Search google for a mp3-wav converter, cant remember which one i use but will update post when i get home and check.
Remember also a mp3 song converted to wav form will be a very BIG file, better to sample just a small ( very small ) section of the track and then use this for sms notifications.
There is a program called phonealarm that you can use, you can choose any sound you like for SMS.
First post....hello everybody.

I use Audacity (free) to edit MP3 first by selecting the part of the song or clip I want to use as a alert. Then you can remove one channel (right or left) which cuts down the size quite a bit. As far as I know all PPC speakers are MONO so there is no need for a stereo ring-tone or SMS alert. You can also change the bit rate but don't go to low or your sound will be distorted. Audacity also allows you to adjust the volume of the output alert so you can have a nice loud sound and attract allot of attention when you pull your phone out. LOL.
Also Remember that a SMS alert is (I think) shorter than a ring tone alert. (ring tone alert is between 30 and 35 seconds) I wont get my 8525 till Monday but I have a E-TEN M600 and I believe the length of the SMS is the same as the 8525/Tytn.
One thing to note: you can mute a ring-tone when someone calls but I have not found a way to mute or stop a SMS alert when it comes in.
After you have the perfect RT/SMS alert as a MP3 find a free app out there that will convert it to a .wav. I use a app that came with Nero.
You can also try Ringo. This is a app that will allow you to assign a different sound to any incoming sms message.
ie. I get a traffic update via SMS everyday before I go to work and I assigned the sound of tires screeching and horns blowing impatiently as my SMS traffic alert.

Hermes 8525 Assisgned mp3 ringtone to caller, but default tone plays 1 sec before mp3

I have an AT&T 8525 (WM6 standard unmod'd rom) in the US, and have assinged a simple mp3 ringtone (have tried wav, etc, also) for my default ringtone.
I have assigned certain callers to their own mp3 ringtone.
The ringtone does play, but the default ringtone plays for about .5 to 1 second before the other mp3 ringtone plays.
If you look at the caller id on the display, it also says UNKNOWN for .5 to 1 second then switches to the caller name and phone #.
Why does the phone do this? IT makes for an odd sounding ringtone at 1st
with the default tone chiming in for a second.
Ideas?

I too have the same problem with some roms! Now on Shap's 4.0 it work's fine! For now
Same problem with my 8525 with VP3's latest but, it doesn't do it all the time.
i've got the exact same problem. kinda glad to hear it wasnt just me! lol
Just a guess
yeah mine does that too. I would assume it has to do with the time it takes for the phone to get the called ID information. Just like your house phone, caller ID takes just a little bit longer to get than the ring.
Change the ROM and you will not have these problems any more
Or use some programs to free RAM memory, like CeleTask (X-button doesn't free full memory, it only closes active programs!)
As I sad Shap's 4.0 works fine with ringtones, for now!
I did discover one program that was causing a delay, long enough
to let the other ringtone (default) play..
I had latest Resco Audio Recorder automatically recording
incoming phone calls. I turned that feature off, and it still
says unknown VERY briefly but not enough time to
let the default ringtone ring thru now.

MP3 Ringtone - Not Loud Enough

Hey guys, I was wondering why all my mp3 ringtones are awfully silent, while the wavs are alright (but they lack the mp3s' quality). Is there a way to increase the volume for the mp3 ringtones to match the wavs'? Thanks in advance.
Hi,
May I know if you test mp3 ringtone volume from Settings | Sound Notification? If so, try to test it by calling your phone. In my experience, the sound quality is very bad when test from Settings | Sound Notification, but when come to incoming call it is quite good.
On second thought, I'll just leave it as wav. It really does sound a lot better when you're being called.
Maybe you've got hd-tweak installed, there's an option under "sound" where you can switch off 100db limit and set it to "normal". This worked for me!

listen to music, vibrate mode, HOW?

Hi
I have searched but did not find a good answer or solution, how in hell can I listen to music with vibrate mode? it's very annoying that I can't do it, for example when I have many people around me for example at the train, I want to listen to music without hearing the stupid ringtone come through the speakers even when I use the handsfree I get the ringtone direct in my ear and the speakers, why? any solution? I think maybe the problem is Windows Mobile but there must be a way to fix this...
I have found a solution for this, but you will have to use a freeware app called G-Profile.
Install it
Create a profile called Music (or whatever)
In Type choose: Program Based
Choose your Music Player in "Execute"
Change the Notifications: For instance: Phone: Incoming call, choose "Vibrate"
Quick and dirty tutorial, but try G-Profile, get the hang of it and you'll be glad you did.
thanks working
i just have a silent ringtone lol
