Uploading free apps to Google Play? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I want to upload few CM11 themes I made to the play store(for free) but seems like I must pay $25 for the "Google Checkout Merchant Account" doesn't matter if my themes are free???
I don't care to pay $25 but I wonder why there are soo many free apps? If developers must pay for sharing free apps

As the saying goes, in order to play, you must pay! The charge is for a few reasons. Keeps the bad guys away for the most part, help pay the costs. This is my understanding, could be more.

Android Market payments in Latin America?

I have not received my Vibrant yet, and I'm new to Android, so can anyone tell me if I can pay for apps in the Market in Panama?
I have Paypal, credit card, etc. but I don't know how payment works in the Market, but I've read that it's not an option everywhere.
Anyone?

yes you can all that will be added is the exchange rate differential cost for 1 dollar exchange to English pound is about 6% or 8cents so it will not effect you much don't know exchange rate cost for the Balboa to dollar but I would guess it is something the same.
Well, the Panamanian Balboa is based on the US dollar at 100% parity, and US currency is freely used here, so that's not a problem. Is it possible to pay in the Market with PayPal?

Publishing apps other then android market

Hi All!
I am now learning developing apps, I have found that publishing to android market cost maintenance fee. I wonder where did you post you apps to? eg slideme? any other good suggestions?
Thanks!
It's cheaper than Apple...
Google Market cost $25, Apple's is $99.
Surely you can afford $25
It's also a one-off payment.
If your app costs say $1 you'll easily get 25 downloads and cover the cost.
Does this apply to free apps as well?

yes it is for having a merchant account/ market license, its for free and paid apps
I am trying to avoid it because of the currency exchange rate. $25 USD != $25 in my country >.<

$25 Credit?

Quick question -- I've preordered a Nexus 7 16gb and i wanted to use the $25 to grab some tablet apps on my Nook while i wait for it. Only issue is, the credit isn't showing up in my payment options...
Do you get the credit upon ordering, or is that when you activate it?
it looks like you get the credit once the new device is activated. at least, that's how it looked from the google videos.

We get Transfomers: Dark of the Moon, The Bourne Dominon (book), and a couple magazines. Plus the $25 credit, of course.
Question
Is everybody who buys this tablet now or in the store getting 25$ giftcard and films or just the one who are pre-ordering it in Google Play Store?

It says for a limited time, so I assume just those who are pre-ordering. Or the first round of pre-orders, who knows.
I do think it is good the credit/movies and all that will just come on the device. Easiest way to do it.
Strategy
In their developer conference they said that it is new strategy to customers buy more products in Google Play, but he did not say if all tablets have that 25$ gift
provided all pre-ordered devices will get $25 gift.what happens if the device is activated outside US,UK, and Australia? will there still be $25 gift in the form of other currency? thanks

When I ordered mine (Canada), it did showed credit being applicable. Anyways, with the amount of taxes we pay - I guess Google hand out pro-rated credits
Does the credit apply to the play store as a whole, meaning can this credit be applied toward the case or other accessories?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the free credit will show up once your card has been placed and the order shipped and it probably applies to apps or media. The free book, movie and magazines will probably only be accessible if you log into google play from the US or Canada, The UK or Australia the only places where legit pre-orders are available right now.
If you pre-order one and you log in for the first time outside of those countries, you will not be able to access that part of the play store and download the free media. I may be wrong and it all comes pre-loaded but I have a feeling otherwise, I guess we will have to wait and see.
Okay, so the free credit (£15 per device - from the UK); I've ordered 2 tablets together - to save on postage. One for my wife and one for someone else, I ordered it while logged into my google account and unticked the option that said to register the devices to me (as obviously my wife and friend have their own google accounts).
So how will it know to assign the credit to them, is this built into the tablet rather than via the store? Sorry I'm a bit confused and don't want to lose out on the £30 total credit.

Id say the first account you log on with will get it on each device

Unfortunately, the credit cannot be used for subscriptions or accessories. Sucks right?

Perhaps a card is given in the packaging with a number similar to a credit card number and when you go to input a credit card you type in this number so you can pay with it like that; and then perhaps you can choose between using a credit card or using the gift card.
Credit is given when the actual device is activated.
Credit goes to the Google account used for that activation.

Free Play Store Credit?

A couple of months ago, I convinced a friend to get the N7. While setting it up, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that she would get a free $25 in the play store for setting up Google Wallet!
The N10 is my first nexus device and my first Google Wallet-supported device, so I expected to be eligible for the same promotion. I set up Google Wallet, but didn't see anything about free Play store credit. Was the free credit offer only for N7?
I searched Google, but I get search overload/results about a free $10 for credit cards given to google wallet users. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks

That promotion is no longer running, it was only for the n7. Also the $10 credit you speak of is also expired, that was offered to anyone who activated Google wallet when the app first launched.

Best cloud for nexus 7?

Which one, what s the best.
I don't want pay or rent extra storage.
Now I have 7gig on drop box. Max is 16gig. I need guys to sign up at
Mod Edit...
Why they don't offer more? For free.
Box, I have 50gig. But no good for pictures.
I think Google give 5 gig. Why 5 gig only...?

Is this post really what I think it is? "Why won't people give me more things for freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"
Because this actually costs them money to offer and they're businesses, and you don't deserve anything from them? That's the way things work. The customer pays money in exchange for services. If you don't pay, then you can bet that anything you get is in return for some of your data.
Some services offer more space, like Bitcasa or Bittorrent Sync*, but everything has a trade off of some sort.

Not everything can be free mate. Since you already have 50GB at box, why not use that? I'm not sure what you mean that it's not good for pictures, whats wrong with it?
Since you don't want to pay for anything, it doesn't leave you with that many options does. If I were you, I would just pay for one of them and stick with it. Google drive is really cheap with only 4.99 a month... And that gives you a 100GB of space.
I don't know how you only have 7gb on dropbox. I have 52gb just from sharing with one person I think. Google drive gmail and Google plus offer a total of 15gb and seem to work best for me.
