I actually don't understand why these junior members want to do nothing but just start a new thread

As mentioned there are already guides for root ect within this section. Having numerous amount of these threads only adds clutter to the forums and such threads are marked as duplicates. For this reason i'm closing the thread.
Thanks

JB on A500/A501 [Working][New Links][No ICS Bootloader]

I had trouble finding a guide on how to get JB working on my a501 so I'm xposting this to xda. The link to the superuserfix was dead, but my install worked without it. I take no credit for this. Written by "dime" over at Tegra Owners.
I wanted to write a consolidated tutorial for people on the latest/unrooted 3.2.1 OTA and how to flash it to rooted Jelly Bean ROM. If you follow step 1, it actually installs an old version of Touch Recovery for you, so you do not need to bother with Acer Recovery Installer. All links are derived from the FAQ stickied thread.
1. First you need to obtain root. Follow this guide to install a rooted 3.2.1 image.
All data will be lost. The 10 step guide is included as a PDF in the download:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307539
Confirm you have the Superuser app installed once completed.
2. Download the following 4 zip archives, put them on your A500 external SD card, and do not extract them.
Touch Recovery: MOD EDIT: LINK REMOVED
Both latest JB ROM and GApps: MOD EDIT: LINK REMOVED.
Superuser Fix: http://www.mediafire.com/?xyznxalycnw9znw
3. Reboot your A500, and hold VOL- button until you boot into recovery.
VOL- is closest to the power button, what some would consider to be VOL+ on a phone.
Once in recovery, use VOL+/- to navigate the menu and power button to select.
4. Now that you are in recovery:
Go into the Wipe menu, and do a Data Wipe.
Go into the Install Zip from SD Card menu, and install/upgrade to the latest version of Touch Recovery.
Reboot the A500, and once again go into Recovery (hold VOL-).
Go into the Install Zip from SD Card menu, and install the JB ROM.
Go into the Wipe menu, and do a Data Wipe. (yes a 2nd data wipe)
Go into the Install Zip from SD Card menu, and install GApps.
Go into the Install Zip from SD Card menu, and install Superuser Fix.
(skip Superuser Fix if there comes a time when superuser is working by default)
Reboot the device (Don't hold VOL- this time).
5. You should now be in rooted JB.
Backup your apps with Titanium Backup or MyBackup Root.
Hope this helps.
Hi and thank you for this tutorial.

Hi there....I'm just wondering how this works!!!!!
If I understand your guide correctly then,
U run timmydeans v4 rooted HC bootloader
check s/user
Flash 1.7.3 ics recovery, the ROM, gapps and s/user fix
Then enter recovery wipe/flash etc....
So, not only did u manage to flash a recovery, u r also running JB - all without the unlocked boot loader?????
I have to give this a go....if this really does work you have made my day, lol
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk 2
EDIT: k I've just read 60 odd pages from the JB ROM thread - and answered my own question...seems this tegra-owners ROM runs with or without the patched boot loader....interesting!
EDIT: ok i tried this anyway even tho i was running the patched bootloader....may explain my issues!!
had troubles right from the get go - The tdv4 EUU wouldnt recognise my tab in apx mode, after mucking about I got the "Pass"
rebooted into cwm - nup - stock recovery??? weird....
found a boot.p file so renamed that and installed acer recover installer to flash cwm 1.7
from there flashed cwm 1.7.3 and the rest of the guide!!!!
could not install super user fix zip kept telling me there was an error and had aborted installation...s/user seems to be working ok
so after 7 hours I have thors JB with the 3,01 BL
perhaps it could be made clearer that this guide is for tabs runnin gingerbread or HC, altho it will work on the v8 BL the question would be why you would want to....however for those who havent updated its not as complicated as trying to get ones head around patched bootloaders, nvFlashing etc.
JUST A WARNING not all ICS/JB roms can be flashed like this MOST WILL REQUIRE the patched bootloader....
ALWAYS BACKUP and ALWAYS CHECK THE DEV's OP for whatever rom u intend to fllash, and if u dont understand something
please ask stating what rom/BL config you're on and what you're trying to flash to!!! Its alot easier than trying to talk/msg your way out of a brick

I dont use a sim card. but on my a501 it asked me to please insert sim during first boot and always has a signal bar in the bottom right the indicates no reception. So most likely yes. Hope that helps.

For me cellular data has worked flawlessly. It has been definitely the best rom for my a501!

Thread is currently closed and links removed for the following reason;
Thor202ro rom kernel violates GPL. Otherwise know as not releasing kernel source. Most people here in the forums are well aware of the fact that non-GPL compliant kernels are not allowed to have links directly posted to them. This in the XDA rules.
The reason GPL is in place, is so that things like "carrier IQ' don't happen again. This is why kernel source should be open-source. Without it, the kernel could be transmitting personal data, and nobody would know it.
Additionally, the website in question, is a revenue generating website, and thus this also violates XDA rules by having links posted to revenue generating websites (ad-fly) to download Thors software. So this is a touchy spot.
Most people know where the site is anyhow.
And no, I am not going to re-hash the history.

Is this for C5302 or C5303?
Also, do you have to "wipe data" or can you keep your data so when you start the phone after completing the installation, all your apps still remain?

It's for C5303.
I think you can keep your data partition but haven't tried though. Do a backup first.

You have to do everything from the beginning as described in the first post. Root, install recovery and flash rom.
Thank you for the kernel itself. My C5303 (Central Europe) now works flawlessly with ROOT. DooMLoRD kernel had problems with RAM.
I bit the bullet and done this upgrade (from android v4.12 to now android v4.3) and it went well
So now i have android 4.3 on my xperia sp and i also have my data intact too as i chose not to 'wipe data' before flashing, however i did clear dalvik cache and wipe cache.
Most important though, is that i can now use three (3 uk) 4g (LTE), which i couldnt use without upgrading to android v4.3
For the curious this is what I used (and i followed the instruction here -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51654818&postcount=1) -
- pre-rooted.C5303_12.1.A.1.201_Generic GR_1272-4887.zip - (the rom in this thread using the link provided by the OP in the 1st post in this thread)
- UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.93.zip - (using the link provided by the OP in the 1st post in this thread)
- recoverys_signed_040414_162006.zip --- (my new recovery - for more see here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50359355&postcount=1)
Now that i am happy with the upgrade, my question to those who have upgraded to android v4.3 is this -
(1). for security i used to use LBE Security Guard in v4.12 and it worked okay, however the version i have does not seem to be working properly on android v4.3, especially the blocking of apps from using the internet (4g/LTE) ...any known solutions with regards to this app?
(2). Likewise for security i used to use Xprivacy on android 4.12 but however it too does not seem to be working properly all the time now and i suspect that its because i still have installed the version i had before upgrading to v4.3, any suggestions as to the version of Xprivacy that anyone on v4.3 are now using please?
correction
just realised no wifi after upgrade
wifi does turn on but no router shows up and i am surrounded with routers and even if i manually add a router or access point, it does not do anything when i click on the newly created access point.
Anyone having this issue and any suggestion pls?

Actually the problem has been traced back to the ROM, something to do with symlink, see here for fix after upgrade -

[GUIDE] how to root, flash recovery, flash rom-ALL IN ONE!! For xolo q700i

Hey guys....... So many newbies don't know the procedures to root, flash recovery, flash custom roms....
Well this guide will help them to get all the information in one place....
So let's get started:
ROOT:
download a app called framaroot which is a one click root process...
The app will be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/framaroot/root-framaroot-one-click-apk-to-root-t2130276
The procedure and the app will be provided
Reboot your device..
FLASHING A CUSTOM RECOVERY :
Step 1 :
once you have got root access download mobile uncle tools
Here is the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2697236

Pls download the specified recovery you want to flash . it should be compatible with your device... (you might want to download es file Explorer for managing your files easily)
Step 3:
Now open mobile uncle tools and go to recovery update and then choose it recovery. img
Step 4:
it will tell you to reboot your phone and then you are done with flashing the recovery... U can also flash it using so flash tools using the computer..
Step 5:
Now after rebooting your phone just power it off and press and hold volume up and power button(different for different devices for my xolo q700i this Is the procedure)
Step 6:
U will now boot into recovery mode.... And it specific recovery will be displayed..... Just reboot ur phone using recovery mode (I hope u can do that atleast)
HOW TO FLASH CUSTOM ROMS:

(ROOT) (CUSTOM RECOVERY) FOR MOTO G 1st GEN

Hello, guys this is my first post but i am quite sure that my methods work.If there any problems then u can surely ask in the section below. This thread will be a GUIDE TO ROOT AND INSTALL CUSTOM RECOVERY FOR MOTO G 1st Gen users.
Some prerequisites are:
1. Motorola drives (https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/88481)
2.Fastboot and recovery files (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9jf2va51ffg0pzq/AAAxDT-ETf7AESIcHGnfEgv7a?dl=0)
[ Let these files be downloaded and kept in Cdrive of ur pc and and place them on the desktop.. Please name this folder MOTO FILES]
3. SuperSu files https://download.chainfire.eu/696/supersu/ and[/url] paste it in ur phones internal memory and please do this after unlocking the bootloader cause bootloader unlocking will delete everything so its better to do it after unlocking bootloader
Download these files and ur done... Now lets continue to the fun part
This process involves three very simple steps :
1. Unlocking the Bootloader:-
This process is infact very easy to do. There are several guides on the internet regarding this process but the one that i suggest is by High On Android/ Max Lee . Follow his method and u can very easily unlock ur bootlader. Copy this url and see it for urself fellow guys...http://highonandroid.com/android-smartphones/how-to-unlock-bootloader-on-motorola-android-smartphone
2. Erasing ur previous recovery and installing a new one and rooting ur phone all in one process
Some users have been reporting that even after installing custom recovery , whenever they go into recovery they enter into stock recovery. The actual problem is that the stock rom of the Moto G rewrites over the new custom recovery installed.
So we have to install the recovery actually twice but it only takes a few minutes
i) Firstly be sure to have lots of juice in your phone
ii) Boot ur phone into the bootloader by power offing ur device and then pressing the volume down and power button together for 10 seconds and then leaving both of them together.
iii) Now connect ur device to ur pc/laptop
iv) Now open a cmd and enter the following commands(press enter after every command)
- cd Desktop
-cd MOTO FILES
-fastboot flash recovery Recovery2.img
-fastboot reboot-bootloader
[MAKE SURE NOT TO REBOOT UR DEVICE ]
v) Now ur phone has custom recovery installed in it and u shud now enter into recovery mode by choosing the option from the bootloader, by pressing volume down and then volume up while in bootloader mode.
vi) This will open the Philz recovery that i have provided with. I prefer the philz recovery over the cwm one. Now go on and install the SuperSu update zip file. And BOOM ur Device is now rooted !!!!.
vii) Now reboot ur phone and u must install
-ROOT CHECKER (to check root)
- and most importantly ROOT EXPLORER
viii) After following step (vii), now if u try to go into recovery, u will be booted to stock recovery. So to prevent that use the ROOT EXPLORER app and go to the root \system\etc and delete the file named install-recovery.sh .
ix) After deleting the file u will once again have to follow step (iv) and install custom recovery this will ensure u having custom recovery even after rebooting ur device and u will have ROOT access as well
On which android version , were you on before rooting . 5.01 or 5.1 .
This method works for both 5.1 and 5.01

Plz help me on this....

Sorry! Root access is not properly installed on this device
Works but could be simplified
Thanks for this useful post. I've just followed the instructions to root my XT1032 Stock Lollipop 5.1, and they work. However, I have a few comments:
[1] I had already installed Motorola Device Manager on my (Windows 7) PC, plus 'Minimal ADB and Fastboot'. This was sufficient – I didn't need to download the files in your prerequisite 2.
[2] You can use any compatible recovery image. I prefer TWRP, so downloaded openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-xt1032.img.
[3] The SuperSu zip file you've linked to is out of date. The current one is version 2.46 (for Lollipop).
[4] After flashing SuperSu it's advisable to wipe the cache and Dalvik cache.
[5] Root Checker showed that BusyBox wasn't installed, so I downloaded Stephen Erickson's BusyBox installer from the Play Store. This is an essential step, as most programs requiring root won't work without BusyBox. Perhaps it could be added to the OP?
[6] You don't need to use Root Explorer – any root-compatible file manager will do. I prefer Total Commander.
[7] Having deleted (or in my case renamed) install-recovery.sh and then rebooted, I didn't need to go back to step iv and reinstall the custom recovery; in my case TWRP was still there. I think your step ix is unnecessary; at least it's worth checking which recovery you have.
I hope these points are useful and not too nit-picking!

Reinstallation of custom recovery is not must its just for safety precautions and I have finally updated the SuperSu link. As far as Busybox u will have to install it customly only.

[HOW-TO][Root+TWRP Recovery][LB]Stock Marshmallow 6.0.1 (23.5.A.0.575/.291)

Hello everyone,
Update 27.08.2016: It also works for version 23.5.A.1.291 (OS update that includes STAMINA). The procedure is identical, you just have to use the latest firmware available and create a pre-rooted .zip to update your tablet device.
I am pretty sure that I couldn't find a how-to guide anywhere that explains how rooting our precious Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact on Android 6.0.1 with locked bootloader works. This post simply shows the process of how I got root on my device (SGP611) and I am going to write the steps only in moderate detail so that hopefully everyone can follow without hassle. There are some steps that I'm not going to explain too much in detail but instead I highly recommend you to look around a bit on XDA to find theses already explained steps (I just want to get to the point on how to get root so that's why it may not be super noob friendly).
Edit: A little bit more info and additional steps that might help you further can be read in post #5.

Also, I am not a developer so I am very sorry if I can't give you an answer to questions relating to problems with the tools we are going to use in this tutorial. It's better to ask the developers directly( I will link you to the needed threads).
Steps:
1. Downgrade device if necessary
2. Root using KingRoot exploit
3. Install XZDualRecovery custom recovery
4.1 Get the latest Marshmallow firmware and create FTF file
4.2 Create the pre-rooted .zip file
5. Flashing the pre-rooted .zip file correctly
Extra: Already created pre-rooted .zip file download for the lazy ones (At the very bottom)
1. First thing you need to know is that if you're device is currently bootloader locked and on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 (23.5.A.0.575), as of the time I am writing this, you will not be able to achieve root directly through some kind of rooting tool. What you need to do now is to downgrade your device to an older version of Android, e.g. Android 5.0.2 or KitKat are good enough.
To do this you need to find the older firmware:
-Try this link to look for it: http://xperiafirmware.com/ (If you can't find Android 5.0.2 for example, use Google or look around XDA)
-Downgrading the device will wipe data/factory reset, so BACK UP YOUR STUFF before downgrading.
-Use flashtool to flash the firmware and downgrade: http://www.flashtool.net/index.php (I will expect you to know how to use flsahtool to flash ftf. files, there are many tutorials on how to do this)
2. Why you have to downgrade is because older firmwares have an exploit that can be used to root the device even when the bootloader is locked. So yes, something like a one-click root method is possible now.
-You may use this tool called KingRoot to root your tablet: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/one-click-root-tool-android-2-x-5-0-t3107461
Read the info carefully before doing anything.
3. Now, you should have managed to root your device with Android version other than 6.0.1. That is when another great tool comes in which is called XZDualrecovery. XZDualRecovery is "a" custom recovery that you'll need to be able to proceed from here.
-Install XZDualRecovery using the root method. That's the only way to get it onto the device.
-Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606 (Read the instruction there carefully)
4. Great! Now you should have root and custom recovery. If not, you did something wrong.
This is when you can create something called a "pre-rooted" firmware which is basically all you need to get root on Marshmallow 6.0.1.
4.1
-Use the tool called Xperifirm to download the Android 6.0.1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...xperifirm-xperia-firmware-downloader-t2834142
-Launch Xperifirm and on the left hand side browse to "Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact -> the model number of your device (look under settings on your device to find out model number)"
-On the right side top you'll see "Check all", click it to let it check for latest firmware number
-Android 6.0.1 would be 23.5.A.0.575 23.5.A.1.291 (latest firmware). You can choose any Market or Operator you want (Tip: Use "Customized XXX" and avoid carriers)
-After downloading you'll need flashtool again to convert those downloaded files to .ftf format (Again, there are instrutions on the internet that you can look for)
4.2
-Make sure you have the .ftf file
-Get two .zip files
--1) RecRoot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/wip-sony-android-6-0-mm-t3337357
--2) A dummy flashable file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/...oid-6-0-mm-t3337357/post66569699#post66569699
-Get PRFCreator: http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/tool-prfcreator-easily-create-pre-t2859904
-Open PRFCreator and put the .ftf file to FTF, the RecRoot .zip file to RECOVERY, and the dummy_flashable.zip to SUPERSU. Don't do any other way!
-Tick Kernel, FOTAKernel, Modem, LTALable and Sign Zip
-Click "Create" to create the pre-rooted Marshmallow firmware
5. You should have created the pre-rooted Android 6.0.1 firmware now.
-Put the pre-rooted .zip file and the RecRoot .zip file onto your device's SD card/storage (anywhere where you can find them later)
-Reboot your tablet into TWRP recovery. (XZDualRecovery even provides you an app to choose and reboot to recovery) Don't reboot into any other recovery!
-Now, in TWRP recovery, erase dalvik cache, cache and system just to be clean.
-FIRSTLY, flash the pre-rooted.zip that you have put on your device. After flashing successfully, DON'T REBOOT YET!
-SECONDLY, flash the RecRoot.zip file
-Now you can reboot and if you did everything correctly, your Z3 Tablet Compact should boot up with Chainfire's SuperSU root and TWRP recovery (to access TWRP recovery, you have to reboot the device and while a green LED light appears for a moment, press and hold the volume down button. Then you will enter TWRP recovery. As for now, you cannot access the recovery any other way like using a reboot app, it will not work!).
CONGRATULATIONS! You have a rooted Z3 tablet with locked bootloader and you haven't lost Sony features.:good:
Thank you for reading this tutorial. And don't forget to thank all these devs that provided us the needed tools.
Extra: I will also put a link here where you can download my created pre-rooted Marshmallow firmware. It's build 23.5.A.0.575 Customized Germany and for SGP611 only!

I would love too, but my upload is very very slow and would take week to upload. Follow the instructions it's very easy, it was the first time I've ever touched and FTF or made a prerooted rom. Well not really made, just clicked a few buttons in flashtool and waited.
SGP621 additions
Hey man,
thanks for this concise guide to unroot our beloved tablet! I tried a few times before, but always gave up under the flood of outdated info available. With your guide, I successfully rooted my SGP621 (= Sony Z3 Tablet Compact with LTE).
Since you refer to "available info on the net" quite often, I had a few moments where I was unsure what to do exactly. Maybe the following hints can help others like me who are new to the world of Sony android devices.
Step 1:
You could probably also downgrade to 5.1, but to be safe, I chose 5.0.2. The needed ftf files for SGP621 as well as the SGP611 and SGP612 are avilable here.
I used the most current version of the flashtool, which is 0.9.22.3 as of this posting. I followed this (German) guide for installing and using the flashtool. To install the needed drivers, you'll have to navigate to wherever you installed the Flashtool to, there to the subfolder drivers, and execute the driver installer you find there. In the driver selection dialog install the first two, and of course the Z3TC driver you find somewhere in the list. Got two errors during the driver installs, ignored them, all went well.
Step 2:
Kingroot is a one-click-rooting solution you install directly on the phone, no pc connection necessary. After the tool is installed, you have to start it, swipe up a couple of times, and then tap on "Purify". The description in the xda thread made me think "Purify" is just an ad for an additional app, but it does start the rooting process.
Step 3:
After downloading and extracting XZDualRecovery, start the install.bat (under Windows, obviously). Connect your tablet, then choose menu item 1 (Install with SuperSU).
Step 4.1:
Many guides describe a decrypt / unpack step, you don't need this. The files are already unpacked after the download through XperiFirm. I did, however, delete the file "fwinfo.xml" from the downloaded files. No idea if that's needed, but it didn't hurt either.
To convert the downloaded files into an ftf file in the flashtool, select "Tools > Bundles > Create".
As "Source Folder" select the folder that XperiFirm created in the download path you specified. You'll then see a bunch of files in the "folder list" - select everything but the ".ta"-files (there were 5 ta-files in my case).
Doubleclick the empty "Device:" line, select the correct device.
I guess you can enter whatever in Branding and Version, I entered "German" and "23.5.A.1.291".
Step 4.2:
The "RecRoot"-File mentioned is indeed called "RecRoot_combined.zip". If you download that file, you're good to go. The PRFCreator tool needs to have Java installed for the last step (signing the prerooted rom). The file with the prerooted rom is saved in the PRFCreator dir itself.
Hoping this'll help someone!
@pull.me.under I am glad that I could help. Also, I'll thank you for your time extending my guide a bit with more detailed steps. That'll help users who are new to this stuff for sure. ?

For restoring your tablet to stock, you only need flashtool with Xperifirm. It's like the first step where you have to download the stock firmware from Xperifirm and flash it with flashtool. Then you only have stock and clean operating system on your device. Unless, I'm not sure what you mean with stock settings?

Thanks for the guide. Using this guide, how can i install xposed on prerooted MM.
Shud i flash it after flashing recroot. Or shud i enter the system and then do it.
Following these steps will i lose recovery once i reboot to the system?
worked for me but god i kept soft bricking it. twrp kept wanting to reboot after wiping. now to wait and see if it will charge above 49%
Thank you for your efforts and detailed instructions. I did it smoothly on my 612. In my case the RecRoot was named as RecRootV4_combined.
Oddly, MobileUncle does not restart device to TWRP recovery, although it is doable the hard way

steps in details?
just did it with 23.5.A.1.291_R2D. seems ok
thanks!
Thanks for the Guide.
Post #5 is almost as important. It goes through a lot of details and problems I encountered (like the no neede to decrypt or the need to install Java to sign it).
For those who like the shortest path, here's a pre-rooted flashable zip:
Customized IBE Version 23.5.A.0.575 R8D for the SGP621
Decrypt key is:
!8G97O9eDtnF-_PntdsGh8uoRo7KQFpS7_D2c_FNaI-I
(edit) Lost root and I can't figure out why.
One moment I had 5.0.2 rooted with XZDualRecovery the next moment after step 5, I had 6.0.1 but root was lost.
XZDualRecovery is still there. I tried booting into TWRP and re-flashing RecRootV4_combined.zip to no avail. I had already done it according to the instructions right after the pre rooted ROM.
Anyone has an idea of what I could have missed?

Updated on OP. But beware that something isn't probably right. I lost root as soon as I flashed MM.
Thanks for this wonderful guide:good:. I was able to install MM .291 to my SGP612 without any issues. I am attaching a picture of the PRF creator instruction followed if it might help others.
The install process after creating the prf zip file was quick. Also I noticed that I still have small apps after upgrading
