Has there been any more news on the follow up to the streak, I would certainly get one if its a similar package but twice as powerful as early reports claimed.
It just seems there has been no more news on the subject since the end of 2010, which is odd because initial rumors were speculating a may 2011 release.

No iPhone 5 news no other new phone news
One of my co-workers and I believe news about any really **** hot phone is in limbo until iPhone5 is announced. Although everyone states their product is better than iPhone, they always wait till Steve shows his latest toy. Which has been very quite lately; my other co-worker, who follows Apple like a lemming, is “concerned” he has not heard or read anything lately. This re-enforces mine and my close co-worker’s point of view.
Additionally, I have one other opinion and that is batteries and cell phone size. To power a dual core with accessories you need POWER and today's batteries are about the best you can get per size. So if you add more capability you need more powerful and bigger batteries. Look at the Mugen Power 4800mAh extended battery for Streak and see what it does to form factor:
http://www.streaksmart.com/2010/09/...4800mah-extended-battery-for-dell-streak.html. Do you want to carry that 24/7? Although I love my Streak (5” goodness) that is even beyond what I would think to carry.
So now you two idiots’ points of view, take them for what they are worth.....
Interesting point, so something of the streak size in dual core may need to wait for a whole new battery technology........ ****

The streak is well over 2 years old in design. They could easily keep the same form factor but have the board and microprocessors smaller inside leaving room for larger batteries. They could easily make the battery twice as thick and an inch longer with their engineering designs.
I think there is a delay because of the honeycomb issue not being for phones. They will either go with gingerbread or start at ice cream

Although I agree that they can continue to micro size cpu's and components, power is still the issue, hence now electric cars with over 300 miles distance even though 70% of the car's weight is batteries that hours to recharge. Lithium-ion is what Lithium-ion is, so size will remain constant until next generation is developed. Would look towards the military once they figure out new battery technology look out cell phone world.
Now as for OS issues didn’t think of that and you most likely are spot on and I am off base.
The battery tech is coming just not fast enough from a consumer standpoint. I was working on my phd in chemistry at colorado state (before I decided it was pointless) and a research group across the hall from mine was making these small plates with millions of nanowires perpendicular to the plate that they then coated in battery stuff (lamens terms) giving ~1000x the power density of normal batteries and more recharge cycles without losing capacity. They have a patent and are just waiting for it to become more financially feasible from an engineering standpoint...And that's just at CSU, there are plenty of better schools out there with probably even better tech that are also waiting for a better engineering methods.
I also think they are waiting to sell x amount before commuting to the next model. Right now with the thunderbolt android is now mainstream and everyone wants one more then an iPhone. The streak is above adequate for now... but from a year from now. Not so much

I'm really liking the Streak, but I kind of miss the screen size of my Galaxy Tab. If I can have the Galaxy Tab screen size (7") with the Streak Bezel size, to make it more pocketable, and an earpiece on the device, I'd be in Heaven. The 4000mAH battery doesn't hurt either.

I thought the Streak 7 sound like what you described.
I don't think they're waiting for better battery tech because a dual core processor is usually more efficient than a single core because of power gating and what not. I'm also running into a few applications where my Streak isn't powerful enough because of the first gen snapdragon (and the Adreno 200) that are in it.
I'm not sure what they're waiting for, but I'm guessing they're waiting for Ice Cream and for more Streaks to sell. There wasn't much of a demand when it came out because not many people want a 5" phone. I think it's amazing, but most people don't. In the end, for Dell, it's all about how many they think they can sell and if the dev and production costs are worth it. All we can do is send them a thousand emails a day until they do it
But that's all just my 2 cents, take it with a grain of salt xD

Almost. Still a big bezel, and no phone functionality. One of the winning points the Streak 5 has is that I can hold it to my head and use it as a phone.
+1
With the Streak, there´s finally a big screened device which can be used as phone and can be held on the ear... Honestly, if the Galaxy-Tab would provide me the same possibility, i would grab me a 7 inch device and would not give a damn how ridiculous it look like for people who´re not that into it...
i´m glad, that there is a further development in the Dell roadmap for an 5 inch successor...

The next Note will have an even larger screen with flexible AMOLED, which is unbreakable! Sounds amazing if true! I want one!
I hope this is true but will put me in a dilemma as I was thinking of getting the note 10.1!
I will get Note 10.1! ..if they will ever release it
If it only was true.....
The note 1 is supposed to have gorilla glass, scratch proof etc. etc. How many have already their screen scratched ?? Battery life improvement with a bigger lcd ?? If we don't use our devices they will last at least a week, that's true !!
I never had the expected battery life they anounced using the phone normally, in fact the ics update made things worse... What's the point of anouncing things that aren't (yet) possible ??
After the latest problem with the update (that they already knew from earlier devices, nexus for example) they still insist in errors from tha past that shouldn't even be possible....... Well i really like my note i just don't like samsung. If they don't solve the problems with the first note before launching the second one .......... But it's all to be in the race with apple...
I'm starting to think i should have bought a zte or an lg.......

So is the windshield of my car....... no big advertisement here.
I will not flash a rom untill the bug is solved. Yes i will miss my note if it bricks since the average repair time seems to be 2-3 weeks and still will come with the same problem.
How about the glass that covers the screen and the digitizer?

I bought mine on last sunday, i say i wont replace it for years! It's the best phone i ever had... and dude... i had lots! I was addicted to apple products, then i bought galaxy nexus 2 months ago and now i have the note. Its awesome...
Got my note upon first release in November, I love it dearly, but I want to move on. I think I want something bigger.... I'm waiting to hear about the Nexus Tablet... hopefully that thing is all I expect it be be, and I will use that as my phone
Oh boy... and here comes the speculation....

Yep, if it wasn't for insurance...... Can't find a screen protector with the right size for it
What I love is the fact that people equate flexible to unbreakable.
I bet if you sit on a flexible screen the wrong way so as to fold it it would break. Reminds me of all the talk when CD's first came out, they said they were unbreakable, my car and the sun proved them wrong in the first week of owning one.
I will be happy if they have a flexible display as I wont be tempted to upgrade.
But like I posted elsewhere I cannot see it happening. What makes the Note unique (besides its size) is its S-pen, as the s-pen requires sensors behind the screen to detect the button presses I can not see how they would incorporate that is a flexible screen.
But I may be wrong
From how I read it the only reason they are using the flexible screen tech is because its much thinner, this will either allow a thinner device then the current note or keep the dimensions giving room for a larger battery. That mockup prototype has nothing to do with the note 2 and I cant ever see a phone design like that. If you put any decent force on it in that folded position the thing would break unless it was made of rubber.
I dont expect it to actually have a flexible screen unless its some type of flip foldout multiscreen design which I doubt it will have, this would make it a true phone tab hybrid if its in the note form factor but could extend out to a tablet. This will probably be the note 3 that does this I wouod think and not something out in october.
Note 2 will likely have a 5.5-5.7 inch screen hopefuly around 1080p with a 3000mah battery or slightly larger if possible. The physical size wont be much larger then the current note but heavier due to the larger battery as larger capacity equals more weight. Being a note it will have a stylus for sure and the phone going by this release will have the same quad as the gs3 maybe slighlty higher clocked, not the faster arm v15 duel core.

guys i dont want an unbreakable screen and stuff....i just want sammy to not foolishly waste the marvels they create!!example: the note:its by far THE BEST phone ive ever used...screen unbelievable: the day i bought it, another guy was buying the s3 and i didnt even feel bad, my phone was looking way better than his..
but i say waste their marvels coz: that ungodly black crush issue. heck almost every note had it in that store and moreover their dealers denied it, saying it was absent when all you had to do was open the calculator app and see the ugly banding right there..they refused to accept and said it was 'the design'..
and photos taken in the dark have this issue too...
other than this this phone ROCKS!!!!! I mean the size is just coooool..never slows down under any kind of multitasking, never heats up, battery is superb..
just wish for note 2, they COMPLETELY get rid of this issue!!! note rocks!!
my note2 = note - black crush + stable ics !!!! ( dont get better than that!!!)
I will never waste more money on another updated note...its never worth it lol this note is perfeft size. Any bigger would be stupid but tk each their own. I got my note sim free so i paid a gud amount for it. I wont be sucked in with tiny updates and 12 mp camera, just another stunt to make folks spend more money.

agree with you mate
I'd love a slightly larger screen. It'll likely be 5'5"...but anything short of 6" would be fine with me.
This is a round up of all the rumors of what we can expect from the S4,
Does anyone here think that some of these are unrealistic?
Lighter, thinner? (not sure about this, as if they decide to put the S Pen built in, it will be hard to slim down the SIV)
Higher Resoltion
Bigger Screen
2GB ram
built in S pen
More durable
android Key Lime pie
Faster Downloads
Faster Uploads
13MP camera
Higher PPi
2MP front camera
Quad-core 2 GHz Cortex-A15
Mali-T658 GPU
non pentile display
longer battery life
Improved Audio quality
As long as it's not exynos it would be good.
....
more antixda community security builtin
more bs bootloaders making sure you get your warranty void
...
im afraid i will pass next time and try nexys or sont
do you guys think it will have a s pen? and if they put it in do you think it wont to slim and light?
Don't think it will have a pen, but you never know... Just wait a few months
I In have been a Galaxy fan since the first one.
Loved them since then. I really think that the phone has the best technology and characteristics in the market.
But the S3 is an epic fail in design and construction.
I would love that the S4 is metal or aluminum built and that it feels less flimsy on the hands.
I would also like to keep the screen size of the S3.
I know most will say if I want aluminum get an Iphone but I hate them. And I hate to say that the I5 looks much better than the S3.

Interesting.
In that case, I have 5 more reasons to wait for the SGS IV:
1. Android Lemon Tart
2. Smaller charger
3. SMS Typing with the Power of The Mind™
4. Ability to print money
5. Built-in smoke detector

You do know there is more chance of getting shock damage if you drop a phone made of any metal don't you? Plastic absorbs impact much better than metal ever can.
There are rumors of S4 having Tizen OS instead of Android

This might be correct but. I'm not talking durability I'm thinking in design aspect. We are paying 600+ $ for a plastic phone?

Galaxy S IV = Galaxy Note 1.9
Please no, 4.8 screen is already enough. To increase it to 5.0 is better to buy a Note. The actually perfect size is 4.7, from the Nexus. Fits very good on the hands. Somehow, smartphones needs to stop increasing the size. If there's a Galaxy Note already, why should the Galaxy S get close to the Note?

That's not a metal Vs plastic test, the S3 has an extremely thin bezel which offers much less protection, it's the only reason the screen can break easily.
And from a design point of view, so why can I spend over 3k on a plastic TV? Over 1k on a plastic laptop? PS3 was over £500 on release guess what plastic. Its not cutting corners, making things on the cheap it's about making them out of a suitable material, Apple makes their products out of Aluminium for one reason, to drive the price up.
You want proof that Apple does this, The put a 4g chip in the last iPad in the UK, although the UK didn't have 4g. They marketed as 4g although the 4g chip only worked on American frequancies, and would never work in the UK. They were forced to change their marketing and website to remove all mention of 4g in the iPad.

If aesthetics are more important to you than functionality, then I don't know what to say, I like the look of the S3 I like how it feels in my hand I don't need to make it inferior just to satisfy the people who care more about looks than more important things.
Also on the looks if you make the phone out of aluminium, one drop will put a huge chip in it, because aluminium is extremely soft. If you really want an aluminium phone, get your S3, take it apart and wrap it in foil, and bang there's an aluminium phone.

I choose S3 for functionality and all it has inside. Speed etc.
But it's my opinion there are nicest phones out there. Yes of inferior quality with not all the pluses of the S3.

Honestly you would get a phone made of aluminium and one drop a huge chip in the edge, it will never look or feel as good, whereas with the S3 you would only get a crack, if that.
I had three people tell me the Note 3 would be too big. I would hate it. This, of course, was based on their opinion of holding the Note 2 and being put off by the size. I get it, it's not for everyone. It may not even be for me. Two years ago, I know it wasn't. But today, I might be coming around.
A relative of mine had the first Note. At the time I had the Evo 3d. I remember being so put off by that monstrous phone that I thought no way could I deal with something as big. But then I got a Galaxy Nexus. And now I've held the S4. And I see the G2. And I have to wonder, is this really a HUGE phone anymore?
Below on the left are the phones I've owned with the GN being the current. On the far right are the current choices for top in the Android world. Is the Note 3 bigger than average? Yes, but not so much anymore. Now it just seems like it's ahead of the curve.
So is this really a device in a different category due to it's size, or is this just progress?
My original smartphone was the Droid eris. I then moved to the Galaxy Nexus, and at first i thought the screen was pretty big, but I got used to it within a week lol...
fast forward to last week, when my nexus died... I have me beat up old eris and I cannot wait to have a big screen again lol...
yes, the note is big, but that much bigger than current phones, whereas the original note was gigantic compared to the current phones of the day.
I have the Note 1 and think its great, but like you said people go what the hell you need a phone that big. Then I show them how much more I can do because I have a bigger screen and 9 out of 10 people after go, "that not so bad after all". Just need to think beyond only calling and texting
Handling it should be no problem for you seeing that you're used to a gradual increase in size...and if you think note is big see the z ultra in person XD..you won't understand till then
3 years ago I bought s1 and everyone told me that my phone is too big to use comfortly.
Ergonomically, there is a huge difference and more relative to hand size and finger length. The main function for a lot of people is phone and text. Most prefer one hand operation most of the time in that regard. Previous size progression did not breach this function for most people until the phablet, hence the term.
Phablet is a fair and accurate term for most people. Either choice depends on the user and nobody else. If I did not have a tablet, I would get the N3, since more display and IMO, a better all-in-one if no tablet. I though have a Excite 7.7, TF300, Nook HD+ and iPad 4. I will stick with the S4, but would not be surprised if there is a S800 refresh of some form for the S4.
I have the (original) Note, bought it when they first came out, before it was even evident that any of the US carriers would offer it. So I didn't even have a chance to see one in person before I ordered it. I mocked up the phone by gluing two pieces of corrugated cardboard together, cut out to the same size as the Note. It fit in my pocket, and didn't feel awkward holding it to my face, so I ordered it. Once I got the phone, I loved it, and wouldn't go back to something smaller. However, I also don't want anything larger, as I do feel this pushes the limits of what comfortably fits in my pockets in certain clothes or activities. In fact, I wish they would have rounded the ends of the N3 more like the S4 just for that reason. But it really took no time at all for the size to seem normal to me. Of course, I grew up holding the Bell "trimline" phones to my face, so the Note is an amazing shrinking of technology from that perspective. When I first got the Note, I did get occasional "is that a tablet or a phone" questions, but not so much any more.
Size is not a big factor nowdays even more for those who seek the best experience
I am in full agreement with most of you on this matter. Basically my thinking and reasoning is this: I want the best (IMO) smartphone but at a reasonable size, so I want to look at Galaxy S4, LG G2, Sony Z1,Nexus 5 and Note 3. But hey, these mobiles are quite big and in my case in which I have small hands, it is difficult to operate them in one hand. So in essence, all these smartphones are big for me so the size factor is almost eliminated and therefore I am only after the total power, experience and functionality from those smartphones! Therefore I think Note 3 is the winner! Not to mention that Z1 is almost reaching the Note 3 dimensions but having only 5 inch display, so Note 3 at least is exploiting the big screen at an optimum level compared to its size! Now I hope the battery life of this beast will be great and at least to be on Note's 2 range.

This is exactly where I'm at. I just want the best phone. And at the moment, the Note 3 looks like it. It just happens to be a bit bigger than average. But I think much of the stigma of holding the "phablet" to your head is gone with the Note series. I mean, is it maybe a half inch longer and quarter inch wider than the S4? Not so noticeable anymore.

I cut out cardboard last night for the Note 3 size... Glad I'm not the only one who obsesses over things like this.
I think we've become desensitized to devices the size of the Note (all three are similar as is OG Pro). I've been using a N2 for eleven months and it’s become "normal." It's not normal though. One-handed operation was and still is a pain in the a- and I've got fairly large hands. I was recently visiting some friends and family in another state and they all had iPhones (at least a dozen of them) in various shapes and sizes. I felt like Gulliver with my N2.
I would never buy anything larger that the Note to use as my only phone. I have a large tablet so don't need my phone for the majority of my consumption. I'm betting others increasingly have 7-10" tablets too. And at least with a Note you can justify the larger screen as anything smaller would make multitasking and inking impractical. What’s the justification for the XZ Ultra?
So what problem does something like the XZ Ultra or even the One Max really solve? They create a portability problem if they are someone's primary communication device. I guess the problem they solve is not having to buy and/or carry both a phone and a tablet. But a 5.9-6.6" display is still too small for a tablet which is why the 8" form factor is the fastest growing. And God knows 5.9-6.6" is laughable as a communication device.
It kind of reminds of pre-gas crisis times where gargantuan SUVs were the biggest selling segment and people that didn’t need them bought them purely because "bigger was better" and the statement they made - “mine’s bigger than yours.” I think phones larger than the N3 will find their niche but I think once the novelty wears off people that buy them and use them as their primary device will come to their senses.
Other phablets are just "big smartphones." The Note is an honest to goodness productivity machine. There are plenty of options in terms of larger smartphones, but there is only one (well 3 now) Note.

I cut out cardboard last night for the Note 3 size... Glad I'm not the only one who obsesses over things like this.

The phone is just a feature
Bah, I got the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 3G (T-311). Why bother with tablet + phone? Just carry one device. But seriously, it really depends how important the phone function is to you. For those who only take the occasional call, the bigger the screen, the better. The Sony SBH52 handset will take care of the rest.

Talking isn't the limiting factor to me. I don't talk much, I text, email, and browse much more. I could hold an 8" screen up to my face and talk, but it would be an issue fitting that into many of my pockets or keeping on me for certain activities. The Note is about as big as I'd want to go for someone who prefers to just drop it in a pocket & go.

Short answer: Cargo pants/shorts
What I did was get a belt pouch that was designed to carry a small tablet. Easier to take out while sitting down, and no wardrobe malfunctions. 8) It leaves my hands free, which is the important part. But again, it depends on each person's needs. I wanted one device to do everything, including remote desktop.

I suppose if I could or wanted to wear cargo pants to every thing I did, that would be an option. It's rare (read: never) that I'm interested in sporting some kind accessory to carry my phone in. For those who are willing to dress around their phone, then sure, size isn't really an issue. May as well carry a full tablet around. Heck, you can make calls on a laptop if you want.

Yeah, 8-inch tab is about the biggest that can be held in one hand. Even then, it is a bit extreme. It's kinda like heading back to the days of carrying a ghetto blaster. Totally retro, man!

I agree. I've been a Samsung user for years, and I have to say that the gradual changes that they've made with the S series and now the Note series have been nothing but benefits. It's crazy, I didn't even know until recently that Samsung offers phones even larger than the Notes: the Mega has a 5.8 inch screen in diameter, and the second one in that series is at 6.3.

If you don't care about one handed use, and i don't, then the biggest practical phone is the one that still goes where your current phone goes.
I could easily go a bit bigger than the note 3. I know several girls who have the note 2 that carry the phone in their purse and there is no reason they couldn't go bigger as well.

since I haven't owned the note 3 yet (hoping before october ends), anyone here waiting for what the active version will offer before you finally make your purchase?
Since I'm on Verizon, any hope of an updated note 3 is the same as hoping to see a unicorn prance across my lawn.
So no, I'm sticking with what I can get.

The only version I would have waited for, had its existence been outlined, would have been a Note 3 Google Edition. A Note model with a flexible display does not appeal to me.
anybody else think the note 4 base model will be the flexible one? im salivating at the one with notifications at the side (youmy - bad pun i know lol).
anyway, interesting stuff from sammobile http://www.sammobile.com/2013/10/02/could-the-sm-g910-be-samsungs-flexible-display-smartphone/
respect nummobs
I am tempted to wait, but the s4 active took some serious downgrades over the regular s4. I'm just going to run the standard one for now, and pray I don't drop it. I will wait a generation for them to work out the kinks.

First, waiting for a "rumored" phone is a crap shoot. The One Max has been rumored for months, appeared in pics, has received radio certifications, and been priced in China. When and wear it'll become officially available (announced doesn't really count) is anyone's guess.
Here's my understanding of flexible displays. I'd be interested in other's opinions. The "flexible" part seems to mean the display is flexible but at the same time ridged because it's mounted to an inflexible hard casing that houses the phone's internals. If that's the case the only benefit I can see is increased breakage resistance. There's also talk of flexible displays being curved. Other than the "gee wiz" factor what's the possible benefit? Especially on something like the Note-series that you write on. Am I missing something?

Good point on the actual phone not being flexible if it was I would wait but why wait?
And the rumored screen is only supposed to be 5.5 inches
This is from GSMArena today. Depending on how limited "limited quantities" are it could mean a regional release. It most probably means a luxury price tag too (EG: Galaxy Gear). The U.S. carriers picking up a device they couldn't sell in volume would be pretty atypical. I guess time will tell.
Samsung and LG to unveil curved OLED phones this month
02 October, 2013 |*Word out of Korea is that both local tech giants, Samsung and LG, will each be unveiling flexible display devices in October.Samsung has officially confirmed a curved display smartphones, reportedly a Galaxy Note 3 Active model, which could be announced as soon as next week. LG meanwhile, are taking it a step further with their new LG Z series (Z as in Z-axis), featuring a concave display, likely of fullHD resolution. The Z series flagship is allegedly already in production, and is expected to*launch*this month. While both devices will feature unique, non-straight angle displays, they are not flexible per se, as internal components like circuit boards and batteries cannot be made bendable, yet. Current flexible OLED technology will allow displays which require less screen bezel, and will be unbreakable - hence the Active moniker attached to Samsung's upcoming device. Both smartphones are expected to be released in limited quantities as neither manufacturer has the capabilities to mass produce flexible displays yet.

The only thing they have come up with so far is a 'notification' sub-window on the leading edge of the phone. That way you do not have to open the case to see the message.
Given that the S Case is almost as good, I'm dubious of the benefit.
The other potential may be a 'foldable' phone, or one that unfolds to a tablet. That I would like to see, but it'll be a few years yet. Once it happens, we will forget what these old phones were like, and they'll be relegated to the likes of the monochrome LCD screens of the last millennium....
I'll be really angry if the flexible one gets announced next week since I've just paid for the order of note 3

The chance of it coming to Europe, let alone any shop selling it, is simply not happening.
We still can't buy the S4 Zoom or Active.
So no, no point waiting for it.

The S4 Active is available from Amazon UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Gal...2241&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+galaxy+s4+active
So maybe don't give up hope yet?
Guys keep in mind that if it will be an Active version like the S4 one then it will have smallest camera etc... just an assumption.
