Any method to tether 4.4.2? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I've tried the method where you replace the TetherProvision files and it doesn't seem to work anymore. Is there any way to tether 4.4.2 right now?

Download selinux mode changer from the Play Store and use it to set to permissive then install safestrap.

In that thread i Write the way i use it and works great. First install xposed framework and after install the module kit kat sms+tether enabler. With that you can use that function, dont forget to enable it

Have you rebooted? I had that problem before. SU said no root. Rebooted and then it said I had root.

Yup. Once again I'm sph-l720 4.4.2. I'm really just wanting to root to delete bloat ware.
There should be no problem. Have you tried to install Super SU from the play store. This sometimes fixes the problem . after installing reboot and check again.

Root and recovery working on lollipop

I don't take credit for this, i am just giving a guide on how i was able to gain root and recovery on the Sprint Note 4 with Lollipop.
Let me start by saying i was running the Hybrid-X series rom. Here were my steps to upgrade to Lollipop and keep all my data. If you are on stock, skip this step.
1. Flash the stock rom tar found here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95853297432265112
2. Once you reboot, run system update and you will download and install Lollipop. When it installs and reboots, you should still have all your data and apps.
Once in lollipop, i followed our old root method which does work for lollipop found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/orig-development/sm-n910-cf-auto-root-t2897428
Now, to get recovery, you can do it 2 different ways.
1.download an app called flashify from the play store. Download the following file in .img form:
http://www.techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/trltespr
2. download the .tar file from above and flash in oodin.
Once you have both on your phone, open flashify, select recovery image and hit Yup! and then reboot. Your phone should reboot into TWRP.
At this point you will have all your data, root, and recovery. Enjoy

As a note, i would backup your data though any apps that you can. I wiped the data since the system seemed sluggish. When i restored thought titanium, there were a lot of apps that were crashing. Wiping the data to each app didn't work. I had to uninstall and re-install the app, but then you loose the data.
On a second note, once i wiped data in recover, lollipop was very nice and smooth.
Awesome good find have to try it out

This works if you already had TWRP installed?

I'm guessing once you flash the stock rom tar you get the stock recovery, that's why in step 3 you have to use flashify to get twrp back.

Once you flash the stock rom, and update to lollipop, you loose TWRP.

Nothings changed. Odin stock tar, odin cf autoroot, odin twrp 2.8.5... Just like kitkat.

TWRP works. I backed up 5.0.1, did a full wipe and restored it. No problem.
The only issue I have found so far, es file Explorer can no longer write to system or change file permissions. Bummer, I'll have to find another way to copy over my custom boot animations and sounds.

I'm asking because I read somewhere that Lollipop was a little more carrier friendly in blocking the hotspot feature unless it's been paid for. Can you verify that it works with Galaxy tools?

After the update, my sim is locked again. Galaxy Tools will no longer unlock for international use.
And it doesn't read the MSL either.
EDIT:
It does still add all the toggles.

We need to play with the kernel. If it was a matter of customization, applying the root patches first would have worked. As of now that hasn't worked either.

Edit: apparently I was violating forum rules, so I removed a link to 4PDA
mcaserg @ 4PDA makes what I believe is the best Note 4 Kernel...
Google "4pda.ru ultimate kernel", it's topic 620217
Use chrome or something to translate the page and register...
If you get a captcha, use the google translate app on your note 4 and copy down the characters as best you can using your S-Pen...
Once you're in, there is an option to disable captcha completely for your account...
I've been using Ultimate Kernel v51 rooted on stock official 5.1.1 COH4.
You just have to install the kernel via recovery (I use TWRP), and when you tap reboot system, TWRP recovery says "SU binary not detected, install?", tap "yes"... Once booted open SuperSU and update the SU Binary.
I've attached v51, for future releases go to 4PDA... (I wont keep this thread or post updated, sorry.)
If this helped, don't hesitate to click thanks.

You won't be able to receive OTA because of custom recovery, but I don't think there are going to be any major updates for this phone past OH1 (which was just stagefright patch(s)) unfortunately.

Correct.
Make sure you put SuperSU on SD card.
Boot phone to download mode.
In Odin uncheck reboot, after the flash is successful unplug phone and pull battery, then put battery back in and boot directly into recovery before boot the phone normally otherwise the recovery may not stick.

Adblocker

What's a good adblocker? I've tried Adaway but It doesn't work.
If you're using AdAway without root, you're right, it doesn't work. With root, it works fine.
If you don't have (or don't want) root, you can try Adguard: https://adguard.com/en/adguard-android/overview.html
AdAway works great for me. make sure you have updated your host file. If you are having issues with specific ads, you may need to manually add them to your blacklist.
