4.4.4 OTA update won't install - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there.
I have a nexus 4,temporarily rooted it with busybox installed and then fully unrooted it using SuperSU. When it was unrooted then I received the OTA and when I tried installing it I received an error during installation. I tried again and yet it failed. Any idea? I'm on stock 4.4.3 rooted now, with stock recovery.

I'm with the same problem, anyone? D:

You must still have some system files that are modified. The exact failure message would help. You could also use this

Yes, you must return your /system partition to stock 4.4.3 before the device can take the 4.4.4 ota.

It just says error. That's it.

There must be something else modified, and if there isn't, be on the safe side and flash stock /system anyway. If that still fails, then there is clearly something else wrong.

The only thing I changed was installed busybox on /system/xbin

I think there's something else wrong. There's quite a few, including myself that are receiving the same error with the OTA and have never rooted or even unlocked the boot loader. I'm on a Nexus 5 completely stock. I received the 4.4.3 OTA with no issues at all last week, but now after 4 separate attempts at 4.4.4, all 4 times failed. I even did a full system restore and immediately received the system update notification, only to have that one fail too. So whatever is going on has nothing to do with modifying the system because I haven't missed with anything. Unless we have completely different issues. But it doesn't seem like it?

You might be onto something. Mind messaging me if you find something? I'll do the same,if I find out something.
The Internet's pretty vast

Same is the case with me till today.
Do we have a fix for this ?? or I have to stick with 4.4.3 only.

[Q] Update to 4.3 from 4.2.2 or not?

i've read that there has been issues with the 4.3 radios losing signal and such and i'm not sure whether i should update just yet. i have the ota sitting waiting to be installed. also, would i lose root or have any problems updating to 4.3? i rooted using mskip's latest toolkit using the 1 click for all option. thanks.
Losing signal...? I have had no such things with T-Mobile and 27/84 & 33/48/84. The hybrid radios are fine with LTE/2g/etc.

I would say absolutely yes, you have a nexus device and the update is very stable, problems are always reported even on 4.2.2 i say always move on to the newest version.

Many problems that might arise after the update can be solved with a factory reset

Ok great. So it wouldn't mess up my root then? And if I wanted to flash a radio to enable lte I could still do that right?

Alright, you've got root and clockwork. That's a start. Basically, if the ota won't load, you're gonna have to use clockwork to flash it your self. Flashing a ROM is when you delete the /system partition (it contains your systemui, jelly bean itself, etc.). Basically find a ROM, factory reset, flash it. You might not have to factory reset but as always...
Take a backup!

OTA updates are always slow. If you want 4.4.2 now; download the image file and flash it via fastboot. Make sure to back up all your files to a computer.

Update failed.

Hi, I'm on 4.2.2 stock rooted and am receiving an update. I'm Not sure if it's 4.3 or 4.4.2 but it downloaded and tried to install. It got to 27% and said update failed. I've tried a few times and it just fails. So does anyone know why my update keeps failing? Do I need to Odin back to stock(mf3) and then update?

You can't update a routed phone via OTA, but I think there is a way to unroot.

You have to un-root your phone before you can access an official OTA update. If you are using Super Su, like most of us, you can use it to un-root. Search the forums for rooting if you need additional info. Good luck.
Thanks a lot guys.

I unrooted via SuperSU and I'm getting the same error. I guess I will have to Odin back to stock and then update.

I'm having the same issue. Where can i find the official 4.3 rom?.....All i'm finding is the 4.2.2 stock which also fails using odin. I may be doing something wrong though.

Man, you have to look around a little and do a much better job of searching
I shouldn't do this but it's your lucky day http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37925359

If the ota fails every time, that means that your /system partition is too heavily modified for the ota to complete ( most likely the result of xposed). You need to disable xposed, flash the ota (4.4.4 zip) and then flash the SuperSU zip again for root, and then re-enable xposed.

Thank you for your answer
I have tried what you said, sadly it doesn't work
I'm even did full unroot from inside the supersu.. I think I just need to have a modified update.zip to pass this.

Because it still fails, the best thing I can suggest is to download the 4.4.3 factory image, extract the system.img and the flash that through fastboot. This will return your /system to stock and you can flash the ota without issue, although you will need to restore any /system mods.
