is it supposed to be cropped like that? seems like it's cutting off some of the animations like it isn't at the phone's screen size.

Elaborate?
Comparing to some YouTube videos shown the animation mine shows the whole thing zoomed in and slanted. I can definitely tell when it shows the text. I'm wondering if it might be Purity ROM or Franco kernel doing it but it definitely looks like a graphics issue happening. I tried another kernel so it isn't that. I may need to reinstall my ROM or something but I'm betting it's just me.
Weird because the purity boot animation looked fine

It's the untouched bootanimation.zip taken from the developer preview image. It should work fine. A ROM or kernel won't affect how the bootanimation is displayed. Try redownloading.
Yeah. I'm still looking into it. From another thread it looks like others are experiencing the same thing. By any chance, what ROM are you guys using where it looks good?
...and yes, ROM or kernel could affect the display. It's during boot. I've seen commits in the past saying stuff about optimized png's so I dunno.
The purity boot animation is a bunch of jpegs and this one is a bunch of png files so there's a difference there. I'm going to see if I can find another boot animation comprised of png's and see if that is the key.

I've never heard of such an issue like yours, the only issue I've had with bootanimations is if it's a combination of .png files along with being full-res (1080p rather than cropped), then it might lag at times.
me it has replaced my animation a lousy blue Android logo

I don't see much of a performance improvement (I don't think there should be one, either), though if you do wipes anyway you're going to avoid a lot of slowdowns.
Shame about the new boot animation, though. I kinda dug the colorfulness of the last one. This is a little too bluish, wooshy, scifi looking, like a wonky portal effect from 10 years ago. Reminds me of the unfortunate tastes that gave the mod community a few too many Matrix themes.

You can change the boot animation back to the old one if you want to. The new alpha-5 boot animation caused me to have a seizure so I found the bootanimation.zip file and replaced the new one with the old one lol
Just get the bootanimation.zip file from one of the previous versions of CM9 (/system/media) and replace.

It's crazy what these guys have done.. I don't know if I could even replace my Epic 4G with anything that's out right now.. We have the only qwerty device on Android 4 on the planet.. ICS, Wimax, and an Overclocked hummingbird makes this phone arguably better than the Droid 4..

I've been looking for those settings all over the place. No matter how much I fiddled around with it, I couldn't get that "tile" look.
Mind sharing the settings please?
I think that was the old Youtube version. You can download-then-sideload it from here:
http://www.androiddrawer.com/7215/download-youtube-4-1-47-app-apk/#.UScS71dc5tM
(just un-install your current version).
From version 4.2.16, youtube changed to the current look. So just try the 4.1.47 version.

My cousin just bought the Nexus10. Its youtube app look just like the screenshot. Too bad he doesn't want to root so I don't think I can pull the apk out.
But I will check the version# to see what the difference. Anyway the old v4.1.47 will give the same look and should work just as good (I'm running it on my TF101).

SO.. I guess it came with the old youtube apk --> if anyone likes the old look, just use the old version then. Nothing to do with DPI.
You know, like in MIUI v5? Is there any ziptheme mod, or does anyone know what do I have to edit to have those icons on the left side of the staus bar?
Thanks in advance.

Great find
I found something similiar, involved editing xml files after decompiling sytemUI, but for an older Android version, so it didn't work. I will decompile his file and check for differences.
I'm currently working on modifying the systemUI.xml of my PA rom which should work on most AOSP roms. I'm trying to adjust icon dimensions to allow for a larger signal strength icon to simulate the new ios7 dot style signal strength icon. Not that relevant... But while I'm there I'll see if I can't make a simple switch sides mod.
Make a paint image or something or find a screen shot of exactly what you want or what side and such. I don't want to forget icons.

You can try an xposed theme if you haven't already. Some of these will change the dialer. It will also theme other stuff so that may be good or bad depending on your taste.
If interested, check the xtheme thread in the Android Theme section.

UPDATE 5/04:
Added two new Pokemon bootanimations: Charizard & horsea + added a Zelda bootanimation!
*UPDATE 4/26:
I have edited the Dratini boot animation to allow it to show Dragonite just a little bit longer now, and I believe the fps is also been dropped from 40, to 30. The picture has also been updated. Enjoy.

In the zip there's a file named desc.txt Open that and modify it to your resolution and slow down the fps. I recommend zarchiver to unzip, modify, and repackage. Other archive programs repackage it wrong where the boot animation won't work.
