Hello,
I've recently bought a ZTE open with FirefoxOS.
For me the keyboard is too small for my fingers. Is there anyway to increase the size? Or install an app for an alternative keyboard? I had a quick look on marketplace but found nothing.
Also I set up my academic email with the stock email client but it doesn't work, even with manual set up. I suspect it's because of SSL not being enabled. Are there any email clients that allow chaning SSL settings?
After swapping my sim card into the new phone, some of my contacts have not been imported. Before you ask, yes these were stored on the sim and not the phone. Strangely, my new contactslist has contacts that I have deleted in the past and the old names of contacts I have since changed.
What version of FirefoxOS is your Open running?
The keyboard isn't all that small, the problem is actually that the keyboard is really inaccurate in V1.1, slightly improved in v1.2, and gets progressively better as the versions go up. The keyboard (same size) on v2.1 is a joy to use, but still no match for a physical QWERTY keyboard.
What type of email is your academic email? Mine is using Google Apps (Gmail), and after manual setup, it works fine. You can set up the SSL settings right in the email client.
Sounds like your old phone was saving your changed contacts to the internal memory and not the SIM.

It's based on outlook and uses outlook servers. Automatic config does not work. Tell me, where can I set the SSL settings?

I guess this may be because the SIM reached the limit for contacts. So I guess I could delete some contacts and then copy them to the SIM.
And thanks for the help.

ZTE Open for US or EU?
You'll need to download the official ZTE Open v1.1 ROM for your version (US or EU) that says it is for v1.0
This thread has a nice guide:
https://hacks.mozilla.org/2013/12/upgrading-your-zte-open-to-firefox-os-1-1/
If you want to go beyond v1.1, ZTE has developer pre-release version of v1.2 that mostly works okay.
Beyond that, things start to break and you're more or less on your own. There are no official final versions after v1.1, so you'll have to compile your own from source, or flash a pre-compiled version from someone else.
Check this thread here for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2587484

There should be a little text that says manual configuration. On v1.1 and above you can change the SSL settings, but I'm not sure what version brought support for Exchange Active Sync, if your server is using that instead of IMAP.

No problem.
Is it possible to go from version 1.00 to 1.2?
Or do you have to go from 1.0 to 1.1 and then 1.2?

It might be possible, but you could run into issues because ZTE was supposed to unlock the bootloader during the v1.1 update series.
I'd step through from v1.0 to v1.1 and then to v1.2.
Once you've done that, you can do whatever
Tried updating to 1.1
When appling the update, I get this error:
"signature verification failed", searched online and there doesn't seem to be a solution. And yes, I am using the correct region firmware.
That isn't right. I got that when I didn't download the v1.1 (for v1.0) update on my device when I first started. I had to go v1.0, v1.1, v1.2, and then from there.
Also, make sure you don't muck with the zip at all after you download it. No unzipping, no editing the contents, nothing.
We have same type of signature errors on open C, using custom recovery should help as signature checking can be turned off.

How do I use custom recovery?
No, but I had to download the proper v1.1 update (designed to be flashed over v1.0 firmware), in order to not get the signature verification failed message.
Read these two carefully. One will only flash over v1.0 base, one will only flash over v1.1 base.
http://www.ztedevices.com/support/smart_phone/b5a2981a-1714-4ac7-89e1-630e93e220f8.html
CWM you have to flash over your recovery partition. I found it wouldn't flash any of the stock ROMs for my Open successfully with signature verification On/Off, so I removed it.

Right, I tried to flash this ROM :
OPEN(American Standard) SD card upgrading instruction & software package(ebay)-237620B0669OPEN_US_DEV_FFOS_V1.1.0B02(for V1.0)
Because I have a V 1.0 base. When I tried to flash it I got this error about asserting getprop. I searched online and found this solution:
http://pof.eslack.org/2013/07/05/zte-open-firefoxos-phone-root-and-first-impressions/#comment-1773
This involved modifying the updater script. Surprisngly, this didn't work because now I get the signature verification error I was getting with the other ROM.
Is there a way to turn off signature verification? Or to fix the getprop error?
--
EDIT:For anyone wondering, the error was because I was trying to flash the wrong firmware version.

new opera mini 4.1 is out.....but the new version allways asks for net access...anyone fix this?
thanx
No signature!
You can download a signed version - open the mini.opera.com from your phone and choose the link "If this version fails to install or you would like to install a previous version, click here" - there are signed versions of 4.1 there (the multiple certificate version works for me).
After using the signed version, you'll have no more problems with permissions (you'll be able to choose "always allow net access").

Yes - the beta installs as "Opera Mini 4.1" - so that it won't overwrite the official one.
The one downloaded in the "other versions" install as "Opera mini" - so it will update any existing official versions. In its info in jbed, the version is listed as 4.1 - so it seems to be the official one.
[Edit]
Version number listed in help/about of new unsigned opera (default download) is: 4.1.11313
Version number of the new signed 4.1 (downloaded from "other versions" page): 4.1.11313
Version number of 4.1 beta: 4.1.10781
So both downloads are definitely the same (new) version.

Where did you find this version? I find myself stuck with the unsigned version, and it's a hassle unlike any other (Using Touch Dual - Norwegian).
i have the unsigned one and somewhere on this forum i found the instructions on what to edit and where to stop it asking. If i remember correctly it required Hex editing a file from the PPC on my PC and copying it back.
i will post the link if i can find it again.
Found it:

The link to other versions of opera mini is right under the main link (in bold text) to normal (unsigned) version download.
At least it is there if your phone model can't be identified (like it happened on my wizard). But even if the phone is recongnixed, yoy should have a link leading to other versions. It just might be described as "previous versions" - which isn't entirely true, since there are both newest signed 4.1 versions, and old 3.0 on the linked page
@deedee - all this editing is only necessary only for unsigned versions of midlets. If you download a signed version, then jbed (and any other JVM) will allow to set permissions permanently, with no file editing needed.

That's kind of why I was asking, because there's nothing like that when I open it. It doesn't recognize it as the Touch Dual even, just as Touch, and it's in Norwegian, so I assume there's a difference.
And it keeps calling it untrusted. I have no idea what's going on >:/

1. Strange for WM there're no signed versions. For Symbian, there are. I'll elaborate on the issue in an article and will try to provide a link to the version Symbian phones are offered.
2. it's preferable to start threads like this in the General forum (where there is another OM4.1 thread).
@Morghus - try the file attached in the post - international version, signed with multiple certificates. It's just a .jad file, so you'll still need to be connected to the internet to install the program.
I got this file by going to mini.opera.com with... Opera Mini
Do you have a french version signed ?
Thank
edit : because my phone is not detected
Come on, the download website isn't that hard to navigate...
Even if your phone isn't detected, and a 3.1 download is proposed, you can still choose to download the 4.1 version [attachment 1]. This will get you to the 4.1 download page, where you can choose a different language [attachment 2] and once chosen, you can see other available versions - the second link marked in [attachment 2] will get you to page shown in [attachment 3], where you can get the 4.1 signed. Is it really that hard to figure out?
ok cool

This is NOT for those on 2.1 leak. It is ONLY for those on 1.5 Stock or 2.1 OTA OS version.
This is a Windows Only version. We are porting it to JAVA now for cross platform compatibility.
Major update - Re Uploaded the App
We have brought back the Eris Master App as the Android Master App. It has a new name in preparation for support for more Android devices. We are working on fixing the XP bug where files wont download. Until we get a full fix working, DO NOT USE IF YOUR ON WINDOWS XP Stay tuned for updates. We have also included an Error Log handling feature. If there are any errors, it will try to automatically send us an email with the log file. If it cannot send us the email, the log file will pop up for you so you can get in contact with us and send us the log so we can fix the issue.
Again, if you are on Windows XP, DO NOT USE. We have been getting a lot of email logs from those on XP, and we know its not working, so dont bother wasting your time trying to see if it works.
Download the application from here: http://tinyurl.com/2doknnb then run the self extracting .exe zip file, and let it extract to its default location, which is c:\AMA\ then go into the folder there and run the application. Select a ROM to download, and the Root Image, and Recovery Image, then start the downloads.
If you need any support, it is always available on the IRC server.
You can also follow us on Twitter: www.twitter.com/THE_ECLIPS3
Check the thread and the IRC server for updates.
ECLIPS3 and Jamezelle
- Fixed files not downloading in windows XP a little bit more, full fix in works
- Fixes a few minor bug fixes
- Streamlined the code more
This App is being worked on by ECLIPS3 and Jamezelle
We are now on Google Code. Please visit the page here to let us know of any bugs / errors you get while using the app. It is not meant to help you solve your problem there. That is what this thread or our IRC server is for. The IRC server login info is at the bottom of my signature. A web based IRC server is available through this link.
On step 2, when you get to the part of doing the update. our app will tell you to push volume up to start update. you might also have to push the trackball in as well. the link will say <action> YES. push trackball in to start update.
- Market updates for apps. (coming soon)
We have figured out how to restore apps, and restore market update links, need to roll it into the app, but it is possible. We might even have a way to restore links for those non root. Any other app that does market update links requires root first to backup the links.
UPDATE 5/5/2010
Version 2.1 (released 5/5/2010)
Files are now hosted on http://android.grdlock.net
-Fixed where app wont upload custom rom to phone
-New download links for files
-Ability to download roms via app, instead of including them
-Choose what rom to install easier
-Download of ROOT Image instead of including it
-Progress bar for downloads
-Splash Image install
-Cleaned up a lot of the code
-Many bug fixes
-Made user interaction a lot more friendly
-Fix device not found in app.
-Check if phone is connected to PC. If not, setup will not continue.
-Fixed spelling issue.
We have now finished the core of the Application. What it consists of is a GUI (Graphical User Interface) to make going from 1.5 stock to 2.1 root with a custom ROM installed. There is also an easy way to reboot your phone, enter the recovery mode, and enter the bootloader mode. Finally the third part available in this release is a way to backup all of your applications along with restoring all of them. Currently this is root only. We do have an update coming to backup apps for non root.
For rooting there is a 4 step process. Just go through the steps, one at a time and make sure you read and pay attention to the instructions.
We will be adding more functionality and options to this application. Stay tuned for future updates. If there is an update, just re download the whole app.
Please let us know of any bugs or options you would like to see in the application and we will do what we can to add those in or fix those bugs.
Prereq's for using the application:
You must have Microsoft .NET version 4. Direct Download Link
Then also download the drivers file. Unzip it to your desktop. Follow these instructions on how to install a driver. Select have disc, then navigate to your desktop, inside the corresponding folder, and continue the prompts.
Requests
- Support for other android phones.
- Save Layout and Scenes. (Working on now)
- backup apps for those NOT ROOTED (Have it working. need to roll it into an update)
- Restore email settings for Gmail and HTC Mail (Working on now)
- Download speed for file downloads
- Boot andimations (new name for animations)
- Progress bar for copying files to sdcard
So i tried this out and it works great. It is a really nice addition to the anyones android tool set.
I did notice that once i reinstalled all apps it did take quite a long time to load all of them again... 5 minutes. That was ok though because it saved me alot more time from having to download and install all of them again. I did i reboot too just to make sure.
Thanks a lot for this script!

Thanks for your feedback. I am working on creating a standalone application for backing up the apps, reinstalling, rebooting, rebooting into bootloader and recovery. It will also be able to install the bootanimation files amongst other things. hopefully i will be able to have it do the rooting process as well. though im not sure how often that will be used considering most have already rooted their phones. if some people would like to vote on those options and let me know what they want as well as requests for other features that would be great.
bootanimation is good and boot image logo like in here, maybe?

Thats not necessarily true, because 'all people' aren't trolling the internet like we are all the time.
So im sure there are people that dont even know we have root access on the eris. I bet there are also a ton of people that dont know what root is and even how to go about it, so an automated system would be a great addition.
Most of the world is not technology oriented. Think of (most)Best Buy shoppers.. hahah (i used to sell computers there) They look for someone to 'deal' with the tech for them.

the rom you ported, its a hero rom? thats probably why because i have found that roms that have been ported from other devices have issues with my scripts, which is because of how the rom and its core are built. will try and add that functionality at some point.

Ok..sorry Sir!
Hey guys,
First and foremost, I would like to say I have no idea about anything, and everything on this website is in a foreign language to me (can't understand anything), so please bear with me. I set up a new thread because after reading everything, I still don't get anything (being a noob).
I just signed up with vodaphone in australia to get a HTC Legend (my first android and smart phone after using n73 for the last 3years). Everything is going fine until I wanted to get apps from the android market. I didnt have a gmail account, so I signed up for one through my computer. However, when i tried signing in through the phone google account set-up wizard, after waiting 5mins for the phone to communicate with google servers, it fails and the phone would not let me, citing that it cant establish a reliable data connection to the server, being a temporary problem (Tried it with both 3G and wi-fi, also with 2 other friend's log-in). Any help on this would be good. Also, with HTC sync 3.0, I was unable to sync and backup all my sms for a factory reset. Is there any other ways to do this without the apps? Additionally, I cannot update my software to Froyo (Firmware 2.2) FOTA or finding a download for it onto my comp as the phone says my software is up-to-date (But HTC Australia shows that there is an update for Software 2.2 FOTA).
Alright, I know what goes through your mind, get the apps to do that, but without the sign-up for gmail settings, I cant access Market, cant download apps, basically cant do anything (and mind you, I dont know about programming or xda or anything of that sort to check the shell script or whatever that goes on in the forum).
I've went around looking for answers but never really got a definition, mostly about how-to's which I am not interested as I have no idea what they are.
What is flashing?
What is rooting?
What is un-branded or Vodaphone branded (in my case, if it makes sense)?
What is a goldcard and what's it for?
Is RUU or custom rom or rom the same thing? does that have to do with my firmware? and what is it?
What's with downgrading and upgrading for other stuff (to versions 1.1/1.3)?
What is Clockwork and Fastmode and all those other stuff?
What's the latest firmware/software for Legend (2.2 or 3.0) as I have read threads with firmware 1.3 or 3.3 (or something of that sort)?
I know I AM the biggest noob you guys will ever find. Seriously, no websites actually explain all these stuff, and I'm getting paranoid over using an android phone. I know you guys might just tell me to get a simpler phone, but I upgraded to an android to know more about it.
Thanks in advance guys, if any help can be provided. I have a cool phone, but I wanna use it fully.
Regards,
William

Hmm, I got that once before. If there's a different wifi network that you can get access to, try that.

There are apps on the market, if you can sort the issue above then check those out.

Yes, some users still haven't received the update. A debrand will help

Alright, I know what goes through your mind, get the apps to do that, but without the sign-up for gmail settings, I cant access Market, cant download apps, basically cant do anything (and mind you, I dont know about programming or xda or anything of that sort to check the shell script or whatever that goes on in the forum).

You are correct, I have said about apps. If you temproot using visionary you can install Titanium backup which can backup everything. Both of these are available for "sideloading". Without a file manager on your phone I can't think of an easy way to install them. What I'd do is go to the settings, make sure USB debuging is on (Settings --> applications --> development) and then use adb to install it:
Code:
adb devices
adb install Visionary.apk
adb install Titanium-Backup.apk
This is assuming that you rename the files to Visionary and Titanium-Backup, and have them in the same directory as ADB. For an easy installation of ADB do this:
Download this file and unzip it to C:\Android\ADB\
Open cmd (start orb/button, type "cmd" and hit enter)
In cmd do this:
Code:
cd C:\Android\ADB
Now you can use the adb command listed above. If you have the apk files in the same folder you can pretty much copy-paste those commands

Flashing is the process of writing a new operating system to NAND (internal) memory, otherwise known as flash memory
Rooting is like gaining administrator rights on a Windows PC. On Unix-like systems (Android, Linux, OSX) this is known as the root account, hence "rooting"
Vodafone branded means that Vodafone has it's logos and apps on there. Think of the ROM on your phone as a custom ROM, made by Vodafone. You need to wait for Vodafone to update it. Un-branded simply mean that all of that is gone, it's like having the ROM that HTC meant for it. So we only need to wait for HTC to update it
A goldcard is an SD card that has been specially prepared for making the phone think it's CID is different. I don't fully understand how it works, all we need to know is that it does, and that we need one for rooting
ROM and firmware are the same thing RUU is "ROM Upgrade Utility". It's a method made by HTC for upgrading the phones firmware. A custom ROM is simply a ROM that's been customised. It may be based on the official ROM from HTC, or the open source version of Android
ClockworkMOD is an open source recovery image. It allows us to do full backups of the NAND memory (nandroid backup), as well as easily installing new ROMs/updates. These come in zip files Fastboot is a way to test stuff quickly. It allows you to flash certain parts of a ROM without the need to flash the whole thing, as well as boot from a kernel that isn't flahed to the device. It's a dev thing
The latest version of Android for the Legend (officially) is 2.2. HTC firmwares follow a different numbering scheme. HTC ROMs v. 1.x and 2.x are based on Android 2.1, and v. 3.x is based on 2.2

Hello her last day i got a new legend and it was black and it looks like my old htc hero
Below is a Mail.apk with exchange pin security disabled for Sense 3.5. This is for those who use exchange support who hate entering a pin every time they want to unlock their phone. Many HTC users use corporate exchanges that don't require a pin, yet HTC does not have an option to shut off the pin security. This is the solution. Also, this is only for Sense 3.5. If you are looking for a Sense 3.0 Mail.apk look here.
DISCLAIMER: If your place of employment's exchange policy requires the use of a pin, please be advised that use of this Mail.apk may be punishable up to termination of employment, as well as other possible legal action. This is only for those whose policy does not require a pin. I have also published a flashable StockMail.zip below which will get you back to stock (which includes pin security) if you run into any issues.
Only the pin security is disabled with this mod. All other EAS security (such as remote wipe, etc) is left fully intact.
INSTRUCTIONS (it's also never a bad idea to make a nandroid backup first):
For the Mail.apk
1) Download the attached Mail.apk
2) Mount the system as R/W (either using Root Explorer or 'adb remount')
3) Copy the new Mail.apk to system/app via root explorer and overwrite the older file when it asks, or push the file to system/app via adb
4) Set permissions as rw-r--r--
5) Reboot
6) After reboot, open up the Mail app and set up your exchange account all the way through naming the account, then hit 'Finish Setup'
7) You will be prompted to enable security policy... this is normal so hit 'OK'
8) You will get to another screen asking you to activate security policies... again, this is normal so select 'Activate'. From here on out you will never be prompted to enter a pin
For the PatchedMail.zip
1) Download the .zip and toss it on your SD card
2) Reboot into recovery
3) Install the .zip then reboot
4) Follow steps 6-8 above
If you have issues, try completely removing all your email accounts before installing. You can also try wiping cache in recovery.
NOTE: This only works with Sense 3.5, it will not work if trying to flash over the Sense 2.0/1 Mail.apk or the Sense 3.0 Mail.apk
Enjoy

Mail.apk is for those who want to do it all manually with a root file explorer or adb and set permissions.
The PatchedMail.zip contains the exact same apk, but will do it for you automatically in recovery instead of you having to do it all manually.
The last "stock" file is also a flashable zip you can flash in recovery that will get you back to stock in case you ever want to get rid of the mod.
eschelon this works great and I am not going to change it....
Just curious to know if previously I have a custom icon for the mail that was not the white mail envelope icon (default) in the notification window....then replacing it with your sweet mail.apk file I lost that custom notification icon... where is the break that causes that...?
Just for knowledge I am keeping your file...? Thx my friend

Any chance you can make this for the AOSP Email app? I'm running CM7 and don't think this will work.
With sense 3.5 i get message saying the device does not support encryption when i try to connect to my exchange server. I don't get this with Sense 3.0. Is this something that can be removed too?
I loaded InfectedROM Eternity and noticed it also bypasses the PIN requirement and allowed me to access my company exchange server without any problem. In my case I do not want to bypass the PIN due to our security policy so I loaded your "StockMail.apk" to return to stock however after reboot I get an error when adding the exchange account. I researched and found the following corrected the issue (text from my other thread).
Corrective actions for Exchange email after loading a HTC Sense 3.5 based ROM on an HTC Thunderbolt. I am currently using InfectedROM Eternity (with the stock mail.apk) but had the same issue with other ROMS. This probably is the same for any of the newer ROM's. My IT guy said others within the company had similar problems after buying a Sprint phone with newer ROM. Although there seems to be many reasons different phones will not work with exchange mail our particular problem was related to how the newer email.apk with stronger security integration reacts with exchange server. I noticed once setting up the ROM it would error after setting the PIN. The policy warning "details" read something to the effect "Remote Computer Access" required. I had our IT create a policy for me that included “Allow Internet Sharing from the device” and “Allow Remote desktop from the device”. This corrected the problem and all works fine now. It is likely only "Allow Remote desktop from the device" is required.
As I mentioned before the InfectedROM Eternity has a modified email.apk which does not require a PIN. This version will work (no PIN required) before the changes were made to our exchange server. I want to stay within our security policy so I downloaded a copy of "Stockmail.zip" onto the SD card, booted into recovery and loaded the zip file to overwrite the modified mail.apk file. Once the exchange server policy settings were changed all worked fine. My only concern is the IT guy will start freaking out and want to change me back to the other policy settings. I have searched but cannot find any modified version of the mail.apk that would correct just the remote access issue but leave the PIN requirement in place. Any help to find such a version or guidance on how to modify the mail.apk would be much appreciated.

Why don't you just do a complete flash to another country ROM? Check below link for how to.

Could not he odin a ROM from TW? Just a thought.

Can anybody please help me with download link for any good ROM? And is there any possibility to flash ROM right from tablet?

I am so lost with all this Hong Kongese writing...
I want it all english!
I've sorted it, it's ok now, went to the settings and guessed my way through it
Dammit, I went ahead and flashed the google apps from links provided and NOW I get setupwizard force close loop ... so depressed, tried ADB shell to remove / uninstall and NO GO -- can't SU or delete anything now. Now that my 'system' is screwed-up I can't even factory reset... Just pissed. Any help?
EDIT:: well, this is the right stock ROM and I just flashed thru ODIN and my tablet is alive again: http://115.com/file/an40wd58#P6800ZCKL4.exe
The first thing I was presented with when I first time turned my 7.7 on was a language selection. It was, coming from HK, set to Chinese but in the drop down I could easily choose English. Is that any different from other versions.

OK, would like the definitive answer on getting market access and adding google account to this tab -- I did some magic I did before on China SGS2 (use TB to restore market and google as content provider) but it does not work on the P6800. Help?
EDIT: ok, I grabbed the backups from my acer A500 (also obviously honeycomb) and restored latest (3.21) market, google services framework, and google partner setup), but market just FC on me when I pick 'add account to this device'. Any suggestions?
I continue to f*** with this beautiful Chinese device. (Will never buy samsung products again, really). But I have bought this so for 2 or more years will use it.
I would like to reflash it, downloaded P6800XXLA4_CSC_AUT.exe firmware and tried using heimdall-frontend under GNU/Linux.
It says that firmware.xml is missing and do not want to start flashing process.
OK I thought and launched command line:
sudo heimdall flash --factoryfs ./factoryfs.img
It says:

Setting up interface...
Checking if protocol is initialised...
Protocol is not initialised.

Handshaking with Loke...
ERROR: Failed to receive response!
So I cannot go any further with flasing process.
