I'm sure you all know our Vibrant's SUPERAMOLED uses much less/no power when dysplaying black and a TON of power when having to dysplay white pixels.
You also all know that most websites are white with black text. My idea is to invert this in browsers such as DolphinHD, the default Android Browser, and whatever other browsers there are.
How would it work? Ideally as a browser plug in (DolphinHD already supports addons) that inverts background color on websites if it detects white and inverts text color to white. It would NOT touch any other color nor the images, video, animations on websites. Just the static background would be black if it's white by default and the text would be white.
That way, a lot of power will be conserved, even on full screen brightness.
Since I do not have the time or expertise to do this, I am just offering the idea for a dev to look into if interested.
Good idea but what about black within photos and such? that'd be insane.
Umm...Inverting colors in photos would just ruin the pictures I think.
I was talking about making the addon look for the html/php/etc tags that specify color for the background and text of a page upon load and alter them before passing it to the browser to load.
Just change the white background to black, and white text to black. No need to invert colors.
Some one must be able to do this... come on!
Looking desperately for the same funcionality!
I think that is a great Idea, I was thinking about that. In the app youverison
It's a bible app. They have a low light setting, turns background black and font white.. I was thinking how great that would be for web browsing.. it seems like an impossible task.
Somebody posted a thread about this a while back. I would love to see oit done, easier on the eyes as well as battery. Steel had this option for one version a while back, or it might have been Dolphin, so it can be done. Adilko and most of the Ereaders have this functionality.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I am using Galaxy S I9000 and I would love such an app. One of my favt website popurls.com is one such site, uses black background and blue text. Also Blackle is a website which is Google Search with black background. Gr8 idea. Wish some developers are reading it.
There should b a quick button for inverting the colors. So that it can b turned off when not required.
I got in touch with the DolphinHD team, and feedback looks promising. Probably I will write the add-on myself so stay tuned!
Thread moved to General.
Have you tried using cyanogen's screen rendering app? You can choose to render the screen in different colors my G1 has it. I can render the screen in red. I haven't seen this porter to the vibrant though.

yeah, i acknowledge that in the linked post... unfortunately no complete CM7 yet for Epic4G. hopefully this helps out somebody else like me still running modded stock roms.
We have had it with this dammned bug (black squares on CRT white animation, pixelated as karendar says), lets hope we get it right this time uh!
update: seems the only way to break the CRT is taking a screenshot from the samsung included screencapture and music app...that is holding down the home button and pressing power at the same time..... this is for the pixelated effect.
I also own a Galaxy tab, which doesnt have the smooth animation on CRT effect either, this feels like there is something on framework.jar and even on the surfaceflinger.cpp (where the animation is stored) that differs from the one HTC uses.....I dont know any coding of drivers, neither how to edit cpp files, I do know however how to decompile jar files, took a look inside and at first glance everything seems the same.
I feel the CRT effect is as good as is going to get, until someone comes along and breaks the surfaceflinger apart and compare it to the HTC one. There are more important things to do and fix regarding the S2 than the CRT off animation (which ain that bad withouth pixels to begin with), so, if anyone is willing to invest time on cpp coding, pm me and Ill help it whatever way I can.
Now, CRT pixelated effect is indeed fixed with blur set to slow, which means the surfaceflinger is unable to handle the overload when set to fast which then leads me to the following:
Have two theories about the screencapture pixelating the CRT animation
1.- the white flash that it uses to take the screenshot corrupts the animation or overloads surfaceflinger.
2.- the screen is resized while taking the screenshot wich again corrupts the animation or overloads surfaceflinger.
Thanks everyone who tested it, and I already see it is being implemented on ROMS and themes, which honestly makes me happy to have been on any help
Continue on with experimenting then.......
so straight to the point..... based on this
false
did the following (dont have to be a genius to do it)
decompiling framework-res.apk, navigate to res/values/bools.xml
change the following[/B]
from
false
to
true
and of course, enable CRT effect
from
true
to
false
then compile back
Have been testing it on my device and have not had the bug ever since......Obviously this needs more testers than myself (lol), reason for this thread.....
I am providing an example for VillainRom v2.1, CWR flashable zip, with only the two mods explained above, nothing else, but feel free to mod the framework on you desired rom
and if working....pls give credits....!
btw, should work on CM7 too.(edit, just saw CM7 already has this config and bug still exists there, but i also know surfaceflinger is not optimized yet)
Needs feedback working or not!
Mods, I think this is the wrong subforum right?, sorry, pls change it to the right one....(I think it is

what happens, u have the squared bugs on CRT?....I always had the bug when long pressing power button, now i dont have it, been using it, and havent bumped into it....is lite version odexed aswell?, maybe that has to do with it too?
Does this fix the sudden brightness changes bug thing?

Yeah, I still see the screen turning off weirdly, I mean its not like what we saw on nexus s... I think villain 2.1 lite is same as original rom, only apps are removed... but I'm not sure, because it was not mentioned in the rom thread and it was themed
do u mean the smoothness of the animation, or u see the black squares inside the white fliping crt animation?.......if so, how are u reproducing it?
Give it a try. How does the animation work is it like the boot animation?

I mean the smoothness, its still not very smooth, maybe its my view, we need more testers... this should be in original development...
ah ok....its intended to fix those ugly black squares, about the smoothness, if this is fixed, that is the next step.....
(u made me wipe the phone just to retest, lol)
How is this any different to the CRT animation off thats been around for some time, I never noticed it bug out on me.. can you guys put up a video on how this "fix" looks like?
it aint different.....for instance, if long pressing power button, then presseng back, and turn off phone (just hit the power button, standby), The white flipping image becomes distorted, with black squares, this aims to prevent those black squares, as I said, same animation, just not distorted...

Hey Doc!
Does this use the odex framework? I ask because i had the extended power menu mod posted in the Villian thread installed which deodexed the browser before this, well i flashed through cwm and wiped cache and now i get a few random force closes and when i try to enter the power menu i get booted to the boot screen.
Gonna try again now on a fresh install.
Not sure if im being dumb or or it was to do with odex.
I will say the crt seems to be working a treat from what ive seen lol
No more black squares on Cog 1.15 great job !

So Actually I was going to write a thread about the two themes present in the samsung's TouchWizUI: White and Blue.
My Galaxy Tab 2 P3100 i.e. tab shows me only white theme while the phones shows the blue one.
But while messing with the LCD density I found that the firmware Actually has both of the themes.
so I started experiments on my tab with different LCD Densities and found that while we have both of the themes but we actually have all the three UIs with us too.
It's been the 4.1.1 update that made me loose my fav tabletUI and make it to the PhabletUI.
By changing Lcd density, we can see the changes in the UI.
Please see the attachments for Screenshots.
Range:
Below 140 is the TabletUI with the white theme.
Between 140 and 160 is the PhabletUI with white theme
Above 160 is the PhoneUI with the BLUE theme
though changing LCD density to other than 160 will make the touchwiz home and keyboard app to crash.
but using alternatives [launcher and keyboard app] can make it cool.
also densities greater then 160 [phoneui] will also cause the camera app to crash and the UI will change the camera Icon with a cute little green android.
Review:
TabletUI:
1) Samsung white theme is seen
2) There is no bar on the top
3) Notification bar opens from bottom
4) Battery percentage Is displayed
5) Even on rotation to the landscape, button bar [The one with the back, home and recent buttons on, sorry don't know the name for it] stayes at the bottom
6) In lockscreen only bottom bar is present
PhabletUI:
1) Samsung white theme is seen
2) Bar on either side of screen i.e. Notification bar on top and the action bar [let us give it a name] at bottom.
3) notification comes from top
4) notification bar doesn't fill the screen
5) no battery percentage indicator
6) On rotation each bar stays at there respective position.
7) lock screen differs from tabletUI as there is only top bar not the bottom one.
PhoneUI:
1) Samsungs's beautiful blue theme is seen.
2) UI almost same as PhabletUI with each bar on either side of the screen
3) Notification fills the home screen like what happen in a phone
4) When orientation changed to landscape, the Bottom action bar shifts to the right
5) Gestures in the bottom bar used to open google ow is not present.
6) Battery indicator is blue in color while it is green on the other two modes
7) When connected to PC via USB, Battery indicator neither shows a cross mark nor it shows charging.
8) Settings menu now don't have the dual panel
9) Camera icon replaced by android icon
100 Camera app is crashed
I also see a little performance boost when in phoneUI made.. may be because of no TouchWiz mode.
[Note:
Remember to install a launcher before changing the LCD density because it will make your TouchwizUI to crash and you will not able to select your apps from the app drawer.
Rather you can also put your build.prop editor in the homescreen shortcuts so than you can use it from there. but make it before the changes, you will not be able to make changes in homescreen shortcuts as it is a part of TouchWiz home and on opening, it will crash.
Your replies are appreciable.

Easiest way to change modes is to use a custom ROM. AOKP being the better choice. DPI changer built into the ROM If you wish to add a custom theme ( set it to 159, default being 160) and you can switch modes via ROM control and a quick reboot. I'm sure the OP knows what hes doing , just giving some advice to less experienced users.

I know that custom roms have better control on modes but the motive of this post to tell others that we already have the three modes with us along with the two themes ON STOCK ROM.
For those who don't want to shift to a custom rom or argue that we lost our UI after updates. This post is for them.

I agree with you totally , but the amount of threads in this forum where people have messed with stuff not knowing what they are doing are plenty. Hey I was one of them when I joined the forums :crying: I've had bootloops by the dozen and even totally bricked a device by flashing the wrong thing on to it , an expensive mistake to make.
I actually like the stock ROMs , just that i prefer total control over the ROM i use, a personal choice ....same as yours ! I was just offering advice to new users. Basically make sure you know what you are doing before you do it or use something that's designed for the job if you dont.
Finding out how to recovery from a bootloop and how to restore a device from a nandroid is a must.
I do find it strange why people stay on stock , not even with root access.Surely that's what the spirit of Android is about, what makes our tabs different from the locked down nature of the iPad. Obviously its the users choice as they paid for the device , just an observation.
Have fun with your DPI

okie I was infant about the bootloops. but I've learned from it.
I've previously use many custom roms and flashed my xperia many times. even bricked it a lot. Flashed , bricked and recovered.
I guess thats how u learn.
and regarding staying at stock was because this tab and its TouchWiz is new to my hand and want to learn it before trying something.
Trust me custom roms are not so far from me.
Amen brother ! If you have never had a bootloop you're not an Android fan
I actually got the phone UI by mistake on AOKP M1 > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33898491&postcount=440 ,seems really strange on a tablet. But was fun messing with it. As for stock....Just about to flash the new official-ish JB on to my tab and give it a spin , be rude not to IMO.
Get a custom ROM on your tab you will love it, what you got to lose ? Can always flash back.

Ok this is kinda bugging the me to no end. Nothing is WRONG with the screen, as this only appears in certain places.
Here's what I mean: When I start up settings, or anything that darkens the background, you can see these lines: http://imgur.com/eCELgov,yPD8mMK#0 in the first image. You would also see ripples only around the jelly beans, but you can only see it in the ES Image Viewer window in the Recent Apps. But when I go back to my homescreen, the lines disappear. And this only happens with certain parts of apps or the settings, as I changed my brightness down to low as possible, and no lines or ripples.
I'm on Rastakat 4.4.2, and this is a recently bought tablet which has been working fine so far.
EDIT: This is probably a way better example: https://www.dropbox.com/s/a3r7gz5wjlwvq92/Screenshot_2014-01-01-17-30-16.png

Hi, Duskye...
It's always tricky judging these things from a screenshot... but it looks like you have light bleed due to screen lift on the right hand side of the screen.
I have a little light bleed myself on my Nexus 7, though nowhere near as bad as yours. I've taken the back of my Nexus 7, and I've noticed a screw is missing that should clamp the screen tightly to the frame, and thus allowing light to bleed from underneath. It's never really been a major issue for me, as it's only really noticable when the screen is really dark.
If, as you say, your device is new, I wouldn't waste time in trying to fix it yourself... you should get a refund/repair or replacement.
Also, if you have bad screen lift, the screen itself can be prone to easy cracking/shattering as it's not tightly clamped in the frame.
Screen lift/light bleed issues where a significant problem last year (I mean 2012, I forget, it's 2014 now) when the first batches of the N7 came out... but I thought those early production problems had now been ironed out.
One thing you could try... purely as diagnostic... is download from Google Playstore any one of the many testcard apps. They run the screen through a variety of coloured background's... including black... if there is no uniformity across the screen in black, then it's almost certainly screen lift. And you have a hardware problem.
And if this is the case, you should seek redress under warranty.
Good luck.
Rgrds,
Ged.
This happens on _all_ parts of the screen, it's not just that side, and, like I said, this only happens in certain parts, like say if the jellybean wallpaper had jellybeans falling from the top, I would only see those ripples _on_ the jelly beans, and the ripples move along with the jellybeans if they were in any other postion, and no where else. And I should probably mention this: This was not apparent when I had 4.1 on this. This only started happening when I installed Kitkat.
And this is probably me being uninformed, but if this a hardware problem, then how come you are able to see the problems from a screenshot it took from the device itself?
I don't think there is anything wrong with your screen. You are seeing quantization artifacts due to the "dimming". The degree to which you observe this depends on the original image.
For instance, look at your screen on Settings...Display.
All those subtle horizontal bands at the bottom of the screen are not intentional, but due to the fact that a "gradient" painted with a limited number of values will show intensity steps at each value transition, so long as your eyes can resolve that intensity difference. And this effect is always most pronounced at low intensity values.
For instance, "grey" values always have equal R,G, and B intensities, e.g.:
RGB
000 = black
111 = grey1
222 = grey2
...
254,254,254 = grey254
255,255,255 = white
So for instance the "intensity" difference between grey3 and grey4 is
I(grey3) = sqrt(3^2 + 3^2 + 3^2) = 5.196
I(grey4) = sqrt(4^2 + 4^2 + 4^2) = 6.928
(6.928 - 5.196)/5.196 * 100 = 33%
whereas the difference in observed intensity between grey240 and grey 241 is only 0.42%
You won't notice quantization effects in bright images, but you will when the same image is dim.
@Duskye Is this a live wallpaper we are talking about? There are lots of (ahem) "optimizations" that can be made (for instance sub-sampling) which sacrifice image quality for speed, so it is reasonable to believe that a software update could change things. Did you fool with any of the rendering or live wallpaper options in Settings... Developer Options?
PS Ged: When someone takes a "screenshot", they are not literally taking a picture of the screen, but dumping color values from a framebuffer. So it is not possible to capture "bleed" with a screenshot; you would have to use an actual camera for that.
Nope, that's just the regular default jellybean wallpaper, though it does this with any wallpaper.
And the only dev options I touched were USB Debugging, nothing else.
EDIT: I installed Carbon, which latest release is Jelly Bean, and the lines are not as apparent, in fact they're all gone from settings, there isn't even any ripples anymore.
EDIT2: I took a photo with Carbon as well, and made a side by side of the Rastakat and Carbon pictures: http://i.imgur.com/bk6ElGq.png

Well, there you have it - it's not hardware.
There are other possibilities as well - .JPG image files are partial DCTs (Discrete Cosine Transformations) on 8x8 pixel blocks. They are "partial" in the sense that compression is achieved by dropping high-frequency coefficients of the transform in each block. While all of this is standardized in the JPG format, there is no reason why a rendering method needs to compute the full image for display using all the coefficients - in the name of rendering speed. Similarly, when you "assign" the wallpaper, I believe the source file is copied to a standard location. It is possible that it is also down-sampled at that point in time, esp. if the original image was stored as a high-quality JPG image file (little to no compression).
Anyway, you get the idea - any or all of this can be affected by the ROM build.
Hi,
My second screen app icons periodically get really small (and kinda ugly) for no apparent reason. Then they get back to normal size also rather randomly. One way to get them back to normal is to turn off and on app icons.
I have no idea why this happens, and I don't even know how to take a screenshot of the second screen to show what it looks like.
Details: LG H990ds. Sept 2017 Android 7 running. Unrooted.

Details: LG H990ds. Sept 2017 Android 7 running. Unrooted.

I am working on mods for second screen(currently have partial text color control) and would like to see what your talking about?
This post has instructions for added Second screen to screenshots.
Also, it seems like I may have seen a setting for on/off app icons, but can't recall where?
Install another theme.this is unofficial themes issue.

This is one of the 2-3 themes that come with the phone by default.

The pictures look the same to me only the second one is slightly closer?
What is this potato you speak of? Haha
This is 100% a theming property. I wouldn't really say "issue" or "error" as much as I would say mistake, and that's o lt in the eye of the beholder.
This is a value setting within the theme itself.
The themer has set the theme to draw app icons on top of a series of backgrounds and they set the icon to be drawn at a percentage of the default app icon.
What I'm saying is the theme will, in this case, reduce the app icon to a smaller size then place it on top of one of the themes bg's.
Some icons have bg's as part of the actual app icon and some have only the icon (see attatched samples). Obviously icons that do not have a bg will blend into themes easier because the themes bg option will look more intended.
There are several options to fix this, but only one being easy.
1. The easy one does not get to keep the theme, you must change the theme to something that is visually acceptable to you
2. This is an option for users that have some experiance swapping images in an apk. Find the app which has an icon you don't like and use 7zip to open the apk and swap the image for one that appeals to your taste. Problem here is that thing can get overridden every time the apps gets updates. This can also trigger package errors due to signatures values and changes from original size.
3. Knowledge or modding a decompiles apk using apktool is required for this one.
Located the themes common.apk and decompile it.
Within the decompiled folders you will find a values folder, open the integer.xml and change this value to the value that fits your needs best (100 being 100% or the full original size) <integer name="config_icon_ratio_as_theme">65</integer>.
There are other ways that can do what you are wanting done, you just have to get creative with it!
You ask "how to take screenshots or second screen? You've asked this question twice now, obviously without reading the reply to the question the first time.
I persoanlly answered the question by pointing you to the link where you have options on how to add the feature you want.
This is a development community and i suggest spending a little more time reading and you'd be surprised with gow much you can find by doing a quick search.
So in summary, change you theme or learn to edit decompiled app with apktool.
Read every reply ro questions you ask so you and the people who take the time out of their days to answer you don't have to repeat themselves.
Hit the thanks button to post that givd you info that helps.
Good luck, good day and hope that sums up your question here

actually there's a bigger difference in real life, maybe the blurred second photo doesn't convey it well

The problem is, this size keeps changing randomly. I haven't changed the theme in 2 months, but the size switches between the correct size and the tiny one every few days. The theme itself is the 'Default Black' theme that came with the phone.

I saw the comment, replied to the first part but happened to miss that part out. Thanks for that.
Attaching clearer pics to demonstrate the size difference.
Again it doesn't happen when the theme is applied. The theme has been applied from the beginning.. It's the dark one that came with the phone.. The problem comes and goes randomly.
Same here! Usually it happens when I've moved around an app icon, doesn't matter if it's moved onto the second screen or onto a homescreen.
A restart usually resets the size to normal.
u/stangdriver44 u/3mL : I have found the reason for this.
It's due to the modification of DPI I did on the main screen. It seems this setting is inherited by the second screen off and on. I just reduced my DPI further to 400 and the second screen icons got even smaller.
Others have also reported this issue. (As on this reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/lgv20/comm...e_the_size_of_the_navigation_buttons/dnj6dko/)
Is there a way to de-link the DPI of the second screen with that of the first?
Im trying to reduce the size of those buttons, can youpeovide the dpi and resolution that you are at?

The one in the photo was at 420. I'm currently at 400, which makes for some really tiny icons.
EDIT: please note, that this resizing isn't constant, it gets turned on and off like a boolean such that sometimes it stays small, then returns to normal for a while.
