[Q] 900V- now on At&t - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey. Hope the general forum is the right place to shoot this question and I haven't seen anyone else ask as far as i can tell. But
I have the Verizon model and I did root it with the make it rain (w00t) but beyond that haven't done anything else. Long story short. I did get a domestic at&t sim to work in it and it does seem to work at h+ speeds (like 3.5g) and is a happy stable phone with the APNs all put in blah blah blah. Happy working at&t verizon bastard hybrid. So to the question. Is there any way to clear the 'PHONE ACTIVATION this SIM card is from an unknown source' Icon in the message tray? Any way to trick the phone that it is happy with this sim?
Any info would be great!
thanks
-Dave

[Q] Verizon S5 using straight talk att sim?

Hello all,
I bought a Verizon s5 on eBay for $250 the other day. From my reading other forums, I thought that I could just pop my straight talk sim in and it would work.
Apparently that is not the case.
After some reading, I used towel root and was able to get the hidden menus to work , but I really don't know what bands that I should try to enable?
I have a straight talk sim that is set up for an att phone (works perfectly in my S4).
Thus far the phone doesn't recognize my sim at all. It just has a circle where the signal indicator would be.
The phone arrived with a apalachian wireless sim installed and it gets full signal with that sim.
I checked the esn with swappa and it appears to be good.
Any insight would be great. I'm new to all of this and really don't know what I'm doing.

What APN are you using?
I didnt bother changing the apn because it doesnt recognize my sim. It just has a circle where the signal indicator should be.
Global mode should work fine. The issue might have something to do with the Verizon system not recognizing the ST sim card. Even though the S5 is unlocked, you might have to call VZW to see if it's a privisioning issue. You can check ESN with them too because it could be bad. Good luck and post back if/when you fine the answer.
I am running the same exact setup. Works great for me. Including mms. U should have done a factory reset before rooting. Either way. ....make sure it's in global mode under settings more networks/ network mode. Then download using WiFi since u don't have data yet, straight talk data settings from Google play store. Hit home button open data settings, follow instructions. Good luck.

[q] please helpl verizon note 3 going onto tmobile

hello I would really appreciate some help. I have scoured the interweb.....looked everywhere been to tmobile twice. called Verizon. called tmobile. im lost. I have tmobile sim...Verizon note 3 with a good esn checke 10 times 990004445758596.....bottom line is I cant get anything no signal bars my sim is good. things I have tried.
sim is good in friends phone.....friends sim dosnt work either.
I was using a note 2 from Verizon last week
I have tried multiple apn settings
I have tried gsm and global
I have reset the phone twice
I have tried towel root and chain fire unlock
I have tried calling the phone from friends phone
if I try to make a call no mobile network is found
under status on the phone my cell number shows up so it must be reading that off the sim
tried searching for network and att and tmobile do pop up under gsm tried connecting to both nothing. try again later
been to tmobile twice they no nothing more than I do.
called Verizon imei is good phone should be unlocked as are all of our 4glte phones are I was told.
also the prompt codes to bring up the menu for channel 4 I cant get any of them to work not any of them.
any help would be greatly appreciated I am currently out of work and need this phone going to survive basically. thank you in advance for any help or any of your time would be greatly appreciated.
You'd need to have it rooted and then make sure the APNs actually stick.
ok would towel root be good enough and shouldn't I get some signal bars for calls now?
not sure how I move my thread to another topic
Yeah Towel Root would work.
It shouldn't even need root for the unlock as Verizon note 3 are unlocked from factory.
All it needs is to be switched to gsm. Once it gets the carrier signal, switch back to global to get LTE. There must be another fault on your phone. Try to undo the region unlock...

[Q] gs5 unlock? us cellular

Hey guys I'm not entirely sure if this is the right section to post this but any help would be appreciated. I have a galaxy s5 that my buddy sold me and i want to unlock it, but i called for an unlock code from us cellular, and they said i have to come to a corporate store to have them connect it to their software . I don't want to do this because it's 5 hours there one way. I don't have that much time seeing as how i work 60 hours a week .... is there anything you guys know of that i can do? :/ Any help would be appreciated! If you can try to keep it easy to*understand?
Im in the same situation. I have a US Cellular Galaxy S5 that i purchased online to unlock but i havent found an unlocking website or its only for international GSM unlock. I want a domestic unlock and I live in the middle of Arizona with no US Cellular stores.
Most unlock codes don't work on CDMA-locked devices/carriers (Verizon, US Cellular, Sprint) due to how differently CDMA phones ID themselves on a network - the SIM card is essentially only used for LTE, so a SIM unlock is useless. I haven't been able to find much hard information on it, but the process (as I understand it, someone else please correct me if wrong) involves the carrier a phone is locked to unlocking the phone, removing any codes which that carrier uses to ID the phone on the network, and handing it off to you. Think of it as a reverse provisioning.
For that reason, you're pretty much got to take the phone in. USCC doesn't want you to jump on the unlock fad and accidentally hose your phone for use on their network should you just be experimenting, so actually going in and talking to them provides a nice chance to make sure you know what you're doing and want to go through with it. I also don't think they've got the auto-unlock infrastracture in place (as opposed to auto provision).
Also, keep in mind - the CDMA S5s don't use full frequency bands like the GSM ones do. This will show you which ones the USCC one uses - http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s5_cdma-6338.php - look for G900R4. You should be ok on AT&T/Cricket or T-Mobile but it looks like you'd be pretty well hosed on another CDMA carrier.

SM-G900R7 - No mobile connections, just wifi

Hello,
I came upon a G900R7. I have no idea what carrier it was originally on. But the thing is in a weird state. It doesn't seem to be locked, but it won't take a sim card from multiple carriers. AND the IMEI is not blacklisted. It comes up all green.
When you boot it without a sim card, it complains that there is no sim card. When you put a sim card in it, it just doesn't connect to ANY mobile networks. No calls, sms, data, nothing. I've reset it back to stock, rooted and added TWRP.
I know they say the R7 is from C Spire or nTelos or whatever. But I'm 95% sure it's not from one of those carriers. That carrier doesn't really exist in this area.
Anyway, if you have any ideas on how I can get this thing to get back on a network (re-format EFS or whatever) please let me know. Thanks!
If they say it belongs to C Spire or nTelos or whatever, I'd suggest testing a SIM from one of those carriers....
Yeah I've never even heard of those carriers. And I can't imagine where I would find those services, other than ordering a bunch of stuff online.
There has got to be a way to unlock this thing. From everything I've read, C Spire doesn't lock their devices. And I should be getting an unlock screen if it was locked. So I'm thinking this is a baseband/firmware issue. I mean it's like it doesn't understand what the mobile radios are doing in this phone.
I wonder if there is a way to flash all of the radios back to stop. Perhaps something is wrong with the firmware itself.
Hi! Let me know if yo solve the problem.! I have the same issue! Exactly like that! [email protected]
I have this phone and my carrier is c spire which used to be cellular south.
My friends have phones like this on Triangle Mobile.
This carrier was on a 3g only network until the end of 2015 . They then started using 4G lte but in order to get on their 4G network You have to buy a new ,overpriced phone from them . The phones my friends have , have the 4glte sticker on the back and, a sim card slot but there's no sim card in there. The carrier says they can't update or do anything to the phone that would make it work with 4glte.
Did you ever find a solution to this? I have the cspire s5 and I unlocked it. It was reading Sims for a while but for some reason now it wont and I can't figure out what I need to do to get it to read my at&t sim again.

SM-G900P on Straight Talk (AT&T)

Hi everyone,
I've been a lurker of this site for a little while now, so thank you all for your productivity and guides (If I can get this to work, I will create a guide myself to share ) I recently purchased a Brand New Sprint Galaxy S5 (SM-G900P) with the hopes of unlocking it and using it on Straight Talk AT&T's network. I've made incredible progress so far, but I feel like I'm missing something. Up to this point I've spent countless hours online reading about this device and troubleshooting it.
Current Issue: Phone will not contact any GSM network. I have the sim card in and it just says no service. I know this is only on GSM networks because I disabled all CDMA bands using DFS. All AT&T bands are active and I believe the Galaxy S5 supports almost every band available. APN Settings are set correctly.
Things I have done / tried:
Using Cyanogenmod13 KLTE ROM, Cyanogenmod12.1 SPR ROM, Unofficial CM13 SPR ROM. Also, tried using a "stock?" 4.4.4 ROM that was a little glitchy, but worked nonetheless (tried using SSU.apk here, but afterwards it seemed to sim-lock my phone by giving "Invalid SIM"
Phone unlocked with IDoneApps (no more invalid sim) IDoneApps says its for International and Domestic.
I paid for a Network Access Code and registered the phone with Straight Talk and attempted to transfer the service over (not sure if this is necessary as I am using a GSM SIM, which still works fine in my other phone, perfect service)
Also, on the stock ROM it keeps trying to "Activate the device" and won't be able to. Sometimes the phone goes into roaming and when I call it sends me to Verizon Wireless Customer Service (not sure why on this)
Phone will receive service fine when set to Automatic or CDMA LTE. If I attempt to call a phone I will get "Your account is not authorized to make calls to this phone number" with a mans voice.
-Do I need to do something with Sprint to go forward?
SOLVED IT:
Had to enable the "GCF Setting" on the phone.
YouTube Video: "How to enbale GFC settings on any Samsung Galaxy " - This guide worked flawlessly.
Now all I need to do in order to have perfect service on this SM-G900P on AT&T is to enable the rest of the AT&T LTE Bands on it.
Hey, I know this is necro'ing but I hope you are still around.....
I'm in the same situation as this post right now...I have have a SM-G900P (Sprint Galaxy S5), now activated through Straight Talk, but my data doesn't work when using CM13. I was wondering more what you mean by your GCF settings and maybe some quick tips to get 4G/LTE while on CM (Preferably 13+). Stock Rom I get LTE just fine, but for some reason it gives me this *FUGLY* Creedo mvno app suite when I do a fresh restore of stock rom, and just the whole touchwhiz thing sucks in general. I'd much prefer CM or any other custom ROM that cuts out the BS but gives me data.

no worries about necro'ing a thread, im not sure why some folks get bent out of shape about it :/ anyways, what service provider are you using via straight talk? they use all of the major 4 (vzw, at&t, tmob and sprint)
the basic answer to your question is APN settings. did you ever have data working with str8 talk? if so, your gcf settings dont need to be fiddled with, if not, then you have some tinkering to do. not at all difficult really, just some button presses

Well, the only band that identifies when I actually have a working data connection (tops I get is 3G) says Sprint. So I think that's who they're routing me through. I'm not a total rookie when it comes to this, but I don't know how to change the radio bands outside of what apps like Radio Switcher do (which actually just gives me a short cut to quasi-service mode settings in CM).
I get the cell data to read LTE on stock, but it's gross touchwiz and it never seems to get GOOD signal, two bars of LTE was the most in Milwuakee suburbs, an area I'd assume would be swimming in 4G/LTE. I'd much rather use CM for the customization (or any more "purer" android ROMS). If I select CMDA auto PRL I get a solid 3G and all voice/text/data services work. But any other option that includes LTE drops my data entirely.
Edit: I just realized I repeated myself lol. I've made a few posts on various forums about this. Kind of forgotten what info I've provided where. Sorry for the redundancy.

i dont have any experience with the sprint flavor of straight talk service, but it should be on the same LTE bands as normal sprint. shouldnt have to monkey with anything tho. ill have to look more when i get home

Ok, I reread your op and it said that you're using at&t. Are you sim unlocked? If not, Mr @stifilz, do you think you could hook this guy up? He has a proven track record of unlocking S5s
Just a heads up I'm not OP, that's @aventurer. I just happened to find a very similar situation. Probably changes your train of thought but for what it's worth in my situation, the phone sim came from Sprint originally, and the Straight Talk people said they use that sim to connect to the LTE bands.
