I tried to add my company email on my rooted S5 and got to the encryption step where it told me to charge my phone to 80% and plug in and that it could take an hour. I didn't do it, and backed out. It did make me create a pin although, I may have had the pin enabled from FoxFi requirement. Regardless. I just did the Xposed Framework and tried the disable exchange pin, and it wouldn't let me. So I tried to unlink my work account and reboot. It still held on to needing the Pin/Password. I'm not exactly sure what's going on with it right now, but currently, I do not have FoxFi installed or my work email linked, and all the lock screen options are greyed out except for password. So I tried to clear the credentials and it's greyed out (turned off by administrator, encryption policy or credential storage) too. I'm also not sure if my phone is encrypted or not, because the message under Security > Encrypt Device says "80% battery, takes an hour, and plug in" (as if it's not encrypted), but the Encrypt External SD Card below says "SD card encryption has been turned on / Selected options - full encryption".
I would just like to go back to normal, but I'm not sure how. I've also seen that if you factory reset the phone that the encryption isn't removed. Can someone help please? Thanks in advance.
how about http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880 ? Will get you back to stock for sure....
Any one else? This is what I'm actually trying to avoid, but wool if I have to. Anyone with a suggestion that doesn't involve resetting my phone?
One last thing though, if I do end up odin-ing, do I need to do the optional repartition step in the instructions to make sure that are areas of my phone ate decrypted?

He all, I'm running across a couple of issues in testing out the 8125 functionalitiy.
8125 with the MSFP upgrade obtained from here (Awesome Job!!)
1. when remote wiping the PDA; Whoever has the PDA gets prompted to allow following the security policies (wiping the device)
Now don't ge tme wrong, I love the optimistic attitude that someone wouldn't want to see what is on my device but it seems the unauthorized recipient of the device would have to have an IQ 2 lower than kelp to select |YES|
2. placing some directories on the mini SD fails after soft reset;
I have experimented with keeping temporary internet files and email folders on the SD card which works great... until you soft reset.. At which point the device creates a "/Storgae Card/email" directory on internal storage.
re: remote wipe.
We do not see the behavior you are mentioning. Choosing remote wipe immediately resets then wipes the machine and re-wipes it every time we attempt to re-connect until the remote wipe command itself is terminated in mobile admin.
In fact, I bricked an 8125 while testing this feature and had to re-flash to fix it. It seems that if you hit the reset button after the Qtek screen is displayed immediatly after the remote wipe is initiated, it slowly dissolves into a blank white screen and from that point, resetting won't go any further than the Qtek splash. I assume this had something to do with me resetting while the ROM was being initialized...

ok got this one solved. I had to delete the device from the exchange server and recreate the config. After this I did a wipe and poof!! no data!!
Now, any ideas how I could wipe the mini SD too?
Or better yet a way to push a specific password to the device?
Thanks,

I keep getting a notification that a system update is available but after it downloads and tries to install, I get the error "the update is invalid and has been canceled"
Did this six times with the same result. What's going on?

Assuming you are not rooted or modded, the only thing I did (and always do) is remove my transflash card before I do an update. If you DO mod or have root, maybe it's something else.
So my recommendation for now is to remove your msd card, that is if you even have one plugged in and then download and apply the update. If you don't have one in there, no suggestions here right now. I am stock, have never rooted or modded my system and my OTA was perfection. It downloaded and updated without a hitch.
GL, let me know how it goes.
not rooted but I did have an SD card inserted. Removed it and the OTA was successful! Thanks!!

Good to hear! Now you know.
Enjoy your Iconia.
Realllllly interested to know why the sd card is causing the update to fail, that's strange.
if you download the patch fix from Acer support site, it also fix the "the update is invalid and has been canceled" error. That is how I solved the problem. It is good to know that the SD card is the main cause as I also inserted my SD card.
What about Acer informing about those "how to do" basic things.

We have 3 Acer 500's ( NOT Rooted) in our family, two of them got the updates without any problems.......one even had an external sd card in it.
However, the third unit has NO sd-card and is NOT able to complete the update.
I hate to perform a factory (hard) re-set on it, as this unit has many apps installed.
Any new suggestions would be grately appreciated.

Not your post, it was what I wrote.... Just didn't drank my morning coffee and I wrote something not relevant to help you. Sorry for the confusion
Perhaps the 3.2 OTA update is getting corrupted during the download. It seems to be a zip file of some 357 MB.
Does anyone know in which folder the zip file is stored, and the name of the file?
I'm thinking I could try to delete the file and download it again. Then try to install it
My goal is to avoid a Factory (hard) reset.
For those posting that they're not rooted, it may be helpful to also note if it ever was rooted previously. I unrooted, or thought I did, and was getting hung at the Bee logo with an "!". I had to re-root, unintall anything related to root, including reflashing the stock rom, reversing everything that USB Mount All had done, re-enable the phone checking services and uninstall the battery saving app afterwards, THEN I was able to successfully update. Turns out I really didn't have a need for root access.
I had the same error message and tried twice before it finally went through the third time. I was rooted, but with the stock ROM. I also had an SD card in and removed it for my second try. I did not remove root for any of my attempts. On my third try, I left the SD card in and it updated. Wish we could get some consistency so we could try and determine the cause(s).

2 stupid and 1 not so stupid question(s), but I have to get it out of the way.
Do you have it plugged in? The tablet may not update if the battery is too low.
The other silly question - how much space is it reporting as free? I don't know if this issue still persists for some, but I remember reading a while back where people's tablets were mysteriously 'filled up'. Since you have lots of apps anyway, could you check to make sure you have enough space free?
Finally, are you setting the tablet and wifi to never turn off? I always make sure my wifi is set to always on (which it usually is set to anyway) and also that my screen timer is set to 30m or Never so it doesn't turn off. Just in case it matters. 30m for small updates, Never for large ones.
The file is supposed to download again if it doesn't work - does it not? I have no idea where it goes. A dev may be able to help you there. If you need it to re-download, I think you can just perform a manual check and it should ask you if you want to get it. (I think).
Since some people have reported that the update works WITH the sd card in there - perhaps you can try some reverse psych. and pop in a msd, see if that works.
Let me know how it goes or if you got it to work.
Interesting questions and comments. The answer to all 3 is Yes, Yes, Yes.
Thanks.
This is why I love coming to THIS forum. So many more ideas that help identify and solve the issue. Most of the other forums I looked at said "factory reset, hard reset, factory reset, hard reset..." I come here, and I see "unseat the MSD card, set wifi to always on, set screen blackout to 30 mins, etc." And VOILA! Success!
Mine is a US-based unrooted A500, 16 gig MicroSD card, and lots of apps. I was dreading the thought of doing a hard reset, as I didn't want to lose all the apps (and the info stored therein), and have to spend the better part of a day restoring everything (had to do it before; this is my second A500, as the first was stolen at the Ostiense train station in Rome). So here are the ideas I took from the above posts to get the update to work:
1 - In "Settings" set Wi-Fi Turn Off to "Never" or "Never if plugged in."
2 - Also in "Settings" set Screen Turn Off to "30 minutes."
3 - Power off your tablet, and remove the Micro SD card (if you have one installed).
4 - Power on your tablet, go back into "Settings," and go into the About Tablet section on the bottom left.
5 - Tap "System Update." If the update was downloaded previously, it's likely you'll go straight to the Ready to Install pop-up. If this is the case, run the update, and let it fail.
6 - Once the update fails, go back into the About Tablet section as above and tap "System Update" again. This time, you should get the Download Update pop-up.
7 - Let everything download, and then run the installer when it pops up.
8 - Cross your fingers and toes, and pray to whatever deity you worship that the install is successful. It worked for me at this stage.
Might be something with the wifi or screen blackout settings that causes the download to corrupt. Might be something with the MicroSD card. Whatever it is, give this process a try, and try 2 or 3 times if the first one doesn't go through (as the system may still be trying to use the old corrupted download).
Best of luck to those who still have this issue!
Edited to add: BTW, once everything is working again, don't forget to back into "Settings" and set Screen Turn Off and Wi-Fi Turn Off back to where they were before to save battery life. Forgot to mention that. Oops!

Tried downloading the 3.2 upgrade again, and made it a point to have the Acer full charged, connected to the charger, and in close proximity to the wireless router. The download was successful, and the file unzipped ok and the installation proceeded smoothly as expected.
Many thanks to all those who made suggestions.

Nice! Enjoy
So it hit me the other day when i was copying files onto my phone with qtadb(stuck with mtp in cm9) that even if a pin on password is set on the phone i can copy/erase anything from the phone, worse if its rooted, if its connected to a computer. Doesn't this kind of defeat the purpose of the pin/password?
If it even possible to disable just the data +/- pins if the phone is locked with a pin/password, and re-enable them once its unlocked?

That's possibly do-able.
If you edited the sources you could probably disable adb on lockscreen... But if you close all the holes, and something goes wrong, you are stuffed
Remember recovery is always the best way "in" to the device It has root access anyway, and it's unprotected.
i am not an expert or anything.. but to my understanding.. if u dont enable usb debugging and u have lock screen.. u CANT directly modify the data in phone without opening the lock screen first.. i just tested it now.. even if i try to go to usb mass storage mode, im required to open the lock screen and press connect mass storage...
unless u go into download mode and adb but that also require usb debugging to be enable

Ya i guess if someone knowledgeable enough wants to get into your phone they'll just use recovery. Is protecting recovery possible?

Quite right, disabling usb debugging won't allow you to adb into the phone. Tasker allows you to run commands if the display is off and unlocked, anyone know the command to enable/disable usb debugging?
i dont know about the tasker's command.. but if u have lock screen and disabled usb debugging.. it should be quite safe so its not useless
There is a reason you get this shiney warning dialog when enabling USB-Debugging.
Ever bothered to actually read it?

Encrypt the phone?
Think encrypted phone cannot be accessed through recovery
KeePassDroid.....
Best way is to use 3rd party applicayions - KeePassDroid is free and very good, you can set very secure passwords and it has a desktop application too
I use it to store usernames/pwds and by all accounts its pretty secure, it also supports different encryption types on the database
Security
If your phone is stolen better to use some app from market that you can control remotelly and ERASE COMPLETELY the phone...
Meanwhile, encryption could be enough.
And both together maybe is the best.
I noticed flashing roms (checkrom) that i would still have a lock screen but any way i connected the dots it would unlock.

This is correct.
Using encryption with a proper password (not PIN/Pattern) you need to enter the password in recovery as well.
So even with adb root access in recovery, it's impossible to access the data without the password.

That's because the flag in EFS for the pattern lock is still set, but no actual pattern is set in the system's data.
So, imstead of never letting you "in" anymore due to no correct pattern it just always unlocks.
Afternoon,
I'm using Exchange AcitveSync Policies (EAS) to encrypt our new WP8 devices for work. I wanted to know where the Bitlocker encryption is stored once encrypted?
And what is the process of decrypting an encrypted WP8 phone?
thanks
Without the key the phone would not be able to decrypt it's data - so I guess: yes, the key is stored on the device (presumably encrypted itself, using the users password/pin to start decryption).
As for decryption that is an interesting question. Someone will have to try it out. As far as I know there is no switch in the system to do this. One could try to remove the Exchange account from the device although I have no idea on how to even check wether it's decrypting/decrypted.
Settings -> Phone Storage
The phone is fully working and connected on the Internet with the google account and everything, but who set the pattern to unlock the screen also forgot it
Apparently Google remove the option to set a temporary password using the Android Device Manager to unlock the device and the USB debugging is disable on the phone (so I guess no abd).... any ideas on how to recover the photos stored on the internal memory?
First of all, we need to know if it is yours. There are thiefs that steal phones and try to access personal data for their pleasure.
Hisuite for photos.

I'm actually trying to help the owner of the phone, no thief involved here
Since the google account is setup and the device has also internet connection, I was thinking about installing an app remotely from the play store website... but which one? I need one that installs, spawns a service and automatically exposes the content of the internal storage without touching it (wifi, ftp, ...). Any ideas?
I remember that recovery factor reset didn't remove the internal storage (in my case)

Then the last method is this :
If you still have the warranty, make sure it has the same IMEI as the one written on the warranty (you can check what imei you have by removing the sim tray and look at the IMEI written on it), then go to HUAWEI and tell them that you forgotten your password and you need your files. They will ask you for the warranty and some security questions.(maybe, idk)
If you don't have warranty, then sorry, you are screwed.

Does the device have a stock or custom recovery installed? In the case of a custom one, you don't need to enable USB debugging in the actual system; you can just boot into the recovery and go to town with ADB.
In the case of a stock ROM, try installing fastboot and ADB drivers, and booting into fastboot mode. I can't remember the exact key combination, but once you're booted into fastboot and connected to your PC via USB you should be able to flash TWRP or CWM without enabling debugging, I think. Guides to do this can be googled. Make sure to use the right .img for your phone though, or you'll brick it.
Once that's done and you're able to boot into a custom recovery, do so, connect to your PC via USB, fire up ADB, and use one of the following commands:
su
adb shell
cd /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases
sqlite3 settings.db
update system set value=0 where name='lock_pattern_autolock';
update system set value=0 where name='lockscreen.lockedoutpermanently';
.quit
or
su
adb shell rm /data/system/gesture.key
The first of these will nullify the order in which the pattern or PIN is supposed to be inserted, meaning you can do whatever and unlock the phone. The second removes the PIN or pattern entirely.
Let me know how this went, and if you need any help, feel free to reply here or PM me. I'll get back at you as soon as I can.
