Acer W700 Bios Password - Windows 8 General

Hi friends
I bought a used Acer Iconia W700 i5 128gb ssd 4gb Win 8 tablet.
After back to home i realized that a bios password set, called the previous owner about that but he said he did not set anything...
I went to Acer service but they did not looked at my tablet because its from out of my country! Nice policy!
Now i am with myself...
Dear friends, do you have any idea how to solve bios password problem? I installed last bios but password still remains...

If there isn't a means to reset the CMOS, the normal method is to remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes. That means you have to disassemble the system. From video below, it should be straightforward.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WkDrJq5cc8
Look for a button battery. If it's soldered in, you'll have to unsolder it. If you have no experience in opening up electronics, best find a tech. BIOS password is hard to reset for a reason.

[Q] No HDD found, neither in BIOS nor in Win 7 Setup

Hi,
I am having huge problems with my HTC Shift X9500. The harddisk is not recognized, it is neither shown in BIOS nor in the Windows 7 Setup.
I already tested a new hdd and a new zif-cable.
Now at least the harddisk light is on when it boots.
Is there anything I can do?
Or do I have to install any drivers or whatever?
Thanks!
one thing that may have occured: is the cable connected right´way? HD turned 180 degrees?
Drivers of course... how-tos allaround here...

I tried every possible way to connect the harddisk. I mean drivers or any bios tricks to make sure that the harddisk is recognized.
Did you try to restore your system to a previous state?
I lately came around to see my marvell card was "lost"
and no driver update helped/ was possible.
Went back four weeks, new original driver update - et voilá!
Maybe something similar.
How can I do that? When system boots it says that I have to insert a proper boot media.
In Bios there is no harddisk shown in menu "Boot" and windows-setup also does not show a boot media.
Strange is that even Bios does not show the hd..
Any new ideas?
not really...
of course you could boot from USB
Question is if it doesn't show HDD just because Bootsectors are damaged,
or because of some physical damage in connection between HDD and motherboard.
You could take a usb-zif adaptor, connect it to a pc and take a look what happens here.
I just ordered an usb adapter so that I can test it. Thanks for all your answers.

I am also having the same problem. Sometimes my HD is recognized sometimes not. For a while, my Shift just showed the "not recognized" error. I assumed the HD had died. After a week or so (to my surprise), booted up (HD found) again.
Now, about 3 weeks after first "not recognized", still having problems. Cold boot's take longer and much more problematic, then restarts. Can the problem be temperature related?
My Shift runs original Vista Business (Swedish). Sorry no solution, just share your problem.

Warmed my Shift (blow dryer) before cold boot. Shift booted on first try.
Will try the blow dryer again, the next time Shift shows the, "no HD/bootable device" error.
Shift with SSD... Have you tried it?

Any long time users of an SSD in a Shift... Does a SSD improve the Shift? Faster boot times? Less heat? Any problems?
Thanks in advance for replies.
strange phenomenom... hasn't there been a song by kate bush? -
i just have updated my shift to 2GB, now booting and running much faster
may it be possible system updates have caused lame startup/system performance?
try system restore to a point six months back or updating hardware.
Don't remember the Kate Bush.
I have uninstalled some programs... no change. Have not tried system restores. (After many failed attempts, finally succeeded with all patches/updates for Net. Framework 4. Don't look forward to that again).
Hope that the problem with my Shift is a software (not hardware) issue. Will first try, a system restore as you suggest. And, if necessary, a total reinstall (original factory Vista).
Read somewhere that more ram means lower battery times. Is this true for your shift? Does the 2GB make a better Shift?

"Booting and running much faster" sounds good. Will consider these hardward updates if I can get my "no bootable device"/HD problem solved. Thanks for the system restore suggestion. Is it correct, that (besides 2GB ram) your Shift is also updated with a SSD? If yes, which? How long ago?
SSD makes it run a bit faster, gives you more storage and reduces noice. Real boot improvement you get by increasing RAM-
there are 2GB 214Pin storages available making your shift real smart.
Heat Vent on the back shows wear. Same for yours?
I'm wondering if the age of my Shift plays in. I am its original owner. Think I purchased it back in 2008. On the back of the Shift is a air vent with a metal cover with holes. Here my Shift shows definite wear & tear The metal is deformed inward & with an extra large gap. Is this usual wear?
In addition, today my Shift showed a new error "BOOTMGR is missing". Still haven't tried a six month previous (or so) windows restore. Perhaps I should. (Or a clean installation of Windows).
First try restore.
With ssd you have one moving part less, so less heat, so less ventilation running, so less battery drain...
p.s.: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2182238
Which SSD/usb-zif adapter (?) works best with HTC Shift?
"First try restore".
Tried to repair Vista Startup/bootsector files by booting from usb with Windows Vista Dvd. The Startup Repair does not recognize my Vista Installation. Nothing under "Operating Systems" (see attached image).
My Shift does not start, and can not be restored. I think my hard drive is totally dead.
Usb-Zif suggestions may be a solution for me too. Will upgrade with SSD & 2GB (not HD).
Why then not simultaneously upgrade to Win7?
Of course me myself had to pay more for Win and SSD
as paid for Shift, 2GBRam then was pure luxury...
Which works best on Shift Windows 7 or Windows 8?
"Why then not simultaneously upgrade to Win7?"
Because Windows 8 came after 7, felt Windows 8 better that Windows 7.

Possibly bricked satv pro and broken sata ribbon

So, long history "short", I was a happy owner of a 2015 pro satv with a 500GB samsung evo ssd inside of it, not rooted, no full android, just koodi made me a happy camper altho the ssd read/write speeds in the satv did always left an undesired flavor to me.
Then last december while I was doing a professional course, my laptop ssd decided to die in the middle of the exams, so, as I was not using the satv that much and I did not have anything stored in it that I didnt want to lose (I have all my media on a nas), I just opened it up and took the ssd, formatted it in my desktop computer and put it on my laptop because I just needed it for the course as the laptop had no other hdd.
I did not think I would have a problem by doing so because I had the backups of the firstpart.bin and lastpart.bin from back when I decided to swap the original sshdd for the ssd.
A few days ago I end up the course and decide to get my satv back up and running again, but this time I will not throw my money by putting a ssd into it again, so I buy a sshdd and follow the steps to restore my backups into it (hex editing and so on)... no video. Ok, I will leave it powered 20 minutes then restart, but again no video. Try fastboot by using the OTG cable to the PC. Can not enter fastboot no matter how many times I try (it actually power offs REAL QUICK) and all I get in the computer is "apx device" (google search is all I needed to start to get frightened by this point).
So I take the hdd out again and see If I did everything correctly (I used windows dd), everything looks good in the hex part, but this time I will try writing it from linux. I use ubuntu this time to write it and the tool from the forum member to generate lastpart.bin (I even compare afterwards to my lastpart.bin and both are identical, so it was not the problem). but.... no video again and no fastboot... only apx.
To this point, and being sure my lastpart.bin its not the problem, I have tried with my firstpart.bin (3.29GB), the one from the torrent in this site (3,29GB), the other one (7,39GB), and even with all of them with the SATV_rescue files that hallydamaster uploaded here applied over them.
Same result with everyone, no video, can not enter fastboot, no adb device, no device in device manager except for apx...
The final culprit of all of this load of shet was that I broke the sata cord/flex by trying to force it deeper into the plug. I learnt that mistake of not letting too many work hours make a problem become a new one, but I guess I became too frustrated with it and finally made it worse. So now I think the sata flex was in bad condition and the initial problem for the console to not show image and not boot into fastboot. I might buy a compatible flex sata cable to try and rescue it from the deads, anyone had any experience with these? I have seem people with 16GB version have successfully soldered these compatible sata flex cables to their motherboards (no need to solder here as to I have the pro version) so I guess its totally compatible) so there should be no trouble I think.
any help would be appreciated
I'm in the same boat
Excuse me guys ...did you find to buy the sata cable?
Thanks in advance

Okay, so the tablets don't have a cmos battery because of the form factor, instead their uefi firmware stores data on the chip itself. We need to trick the bios to make it appease corrupted so that the backup bios image gets restored. But we will need a photo of the bios chip to see what pins will be needed to short.
If your device has an hdmi port, then you can try connecting to a display, but i am not sure it will work.
Shorting the bios pins may not damage it if done correctly, but you take the risk.
And please, don't buy those chinese tablets, they will break down suddenly.
The chip with the green dot on it is the bios chip in my tablet. The alphanumerical code on it is what you'll need.

I think the screen dead or coprocessor
Because when I put the charge the blue led is on.
But also when I connect the keyboard the power on led remain off.

Your device is fine, just the bios needs to be reset or reflashed. Can you try entering DnX mode? But you'll need your firmware files (stock rom).
What's dnx mode
Explain me
I do short pin 2 with charge in no luck!
It has a reset button, but no luck,!
Where's the ground in my tablet
Different motherboard from the link you give

Dnx mode is like qualcomm's download mode, but on intel baytrail devices. On my tablet, you enter using pressing vol up + vol down + power.
This method will work IF you have stock firmware and ONLY IF the stock firmware has a bios image. If you don't have stock firmware or it doesn't contain bios image then don't bother.
What confusion
But why they do a reset button?
I press it but nothing happen

That reset button resets OS, not the bios.
Keep that tablet, maybe you will solve the problem later. Give it to a PC repair store, tgey must have equipment to flash a damn bios chip.
About the call recording, tasker might help although i don't know how to manage it, so don't ask.

If you know how to enter the bios, then press F9 and enter to return to default settings.
Only both USB seem work and Bluetooth
Want pair
But keyboard lights off
Mean keyboard don't do anything because
Is off.
I try USB keyboard but off.
I hear no sounds .
Another hints?
Seem likely the irulu is possessed by an obscure presence
Only HDMI can do the clue.
But BIOS technically if I remove an hardware's don't seem to emits sounds.
I admitting no buy irulu tablet in future.
I want a tablet is easy to recovered even in BIOS corrupted situations.
Can you give me the name of a laptop fit this
Specs,strongly and easy .

Technically, it's not the tablet's fault, you changed some incompatible settings.
Yea, they compiled a ****ty bios, but chuwi won't be better. They're all the same, manufactured in a same place but with different branding.
I'd say, look for refurbished laptops or netbooks, like from asus, dell, hp, you get it. They will last longer than these chinese tablets. If you find one in a mint condition.
HDMI mini to HDMI cable when tomorrow I try
Tell me I remembered
I select under USB tab legacy on
What's and what do that
I also under screen have selected HDMI.
If I sure this, because, the tablet is on,screen is off
Usb charge only,keyboard is off
China tablet same china microsd card.
But THL is a China phone and work great and I have from 7 years paying $178,
But I don't love to loose, I wants revenge,i sell PC and repairs from 8 years, no one in my life I have destroyed.

Xtrons TR100 Nightmare......

Xtrons TR100 UltraOcta T8 stuck in boot loop from trying to install Magisk via their manager and can't figure out how to get this thing into recovery mode. I've talked with a rep from Xtorns about this issue and he informed me that I'd have to do a "Key Wire to Ground" in order to get into recovery. He also stated that if I had my SWC hooked up I could just press any button along with the reset but yet that doesn't work either. I've gotten as far as seeing a screen that says "Start Upgrade" but then it goes right back into boot loop. I've never felt so defeated in my life..... I've reached out to some that have the same unit but haven't gotten any reply.

Holly hell! I've been looking for that video, I knew I had seen one somewhere. TY!! I'm going to go try now. I've been in contact multiple times with them via email and pm's but they are so limited on they way they give instructions. They are like hold them for 3 secs and it should go into recovery. So if the "Key 1" wire is the ground then it really shouldn't matter which button I press. But there's still a sequence that needs to be done. I think from what I seen in the video he holds the "Key 1" wire to the chassis. clicks the "Reset Button" turns on ACC then hits the "Reset Button" again all while holding the "Key 1" wire grounded. I'll watch one more time. Also I got the files from Xtrons I've upgraded my system in the past just putting the 4 files on a USB stick. But doing it this way do I need to leave as .Zip? Does it need to be renamed? Thanks for the help! I'll let you know if this works......... :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
Yea this thing simply will not load into recovery. I get the Start Update with what looks like a bar in the middle of the screen and then back to boot loop. Do I need to create a boot SD to bypass?

I think you need try the entire sequence without SD card os USB connected to the unit.
After you get into recovery, need only use the "firmware file" update.zip placed in SD card or USB root.
There is another video with different sequence; myabe this work for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPQgV_55Rkk

I've been wondering if there was a way to hook up this edge note via usb to this thing to see if I can maybe see what's going on some how?? I've been on google for hours looking for something but everything seems like you need to hook it up to a pc. Guess I'll just run a long ass USB cable out the window and leave the care running. LOL
Welp...... I've been on the phone with Amazon all morning. The lady that was helping me wanted to see what she could do about just giving me a refund and then me buying another one, then ship this one when it comes. So she puts me on hold for a while and comes back and said that the guy wouldn't let her give me a full refund in credit. They could only do $219!!! Are you kidding me?!?!?!?!? So i spoke with a supervisor and got it taken care of so now i'm sitting here thinking. Do I really want to go back to a unit that I don't know how to get into recovery if something happens again. So do i pay the extra 14 bucks for the XTRONS 7 Inch Android 8.0 Octa Core 4G RAM 32G ROM and lose the screen size but it be flush. I'm going down in screen size but gaining Rockchip octacore PX5 A 53 architecture 64 bit cpu and 4 gb DDR3 kingston memory.
Personally, I'd go for the smaller screen size with more RAM (twice as much), a faster processor and physical buttons (personally, I don't think I'd ever get a unit without a rotary volume control!). Like you said, you don't want to get stuck in this same situation again later where you can't get into recovery if you need to... Yes, a larger screen is nice, but it's not worth it in this case (IMO).
But, with that being said, the difference between 7" and 10.1" is significant. Not sure how used to 10.1" you are or if the larger screen is very important to you - but you'd be surprised how much of a difference there is between a 7" and 10.1" screen!
Just my two cents.

500GB HDD Died - Any way to recover without RMA?

I purchased my SHIELD 500GB waay back when it came out. Unfortunately, just recently I went to use it, no picture. Reboot, no image, and just a buzzing sound from the case almost like a beep... I open the case, listen to the hard drive, and it buzzes like its trying to spin up but it won't spin up.
Tried taking it out and connecting it to my PC to recover the Widevine keys so I can use a public image on a new SSD, no luck, PC won't recognize the drive.
Does anyone know if its possible to get a working SHIELD back (starting from a new blank SSD, without the original Widevine key)? I doubt they'll RMA the unit since it is so old, and I don't have any receipt for it anymore.
I have the same exact model and the same problem. Just recently bricked out of nowhere! I get that faint beeping sound from inside the unit and it won't go past the boot logo. Tried everything from holding down the power button and releasing and also hooked up to both mac and pc but neither will recognize the shield. So frustrating.
If you dont end up figuring it out, I'll buy it off you. Ill probably just use it as a dedicated plex server.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tv/development/nvidia-shield-tv-ssd-t3402580
There's a torrent with all the files you need to reimage a new SSD.
An update to close my thread:
I was able to use the torrent with the files to flash the new SSD, but without my Widevine key (so no Netflix on the SHIELD). The booting process after flashing and updating was very weird, and the SHIELD now has a habit of constantly turning on itself and the TV. But, it worked.
As a preventative measure I mirrored my other 500GB SHIELD's drive to a 500GB SATA disk, and backed up the Widevine key so I can recover from a drive failure on that board at least.
