[Q] Unfortunately, Apps has stopped (Tried to install Android L APKS) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hi,
I was trying to install the new Chrome APK manually through Root Browser from the Android L dump,
but now after putting in two files into the LIB folder all these apps started crashing.
Also : I have installed the Google Play Services 5.0 and the Google Now/Search Velvet APK but "OK GOOGLE" hotword doesn't work.
Using Google Launcher (NOT L version)
Unfortunately, Running has stopped. ( I don't have an app called Running )
Unfortunately, Root Browser has stopped working.
Unfortunately, Google Play Newsstand has stopped working.
Unfortunately, Google Search has stopped.
Spotify/Instagram/Textplus/Hangouts/Whatsapp force closes immediately after opening.
- I haven't tested to see if these are the only apps that stopped working.
These are the files that I placed into LIB folder :
Chrome.apk ( the L version )
libwebviewchromium_plat_support.so ( Not sure if I actually placed this file into the LIB folder )
libchrome.1985.65.so (When I placed this it asked me to rewrite the old one and I did without backing it up :crying: )
Now I cant change anything since Root Browser force closes. Is there any other app that I could use?
How do I fix this :crying:
Thanks

More than likely you'll have to adb delete then push the correct apks. Although since what's not working is apps I supposed you could delete what you placed in there with adb then just redownload from play store... Any way adb seems like the way to go. Look how adb commands to navigate to that folder then delete the file.

Adb is like the windows command promt (cmd) but for android. You'll need to download the android SDK for this
Here http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
List of adb commands here http://developer.android.com/tools/help/adb.html
Also push command here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...mand-to-push-a-file-on-device-without-sd-card

What version do you currently have?
Did it come with your rom or did you download it?
You can backup your settings (export) to your sdcard and restore (import) with the new version if by chance your settings are not preserved.
Im using CM 5.0.8 ,and it came with 0.8.9.
And how do i go about doing that export/import?
Either download link from your phone and install or download on PC put on SD card open file manager and install are easiest. Put it on a friends phone. Looks good. Backup and restore are in settings adw.

Do a search for ADW.Launcher in the Market, it's there. Just make sure you have a period in between "ADW" and "Launcher."
Hey,
I'm interested in updating the ADW.Launcher version that came with my CM5.0.8 rom, but I don't know if it's OK to update through market or get the apk file and use "adb install" or find a zip file to flash...
Could anyone make some light in here pls?
Thanks!
I have tried downloading the apk file for my CM5x and MDPI device from Anderweb's page but when I tried to "adb install" I get...
INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS
Can someone shed some light? Is there a way to update the ADW.Launcher that comes with a specific ROM version?
Tried using android commander?
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
Since I'm new to this scene, what is the difference between the "adb install" method and using the Android Commander (which I need install)?
Would Astro help in this case, because I remember reading that has support for installing apk files?
I'd like to do this update as clean as possible.
Thank you for the reply!
PS: I have actually installed Android Commander and installed the ADW.Launcher apk for CM5x MDPI as an Update (wasn't sure what to chose between Private, Application or Update) and the installer said it was successful but after reboot I still have the old version 0.8.6
Any ideas?
U can download it put it on your sdcard and install with a file manager. Doesn't matter which way u go. Should work. Done it both ways
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
I did it somewhat the way you said and installed it with Android Explorer as an update because the regular installation would fail with the error that the application already exists.
The problem is that the new version gets copied into /data/apps/ and I can start using it but after the first reboot it's not there anymore and I get back to the one that came with my CM5.0.8 rom which is in /system/apps/
I would really like to get a solution that would update the one in /system/apps/ which might be harder because it's a memory mapped version of the ROM and changes get lost after reboot.
Please correct me where I am wrong...
Have u tried goin to the market and installing it from there? It's like version 1.4.1 or something now
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
place the file on your /sd.
adb push /sdcard/filename.apk /system/app
restart home or reboot phone.
I ended up installing the one from Market and making that the default launcher, but I would really like to just replace the one in the system folder - no need to keep 2 versions of the same app
I'll try the method NetrixTardis was suggesting.
U can do it through the terminal as well. Maybe removing the old one will solve it. Use the rm command in the terminal and see if u can do it that way. Ex.
$su (enter after each line)
#rm /system/app/(name of app.apk)
Then u can use cp command to copy the one from your sdcard.
Cp /sdcard/(app.apk) /system/app/
Someone correct me if I'm wrong in the lines
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
hey johnson8cyl
I'll try that and let you know if it worked, should I copy it to the same name?
like /system/app/adwlauncher.apk is the name for the system app, while the Market installed one is org.adwlauncher....apk
do you guys know a good keyboard replacement and a way to configure the vibration alarm on my CM5.0.8? these are mostly the things I miss from my stock ROM
oh...forgot to mention the CM5.0.8 default camera does not have all the setting (like I can't set the ISO), is there one that does that trick?
thanks!
I'll answer the keyboard part. I've got Smart Keyboard installed and its a lot better than the stock Android one.
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
U have to use the names exactly the one your removing and one your copying. Names have to be what u want to remove or copy. That make sense?
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
Makes total sense to keep the same names only that I have this problem...
any ideas? kinda makes sense because that comes from the ROM and is mounted as read-only
# su
su
# pwd
pwd
/system/app
# rm -f ADWLauncher.apk
rm -f ADWLauncher.apk
rm: can't remove 'ADWLauncher.apk': Read-only file system
ps: I actually managed to fix this what was missing is "adb remount" to mount system partition read-write
So you figured it out? Were you able to get it removed and replaced?

[Q] Need help reinstalling stock Twitter app

Okay, I rooted my N1 with Universal Androot and removed the stock Froyo Twitter app without backing it up. (Shame on me.) Now, I can't update to 2.2.1 because of it (a status 7 error complaining about not finding /system/app/Twitter.apk)
I have, at the advice of some other forum posts I've read, installed Twitter from Android Market and backed it up to the sd. Renamed it Twitter.apk and used the Terminal Emulator to copy it to /system/app. That worked and the file is there, but the update still will not apply. Do I also need a .odex file? Is there any way to update at this point?
Any help would be super appreciated. THANKS!
if this is the new twitter app would you be kindly enough to share it..lol

grab it from an older update like from frf91 update.. then do adb push /system/app
if you cant do that...
put the twitter app in sdcard then go to terminal and do
cp /sdcard/twitter /system/app
reboot then apply it.. i had trouble with amazon and i did it that way and it worked well

It looks as though I can't flash the GAPPS without unlocking the bootloader and installing a new recovery, correct? I'm really not that motivated if that's the case. I appreciate the information.
OK, just download the GAPPS, then use something like estrongs file manager to unzip to a folder of choice (with estrongs, longpress and select extract).
The Twitter apk will be in the extract folder/system/app. Just click the apk to install...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
BTW, if you have root, you may as well install a custom recovery (without touching the bootloader).
Easy way with ROM Manager (has Clockworkmod and Amon-Ra), or use adb if you wanna learn something...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Thanks for the tips. I'll check it out tomorrow when I can make a data transfer. I am doubtful that installing from the zip will solve much since I already loaded the app and its already in the system folder.
could someone verify whether or not the Twitter app has a corresponding odex file that I might need?
I ran into the same problem when I removed Amazon Mp3, but I was impatient so I ended up reflashing the stock rom and then updating.
There is a thread that has all n1 updates look for it and download froyo fr91 update then unzip it go to system app and look for twitter apk then put in sdcard and do commands again .. I tried to do with market twitter and it failed so I did it the way I'm explained andnworkd

[Solved] Google Play Store not working

I rooted my Kindle Fire and the only thing that isn't working is the Google Play Store. I used Kindle Fire Utility to root my device. When I open up Google Play, it says:
The application Google Play Store (process.com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
I've tried installing the apk various ways but it's the same result every time.
Any helped appreciated.
Did you move it to /system/app and chmod 755 before installing?
I had this problem for awhile myself and it took me hours to find a solution. What I did was after I rooted my kindle and flashed it over to cm9 reloaded I noticed gapps was not working. So to fix this I rebooted Into twrp and reflashed the gapps zip rebooted once more and my problem was solved. Hope this helps

Flashing insecure stock rom 6.3 did the trick.
It was working. I could navigate through the market and look for apps but when I went to install Spotify, it went back to that error message. After that, I try opening the market and it shows the error message.
I'll be honest; I'm a little lost on what everyone said above. All I've been doing is downloading the apk's from the Internet and throwing them on my downloads folder. I open ES File Explorer and download the apk's. Is there anything simple I can try?

@b63: I did what was in that forum and now I'm rooted. Thank you.
Only issue left is when I open the Play Store, it says:
"You must add an account to the device to continue. Do you want to add one now?"
I press yes, it closes. I press no, it closes.

Just set up the es file manager set as rw and drag and drop the 3 apks into the system folder and reboot the kindle

I believe I'm installing APK's. I've been trying to install files like these:
com.android.vending-3.5.15.apk
Vending(Mod).apk
I move the files to system/apps with Root Explorer and change the permissions but after I install it, it says "Application Not Installed."

I also wanted to ask; aside from backups or maybe those 3 APK's I just moved, is it safe to delete anything, like the zip file ROM, to free up space on the internal storage?
i assume you mean the sdcard partition
yupp - it's safe - you can keep a backup on your computer if you like

PhoenixOS v2.5.9.375 Google Play Services will not Update

Yesterday, I installed PhoenixOS v2.5.9.375 on an old laptop, and I must say that I really like the Android experience on a laptop that I thought was too old to be good for anything. One problem that I am having though is that I cannot update Google Play Services which is preventing some of the GApps that I want to use from working. I tried using the instructions in this thread to fix the problem, but sadly they do not work with this version of the OS, and I get an error message saying "App not installed" when I try to fix it this way. I also so this, which looked promising until I learned that it requires a dual boot into Windows, and I am using PhoenixOS exclusively on my laptop, meaning that this is ruled out as an option.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I am having the same issue with my Google Play Services, but the one I provided in the thread works with Google Play Games at least. I wonder why Phoenix OS comes with version number beginning with 070... This version is for x86 and for Android 4.0+ nodpi (according to apkmirror). Shouldn't Phoenix OS come with 270 or 480 since Phoenix OS 64-bit runs on Android 7.1.1 (32-bit runs on 5.1)? If so, my instinct is telling me that we have to forcefully install the updated Google Play Services (probably along with Google Play Store and Google Services Framework) to get it working correctly. This cold probably be done with root, so at least we know we can fully root the OS and work our way from there.
I have that problem also before... I downloaded the updated Google Play service in apkmirror, tried to manually installed it but still it wont install... But what I did in order to fix it is first to disable the Play Service on the App Settings and then I use Root Explorer to locate the location of the Gplayservice which is /system/priv-app/GmsCore. so what I did i rename the GPlayService that I downloaded into GmsCore.apk and then replace the app on /system/priv-app/GmsCore and change permission to "rw-r-r". and re-enabling back the GPlayService on that App Settings and reboot.... at Viola its fix... now I dont have an error on it anymore...

Thank you for the info, this looks very promising, please could you let us know which version you downloaded
Hi all,
This is how I got it working, several ways actually:
Using the toolkit http://bbs.phoenixstudio.org/en/showthread.php?tid=9661
Extract the system.img from the downloaded installation EXE or copy the system.img from your install directory
Make sure you download the GAPPS7.1 in the above post and put it in the \tools directory of the toolkit
Follow the toolkit to unpack/update GAPPS/repack
Copy the system.img back to your installed directory (C:\PhoenixOS)
Hacking it yourself
Download the latest GAPPS 7.1 PICO
Replace the APK in the GAPPS package over the ones installed on your PhoenixOS
Does this method require you to have a dual boot setup? Because I don't.
Android PC tool works!!
Used the PC tool and it worked flawlessly. On another note i have been trying to tinker with the OS and found out that the system cannot be mounted as r/w. Tried the command
Code:
su mount -o rw,remount /system
which gives me /dev/loop0 is write-protected mounting read-only. Is there any way fix to this.

how to isntall system app

Hello, I am developing an app and inside the app I need to access the voice call as one of the features. For that I need system privileges so my app is marked as system app in my manifest. I tried installing my app on emulator as system app and it worked there. the guide I used told me to sign the apk with platform key.
now I want to test the app on physical device but I am having trouble installing the app. i've spent last couple day to get my phone rooted and make adb work on redmi note 7. I am able to push the apk to sysytem/app but after reboot the app is not present on my phone. I figured maybe I need to use a different signing key in order to make It work with Xiaomi but I couldn't find any information on how to sign my apk. is the problem indeed because of the signing or do I need to do something else? if the problem is signing where can I find the keys? Can anyone help me out with this problem?
