Hey all....
Much to my surprise, I woke up this morning with an invitation to buy the 64GB Oneplus One. I went ahead and made the purchase. Whether I keep it, sell it or use it....no clue.
The G3 was my response to not being able to get the OPO invite. However, after having the G3, I have grown quite fond of it. I have concerns about the customization level even with xposed running. Customizing is important to me. Storage is whatever, not a huge deal. Photographs and videos are a mid priority on my list.
Anyways - anyone here have a chance to play with both? Which did you prefer? I have 1 week to return my G3 before I'm stuck to it. I will most likely return the G3 if the OPO doesn't arrive fast enough to be on the safe side. I'll deal with the return fee.
If anyone has any experience or thoughts on it please share. I read some other threads which were less constructive and more just bickering.
Thanks everyone.

i gave away my invite..the g3 is far superior than the opo
I just got an invite also and I also bought it. Main reason is because Franco is developing kernels for it, and it being fully unlocked. I like the g3 but the software is pissing me off

From a hardware perspective I am quite happy with the g3. That being said...I am Stoll yearning for more customization. The software has been frustrating me as well.
One question I need to answer is if the cost is worth it. 350 is an awesome price.

Gave mine away also...dont want to have to deal with that company.
And no doubt G3 is better...

I got the invite too, G3 is leagues ahead
Even if the devices were similar, I'm so annoyed with OP's business practices that I don't want to support them anyway.
How is the software frustrating? If you download Chrome, Hangouts, Google Camera, and install the Google Now launcher and dialer, you pretty much have a stock experience. Hell you could even get rid of the lock screen and use a replacement to get a more stock feel. Xposed modules will let you customize almost anything Cyanogenmod can.

this is a good post. after all is said and done, they will be quite similar with what is installed. for me, i like to tinker with ROMs and building environments (i'm a ux/ui designer) to play with.
bloatware can be removed so i'm not worried about that. at this stage it is mostly a matter of time. I already ordered it and will just turn around and sell it and keep the G3 or switch to it. I haven't put my G3 down since I got it. Truly an awesome phone.
I may have ordered it because i had waited 4 months for the invitation. Finally comes after I already getting into a committed relationship with the G3. LOL.

Gave my invite away. G3 is leagues ahead, and I am rather fond of LG. The One Plus is a good phone for the price, and the software is top notch. (I have the One Plus ROM installed on my G2. Same hardware I believe) I just believe the G3 is superior in terms of everyday usage. My two cents.
How do you guys get invite to OPO? Should I just register on web site?

I am seeing a consistent trend in this direction. The every day user seems to prefer the G3 while others justify the OPO due to cost, faster updates (assumed by the claimer), and better battery life.
Once I get it in my hands - I will know quickly which I prefer. I just hope we get an unlocked bootloader on the G3. Doesn't have to be right away but soon!

In no way am I bashing the One Plus, I rather like the price for the specs inside. Applauded Google for bringing the Nexus line into fruition, and pushing manufacturers to not screw over the average consumer with mediocre specs for a lot of money. I just am not seeing the justification of a smartphone of that price, when build quality, screen material, and overall spec wise, the G3 beats it (for not a lot more money, I might add)
Another reason I shied away from the One Plus, is the shady dealings of both the manufacturer, and how CM royally screwed over a large contributor base. Again, a great phone, but with shady dealings and practices involved I can see no reason to jump ship to that.
Why would anyone even compare the one plus and g3? It's not even close. People want the one plus because its hard to get.....period.

I have both phones. In my opinion, the G3 is far superior than the Oneplus One in every way hardware wise. The G3 is thinner, smaller, has a better camera, and the screen is gorgeous (everyone has their own opinions). The only thing I like about the Oneplus is cyanogenmod's theme chooser, other than that I'm more than happy with the G3.
Plus, I'm sure cyanogenmod will make it's way to the G3 sooner or later since our T-Mobile G3s are bootloader unlocked.
Edit: Oh, just wanted to point out that the sandstone back of the Oneplus is AMAZING! It feels much better in hand than the G3, but it is also wider and taller which is a no-no.
Sell the OPO for like 100 more than you paid for.
Can't go wrong with either really, as long as you can get an invite for the OPO. They're picking up the pace with those though and you should be able to purchase it outright by the end of Q3 (August)
If any of you have spare invites I still haven't gotten one yet and I'd love one for tinkering. The random invite system is dumb. I was one of their earliest supporters but I didn't create a forum account for a while so I got burned.

I have both phones, and to be honest, they don't really feel like competitors. The G3 is polished, slim, and solidly built, but is heavily restricted with its locked bootloader. The OPO is a flashaholic's dream, but the hardware isn't as nice. Mine has the slight yellow band at the bottom of the screen, too. The OPO feels much faster, but not overwhelmingly.
Well y'all, it's been a long run with LG but I am jumping ship to the OnePlus One. I have no animosity, but just feel it is time for a change. I have used LG since the Optimus G (great phone, not so great battery), all the way up to the Optimus G Pro, the G2, the G Flex, and now the G3. I received an invite to get the OnePlus, and decided to go for it.
I'd like to thank all of the great developers working on the phone, especially @jcase, @autoprime, @thecubed, and the many others that tirelessly worked at getting root, and a bootloader bypass to this device. I am glad I got to be a part of this phones development journey from the start (first phone I bought on launch day). I am selling my G3 (on Swappa currently for 355. If you tell me you're from XDA, I'll cut you a deal), but I will be active here providing answers to questions I can! Thank you all again!
You just made my eyes teary...

Hope that OnePlus One brings you more happines !!

It's OK, but can you post pros and cons of OPO compared to G3? Is OPO that much better overall, or you miss something of G3? Is OPO camera the same or better quality?
Not to start a flame wars but to get truly and unbiased comparison from one who have owned both devices
I had both for about three weeks and out of the box i preferred The OPO. Over The course of three weeks I started missing The G3 for certain things. Wireless charging, smaller footprint, sd card, having an extra battery for my Orlando days, the list goes on and on. The battery life of The OPO was badass, but some things didn't feel refined enough though. The OPO went to my brother in the end. If there was anything i miss more than anything about The OPO, it would be that sandstone back it had. It felt pretty amazing.

Have you been living under a rock or are you just complaining that the bump website hasn't been put up that will allow developers to bump their ROMS and Kernels for use on the G3? If you haven't heard about bump, then a little reading is in your future, but the short story is that we now have the ability to flash whatever we want using the G3 bootloader via a method called "bump."
And here it starts it seems every one is leaving the g3 crap.

Its just not off one thread there are tons of people switching to other phones and a few devs. So yes i guess you know every thing i was reading and I guess I cant have my own opinion or state any thing on xda any more with a remark. All i was stating that is sucks devs and some user are switching.

I said im keeping both devices. I'm just laying out the differences in both devices i own which is a "FACT". For LG G3 our bootloader is locked. XDA devs did a amazing job in bypassing it. On the LG(Company) part they are not going to do anything to unlock our bootloader officially. I do know the method called "bump" by the way.

You know, I like my G3, but I got a OnePlus for my sweetie, and I really like it simplicity.. so I got one for myself to play with. Still using the G3 as my DD. I'm on the fence about switching, as they both have some interesting features. If I could 1080 the screen and all apps work/present well, I'd stay G3. The 4K is awesome, though.
Good luck.
Wow, that's a strong move. Although G3 is pretty much locked, 1p1 is too rough.. overall rubbish.
I'd suggest keeping both and then deciding if that's what you want.
But it's been a month now, eh.. guess it's too late

I have both and even though I sold my 1+1 when I got my G3 I ended up getting another 1+1 just over a week ago and I have been using it since and if push came to shove then I think I would pick the 1+1
I'm not sure what it was that made me sell my other one, maybe it was because of the small amount of yellow tint that it had. Things I prefer about the G3 is the removable battery and sd card. I prefer the look of the 1+1 but the feel of the G3(I don't like the sandstone) The screen is better on the G3 but not by much and if I looked at one today and the other tomorrow I wouldn't notice the difference. Battery life is much better on the 1+1 and it stays a lot cooler doing the same things(I don't play games)
Hope this helps.

Again there are threads set up for this type of talk. I do not understand people who need others to make up there mind for them. Sorry if you feel I am disrespectful but why dont you simply look up the specs and user remarks on the phones and make your own educated decision.
Asking random people in a forum that may not have both phones just does not make sense to me. Again my apologies but do some reading go to the store and get a feel for G3 and see if you can borrow a friends 1=
+. Worse case buy both and sell the one you dont like
When the G3 has full functional ROMs it will be able to compete w/the opo.
In the meantime the g3 is a dog that must be seriously modded to come near the stock performance on the opo.
I own both.

I'm like you. I get bored of my devices after a couple of months of use. With that being said, I believe each device has it's strength. The OPO will yield you more screen size, battery life, front-facing camera, and speakers. The G3 will give you better resolution, rear-facing camera, and portability. I absolutely love my OPO and with the price of the N6, I'm really glad I chose it. I'm running Mahdi and AK kernel on it and this thing absolutely flies.
With that being said, I'd trade my OPO for a G3. It's in absolute mint condition (tempered glass and case since day one). Like I said, I love new toys.
Opo
One plus one definitely!
Cuz bump has gone and the devs aren't signing boot images I'm guessing custom ROMs will fall on this device and I am a heavy custom romer if that's a word ahahah always changing ROMs to try new ones, I bought this not knowing there would be a boot unlocked coming and wondering if the nexus 6 would be better for custom ROMs ? I know this is a g3 specific section and don't want a fight just wondering and need some help thanks
I've been wondering about the future of ROM's myself since this whole thing went down. However, there still is "Open Bump", but I'd actually feel terrible using it. Seems like it would just be a slap in the face to Team CodeFire. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens from now on. I'm happy that I just got Lollipop on my vs985, but worried about future development :/

At somepoint, if yoi xan afford it, then go for it .
My opinion
G3 ia good device but i believe snapdragon 801 wasnt meant for 2k display..805 will handle it better..yes there is bump(thanks to respected dev :')), but still it all depends on out rom devs who give their precious time amd develop roms for us.. G3 will have less than nexus6 thats for sure..nexus 6 will enjoy official support from all custom rom teams like cm/PA, while we quite arent yet..
So changing to nexus can be good(if you dont mind nexus UI, coz am using cm12 and am loving it ),. You will loose all g3 goodness though..that awesome camera with lasee focus, compact bazel screen body and all.. But it shouldnt bother you if you arent big time photographer and as you mentioned you are big time CUSTOM ROAMER(that should br a word, hmm..sounds cool ..we gotta ask oxford to ask it and make it official, hahaha)
Nexus 6 might sound all new and cool and almost same price of g3 but it might have its own limitations too.
No optimus ui
No laser focus
Too big pahblet screen
Okay-ish camera many says
No extra features as will have stock android only
Pros-
Nexus so latest google updates
Snapdragon 805+ 2k screen is actually good combination, thats the reason we also have an 805 version of g3 in korea..(still its not good on benchmarks, dont know why)
Screen is amoled
Official custom rom teams support
Blah blah
So choose your poison..
If i was at your place, i would have been confused too, i would have tried the device in hand once(its performace and handeling of 2k display), and then go for it.
I dont think its design is issur for you, coz you wouldnt have asked it if you would have hated moto x type design of nexus 6(as many do hate)
Good luck mate

Bump is not dead by any means and the end-users will likely not notice any degradation in ROM development. The Open Bump option is still available and many devs will use this. Team Codefire may also privately Bump builds for certain devs. It boils down to the fact that several developers threw hissy fits over Open Bump. I understand the reason they are mad about another dev making their exploit public, but the amount of drama surrounding this is abit ridiculous and there are arguments for both sides. This is a topic for another day, just know that Bump is not dead and development for the G3 will continue, don't worry. Bump has already been implemented into the nightly builds of CM12 so it's not going anywhere. Just never take an OTA update now if you want to keep TWRP.
Thread needs to be closed bump still works just different way of doing it is all roms will still be here

I'm not a developer, but from a price standpoint, there is no doubt ... The G3 with 32GB / 3GB ram cost me 1/2 the price of the Nexus 6. I believe for the money, the G3 is a fantastic device. Now, I know most people in the US will buy it on contract and won't have to put up 700 dollars (or 700 euros in my case) for a phone. But I believe techwise the N6 is a great phone, but I don't think it's worth the 700 euros (circa 1000 USD) while I got the G3 for almost half the price, and I had gone with the 16gb / 2gb ram version it would have been less than half.
If money isn't an issue, go for the N6. It will see development for years to come. But I really like the camera on the G3 and the size. 6 inches is really big for a phone in my usage.
Who told you the lie that Bump is gone? I'm still bumping my kernel here with a .py script =)
I Didn't know where to put this thread so I am simply putting it here in general tab.
Do you guys think upgrading to LG v10 is a good idea?
thing sounds really cool except the processor (snappy 808) which is kinda making me think that its just not the time. Especially now that I know exynos chips are providing way better performance but I really like the features and all. Always have been a power user but ended up buying crappy devices. Every device had its down point somehow. Lg g3 has 2k too much for processor scenes and like that.
I don't want Knox so I don't wanna go down Samsung road if there is no development. After all XDA is what keeps devices newer even after 4 years :')
How many of you think/are considering that upgrading is a good idea?
They should wait with "Premium" device for new Snapdragons. Or atleast use 810 v2.0
That's why im waiting for 2016 flagships
Imagine how good the G5 will be, that's my next phone
The best time to upgrade to a newer device is at the beginning of a year. If you're thinking about buying a new device now, manufacturers are going to release their premium flagship devices in about 4 months.
This means that you'll be happy with a new phone now, but you'll want to swap it in 4 months. If you wait, you'll at least get a whole year on a really nice premium device, or if you're like me, 2 years so the upgrade actually feels like a big leap forward
Geme geme
Just Pre-Ordered the V10, Got the G3 on DAY 1 as well, so this will be a Leap Forward me...LOL

Knox is already in Lollipop..at least parts of it. Knox doesn't stop root or development. Locked bootloaders and DM-verity are what is killing Samsung Development. When the 2 biggest carriers in the US lock down their devices so as to make permanent root as of yet impossible, developers will leave for something else. Marshmallow will be even tougher. If you want a future proof device then you should look at Nexus devices. Otherwise wait and see how root and development turn out for the G5.
My lg g3 sucks at lollipop due to minor transition lags in notif tray and stuff, which i dont like. I will leave Lg asap
I am confuse about V10 position.
It is not a PRO like G PRO 2.
It is not a LG G5.
I will wait for LG G5.
I am waiting for lg v10.. This phone is the best phone till now
Exactly , it's a good idea ....indeed
It's upgrate the camera , memory, processor and the screen ...

I would like to check this one out but I have to wait on my company to test and approve the phone before I can request it (corporations...). My G3 is more stable, fast, and usable than ever on XenonHD 5.1.1...
Pisses me off royally that sprint isn't getting the V10, I want it bad!

Probably wait for the v20 and see what that looks like. G3 is still getting the job done for me.

After i bought my G3 i tested stock rom for about 10 Minutes and in the next 10 Minutes i saw CM booting it up - in my opinion so much better then stock isn´t comparable
But it´s your decision
Skipping this generation. Next year will upgrade

Supposedly they're going to be selling them in December.

I was thinking seriously about getting the V10, and even went to the AT&T store to check one out. But considering the $700.00 price tag to buy one outright, I think I'll get the 32GB Moto X Pure Edition instead.
