[Q] Can someone verify that I'm not going to botch this? =] - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I was on Jasmine with the updated NC2/NC4 flashed via Odin.
I intended on upping to Jasmine 1.6 tonight and I wanted to start 100% fresh. So I backed up my ext/int partitions to my laptop, then formatted my external, loaded Jasmine 1.6 and whatnot to my clean external, then booted into Safestrap.
I then wiped everything, even my internal partition (yeah, idiot move I'm finding). It rebooted (which i didn't expect), and I'm not in bootloop.
With the new tether method.
Can I simply:
- flash the NC4 TAR here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524572
- TowelRoot
- Install SafeStrap
- Proceed with Jasmine install?
I want to maintain the ability to take advantage of the insecure kernels and whatnot should the day come that we get access to those goodies. Should I not Odin the NC4 and instead roll with the MJE TAR?
Thanks for your help!
NM, I failed to realize that TowelRoot will work on 4.3 so I'm just going to roll with MJE.
Thanks!

[Q] Running 4.3 ROMs with Safestrap 3.72?

Hi all,
I just bought a new i337 and it came with the NB1 bootloader, NB1 stock, and I followed all the steps to downgrade, etc and have SafeStrap 4.72 running it with a rooted NB1 stock firmware. However, there are some things I like about 4.3, and I would like to run SHOSTOCK (JellyBean version), but I know that I flashed a NB1 Kernel through ODIN as part of running the rooted NB1 stock. Do I have to start over and downgrade it back to MK2? Or is it as simple as just installing the SHOSTOCK for Safestrap in SafeStrap 4.72 even though in the SHOSTOCK thread they don't mention anything about 4.72, just 4.71. I guess I'm just concerned about the kernels not matching with the locked bootloader and all.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Safestrap v3.72 will mount on both 4.4 and 4.3 kernels. No need to switch back to v3.71.

Thanks for the quick response and answer.
Just a quick clarification, I cannot use Safestrap 3.71 anyway due to my phone having the NB1 bootloader, right? I thought v 3.71 was only for those on MK2 or below.
Thanks again for all your awesome work on finding workarounds for rooting NB1 phones and above!

No the SS version has more to do with your kernel not the BL. You can theoretically flash a 4.3 ROM using SS 3.71 on your 4.4 BL. There are additional requirements like modules, etc that I won't get into.
Well, I was trying to installing SHOStock 3.0- safestrap version today, and I kept getting the "cannot mount /system" in SafeStrap while installing. After rebooting a couple of times, I think I stupidly decided to do an advanced wipe of /system (among others). Do I have to go all the way back to stock NB1 (Original NB1), and then start the whole process to MK2->Root -> Safestrap all over again?
Thanks for any help!

Use the downgrade to MK2 file from this thread then root and install safestrap: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692825

Thanks for all the quick replies. Just to recap, ODIN back to Stock NB1 (no need to uninstall the remnants of SafeStrap I have now?), Downgrade to MK2, Root, Safestrap.
Also, I'm not sure what I did wrong when I went from rooted Stock NB1 to try to flash SHOStock 3.0 (which was 4.3). I honestly wasn't paying attention to the messages, so maybe I had a unable to mount /system error then, but then I went to reboot it, just was blank. That's when I decided to be stupid and go to recovery to advanced wipe including /system. I guess now if I want to run SHOStock 3.0, or whatever ROM, I can just install it once I have Safestrap rather than installing the Rooted ROM and kernel, right?
Thanks again!

No need to odin back to stock NB1, the downgrade file will get you back to a semi-functioning(no-wifi) MK2 at which point you can root and install safestrap. From there go to the SHoStock thread for instructions on how to properly install that particular ROM.

Thanks again for the quick reply.
Just to clarify, I guess I'm really confused about what kernel I would have if I flash the downgrade file? Would it overwrite the NB1 kernel I flashed after I flashed the rooted stock NB1 in Safestrap? I noticed that in going to rooted stock NB1 (or NC1), you have to ODIN flash the kernel.
Thanks again.

Yes the downgrade will revert you back to mk2 kernel in order for you to be able to root.

Screwed up going from MJE to KK

Hi there, just trying to upgrade from JB to KK... got halfway through the process, but screwed up and have a totally wiped phone right now. I DO have Odin and recovery access. What are my steps from here on out?
Do I have to install the MJE tar via Odin, root with Kingo, install Safestrap, wipe, then go through the KK install process? Or is there any way to go straight to KK?
My final goal is to get Eclipse installed.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Incase you haven't already found the answer, flash NC4 stock tar via odin found here.
Then follow the instructions to get rooted and on the NC2 kernel here.

Help Recovering after Full Wipe

Hi there. I was prepping to install JasmineRom 5.0.2 tonight but messed up and am hoping someone can help.
I was coming from Eclipse 2.2 (Android 4.4.2) with the NC2 firmware (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53508270#post53508270).
I booted into Safestrap and did a full wipe, but I got the error "E: Unable to mount internal storage". I then rebooted recovery thinking it would just reboot me back into Safestrap so I could try wiping again. Instead it booted me into what I guess is the stock recovery and now I can't get back into Safestrap.
Any thoughts? Everything is the same, I just lost my ROM. Any way to ODIN back to a working rooted state to try again?
Thanks!
Edit:
Since I'm on the NC2 firmware, could I just do the following?
1. ODIN the NC4 Stock Tar.
2. Root with Towelroot. Install Busybox, etc.
3. Install Safestrap 3.75.
4. Pickup where I left off with trying to install JasmineROM 5.0.2
Edit 2:
Alright I recovered with stock NC4 and re-rooted with Towelroot. Common knowledge to the rest of you, I'm sure! Sorry for a dumb post! Mods, feel free to delete.

Acquiring lollipop from 4.4.2 nc4

Hello
First let it be known that i have searched my butt off and tried many different things. The best i could get was a rooted phone and a non working safestrap install.
Can someone please give clear instructions here in this thread to either a) install safestrap on 4.4.2 nc4 or b) let me know if it's possible to install verizons stock lollipop firmware using odin (no recovery required).
I would love to get a working custom recovery to try different roms. Failing that, id love to know if it's possible to just flash stock lollipop firmware on this device.
I'm sorry to make such a request, as my first post.. But have been rooting and roming and xdaing since the Samsung vibrant. I'm just tired of trying to make this locked bootloader work. I must've tried a hundred different things.
As of right now ive odind back to 4.4.2 stock with nc4 kernel and said root, busybox, and supersu.
I'm familiar with odin, flashing, all the terminology, and can find the files on my own.

Yes..you can flash stock firmware for 5.0 via Odin. You will lose root and as of this time....can not root 5.0
once on 5.0, you can only odin back to 4.4.4 which is also unrootable.
simplyeorange said:
Yeah you can go back to 4.4.4 I've read post of people on this forum saying they were able to get back to 4.4.4 you need to download the stock tar. Which you can find on sammobile than boot into download mode and then open Odin flash the stock tar. After its done flashing Then boot into stock recovery and do factory data reset. Wait about 5-10mins and should boot you into 4.4.4

Thanks for that. I'm sorry about the aggressive tone of my original post. I was just quite frankly mad at how much verizon locked the note 3 down. I own it, you know? Lol.
I wanted custom recovery mostly for the nandroid backups. If i flash the nc2 kernel on 4.4.2 with nc4 kernel... Supposedly this is supposed to make safestrap work with one rom slot (stock). I tried this but it soft bricked. Is there a custom nc2 kernel I'm supposed to flash?
Also if i odin the stock 5.0 files will this keep all user apps and data? I suppose i could use titanium backup for that but I'm not sure if it will be compatible from 4.4.2 to 5.0?
I guess i have to debate whether i want nandroid backup abilities or lollipop.

Flipping Back to Use SafeStrap

I am currently running Optimal ROM with OD5 bootloader. Just got back into the rooted world last week after a warranty replacement stroke of luck. To be able to access SS to flash a different ROM, do I just flash the NCG kernel I have and boot?
Edit: Been out of the loop for a while and don't want to bork this thing
Anybody?
You can use flashfire which is a mobile odin and is in the playstore [root]Flashfire or you can safestrap. http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/guide-safestrap-access-odin-t3126686. Install busybox and and the safestrap bo3 in the link I provided. Make sure you install ss after busybox. The NI2 kernal flasher when used will install a kitkat kernel and bring you into ss.
Before all this download this zip and extract it.https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347777436 What you are looking to keep are the firmware and kernel zips. YOU MUST FLASH A KERNEL OR FIRMWARE AS THE LAST THING BEFORE EXITING SS. Otherwise you will get a blank screen.
Solution if you forget - battery pull - restart phone - ss symbol will appear - hit it and reenter ss.
Place everything I've told you to download on your ext sd. When you wipe - do not wipe ext sd.
example - If you're going from od5 to og5 you will ant to flash the og5 kernel as the last thing before leaving ss- just follow the rom's installation instructions to the letter
SS is already installed. I am running Optimal w/OD5 bootloader. I was wondering if just flashing NCG kernel would boot me back to SS screen. I'm old school and have been using Odin haven't tried FF and seem to see more posts of bricks with peeps using FF.
can flash kernel via odin
