widgets on it. If I try to swipe to another screen, the widgets stay where they are and flash, but nothing from the next screen appears. The problem persists when I lock and unlock the tablet. If I rotate the screen, the apps and widgets go away, but my wallpaper remains. I can still press the buttons on the status bar and switch to different apps, but can't open new ones unless I open acer ring and search for them, or open them through settings. I did a bit of poking around and all I've determined the issue is a result of the Launcher crashing. If I do a force stop in settings and then return home, everything is back to normal, unless I go to the page with the widgets on it then i'm screwed again.
Any help?
Running RE-FLEXxx Rev 4 and V8 BL, but I noticed problems after updating to the ICS bootloader.
Have you tried other launchers? Nova is a good option. I use GoLauncherHD for tabs. Try a different launcher and see if it makes a difference.
Went with GoLauncher. I tried it a while ago and liked it, but reverted once I started using more roms. Seems to be working well so far, but I'd still like to know what the original issue was. Or a solution.
Welcome to the club.
Well, you're not the only one. It seems to be an issue with the ICS bootloader (Any flavor. Modified or stock.). If it gets too annoying you can remove scrollable widgets like the gmail and browser widget from your home and that will help. It's quite rare from what I understand. Not many people are having the problem besides a few of us. I think the solution will have to come from Acer... if it comes at all. What would be nice is if there was a searchable term for this. It really needs an acronym... SOF (screen of flashiness) maybe??? Anybody?
Problem persists with go launcher, although the flashiness is much more... interesting. Is FOD taken? Gotta have death in there somewhere.
I like "LOD"... Launcher of Death.
Welcome to third party launchers for tablets
Do you have any idea where the issue is? Is it in the launcher, or is it just the one that gets screwed up? And how does the boot loader effect the way it runs?
That's a very good question. How the hell can a bootloader affect a rom? I've read in several places that the trebuchet launcher had the bug...but since you're saying it happened on GoLauncher, then that throws that out the window. I'm running the JB rom and it works great. It's my DD now. Some games don't work, but who cares...lol.
Is there an easy way to make an widget that will force stop launcher? That'd be less annoying than opening settings and doing the whole process there.
Haha just realized when the launcher doesn't work, a widget is useless...
I wish that I had answers. Here is what I know about this. Launchers don't matter much. Every rom that I've tried when used with an ICS bootloader does this regardless of launcher. Every rom that uses the HC bootloader does not. Even the Flexreaper versions of ICS on the HC bootloader do not have this. It is very likely that I am just missing something more practical and am off base by pointing at the bootloader. But so far it has been the only switch that has worked for me. It does seem like 3d apps and advanced rendered widgets are part of the blame. I took a few logcats when this happened. I think I see where the errors happen, but I don't know enough to say for sure, let alone try to fix whatever it is.
My Gmail app does a similar flashing thing then crashes, but launcher still works. Play Music will also go blank/black. Anyone else having this problem or know if they're related?
(I know, 2012.... but nobody posted a solution and I found it.)
Solution was pretty simple. Go to Launcher in App settings, and wipe stored data,. You will lose some setup stuff but in least it won't crash anymore.
I changed to 305ppi working fine
then I revert back to 149 (the device's native) now my launcher would force close all the time.
Now I can't launch anything, can't even change back
what could I do.... please help!!!
I had a problem where the launcher would crash repeatedly and I'd have to hit Ok or something. The system did work though so I was able to navigate to settings, while constantly hitting OK (to accept my launcher had crashed again).
In settings I was able to remove the Set as default option from the launcher and so the next time I hit Home I was asked to select a launcher - Here I chose another one and all was OK.
I installed ADW launcher and it launched just fine, but the stock browser, holo, go, and the likes are not, ADW is the only one
Also I couldn't get Chrome to run anymore, constantly crash, just like the stock launcher....
The icon in ADW is also 75% smaller, which I have no clue to fix or reverse this
grr
I've tried leveraging Google-fu to answer this question but I haven't had any definitive answers.
I have HD Widgets and the Google Search widget on my one and only home screen. Occasionally when unlocking or pressing the home button the widgets will flicker and then come back.
This happens more often when coming back to the home screen from a stock app (messaging, phone, etc.).
I just wanted to see if any one else has experienced this and if there are any possible ideas for fixes floating around.
For clarification - I have the stock MF3 firmware, rooted. I am running Apex Launcher and Widgetlocker. I have the option to keep Apex in memory checked. I have tried lowering the OOM of HD Widgets and Apex with RomToolbox, but of course without a script the value will not stay locked in at -17 so I really don't know if that makes a difference.
EDIT: Problem doesn't appear after latest update. I have 'keep in memory' enabled and it seems to be working.
Hi, I have a Samsung S10+ running Android 10 and One UI 2.5.
I am constantly getting an issue with Nova Launcher where if i clear my recent apps the screen refreshes and then One UI takes over and it goes to that home screen rather than Nova. If i then press the Home button again it then takes me back to Nova's home screen again and does stay there until i clear my recent apps again.
Nova is definitely set to the default launcher and when this happens i go into the Nova settings and it shows no launcher is set as default, i then set it as default but the same thing keeps happening each time.
I have tried clearing the cache from both Nova and One UI but this didn't fix anything.
Is this a know issue? It has happened for a while but wasn't that annoying but since a recent android update it seems to be happening all the time now.
Does anyone know if i can fix this?
Thanks
James
Did you perhaps got sd card installed? Usually if the app installed on sd card, it will revert back to default launcher whenever you restart.
I have also had this happen to me recently, happens generally when I have recently restarted the phone for a couple of hours and then it won't happen, really odd. It started happening after the November update. And to @Zac3 I don't have a sd card installed.
Same here !!! It bugs even out sometimes, switch automatic to One UI Launcher, and i can not open sometimes my recents Apps, i had cleared so many times data and cache, but nothing seems working.
Also when i got Nova immersive in settings, it shows me the black bar at the top of the screen, that also doesnt seem to work.
