Hi!,
I have a SM-G900V from Verizon and everything looks ok except that I cannot get an LTE signal. The tech from my local carrier (Smart PH) said that the LTE Freq is ok but the SM-G900V is on bandwidth 2 and it needs to be on bandwidth 1. I checked the local S5's here and it has SM-G900F on them.
Can I download an SM-G900F from anywhere and flash it on my SM-G900V? Will there be problems?
Thanks!!!!

If you try to flash a G900F official ROM with ODIN, it will not allow it since it will recognize the model difference.
Rooting your phone, installing a custom recovery and flashing a G900F ROM this way (not an official ROM ) is probably the only way.
HOWEVER, although they are probably identical hardware-wise, there is an extremely high risk that you will damage the device.
the 900F supports the following bands:
LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 / 2100 / 2600 - SM-G900F
the 900V supports :
LTE 700 MHz Class 13 / 1700 / 2100 - SM-G900V
which are different bands, not sure just rooting and trying to flash an F modem to the V will do but i believe that it will be EXTREMELY risky
Nah RISK is a word I tend to stay away from when it comes to rooting. Paired with "EXTREMELY HIGH" maked me want to drop it. Just swapped my S5 with a Note 3 my wife uses... Now I have a very Pink Phone

some of us devs have tried everything we can think of.. only thing we have trouble with is some network feature not working whether it be data or sms etc.. weve tried a ton of stuff as well as ive posted in multiple threads around xda with 0 help so id say no, it wont work lol you need some port master to figure out what files need to be edited to make it work as simply copying stuff from a g900v rom will not work

*611 and tell this to Verizon. If it is a Verizon phone, they'll send overnight you a new one. Tell them you've done a factory reset and all that mess.

Circle with line through it? Is your IMEI intact?
Have no problem with IMEI. If I set network to auto I can call and use Internet up to H+
I want to explain some detail about my network operator. It provide only Internet over LTE and voice over 3g.
I would think that forcing the phone into LTE only mode would prevent a connection to the network, hence the ghostbusters symbol.
Try setting it back to Auto, and Network Mode LTE/CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA
I ask people on local 9505 forum. LTE here works only when set LTE only mode.
It works on i9505 but doen't work on my i377.

I think that's your best bet, the users here are 95% North American users. It would probably be best to post in the I9505 forum since there will be more international users. I couldn't even find the APN for your carrier.

No it's not possible. Look at the following screenshot below for proof. You will never be able to get LTE with the ATT version of the phone no matter what you do. The phone doesn't support that band. End of story.

"The Show Must Go On"
Hi all, just came to the S5. My carrier (in my case, Bluegrass Cellular) is a carrier partnered with Verizon's LRA Rural LTE program.
More info can be found here. http://www.verizonwireless.com/news/2012/05/4g-lte-goes-live-in-rural-america.html
https://opennetwork.verizonwireless...s-modules/devices/SMG900R6_GalaxyS5_2808.html
This thread is intended to help others with this variant of the S5.
I thought I would take the lead in helping the small community with this phone looking to root and run custom roms as we did in the S4 thread in the Verizon S4 Help/QA Thread.
* our other thread for the S4, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2453312 *
We get our LTE phones from Verizon, and they are close-nearly clone variants of their original Verizon version. For example, for the Galaxy S4 I just moved from, SCH-545 (VZW) VS SCH-I545L (LRA) which even had an identical partition table. This s5 variant is in many ways equal to the Verizon dev edition. Also further evidence to support a mostly Verizon clone these phones share the same fcc id, a3l-smg900v
Status: What I've tried so far.
Root: Geohot's Towelroot worked successfully.
RECOVERY: UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER! use twrp or cwm whatever you please.
Kernel: I use ktoonsez kernel. Works perfectly. Highly recommended, this guy's work is amazing.
Custom ROM: installed and working! VZW custom roms work. If you guys want to try Verizon roms, just edit build prop to lra info, you can find it thread.. Just remember to restore apn aswell and it works perfectly. You can use kitkat TW roms like Alliance rom, OptimalROM, extreme syndicate etc.. some aosp roms work with (patch not needed) some roms have unexplained issues..i dont know what to do about them. Remember to flash kernel of choice (highly recommend ktoonsez) after rom aswell. Have fun!
I will update as I go along, anyone can feel free to post. Welcome any and all who have this phone for any questions.

I tried Alliance slimhyde and extreme syndicate. I think They have problems with our firmware tho. So does each LRA carrier release software updates at different times? I'm on NF2 as well. Will root cause update errors?

The lra carriers should release all at once, updates are pushed from Samsung. Root can cause errors but you can unroot and restore system changes. It will block ota alerts tho, but I have an Xposed module that bypasses the root check so I'll still get notified of an update. Safestrap backups also help out a ton, so you can make a stock system backup to restore later etc.

i did, says nothing about boot. everything else is ok. as far as testing the build prop, easiest way is probably to make a backup, and install build.prop editor app. it will create a romtoolbox folder on phone, then in that folder you should see build prop backups. paste it in there, open up app and restore it.
Hey guys
Has anyone tried to use a GSM Sim card? US or international, to test GSM capabilities of this model? Technically this phone should be an unbranded, unbloated Verizon model, which is SIM unlocked for US/Intl. carriers, unless the software restricts it.
Since our carriers use band 13 LTE like Verizon, it has to be unlocked.
I'm just curious what LTE bands it has.

You can't coz are different devices. Don't try it more or you will own a paperweight.
Every phone is a different device.. I do not see your point, sorry.
Sent from my SGH-M919V using Tapatalk
@EvilKittyCupcake: The SPH-L720 is a CDMA device while the SGH-I337M is a GSM device. The different model numbers alone should be sufficient to tell you what you're trying to do is impossible. However, to enforce this both Odin and Kies only allow you to flash ROMs for the model of device you actually have by polling the device itself prior to flashing. Therefore, trying to flash an I337M ROM on a L720 will ALWAYS fail.
Attempting to force the issue may brick the S4, so stop trying it.
I flashed a M919V ROM on an i337M successfully despite them being different model numbers.

Sure sometimes it works. But there is absolutely no point in doing so.
The M919V and I337M are both GSM and are actually the same hardware, so that may be an instance where it actually works, although it shouldn't. As Lennyz1988 has noted, there's really no point to it. About the only reason someone would even try placing a GSM ROM on a CDMA device is to convert the phone to GSM so it can be used on a GSM network. Is that the reason you're trying this?

Flashing a GSM ROM to a CDMA device won't enable GSM. To change from CDMA to GSM requires working in the S4's service menus, which is not for the faint of heart. Don't ask me the steps involved either, because I don't know them. The one time I mucked around in the service menu, I lost my SIM unlock for a few days until I resolved the problem. I'm lucky that's all I lost, as I could have bricked my S4.
Hey there folks
I have a SM-g900t that i got off Ebay (unlocked, KNOX counter Tripped). i got it because i hated my SM-G386W.
so i get this S% and start playing with Custom Roms and Loaded a rom from the SM-G900F ("ViSiON-X" or some crap) and while it works good, i cant connect to 4G anymore. phone cycles between HSPA, HSPA+ and 3G.
since im on Wind Mobile (inb4 Wind doesnt have 4G, they do, in specific areas, such as mine) i thought i'd flash the phone with the SM-g900w8 firmware from Wind mobile.
when i tried i got a Secure Check Fail: aboot message on the phone, and odin just immediatly fails.
im obviously doing something wrong here, and im guessing its going to be simple as hell to someone whos more experienced than i, so i thought i'd come ask here:
(TLDR here) How do i get my SM-G900t (that thinks its a SM-G900F at the moment) to think its a SM-G900W8 without getting "Secure check fail" messages?
before anyone asks: That samsung re-register thing is off.

I just read about this. According to this review: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2500353,00.asp
"It (Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy S7) has LTE bands 2/3/4/5/7/8/13/18/19/20/38/39/40/41. Samsung unfortunately removed key LTE bands for the other major US carriers—12 for T-Mobile, 17 for AT&T, and 25 for Sprint—to make it difficult to use this model elsewhere."
I doubt it was Samsung that removed it - more likely, Verizon had them remove the others. Just a guess, tho.
Is there an ELI5 version of this thread? What is the importance of knowing which "bands" are supported?

Using the phone LTE in other carriers. Carriers 'own' certain frequency bands which are used to communicate with your phone. Your phone and the tower need to be able to use the same frequency band in order to communicate.
Most phones work on 2G/3G world wide (except on CDMA carriers like Verizon, generally most phones don't use the tech/frequencies for verzion nor would Verizon allow then on their 2G/3G bands of they did). But LTE is new enough that most phones don't support the 20 odd frequency ranges used (2G/3G use less then 10 combined for most of the world).

The modem supports all the bands, Verizon disables it in software. What a bummer! I will suggest you to buy G950U or US cellular model.
Or flash the firmware of the carrier you want to enable the modem which has been successfully posted on a few xda threads and other sites. All snapdragon us variants can be cross flashed.

I don't have links to the firmware, I'm at work. If you look at updato.com you can find the latest for the g930a, or you could get the g930u nougat update. There are plenty of threads that work through Odin usage in each forum in the QA
att s8 question

You'd have to check on the s8 forums. An s7 probably would as I think only the Sprint and tmo phones were simlocked. Not sure though as I've only had my ST phone and read the vzw phone being used on several carriers.

Or flash the firmware of the carrier you want to enable the modem which has been successfully posted on a few xda threads and other sites. All snapdragon us variants can be cross flashed.

So are you saying that the actual bands are software based not hardware based. So all we have todo is flash the right ENG and ROM and wala I have right radios for my carrier?? US Based.
Yes, flashing the fw of the carrier loads the correct radio drivers. The radios are hardware based, but locked down by what the firmware has the instructions to look for and run.

Great explanation, I’m new to this stuff - we all have to start somewhere right?
So is root required to flash? The reason I ask is that I’d like to buy an S7 but I want to be able to WiFi hotspot tether without carrier provisioning and some versions of the phone allow it while I’m pretty sure others block that (like att)...By the way do you know which version would be best to flash to for WiFi tethering and ALL LTE bands made available? Thanks!

I use the hybrid rom that is loaded with vzw and debloated custom to my needs. It has tethering enabled. You'll just need to use root long enough to get the flashfire setup going and then once you're done it is unrooted. You'll have to check other threads regarding performance tweaks if you decide to stay rooted.

I thought the bootloader was locked on the Verizon S7 which doesn't allow rooting?... So rooting actually is possible on the Verizon S7?

Using the engineering kernel for nougat you can achieve toy, but it's buggy and slow since it wasn't meant to be used for daily devices. That's why the hybrid ton was developed to show some root uses without needing to keep root, like removing bloat permanently or getting the tethering service setup.
