The S5 I just bought from Germany appears to have O2 branded software as there's a folder called 'O2 tipps' in the apps folder. Will I be able to get OTA updates for it if I'm not using an O2 sim card? If not, how can I install stock software?

Look here for unbranded stock firmware www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1 like the unbranded German http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=SM-G900F&pcode=DBT#firmware and flash it with Odin.
i also debranded my S5 from german T-Mobile (DTM zu DBT) without a problem. in my opinion would be the safest way to root first with towelroot (this wont set the knox bit) backup your IMEI/efs and after this install the DBT Firmware with odin and wipe cache and reset factory defaults to change the csc.
backup IMEI/efs

or

hier is a tutorial how to debrand.
http://www.handy-faq.de/forum/galax...ng_galaxy_s5_branding_entfernen_sm_g900f.html
I didnt root and backup IMEI at first, just debranded but it will be safer if you make this if something is going wrong
Does it make any difference which country I select? I live in Malta but can't find Malta on the versions list. What's the difference between the different country versions? Will I receive OTA updates once I debrand?
Can anyone help me with this please?

So I've learned that I've got the XWKDC firmware which is apparently the oldest one.
I've been having a rebooting issue with the SGS2 phone as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099121
I thought that maybe installing the latest firmware might resolve the issue.
So my question is this:
1. Is XXKE4 the latest firmware? That's what I can understand from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
2. Is there any reason why I shouldn't upgrade?
3. My phone isn't rooted and I don't want to root it atm. Is there a way for me to backup everything in case something goes wrong so that I can just restore it to it's current state?
4. How come some people are getting the updates through Kies and some people don't? Why can't I update through the software?
Thank you for helping
having the same issue with kies would love for someone to confirm

No
But you can lok for a copy of original firmware some are posted in dev section
4. How come some people are getting the updates through Kies and some people don't?
Any Kies update is down to the phone provider and if they have passed the firmware and altered it or are not going to upgrade that firmware .

Hi, I got S4 I bought it in UK 3 (three) network.
I am trying figure out what firmvare I am on, is it stock or three modified.
And if I can flash phone to any better never, so I can get updates faster.
Phone is simlock free
GT-I9505
4.2.2
I9505XXUAMDM
I uploaded screenshot from about menu.
Phone region in Kies says BTU
What I found and I am confused is this :
http://droidviews.com/2013/the-latest-xxubmea-firmware-update-for-galaxy-s4-gt-i9505-brings-major-improvements-features/
On that webpage its "United Kingdom (H3G): H3G-I9505XXUBMEA-20130601113653.zip"
where H3G is three network however I cant update by OTA or Kies, mine says I got latest.
So would it be safe and worth it to flash to "United Kingdom (H3G): H3G-I9505XXUBMEA-20130601113653.zip" ?
or better wait for OTA update, may b when three release it??
the other thing is, I dont see H3G-I9505XXUBMEA-20130601113653 on http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9505&details=Galaxy_S_4
why it is not on there ?? official samsung firmvare web?
Please someone explain me, and advice on that (H3G): H3G-I9505XXUBMEA-20130601113653.zip
safe? better then my current? is it official? and why I not get it, if my phone on three?
Thank You
Kris
Right Kris your phone is simfree and it's currently got the latest firmware for simfree S4's in the UK
3's early S4's came simfree before they brought out their own lock branded one's, you won't get updates from 3 but from Samsung which will take longer to get.
3 have their own branded firmware which is MEA, which is currently the latest firmware out atm in this country.
If you want to get updates quickly but don't want to root or go down the custom road then you need to flash your S4 with 3's branded firmware like I've done, your S4 will still be unlocked, so no need to worry on that front.
But remember once you've flashed 3's firmware you need to wipe & reset so that it installs 3's csc so you can get updates from both 3 themselves via ota, or by using Kies.
This is a link to the latest S4's 3 firmware, if you wish to flash using Odin.
http://samsung-updates.com/details/10625/Galaxy_S_4_Snapdragon/GT-I9505/H3G/I9505XXUBMEA.html
CSC?
thx for reply
so u posted link to the same firmvare ver. as I did in first post H3G...
ok I understand
however I thought Its like samsung updates comes out first, then networks take them and modify and release, means samsung sahould be before three updates? why other way around?
so is it worth to update it? or I should wait
is it that firmvare three branded?
my other question is, what if I change CSC code, lets say to POLAND
then I get OTA update after reboot?
like they says in this article :
http://droidviews.com/2012/how-to-change-csc-in-samsung-galaxy-phones/
thx

Samsung have this tendency to update network handsets well before simfree ones, just the way they work to keep the networks happy in the UK at least.
Yes that 3 firmware is branded what you get is the 3 logo at bootup & you get 3 apps that it.
If you mix CSC ie change the BTU or H3G csc to polish csc you won't get any updates at all, as your in the UK your better off using BTU which you currently have or H3G which you get if you flash 3's firmware, and just change the language to polish, if you want Polish updates then your gonna have to flash a full Polish firmware.
As for updating or just sit and wait well that upto you
So I think best option is just stay on what I am on now, and just wait bit longer...
the one more option I thinki about is may b flash unbranded firmvare like polish or german if available
like from: http://droidviews.com/2013/the-latest-xxubmea-firmware-update-for-galaxy-s4-gt-i9505-brings-major-improvements-features/
not sure they unbranded
Thank You for explanation...

Yeah if you not to sure on flashing then it best to stay with what you have now and just wait for the MEA update from Samsung which should be due soon, the only reason I flashed 3's branded firmware is because i'm too bloody impatient.

There is new firmware on sam mobile. G900MUBU1ANE2_G900MUUB1ANE4_ALE
That's the newest unbranded. I tested by flashing this last night, it appears to be identical to the shipping firmware on my factory unlocked G900M. There is no non-Samsung bloat and language selection seems identical..
LOL I was in between flashes anyway. Wanted to see if there was another OTA to 4.4.3 as some carriers have released it, but there is not yet.
It's the first version of the unbranded firmware I've been able to find actually..all the others seem to be branded to a carrier of some form.
Thanks for that, I will download that ROM
Anyone in the UK got there OTA or Kies Lollipop update yet?
If you have flashed the German DBT & the CSC has changed will it change back to the UK CSC if flashed later with a UK Firmware?
If you have flashed how is it running?

No update for me yet, however I think that Samsung will provide the network provider with the build then the network provider will add there bloatware and so on. I'm not 100% sure on this though.
Based on the CSC changing to a German CSC when I flashed the German DBT I'd have a guess and say flashing a UK ROM via Odin it would again change the CSC. Just a guess..
I have installed the German DBT and so far so good..

Hi mark, just wondering but I have a n910f UK version and I flashed the German lollipop build through Odin yesterday, although after giving it some time to boot it upgraded all of the pre-installed apps, the phone booted but all that showed up was a black screen and an empty notification bar, and kept rebooting over and over. anyone know what the problem could be?

Hi xjw1,
Not really knowledgeable enough to help much here. You don't say what you flashed the rom over. I flashed over bobcat rom and had already updated the bootloader too. I also did a full wipe in recovery before using odin. If you ask here you should get a response from an expert. Good luck. http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/910f-official-lolipop-germany-dbt-t3029508

Yup you use the German update you get the German CSC, flash to a UK one you'll get a UK CSC. But there is almost no difference. You'd be better off sticking to this German one. Whenever an update is pushed you will get it first. If you flash a UK ROM you'll be back in the same situation you're in now waiting for an upgrade. Sometimes the UK providers are weeks/months behind the German updates.
If you want any new OTA updates as soon as Europe gets them stick with this ROM. That is unless you want the UK bloatware. I'm quite surprised the only German stuff is deletable. I bet the EE/Vodafone stuff won't be.
Edit: Actually I take that back, I just checked my CSC and my phone is showing as Polish OXA strangely enough. Well I'm pretty sure I'll still get the OTAs first. What I said should still count for German/Polish updates as they get them first so ..........(fingers crossed).
Flashed German update still retained my UK CSC
Like Mcshave said am better off with German update than EE bloatwares.

Well I've got the German Rom on now, so far all seems well. I haven't done a reset just a dirty flash.
So all you guys who have done the same to your UK N4, will you flash the BTU when it's released or stay on the German Rom?
I have an N9005 model Note 3, now I bought this second hand from eBay, and it is unlocked. Though it still shows an O2 boot up animation, so I'm guessing it was unlocked from O2?.. My question here is, I've noticed on Sammobile that there are now some Lollopop firmware updates available for my device, however, I don't see any unbranded version for the United Kingdom, only Vodafone? So if I flash this, will it have any repercussions on device operability, such as losing unlock (I am on Three UK sim card), or does it just mean that I will have vodafone branding?
EDIT: Sorry, mods please move into correct section.

1. Yeah and you have the correct firmware if you see the boot animation of O2.
2. Don't flash other different STOCK roms that aren't this ONES if your device works ok.
3. The latest firmware for your device is N9005XXUGNG1.
4. Wait for lollipop stock update via OTA or taking a look sometimes the step 2 (you will have to use ODIN then)

In theory NO. But all depends what method they/you used for unlock your device :highfive: (normally they unlock it by IMEI and you have your device unlocked forever)

Better wait for O2U updates for avoid problems (No wifi, IMEI null, no data, can't make or receive calls, bootloops, etc) but the phone is yours. You can flash what you want :highfive:
