Can't Update SU Binary on Note 3??? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I just got done rooting my Note 3 with towelroot and everything went fine. I checked to make sure it worked with "Root Checker" and it said I successfully had root access. So next step I took was to download a SuperUser app from the PlayStore, and no matter WHAT SuperUser app I use, NONE of them can update the SU Binary????? so I went and downloaded "Busybox Installer" and downloaded the latest Busybox version to my Note. Then went back to retry to update the Binary but still no progess!! I'm stuck and I really don't know what else to do! I'm not trying to install any ROM or Safestrap. Just want my phone rooted to mess around with some permissions and hacked apks. So can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong???? I've rebooted my Note COUNTLESS number of times and still SuperSU still says it fails to update the Binary! It successfully disable KNOX tho. So what can I do so that I can use my root to my full potential and update the SU Binary???

I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that its just a problem with towelroot.. And that same thing happened to me on my note 3. I'm pretty sure what I did was download safestrap (you can I install it after) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2517610 and flash this (chainfires supersu +binary) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2517610
If that doesn't work just either pm me or comment that it didn't and I'll see if I can find another way! And you can always uninstall safestrap once you flashed the package (don't forget to clear cache and dalvic)

clarify your Super user app from google play is 1.99r4 ....you should check THIS thread for latest SuperSu app (2.00)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
keep in mind Vzw recovery is locked, you cannot flash files on stock rom.
SS will relieve big headaches....so install it.
check upload... you get one free today
:good:

Once rooted with towelroot, I uninstalled the towelroot app. After the next reboot, SuperSU was not complaining anymore for me.

Thanks for all the help! Got it up and running in no time!

Download the flashable zip of supersu. Then instead of flashing, go to the Commons folder inside it and extract the apk. Install it and then run it from app drawer.

This just prompts SU binary update and fails.
I managed to download safestrap and have the su zip in my downloads, but dont knwo where to go from here.
I also don't use anything but stock ROM, won't I trip KNOX by flashing my stock?
First time rooting so I probably shouldn't play around with things alone. Thanks

Still not downloading the binary. Now I can't even uninstall it through drawer, did the flash make it a system app?
I think I should've uninstalled it before the flash.

Updated Software and Lost Root. Whats next?

So none of my programs are working corectly since I updated the OTA when I was rooted.
What is the next step for me? Is there a way to Re-Root? Titanium backup seems to not be working right...
I don't want to lose my current settings like I did when I first rooted. What is the best thing for me to do?
Thanks!

UPDATE!!!
Here is the message that has just been posted:
***************
Say BYE-BYE to Kingo, well for those of you that have been following the saga that continues with this latest update. Hashcode for those who didn't know took the Kingo Update, which he and many skilled others knew what we were in for, but the chance for Root was great to take the risk. Anyhow, it appears there is now a way to use Kingo to gain Root, then Remove it after gaining Root, returning back to our safe version of Chainfire's SuperSU version 1.65. It almost seemed like a no-brainer after I came across it in one of his post. Refer first to post, [RECOVERY LOCKED] Safestrap Recovery v3.63 (BETA) [2013-11-07] - Page 22 - (VZW) Galaxy Note 3 Development - RootzWiki (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/106986-recovery-locked-safestrap-recovery-v363-beta-2013-11-07/?p=1523354) With this post you are basically going to Chainfire's site and downloading SuperSU 1.65 in the .zip to flash, which will remove the Kingo apk and su. Hashcode recommends using his Safestrap to flash the zip. I on the other hand am still having some issues with SS, therefore I am finding Flash Gordon to be more effective and easier to use, xda-developers - View Single Post - [APK][Flash Zips WITHOUT a Recovery!]Flash Gordon: an Edify to Bash parser/translator (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40702571&postcount=1). I have included the link to Flash Gordon which it is an app, works very easily just download the SuperSU 1.65.zip to your device find the zip with Flash Gordon and run it, then Reboot it and your done. No more Kingo.

This seems really complicated any way to to do this step by step so I don't break my phone?
anyone?
Kingo is the only root method for the N3 that I know of at this time. You basically quoted the step by step two posts up.
1. Download and install Kingo
2. Run the exploit
3. Obtain root.
You have a few of options after this.
1st option and the one I'd recommend.
1. Download SafeStrap and Chainfire's SuperSU 1.65 zip file.
2. Install the SS apk. Then open the app and Install Recovery.
3. Make sure you have the SU zip file either in your internal or external storage.
4. Reboot. You will get the splash screen after a few moments.
5. Select Recovery with the menu key.
6. Select Install from recovery, navigate to the place you stored the SuperSU zip file. Select it and swipe to install it.
7. Reboot.
The 2nd option is Flash Gordon, but I've never used it so I will not pretend to know the steps for it.
The 3rd option and I'm not certain it will work is to open the SuperSU app and select Settings. Then scroll down to the Cleanup section and select Reinstall. I believe that this will leave you rooted and allow you to then download and reinstall the binaries from Google Play, but I have not tried it so I cannot recommend it, but it would be the easiest way.

if you could install ClockworkMod Superuser and remove kingo Supersu and then reinstall SuperSU from the play store!

root and superSU

I was updating superSU on my note 3 after root. I tried to use game killer, only to get the message that root wasn't available. I loaded up superSU and was told that the binary couldn't be found... I downloaded a root checker and it said that root access was there... So I unrooted and re rooted. Same deal.
I'm not sure how to fix the issue.
Can anyone please help

Delete the apps from SU then when prompted give them permission again - like normal you will need to re-open them again and get the "Grant root access" prompt from SU...This may work, has for me everytime...

Currently I'm on stock again (downloaded from sammobile)
Every time I open superSU, it tells me there is a problem with the SU BINARY (when I was rooted. I'm not trying to use super SU unrooted lol)

Yeah, done all of that. Is there a way to manually wipe the SU binary and reinstall? The root checker app says root access is allowed
Is there another way to see if it's the SU binary or game killer having issues?

If you attempts to fix root access denied on game killer then it won't work. Gamekiller/gamecih/gameguardian doesn't work with android 4.3 and above.
I however tried gamecih with cm based rom last week & it worked

[Q] 0x0x KNOX and Towelroot success....but SU binaries issue.

Who knew it would be that simple? Towelroot has rooted my Note 3, I'm finally back with Titaniuam Backup Pro and Knox is 0x0!
Amazing.
However I've installed CF's SuperSU and it fails to update the binaries.
I've frozen KNOX in Titanium and rebooted but they still won't update.
Do I even need to update them?
Also, if I try to install CWM will that trip KNOX?

Download http://download.chainfire.eu/448/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r5.zip . Don't flash it. Unzip it. Then go to /common folder and install superuser.apk. Run SuperSU from App Drawer, and let binary to update. Now you have it working. And don't worry about disabling KNOX. Just disable it.
By flashing CWM you will trip knox.

Fantastic. thank you Alex. That worked perfectly. As you're in the know I'll ask you another question (or two)!
Because I don't want to trip knox I won't install CWM. As such I can't make a nandroid backup. I want to install the xposed framework and Wanam modules...but it strongly recommends a backup. Is it risky for me to do this?
Any idea what happens when an OTA update is release by Samsung?

Actually you can make nandroid backup without costume recovery. Just use Online Nandroid Backup. It makes nandroid backup in CWM or TWRP formats.
And then you can use Nandroid Manager to restore your backup. Although I still can't figure it out on how to restore a backup if you soft brick you phone.

Now you can install SuperSU from play store as it was updated and now it should update binaries without a problem. Install SuperSU, open it, press "update binaries", use "normal" method (not CWM/TWRP), when it will ask you to disable knox, press "disabled knox" and then reboot.
I'm having a similar issue that's pretty frustrating. I root my phone and install supersu, asks to disable knox and everything works great until about a day after, I try to open Supersu and it says I need to update binaries but it will not update. So I have to uninstall supersu, root again then install Supersu again! Right now it's working fine but I'm scared to open Supersu in fear that it will happen all over again. It's been a pain! I even tried flashing the supersu zip through Safestrap to see if it helps but it did the same thing. Is anyone having a similar issue or can anyone help with this?

As far as I understand, it disables software part of knox, so it (knox) wont prevent you to update binaries. Anyway it won't trip knox.

It works at first but after a reboot it says "Update binary files" So i do that and then it says "Failed" I have the verizon Note 3 on 4.4.2. I found a temp fix for this when having issues with binary update. You don't have to re-root your phone.
1. Save the apk super su to your phone.
2. After having problems with binary then uninstall the supersu app from your phone
3. Install the supersu apk using "ES File Explorer" Then load the app it'll still say failed.
4. Reboot the phone and open up Supersu and you won't get the binary issue
I know its annoying work around but its what i have figured out and it works.
Guys, can you help with 2 questions please?
I have a I9505 with 4.4.2 branded rom (ZTO) with towel root (know still 0x0) and disable OTA updates, I can't find a perfect custom rom (always a feature not working, missing or the interface it's a mess/colorfull), now I just want the stock unbranded rom.
1 - What is the safest way to flash the stock rom without trip knox?
2- After that, can I enable back OTA updates with root?
Thanks!

Download http://download.chainfire.eu/448/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r5.zip . Don't flash it. Unzip it. Then go to /common folder and install superuser.apk. Run SuperSU from App Drawer, and let binary to update. Now you have it working. And don't worry about disabling KNOX. Just disable it.
By flashing CWM you will trip knox.

I downloaded SuperSU from the link your provided, copied just the superuser.apk from /common folder to my Note 3 and then install.
Run SuperUser, which asked to disable KNOX (I clicked OK). KNOX disabled.
However, there is no prompt for the binary update. Am I doing anything wrong?
you could also flash the zip with mobile odin pro (available in play store)

Wouldn't this require TWRP? I don't have that, since installing TWRP will trip KNOX.

and i just told u another method man...
i am not tired of it, i enjoy helping people, giving back support i once recieved myself when i was a noob
but if i post something, you should read it, and maybe you are even smart enough to type in "mobile odin pro" in that play store instead of just commenting - if you had done that, you'd have seen that no custom recovery is required for flashing

Thanks a bunch, it did. However I'm having trouble replacing the chinese SU program with SuperSU. It keeps failing when it tries to update the binary. May I ask if you had the same issue? And also, which custom recovery did you install onto yours? I see that both CWM and TWRP do not support this tab, so I'm a little stumped as to how to proceed.

Replacing KingUser with SuperSU

Hi all, I just want to share this. Regarding to Kinguser cant be replace by SuperSU, I just solve this issue. But, I want to make it clear,
I FOUND THIS METHOD ACCIDENTALLY(by experimenting).
I just got Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos I9082, with home button not functioning. So I cant root it by custom recovery, which made me use Iroot(known as Vroot), 1 click rooting app. It will root using Kinguser binary. Which will give problem to replace it with SuperSU. Then install busybox.
So I reroot my phone using KingO root which will install SuperSU v2.02. I guest this is the point where SuperSU bin get hook in device(I tried installing various ver of SuperSU without success,"Installing Failed". And KingUser give perm to SuperSU using KingO root method.
So I go into SuperSU, install as system, reboot, install custom recovery, install SuperSU.zip thru recovery, reboot, uninstall KingUser(it will warn this will unroot your device back to normal, i just ignore and proceed), and this will erase SuperSU app too, but I guest it leave the binary installed. And again I reinstall SuperSu in normal way, with success.
And again, I'm not telling the best solution, just want to share what I've done. Hope this will help someone.
Good Day
I try to replace King User with the Terminal Emulator Method, and King User gone, but it unroot mi device
I have a Samsung i8200L.
After, I re-root my device (now with Kingo Root, thanks for mention it in your thread), and everything is ok, with SuperSU

Easiest method that worked for me!
Use es file explorer
change permision to /system/bin to rw, tick all
run updated supersu, it will ask to update su binary, use the normal option
Kinguser will ask permission from SuperSu, DENY!
Then you can successfully remove kinguser

I'm assuming you used SSU 2.49? As Chainfire said, he made this mostly for lollipop comparability, also for Kinguser replacements issues.
And thanks for sharing the workaround you've figured.

Hope this will work
Worked on Galaxy S3 NEO ( GT-I9300I ) Android 4.4.4
The Steps that worked for me are as follows:
Start from HERE
1. Same steps untill SuperSu installed
2. When SuperSu launched itself (or you can launch it manually ) , it
will ask to update SU Binary, Click Normal.
3. Wait until SuperSu says other user management app detected (in my
case) and will ask you to remove it. Click cancel ( very important ).
4. When you Click Cancel, it will say Binary updated Successfully. And
will ask you to Reboot or OK. Click OK ( very important ) and not to
Reboot.
5. Now SuperSu will open normally but KingUser app will still be present
( in my case).
6. Now go to Settings in SuperSu App and Go to Clean Up options and
there you will find an option to remove other User Managemnt apps, just
click the option and Boom SuperSu will remove it completely from your
System.
Hope this will work for someone else also.
2nd Method:
Just simply install SuperSu from Play Store and follow the above steps
from Number 2 onwards. (Confirm if it works for you)
