Thanks for the reply.
I was already on NC1, so flashing NB1 will work?
Yes. Read the thread and you have all the information you will require.

I am really sorry for asking all the noob questions. Its all because I am really scared right now.
Can you please provide me the steps to flash NB1 on my phone?
Also I have NC1 backup using Safestrap after I root my phone, so will I be able to restore it after I flash NB1?
Thanks a lot.

on top of stock rom, my stock rom was JeallyBean 4.2.2 i337 mf3 not mdl and i read there are no mf3 files for odin
So i managed to fix this problem just by downloading stock rom for my phone and flashing with safestrap: Galaxy S4 rooted Stock ROM AT&T SGH-i337 MF3 (i found that on google)
The rom i downloader is rooted. and it said to install Loki after finishing flashing rom but i managed not to.
after you finished flashing you need to install also: jflteatt-MF3-modules(attachment) : this will make your wifi to work.
Every thing i just said, worked for me! do this at your own risk! im not responsible for any damages!!!
Wait what if you flash MDL with safestrap, and use goo.im for TWRP? It could possibly brick but just an idea.

It wouldn't. The bootloader is still MF3 no matter what you do to the system, and so it will still be locked with no way to bypass it.
Hi,
My S4 got bricked a while back and at that time the 4.3 leak was the only thing available to revive my phone.
I'm on 4.3 MJ6 firmware. I was wondering if there was a way to root that or update to a different version and root that instead.
Trying to get safestrap back on my phone as well, missing it from MF3 :crying:
Thanks in advance! :good:

either go with Heimdall or do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47586777&postcount=135
This will wipe data if the other method doesn't, i don't know though.
I have bricked my phone by wiping data on the stock ROM with safestrap. I immediately regretted that decision. It was hung on the Galaxy S4 screen. I could get into recovery and download mode. I tried to flash the stock MF3 files using Odin, but it fails during write. Any ideas? I'm trying to find an MK2 stock image.
Thanks!
Edit: Found the TAR here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2621279
Get the mk2 tar files and flash with odin. You'll be good as new.

You search for how to Odin a stock image on your device. Hint: the general section has many posts on this.

Yes, but as an fyi, there is no direct root method for nb1. So if you're looking for root you might want to consider mk2

Then you're going to want this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49687770
Use saferoot to root. You can Google it
Edit, look in the general forum and read up on mk2 and nb1. You can get a rooted nb1 rom on your phone with safestrap. But do some homework before you decide doing it.

I am running stock AT&T 4.2.2 MF3 rooted with Motochopper, I believe.
An OTA downloaded on my device today, NC1 I guess? I knew I couldn't install it because either it would fail after detecting root, or I would potentially brick.
I wanted to update to stock NB1 or NC1 (maintaining or re-establishing root afterward).
The MF3 update threads I have found seem outdated.
Please let me know what the safest way to flash the latest stock that is rootable.
Thanks in advance.

Hello, Sixftsix, I am in the same boat as you. MF3 rooted wanting to upgrade to NC1. Did it successfully work for you? The files say NB1 to NC1 not MF3 to NC1 so I was just wondering if it worked. Also what version of Safestrap did you use?
Thank you very much!

I haven't upgraded yet, I'm still confused on what is the proper/safest method.
I am not sure if we have to go from MF3 > MK2 > NB1 > NC1... or if we can go directly to NB1 with this: "NB1 STOCK -- Get to NB1 Stock from NB1 or earlier... I337UCUFNB1 4.4 Stock Odin Tar & System Dump", then use the NB1 to NC1 method.
Let me know if you attempt anything and the results, I will do the same. I did lot of reading with no clear answers.
If anyone can confirm the best method, I would appreciate your help!

Apparently you need to upgrade to MK2, root, then do MK2 to NB1, and then NB1 to NC1. Its a process. I think I'll just stick with 4.2.2 until a root method is available for KitKat then I'll just upgrade to KitKat instead of flashing because I always have bad luck when it comes to soft modding...
Good luck.

If you want NB1, you can flash straight to it with the ODIN package. If you want root, you can flash to either MK2 or NB1 but going to NB1 adds in the downgrade steps.

Thank you! One question. I use Linux so I wouldn't be using ODIN I would be flashing with Heimdall. Same thing right?

Slightly different. You'll have to extract the partitions to flash from the ODIN file since it doesn't work with ODIN packages directly. Alternatively, you could try JODIN3.
