Grr, touchscreen issue + mic issue after update - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The previous owner claims updating to 4.4.2 via odin gave him issues, "black screen of death". I managed to root it, philz it, and installed aosp rom fine. But touchscreen doesn't work at all, not even in philz touch.
Another problem is touchwiz roms dont work at all (as said above, the give you blank screens). If i'm on aosp rom instead, I can't install aosp kernels.
Ideas? I'm really mad atm, wasted whole day on this ****.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2787847

Ideas? Possible problems? Or are some of them wrong idk. Please give your input
1. Is new boot loader/old boatloads possibly and issue?
2..Knox?
3. SELinux?????
4. His software updating somehow led to hardware fault within the touchscreen.
5. Motherboard failure? Or some internal chip failure?
My failed attempts:
Flashing pit
Flashing modem
Flashing stock rom (leads to black screen) (it could be possible that it's only black screen due to not configuring the Samsung rom yet.
Flashing aosp (no touch)
Ideas? Anything would be helpful really...

Well it can be 2 things:
1. You are flashing roms for other devices on your phone.
2. The touchscreen is broken.

Could be (1) but i asked the previous owner, he said he flashed some i9505xx eastern european rom.
Screen is flawless, idk how it is broken ><

What is the text on the sticker when you pull the battery out? What model is it?

EDIT: Btw, when I'm on touchwiz, It shows the "select language" page for a split second, before showing the black screen with the clock widget.

Looking again at your screenshot I can see what the problem is.
It looks similair to my phone when I have the cover on it (S view)
It look like this:
My guess is that you have a hardware failure. It looks like the sensor that triggers it mailfunctions. Also I think that the digitzer is broken. I don't think it happenend after a flash, seems really unlikely.
Sounds more like just failing hardware or maybe even water damage.

Yeah I thought it looked like the sview interface as well. But how does the phone detect it's sview cover anyway? Proximity? If it's proximity, I tested the proximity sensor by installing "Android sensor box" and it seemed to work according to the app. All sensors work except "orientation" which is weird since I can tilt the phone into landscape mode.
Someone said it was magnetic sensor. Android sensor box shows it working. Unless it uses a separate proprietary magnetic sensor.

[Q] Wildfire Screen Issues....HELP!!!

I have a weird problem with my Wildfire's screen after I did an OTA upgrade to Froyo.
First, the top of the screen stopped working. The taskbar wouldn't work and I the top wasn't responding. All of a sudden, after approximately a month or so, it started working again.
It worked fine for a few weeks and then the right side of the screen has a problem. All of a sudden it started automatically hitting the spot on the screen where the letter "P" would appear on the keyboard. When I was trying to type out a message, the letter "P" would get hit on its own over and over again. When the keyboard was not open, it would still happen.
I felt it might be a virus, so I did a hard reset. This still didn't stop. So I switched off my phone and kept it in a desk for 48 hours. When I switched it on again, this problem stopped, but the right side of my phone was not responsive (approximately 4 milimeters of it).
I can see that this is clearly not a hardware problem and has something to do with the firmware/OS. I'm not too sure what to do. I've tried flashing new ROMs on to my phone, but it remains the same way.
Incidently, when I tried flashing "TheNextSense" ROM on to my phone, the phone started hitting the portion of the screen where the "P" key would appear. When I switched back to CM7, it stopped, but the right side was unresponsive.
Is this something to do with the memory? Or is this a known issue with upgrades/certain ROMs?
Any help will be appreciated. This is driving me crazy
why do you think its not a harware problem ?
for me it sounds like it is one. (temperature or short circuit problem)
IANAHRM (I Am Not An HTC Repair Man) but I think the touch screen connector has just slightly worn loose, perhaps due to temperatures. It sits on the right side of the main board (left side of the phone itself). I know the Wildfire can survive quite a motion shock so that shouldn't be it (I hope).
Nandroid backup and restore jobs heat up my phone quite a bit, did this occur on your device as well while you were installing roms? That might explain the change in behaviour.

Nope. It's never heated up till now. This happened all of a sudden, and it gets worse with upgrades. It's like, for some reason, the phone isn't able to function properly with any ROM other than the stock ROM. I'm going to try to put back eclair on it today and see whether it works. Will keep you posted.

Because it doesn't always occur. It kind of gets fixed on its own after a few days. It's like my phone has a ghost in it
I put back the stock Froyo ROM and now the problem is 50% better - much of the portion of the screen that was dead earlier is now responding. But the rest still isn't. Any ideas? :-(

Screen not displaying correctly (Green block lines, moving down the screen) - Fix???

Phone Specs
Stock O.S (5.0.1)
Rooted (and as a result, has voided the warranty)
I9505 Version
Battery in phone is Stock Battery
What Happened
I was using Instagram on my Samsung Galaxy S4 (i9505), after leaving it for a few minutes. Upon returning and pressing the home button, the screen began to fill with green block lines moving down the screen (as on the video).
Current Issues
When I turn my phone on, the center of the screen is filled with green block lines moving down the screen (as on the video). Rather than showing my installed apps etc.
The same occurs when I try to use recovery and download modes
Videos and Screenshots
I have uploaded a video and screenshots of what my phone currently looks like on boot, after the above:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=nlCvsjQEqkY
I've checked, there are no marks or damage to the screen.
And upon unscrewing the phone and looking at the motherboard etc., there doesn't seem to be any damage to the hardware either as below:

Just because you see no physical damage to the motherboard does not mean that the motherboard isn't the culprit. Another gentleman was having a similar screen issue and ended up reflowing (applying heat so the existing solder melts) the GPU in an attempt to fix it. I don't recall if he did get it fixed or not, but whether he did or didn't isn't relevant. What is relevant is that you clearly have a hardware issue here. Take the phone in for service.

Have you had experience with this fault before, do you know what the exact culprit is and how to repair? Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Free mobile app
There could be multiple causes for the problem you're having. That's why I recommended taking it in for service.
Although I'm glad someone has responded to my thread, you haven't actually told me anything of any real usefulness. Instead you've just told me to get it fixed (which is why I've came to this forum, so I could be told how to fix it myself)
My primary reasoning for coming to this forum, was to be pointed in the right direction when it comes to fixing the hardware i.e. replace this or that cable etc.
If you could help in that regard, this would be fantastic
No, I told you to take it to the service center, because they can pinpoint exactly what is causing the problem. Otherwise you're tossing darts blindfolded. You're guessing where the bullseye is and hoping you hit it. In short, it's not something you can fix yourself, unless you happen to have a solder reflow workstation.

I replaced the battery and the charging port and after putting it together a perfect radius of blue has formed on the right side of the screen. Touchscreen is still working just fine on the whole screen. Any suggestions for how to fix this? There isn't an cracks on the screen. Any suggestions? Is it possible I bent a pin on any of the ribbons? Could someone point out which ribbons go to the screen hardware? Maybe I can get a magnifying glass and figure out which ribbons needs replaced. Thanks for the help.

Go look in one of the many bootloop threads.... but not here- this thread is not related at all with the BLOD.
Ok, finally saw your photo. It does appear to be a cable issue, unfortunately it would likely be the screen cable in which case you would have to replace the entire screen to fix it.

The black cable that is only partially exposed on one end?
Not sure which one you're talking about. The one on the right of the motherboard that goes under the battery is for the LCD I would also check that no filters around the connection have been damaged.

[HELP] OnePlus 5 - weird LCD problem

Greetings dear people of this forum!
Few days ago my phone's display started behaving in a very weird way (could be a minor drop down).
When I press the power button to draw the pattern, the whole screen is full of disturbed horizontal lines (pic_1).
If I apply some pressure on the screen's bottom right corner (pic_1 - red dot) it gets back to normal and doesn't even flickering at all (pic_2).
Howerver as soon as the display goes off because of the turn off time, too close to the face when making a call or just switch it off with the power botton, the problem reaccures.
I am very sure it is hardware related, because on the screenshots there is nothing like that and it is persist in the boot sequence. In my opinion this is some kind of faulty connection, I have already take the phone apart to catch any loose connector, but nothing changed after that.
I feel like I have to buy a new screen, but I hope I can repair it somehow, because it can works very well after my acupuncture therapy.
I have bought the phone second-hand, and I know there was a screen replacement, so its not the original one.

Could also be any gaps or something that can cause the lines(display gets pressure from wrong installation).
2 options basically. Loose connector or faulty LCD.
I don't think it's software related.
If you can give it back, then you should. If not, then you can either try to fix it by yourself by replacing the LCD assembly (with the touch digitiser).

Yes, You were right, as I thought too. The reason behind the problem was the LCD.
I have replaced it and now it works like a charm.

Poco m3 touchscreen failure

I just got my poco m3 from Aliexpress and noticed that frequently the touch fail on the sides of the screen. Like when I hit the back arrow on the top left or the "?123" button in the gboard. It feels laggy and if i'm typping fast then hit the ?123 button usually dont recognize the touch and I have to hit 2 or 3 times. Can it be the glass film that's reducing the touchscreen sensibility ? I'm afraid of remove it and have to return the phone later without the glass.
Might be faulty or just lagging. The first few version of the rom was super slow
Mine doesn't have this problem, and I am using a glass screen protector.
Edit: I am using Google Zhuyin Input, I just tried to type really fast in it, and pressed "?123" after typing fast, it only went to the numpad when I pressed it the second time, so I think this should be normal. But the back arrow on the top left corner always works on my phone, I tested this with Google Play.
I noticed that when i'm typing with the phone on horizontal this doesn't happen, its weird. I think some parts of the screen are not working well. I'm gonna have to return the phone.

Guys, I think this has to do with a setting "Prevent accidental touch on the edges" or similar i saw earlier but now I can not find it anymore in the Settings app
My POCO M3 also has this issue, and I notice there are two area (red box in picture below) exist this problem.
If you press "q", "a", then press "?123" in fast speed, the "?123" button will not respond.
If you press "p", "l", then press "↲" in fast speed, the "↲" button will not respond either.

Apparently its a common hardware issue in the screen. If I type with the phone in horizontal the issue doesn't occurs. I just got used to it, didn't want to replace the phone cus it takes a long time to the phone to get at China and return to me cus the post service in my contry is horrible.

yes, i think this is a common problem among not poco but whole xiaomi devices as per this thread
https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/haf1f9
It's interesting that so few people report about this issue. I gave the phone to my gf and she didn't realize any problems, although the phone had shown the same issue.
Either most people simply don't recognize it as a problem, think they are hitting the wrong button, or the problem is a rare issue on certain phones.
I took a video showing the issue on my Poco M3. I have contacted the support and send them the video, too, but only got the standard reply (update software, use safe mode, blahblah).
Any update can solve this problem? Please brother tell me. i am also suffering this problem
I also have the same problem, unfortunately I broke the screen so the service center will probably reject my case
