I installed DSC 0.61B today. I'm reasonably pleased with its performance, except for 3G not wanting to wake up with the rest of the phone (a known issue). Besides that issue I encountered a problem that plagued me when using StreakDroid. An issue crops up where the camera display turns white, rendering the camera and all apps that depend on the camera useless. It took me three hours to pin down the issue, but I believe I have found it.
Something in LBE Privacy Guard 2.x is causing the camera to cut out on my Streak. Don't ask me exactly what in the app is causing the problem. All I know is that I need to find a copy of the 1.x APK and install it to see if that version also causes the camera to cut out.
To everyone else that has encountered the camera white screen of death, post here whether you use LBE or not, and what version.
EDIT: LBE 1.x also causes the camera screen of death. Guess I'll have to use Droidwall instead.
Yes, the same to me?
My camera display turns white screen, but I dont know how to fix it.
Thanks,
Are you running LBE Privacy Guard? If so, you have to do a factory reset and not install it. If you're not running LBE one of your apps is not compatible with Gingerbread. You'll need to factory reset and install your apps one by one, checking the camera each time. The app that breaks the camera is likely the last app you install. Once you find it, then factory reset (again!) and don't install the incompatible app. Using nandroid backups do not work. At least they didn't for me.
I wasn't kidding when I said it took three hours to pin things down.
Same problem here:
DSC 0.62b & LBE Privacy Guard
==> white screen when using camera
==> white screen when trying to play youtube videos
In LBE Privacy Guard I unchecked "Start automatically at phone boot"
After a restart, camera & youtube worked fine.
Obviously, the LBE app causes the issue.
Unfortunately, Droidwall can't compete with LBE Privacy Guard's features.
So let's find a solution.
i have DSC 62b and without this problem, I have this problem only if I install Chainfire3D and his drivers ...

That's good to know for the future. People at least won't have to do a hard reset.

Contact the developer, if you can. They seem to have no contact information on their pages. Droidwall may not be able to compete with LBE's features, but it's also not intended to. Droidwall is simply a front end for the built-in IPTables.
I will be looking into Permissions Denied by the man who put out Busybox as an alternative.
I think switching video driver mode to mdp should help.
@_n0p_: LBE Privacy Guard should function regardless of what video mode is used. While I am sure changing the video mode helps, the point is that people shouldn't have to make that change just to use the software. The fact that LBE has a bad interaction with the camera means LBE has a bug somewhere in its code.
I personally think that composition type gpu mode is quite experimental, it functions, but it's not an app fault, if it (probably) uses hw accelerated features of GPU chip, that breaks hw accelerated surfaces on camera output.
What really should be done - is fixing adreno driver/libs that are the real problem.
I've already tried some other adreno drivers with no luck so far, but as we are working on updating and improving kernel so a solution may be found in near future.

Perhaps I'm not understanding you here, so forgive me if I restate myself.
LBE Privacy Guard only deals with app permissions and has no control over other hardware or software, especially at the driver level. Yet it's interacting with the camera driver to render the screen useless? If that is the case, StreakDroid is also using the same video mode. The question is whether the other Gingerbread ROMs are encountering this problem and whether they use the video mode you and Streakdroid use.
As a side note, Permissions Denied works perfectly and has no autostart option. This means Sackradi is absolutely correct in that the LBE autostart mode has a problem. So what is the connection between LBE's autostart mode and the camera?
I got your point.
To be more specific - it's not the app that controls harware. It's a bug in video driver function, called by app.
Glad you've found a workaround.
I freeze the LBE by using titanium backup then restart, and then I defrost LBE.
Everything work fine for me until I restart my phone.
I like LBE very much, so I just do the step everytime I restart my phone.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
Which essentially renders LBE useless since LBE has to be active to monitor the permissions and deny them as needed. If Permissions Denied has such a monitor, it's written so that it doesn't screw up the camera like LBE does.
I get this issue when I patched libwebcore.so with Arabic patcher. How to change the video mode?
system/build.prop
change
debug.composition.type=gpu
to
debug.composition.type=mdp
I am using Power_rom_lite and this issue was bugging me from last two days, when I installed LBE. I realised the problem during video call on Gtalk. I saw white image in place of my video but other end was able to see me without any problem, only I was not able to see myself. Changing gpu to mdp solved the problem. Thanks a lot.

Hi,
I have an annoying issue on the latest Quarx's CM10 (18/03). I have this problem since November I think. When I'm playing music from my SD card on any music app (usually I use Play music or PowerAMP) it stop randomly after some music when screen is off.
I think it happen because of RAM management which kill running app on IDLE to increase battery life. But I tried tweak RAM setting and it didn't change nothing.
I think I'm not the one with this issue. I'll take every idea to try to fix this.
Thank you.
Keep your app in foreground.
And if your player has notification thingy, the atk can't kill that app. I think both apps you mentioned has a notification control, SDL it can't be memory management!

Thank you for your reply.
I can keep the app in foreground but it take approximately 30-45mo of RAM so my phone will become very laggy.
I think you're right when you say it can't kill the app because of the notification. But I think android system kill an other background service which is necessary to the music be played correctly. I'll trying to investigate when I'll have more time.
I have an other app called Deezer (French Spotify service). This app never stop or less frequently. I think it's because it use it own decode system (music file are encrypted on the server or memory card). The app don't use external services to decode music so the app continue playing after hours.
Btw I find strange that I'm the only one to complain about this. I will make a clean install in some day.
AW: [Q] Music stop playing on CM10
Hi, you test supercharger script? With this you can look apps in memory or under general I saw a post how to look apps in memory.

Yes in know how to do it. But if I lock music player in memory, it will take about 40mo all the time. My Defy will become very laggy.

Hi Husi10,
I have the same issue as you about music playback.
My problem is the following :
When I'm using Deezer app with CM10 or CM10.1, music playback is frequently laggy (always in the very begenning of the tracks) and sometimes it stops playing in some unknown situations (as you described on this thread).
This issue doesn't occur on CM7.
Did you, as me, notice this playback lags in the begenning of the tracks ?
Did you find a fix or a workaround for this issue on CM10.x since March (date of your post) ?
Thanks
Hi,
Yeah, music playback on Deezer's app is laggy in the beginning of every track. I think there's no workaround because it's a bug with the app itself. It happens also with my tablet (Nexus 10). But playback never stop by itself.
After my post, I did a clean install (wipe data) and also format my SD card. It helped a lot, I never experimented this kind of bug again.

In my experience, music lags issue only occur in CM10.x. Did you already test Deezer on CM7 ?
[EDIT] So, do you think that Deezer is buggy like this only since Android 4.1 ?
On which ROM your Nexus 10 runs ?
My Nexus 10 runs on AOKP (4.2.2). I think it's an issue with Deezer itself, whatever the rom.

Hi,
I'm just (re)testing Deezer on my Defy running Quarx CM10.1 build (2013-06-26).
I've changed I/O scheduler to "cfq" (before my change, it was "sio") and it seems to work better, I don't notice lags at the beginning of each songs for the moment. :fingers-crossed:
Is it the same for you ? Could you test it in order to confirm my potential finding ?
Thanks
Oh yeah that's really better with cfq scheduler. Thank you for the tips.

After one more day of tests with cfq i/o scheduler, I've noticed that lags at the beginning of a song still occur BUT only after launching Deezer and only with the first song. The next songs playback is smooth.
hello,
i've searched now for a while and could not find a solution for this problem:
on my device (and this was the same with my note2) and on stock kernels i could not get the equalizer function properly.
the stock equalizer does not alter the sound in the right way, in fact it makes it LESS "loud" on the opposite frequencies i want to adjust.
example: if i want to add heights the bass goes down significantly, but no hights are added. same for adding bass: the heigts go down, but the bass level did not increase. if i turn the EQ off, the sound get much louder then, although i adjusted the typically "U" formed curve!
as far as my search showed this is a problem for other people as well, here in the note3 forum there are almost no postings regarding this.
is your EQ working as expected?
what apps do you use? stock music player or something different? i use google play music, but its the same for other apps as well.
even tried to remove all other music apps (as suggested in some postings) due to possible conflicts, but this wont help! i also installed a different equalizer app (and removed the stock one, after only disabling it) from the market, same results.
on my note2 i had the same issue, the only thing which helped was to flash a custom kernel. with this i was able to use equalizers the way they were meant!
does someone has some experience here?
regards,
markus

thx for the answer,
i used poweramp for years, and it did me an excellent job! but for convenience i switched to google play some time ago, and since then i have this equalizer problem with samsung stock kernels! if i remember right this is since the introduction of 4.0 or 4.1!
because of my migration to google play i would need a solution how to get the equalizer right, and i'm curious if other people have the same problem! and: if someone managed to get it work!

Now I know this is many years old, but I see from your sig you have an S8+ now. Do you still have this issue with the stock EQ? I'm getting exactly the same behaviour with the S8+ and the S9+, turning any slider up just seems to cut the entire volume down, it's so annoying!
Ok I'm an audiophile musician, as many of you I think
and, though stock audio just works I'm trying to look at audio mods here
I looked in many threads and I can see that ARISE is very well known, supported and loved, but looks like is very customizeable and confusing....
dolby atmos in apps section doesn't work well, it lowers volume and...well, I can't feel any improvement
viper4android should be nice, but I never tried it
now...what are you using? things that work nice and stable, with quality enhancements....don't need thousands of profiles or eq since I'm a big fan of flat sound (the way is meant to be listened)
Thank you for your attention, once we'll have some satisfactory answer I'll make a poll and a general AIO audiophile thread with all working options as referral.
EDIT: ARISE audio system simple guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/r-s-e-sound-systems-auditory-research-t3379709
go to this thread, don't be scared, just search for lastest deuteronomy zip and flash it
you will find a nice app called viper4arise that will let you manage settings separately for every audio output with simple and nice UI
you can also import presets and plugins, but it's secondary.
Im going to tune in on this. Would like to install ARISE on my nexus (comes with Viper4Android) but there are so many versions to choose from, it gets a bit confusing.
Any tips on which ARISE works for our phone on 7.1.1 ?
ARISE is the right answer. It's customizable for true audiophiles but simply flashing it seriously improves audio quality without you having to tweak anything. Seriously. I know there are several zips for ARISE. Just make sure you get the most current stable release (Deuteronomy 2.3.3) and I usually go for the smallest zip file because I don't need all of the extra stuff like Dolby Atmos and whatnot. It comes with a modified version of the Viper4Android app that allows you to tweak settings to your liking. The app, by default, is setup for novices or people that don't need to get too specific with any settings so you can boost bass, enable clarity options, spectrum extension, etc. by toggling the switch next to it. Simple as that.

so. you suggest to flash deuteronomy (lastest) and...just that? what about plugins, the prop editor that comes with hell of documentation...profiles and stuff...none of that?

I never did any of that. I just flashed, booted up, went into the ARISE V4A app and toggled the options I wanted. There was an immediate difference in audio quality. You can toggle the options while playing music and hear the difference.

Really depends on what you're playing the music on. I usually enabled Spectrum Extension (0.4 strength) as a lot of my music is 320kbps MP3 and Bass Boost (default settings) for Bluetooth and Headset (3.5mm jack) while enabling "Speaker Optimization" for the speaker. I mainly use the bluetooth audio in my car and while my car stereo isn't that great but I did throw some Kickers in the front doors. Spectrum Extension is awesome, but make sure to disable it if you're listening to any FLAC files.

Because it interferes with ARISE / V4A. If you're completely stock with no audio mods there's no point to disabling it.

Hey guys! I've never really used any Magisk modules before and in a lot of development threads I've seen people mentioning ones they use such as Doze and Camera2 API.
Which modules do you guys find useful in your everyday lives?

Depends on what you want to use.
Doze for GSM is mostly if you experience a lot of drain from Google Play Services. I personally use Viper4Android 1.7.1 for audioFx, YoutubeVanced, Greenify4Magisk, and APT-X libraries.

Playback gain control: slight
Spectrum extension: 0.5
firequalizer: rock

dynamic system: high-end headphone v1, bass 20%
ViperBass: natural 60hz 8dB
ViperClarity: Ozone+ 6.0dB

AnalogX: slight
I recommend you to experiment with different settings, and find the one that is best for you. :good:

Just backup any system apps you plan on removing so if something goes wrong you can just easily reinstall it through titanium backup or you'll probably have to end up reflashing stock ROM and it can be tedious depending on your device (and losing all data mind you)
