I recently received the ota 4.3 update for my at&t gs4, but I've been dying to try cyanogen mod on my phone or at least be able to remove a little bloatware. Could anyone point me to a tutorial somewhere to root this thing if it's possible yet? I do have a little experience with flashing roms and rooting with my old samsung replenish, but only with odin... thanks.
-EDIT Also is kingo really malware like many people on xda say? And does kingo work with the new MJ9 build for AT&T's S4?
If you have a little experience flashing Roms than you'll be experienced in the art of Google search. There are many threads about this already

Works the same for att even though its for verizon. Same root method but beware it could add malicious stuff to your phone and computer. Do a little researching first before you do anything. Good luck

And even when your rooted there is still no custom recovery for 4.3...so no rom flashes are possible

Maybe. When someone smarter than I am comes up with a way to unlock the bootloader or other exploit.

Thanks for the link to the tutorial. I've been looking stuff up about vroot and apparently it contains some sort of trojan... I also read a comment on YouTube where someone with the at&t MJ9 build had success with it but what are the risks other than bricking?
Does anyone know if there's a legit way to root s4 i337 MK2? I keep getting conflicting info.
I tried Kingo Root yesterday. So far it seems to be working great. During the process, I received several pop ups to install software that was considered potentially harmful. I cancelled each install and was still able to gain successful root. While prices was simple and took about 5 minutes.

In the mf3 thread they said kingo is not recommended. Is there a reason it's not? I used kingo on mf3 and if it works on mk2 without problems I'd like to use again as I don't need custom recovery or roms. But I'm afraid of att updating again and it screwing my phone,
At one point, it had malicious code in it that grabbed personal data.

Jeesh. It worked so well too. Wish it could be reversed engineered to see what they did to root.
To answer your question, No there is no verified safe method to root MK2 if you are not already rooted prior to update.

Do you know if anyone is working on a root for this update?
Kingo works for MK2. I can confirm it worked with no added instability or apparent issues on the 2 I337 devices I've messed with. But is it reliable? Well, it does send your IMEI to a Chinese server for some unknown reason. You can try Vroot if you want but it's definitely not as 'user friendly' if you catch my drift.

XDA evidently considers Kingo malware, so no link from here. But just type "kingo galaxy s4 root" into Google and it should be the top result. Their website states that it is for the i9500, but it has been confirmed for the i337. As always, USE THIS PROCEDURE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
We have a safe new root method if you guys want to try it. This is confirmed working on the VZW S4 but should work for you guys too. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48392009

Hi i was just wondering if there has been a root method for the 4.4.2 OTA update. I updated a few weeks back and have been dying for root access.
The baseband version is N900VVRUCNC4.
Thanks in advance!

Im sure there will be in time?
Would we be able to downgrade thru Odin and then root and then flash rooted version of 4.4.2?

Doubt it...most of the devs that might be capable moved on from Verizon and really do not care. The reason being soon as a exploit is found and released it then is patched by the next update. It's a cat and mouse game not worth playing. There are methods out there that allow you have rooted 4.4.2, The sticky at the top of this section explains it all. "Never Accept OTA Updates".

No The Verizon N3 is model N900V and this article deals with the UK model N900
Also, in the UK the status of the Knox warranty counter doesn't matter. In the US it does.
