No, it will either just error or complete but nothing will happen. Plenty have tried and come on xda complaining it does not work, only to find they had boot unlock allowed: no

What you need to download:
EasyRootTool v3.zip
Towelroot apk
UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.00.zip - save on phone's storage
Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.7.125-BETA.installer.zip
Here's what I did to root my Z1 (C6903) with .727 stock firmware
1. Follow this guide: click here
- download EasyRootTool v3.zip (v3) from the link and save it on your desktop PC
- extract the zip on your desktop (on your PC not on your phone)
- download towelroot apk from towelroot.com
- save tr.apk in the "files" folder of EasyRootTool v3 (the one you extracted previously)
- connect your phone (make sure usb debugging and unknown sources is turned on)
- click on "install.bat"
- connect your phone to your PC
- follow on screen instructions
2. Phone will reboot but will have no SuperSu yet. Do not reboot again (for now)!
4. Download UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.00.zip and save it on your phone's SD card (internal or external)
3. Download Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.7.125-BETA.installer.zip and save it on your desktop PC
- extract Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.7.125-BETA.installer.zip file on desktop
- run install.bat
- choose option #2
- connect phone
- you should have custom recovery now
3. If phone does not auto reboot to recovery, manually reboot to recovery
- turn off phone
- turn phone back on
- wait for sony logo then a pink notification led to light up
- press the up volume button to boot in Philz recovery
4. Once in recovery flash UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.00.zip
5. Reboot system and you should be able to install xposed and other root apps!

After seeing the same question over and over again, I'm going to try to make a step by step guide for install this ROM.
So that the main tread will be as clean as possible.
In the second post, I will post tips and the most commen Q & A.
If you want to discuss about this ROM, please do that here
Now let's get started...............
First you need to unlock your boatloader.
You can read and ask ALL of your questions about unlocking here
(If you don't have a unlocked boatloader, there is a solution for that. But I suggest to unlock your boatloader. FXP team make this for unlocked bootloader. So you be warned. If you still want to install this with a locked bootloader, I suggest to go to cobrato tread, thank him for this.)
When you have a unlocked bootloader you are good to go to install this beautiful ROM .
THE ROMS ARE NUMBERED BY WEEK NUMBER.
I call the ROM FXP(week number), because I don't always have time to keep this up_to_date. Sorry for that!
Download the 2 files in this post (FXP(week number) & GAPPS ADDON)
FXP(week number) will be called something like this: update-cm-7.2.0-RC0-es209ra-KANG-signed
There are 3 files in update-cm-7.2.0-RC0-es209ra-KANG-signed
#Flashtool
#FXP(week number)
#unlock
Unzip those files on your PC
Put the map FXP(week number) (The one you just unzipped) and GAPPS ADDON (the one you have download at the start) somewhere on your SDcard.
Open flashtool and run the X10FlashTool.exe
No press Flash.
You will see just one file.
#x10i
Now flash that one, with this you will get the CWM.
After this reboot your phone en press repeatedly on the back button till you enter CWM.
Here you do:
1) wipe data/factory reset
2)wipe cauche partition
3)advanced ====> wipe Dalvik Cache
Now you can install the ROM:
1)Install zip from SDcard =====> choose zip from sdcard ===> and then go to the place where you have left FXP(week number) on your sdcard.
2)install now GAPPS ADDON, the same way you have install FPX(week number).
When it's done reboot your phone and enjoy
If I have write something what isn't correct.
PM me and I will edit it correctly.
To keep this up-to-date, also PM me for the bugs or tips.
So that I don't need to read every single post.
Thanks in advance
.

I found this from the past few releases and some people complained about battery drainage so I tried to find the source and this is what I found.
J said they set it to performance so that the phone will be faster and easier to test out features.

Maybe someone here can help me. I've followed those instructions but when I go to CWM based recovery and pick install from sd card it keeps saying cannot mount /sdcard
xrecovery on the other hand reads it just fine.
Maybe this is related to other roms not detecting my sd card.
Any suggestions?
Has anyone tried to flash dooms fxp for unlocked bootloaders with CM7??

Read the op mate, it tells you how to install the rom, the part that says flash the fxp firmware with flashtool will give you the correct recovery, you can not use Dooms cwm's as you also need the kernel in FXP.
From the op....
Now flash FXP, with this you will get the CWM.

Any ideas guys? I even flashed back to 2.1 and started over but in CWM I keep getting can't mount /sdcard
Can you please give us some more info?
What exactly have you did?
Like, do you have a unlocked bootloader? Did the flashtool say that it was successful?
What kind of baseband do you have. Etc etc.

Yes, I have an unlocked bootloader. The Free Xperia screen comes up and I press the back button to get into recovery.
I'm running the .71 baseband and have had no problems flashing from flashtool.
Before I was running a custom 2.3.3 rom and I unlocked the bootloader, flashed in the FXP custom kernel and got the same problem of mounting sd card in recovery.
I just went back to stock 2.1 (This rom reads my sd card just fine), flashed .71 baseband, flashed FXP kernel and still got the same error when I entered recovery to install custom zip.
Why mounting sdcard?
If you put the right files before flashing on your card. You don't need to mount your card.
Can you access your card trough the menu?
Install zip from sdcard?
Edit.. i was reading your latest post on xda and are you sure that you have successful unlocked your bootloader/
in HOW-TO]UNLOCK bootloader for X10 you find a tool in the second post (s1tool.7z).
If I rember it correctly, when you run it you can see 2 different things in the fist line
RUNNING S1_EROM VER "R8A013" ======> locked bootloader
or
RUNNING S1_EROM VER "r8A013" ======> unlocked bootloader
(can anyone confirm this?)

That's the thing, when I go to install custom zip from the menu it gives me an error that says "Can't mount /sdcard"
edit: Yes, I ran the tool and the r was lowercase. I even did recover to relock the bootloader and the R became uppercase and I again unlocked it.
edit2: I think I should mention this..whenever I flash a 2.3 rom whether it's stock or custom, the rom does not detect my sd card. Once I go back to 2.1 it does. Do you know why this is the case?
Hi,
Let me know what I do wrong.... despite of turning ON debbuging in settings options during FXP flashing via Flash Tool I,ve got permanently error " turn on debbiging...." but It is already done.
What should I do to make a progress.... baseband .71, bootloader loocked.

It's because you haven't unlocked your bootloader, the phone would not allow you to flash unsigned .sin files, which means you can't flash the FXP kernel.

Are you saying that after flashing the kernel it still says turn on debugging bla bla? That's normal. See if it shows freexperia upon turning on your phone.
If not, then you have not unlocked your bootloader.

In mounts and storage it only gives me the option to mount sd and when I select that it gives me the same error. Xrecovery works fine but I can't flash cm7 with that.
I've made the leap and installed this ROM. First of all I want to say how brilliant it is and it'll obviously only get better. I've also installed FXP28 on my wife's x8 with similar results. Great work FXP team!
So on to my problem... when I go to bed my phone has switched itself off and my alarm hasn't gone off. When I switch it back on there was still 20 odd % battery remaining. This has happened twice. I've been running the govener on 'on demand'. One thing that is odd is that the phone has a flashing green light which presumably means it is in fact not off. The only way to wake it up though is to hold the power button.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
Ok. Another problem. Cannot get wifi tether to work at all... also USB tethering doesn't work and could only get barnacle to work with no security.
Is anyone having success with tethering.
PS. I never had a problem with my previous rom - Wolf's!

I managed to use giefroot root my D6603 (US version) on firmware 23.0.1.A.5.77 by downgrading to 23.0.A.2.93 without wiping the whole /data.
This is what I did: (Try at your own risk!)
1 Backup the contacts first. The contacts data will be cleared.
2 Use Flashtool to flash D6603_23.0.A.2.93_Generic_20GLOBAL.ftf. Uncheck wipe DATA.
3 Restart the device. There will be lots of annoying force close popups. For me, only two packages were reported closing: android.process.acore and android.process.media. USB debugging doesn’t work either.
4. Just close the popups and go to Settings – Apps – All. Find “Media Storage” and press “clear data” to get rid of FCs of android.process.media. USB debugging should work now.
5. Find “Contacts Storage” and press “clear data”. No more FCs of android.process.acore.
After this, no more FC popups for me. It looked normal on fw 2.93 and I tried many times to use giefroot v2 but failed. It seems like that the system exploit app CVE-2014-7911 will crash android.
6. I tried clearing data of more apps. After clearing ApplicationSettings and ConfigUpdater, giefroot v2 worked! I don’t know which one is the key. Can anyone confirm?
Hope it's helpful for you.

Yes, you are right. After my steps, one still needs to follow the instructions of giefroot by zxz0O0:
How to use
Download the tool (latest version) and extract it
Start your device and plug it to your computer
Put your device in air plane mode
Run install.bat and follow the instructions on screen
Congratulations! You should now be rooted. If you get an error "Device not rooted", try running the tool a second time.

thanks for this useful tip. Step 6 was not needed with D6603_23.0.A.2.98_Customized_20DE.ftf and giefroot v2.

There's already a pre-rooted version which you can flash in recovery
Thanks for this guide!
The only problem I'm having is, once rooted and with the dual-recovery installed, I can't decrypt my device in TWRP. It asks for my password, but tells me it's wrong and just asks for the password again. If I choose 'cancel' it continues but won't load anything off my sd card/internal. So I can't flash the update to .77
Anyone know why this might be?

I seem to have gotten around this for now by using adb push to copy the file to the /tmp folder of my device. I still can't access internal storage, which is a pain, but at least I can finish the steps to get back to .77 (and hopefully Lollipop soon!).

Sorry that I know nothing about the decryption. After a quick search, it seems to me probably a bug of TWRP (github.com/TeamWin/Team-Win-Recovery-Project/issues/247).

Friends have achieved to root my phone, it also improves the latest system version and everything is great I put the dual recovery 2.8.2 and of there add Xposed. But after a day in the early morning the phone started to constantly reboot, try to get into recovery mode and freezes with the logo of Sony. turn off and turn on in normal mode, install the recovery again and I wipe cache and dalvik, every normal by day and in the early morning again restarts. Start the phone, don't make any initial setup. Skip it and go directly to Settings > About Phone. Tap 7 times on Buld number and a Developer options will be activated.
Go to Settings > Developer options and tick USB debugging an Allow mock locations.
Go to Settings > Security and tick Unknown sources, untick Verify apps.
Enter your phone in Flight mode

Connect your phone to the computer.
Start install.bat
If until that moment you have never connected you phone to this PC via adb you will get a popup message on you phone to authorize this computer. Do it.
The procedure will start. After a while your phone should restart by itself.
After the phone boots up wait until a popup from SuperSu appears asking for adb shell root rights. Do it.
When you give the permission you have to see on the computer the sign "Device rooted".
If it says Device not rooted repeat all the steps running install.bat again.

"Drivers need to be installed for connected device"
Why? I selected which FTF fw file the flashtool should be using, but it's still giving me this error. So strange that no one has had this issue, even though no guide mentions that one needs to install these drivers... :S

Maybe others actually install the drivers then
Goto C:\Flashtool\Drivers
and run
drivers.exe
Choose fastboot, flashmode and Z3 drivers
Then try again. The guides also do not mention that you have turn the PC on, some sort of self help in overcoming errors does help. If it says drivers need to be installed, install them...
PS, also there is never a need to quote the whole OP, I will edit that out for you

@[g-face] a few quick questions that I saw some ppl were having issues w/
(I'm running d6603 global, .77FW)
Read / Write r/w system access is solved from what I understand - correct?
Read / Write r/w to SD card solved as well (read a few quick comments about ppl experiencing issues w/ this).
Some people were experiencing issues w/ Xposed not working (r/w or something), can you please point me to a good guide on how to get Xposed running well w/ no issues foreseeable.
Again, really appreciate this. Cheers.

Choose the flashmode and fastboot drivers as well
If you are running Windows 8/8.1 you need to allow installation of unsigned drivers.
No problems with rw access if you follow the steps. Xposed installs normaly, as always, no problem installing it.
Rw access to SD is solved by installing SDfix from Market. I did it, and it's working as expected.

hm that's weird.. anyway let's try it another way then
1. Download Super-Root.apk for LG Leon from this link : Download or http://downloadsafe.org/file/0yF980
2. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.
3. Copy the Super-Root.apk over to the root of your SD card.
4. Once it’s been copied, disconnect your device from your PC.
5. Head to Menu>>Settings>>Security on your device and enable the Unknown sources option.
6. Open the File Manager app on your device and install the app you copied earlier to your device.
7. Once the app’s been installed, launch it from your App Drawer.
8. Select Install SuperSU from the first dropdown menu.
9. Select exploit, tap on it in the app.
10. The app should begin rooting your device, shouldn’t take too long to finish.
11. Reboot your device once it’s been rooted.
12. You’re all done! Excellent! You’ve successfully rooted your Android device using the Super-Root.apk app and you should now be able to see the SuperSU app in your App Drawer!

Hi! So i created this thread because I am experienced to rooting and flashing recoveries etc. but i was new to xperia world.
So when i wanted to flash new recovery, i had too many questions and little answers.
However, i did it
Ofcourse, with help of @kwstas13 none of this would be possible
So, how to install recovery and root to get most out of yours Z3c with locked bootloader?
1. Ure phone needs to have more than 50% battery.
2.Download flashtool. DOWNLOAD
Download all 3 file attachments from thread made by @russel5 DOWNLOAD
Download superuser mod from thread made by @Rajeev (For 291 Build)DOWNLOAD
Download SuperSU from THIS link
3.Once everything is downloaded, copy superuser mod amd superSU to the phone.
Install flashtool, navigate to its folder, and open folder called Drivers and install following drivers: Flashmode drivers, fastboot drivers and xperia z3 compact drivers.
4.Find kernel575.zip and kernel291.zip, rename them to kernel575.ftf and kernel291.ftf.
Copy kernel 575.tft to C:\Users\(username)\.flashTool\firmwares\
5. Start flashtool as admin, press black lighting and then press flashmode. For source, navigate to C:\Users\(username)\.flashTool\firmwares\
Under firmware tab, you should see Xperia Z3 Compact, press arrow to the left to open D5804 tab, press againt to open stock kernel tab, press again to open the kernel. Click on the kernel and click flash
Flashtool will give you instructions to finish the flash.(One tab will pop up, press no)
6. After flashing kernel, turn on the phone. Check kernel build date > Settings > About phone. If it's April 22, 2016, you successfully flashed the 575 firmware. The 291 kernel is dated June 28, 2016.
Open developer options and enable USBdebugging and plug phone to the pc.
7. Extract recovery_for_mm575.zip to the desktop, run install.bat as admin(be sure that flashtool is closed and install.bat and its folder are on desktop). After it finishes, phone will restart to the recovery.
8. In recovery, go to install tab, navigate to zips you placed on the phone. Flash ''SuperSU-v2.78-201609011115.zip'' and flash ''superuser_238_291.zip'' file, then reboot system and check if theres a superSU app in app drawer.
9. Turn off the phone, now using previous steps you need to flash kernel291.ftf placing it in the same folder you placed kernel575.ftf. Make sure to delete kernel575.ftf.
After flashing it, using previous steps make sure you have right kernel by checking kernel build date(june28,2016)
10. Thats it. If u have any questions, I'll be answering them under 5mins... I really hope this helps and clears something for u.
Huge thanks to @kwstas13
If u have any questions or requests for guides, please ask me and I'll look into it.
Cheers for the guide. I'm just curious if anyone has tried this yet? Am I right in thinking this keeps the DRM intact?
Perhaps I'm being blind here too, but I can't find the "Download SuperSU from attachment on this post" ... can't see the attachment.
thanks for the guide, it worked successfully.
mentioned SuperSU 2.78 flashable zip can be downloaded here: http :// www . supersu . com / download (sorry for spaces, forum engine does not allow me to post external URLs)
I also encountered an error when installing Flashtool drivers, my Win 7 refused to execute DPInst.exe. to solve the issue I did the following:
1. do not close the error message so files from %USER_DIRECTORY%\AppData\Local\Temp\Flashtool would not be removed.
2. choose the Windows Vista SP2 compatibility mode to run your dpinst*.exe (e.g. dpinst64.exe).
3. run dpinst*.exe.
4. close the error message.
5. continue installing other Flashtool drivers in a normal way.

Yeah I saw that by reading a few other posts. I should have been a little less lazy.
Your guide is really helpful, but mind if I make two suggestions?
In step 4.
4.Find kernel575.zip and kernel291.zip, rename them to kernel575.ftf and kernel291.ftf.
Copy kernel 575.tft to C:\Users\(username)\.flashTool\firmwares\

The location "C:\Users\(username)\.flashTool\firmwares" will not exist until you run Flashtool, it only creates those folders upon its first run. Flashtool needs to be run before step 4 happens.
The second suggestion was regarding "recovery_for_mm575.zip". I had to run install.bat as admin twice. I don't know why, both times gave me the same success message prompt, but for whatever reason it only worked on the second attempt.
Thanks again for posting buddy.

Flash recovery without root?
Hi, thanks a lot for posting this. Is it possible to flash recovery but not root, i.e. skip the steps where you flash SuperSU? I'm running stock .291 MM with LB on my Z3C.
I ask because I want to flash panzerox123's awesome-sounding stock-based ROM and keep using Android Pay.
Thanks!
