Just wanted to say thanks to all the helpful people here. I came from a rooted Samsung S3 and the Z2 is quite different. Now I'm rooted using the community rootkit. It's great. I have xposed framework with xposed Xperia. Best of all I froze all my bloatware with TB. I'm happy. Maybe down the road I'll experiment with some custom roms like before but I'm good now. BL is locked so I'll wait lol. Thanks again all.

Hi everyone! I just upgraded to the AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy S4. Before I had the original Galaxy Note. I've rooted and loaded custom ROM's on all my previous Android devices (Captivate, Inspire 4G, Galaxy S II, and Galaxy Note), but I'm debating on rooting this device. It's running great on the stock ROM.
Has anyone else debated this? If so, did you go ahead and root and loaded a ROM then regret it or were you glad you did it?
You can run it absolutely stock and still be rooted. Rooting gives you the advantage of certain apps that require it, as I'm sure you know, such as Titanium Backup, Root explorer and others. Plus ability to get rid of AT&T apps you never do or never will use. fwiw
Root it! You want regret it. The possibilities are endless. And if you do prefer a stock like rom, well believe me there are GREAT custom stock like roms that these great devs have put together that run flawlessly with added benefits. Hope this helps. Happy Rooting

even if you plan to keep the stock ROM, its worth it to root so you can uninstall the AT&T bloatware and remove the AT&T splash screen on start-up.

I am on stock with root. I rooted it using Adam's casual only to have TiBu work. I froze all ATT bloats and some google and samsung apps. The stock is very fine for me.
Now I am debating to flash Paranoid rom to try their multiwindow and halo features...
Thanks for all the input everyone, I appreciate it. Knowing me I'll end up rooting it and loading a ROM since I can't leave stuff alone. HA!
Does anyone know if there's a ROM out there that someone has gotten Bluetooth Tethering to work? That's one thing I miss from ICS on my Galaxy Note.
Hey gk
In same boat, been flashing roms hundreds of times for over 3 years from early Nexus One days. Most of the reasons were to get newer OS's without waiting. However, one of the reasons I got the S4 was it already has the latest as in 4.2.2.
One thing I have learned as most of us have is there always seems to be something not 100% on each rom for some folks. Goes with the territory as we know. Although, I have been lucky in that area. Maybe due to lots of reading and proper pre-install wipes. Hats off to all the devs though for their long and tiresome hours giving us these great roms.
My concern, since this is early on with the S4 and no unlocked bootloader, are our chances higher to have issues.
My phone with all it's "gimmicks" is running fast and perfect--NO issues. I also would like TiBu and eventually a custom recovery for nandroids even if I don't flash a custom rom. Used both CWM and TWRP in the past. Also, Amon_Ra. All worked great for me.
But, like you and others will probably root and flash a custom recovery anyway.
Damn Samsung for making this so tough of a decision--
I was in same position lol I've been flashing andneven Ade a few Roms but ya know its cool and all but its a hassel sometimes enough for me to be stock! There's no reason IMO to flash anything this phone is packed to the gills with features already and its on a very new os so I feel like I wanna root and flash away but have found no reason to YET key word there and of course its purely my own standpoint

Root it! You can get new features before they come to your carrier. ... I debated it and told myself I would stay rooted but run stock rom.... now they figured out ways to bypass the bootloader and flash roms and im back to crack flashing lol. ..
Yup. I thought I wouldn't root this thing. That lasted a week. Then I told myself it's fine the way it is, I don't need to flash a rom. That lasted 3 weeks. I'm not a flashaholic though. I usually pick one and stick with it for a while.
You think it runs fine until you've rommed it and added a kernel. Then you realize you had no idea how fine it could be.

I wouldn't ever even own a phone that I couldn't root. It just gives you freedom over your phone. Again you don't NEED to run a custom rom to be rooted, but check out some of the TW custom Tom's that just take the phone to another level but still being stock

Custom toms are bad ass lol I had to say it

The Mint Jelly Rom battery life is insane ..it's worth rooting for that alone. Definitely root

I'm more than likely going to root and load a ROM soon. I'm between two different ROMs.

I was a flashaholic on the captivate, and S II. I loved trying new ROMs like Miui and AOKP. But, since I got the Note II and now the S 4 I don't have that desire. My only reason for rooting usually was TiBu, and only from flashing so often. Without flashing a new ROM each week I had little need for restoring apps. After three weeks I finally rooted and started trying ROMs on this phone. It was about the same for my Note. I really like TouchWiz, and miss some of those features on AOSP based ROMs. I don't see the performance need for custom ROMs on either of these phones like I did on the older phones. I guess it just came out of boredom, in the end.

Well, I finally gave in and rooted--knew I would
Used Adam's Casual--very easy--much more so than my HTC phones
TiBu and Nandriods already in use
Next step roms--
Still haven't rooted yet. I probably will over the weekend. Why can't I leave stuff alone? HA!
Hey guys,
noticed that pretty much every mod/ theme on here requires a rooted S4 and since there are no specific roms, I don't want to root my new i9506 yet.
In saying that, I do want to put some mods/ customise my S4.
Could people just link threads that have cool effects on lock/homescreen or awesome mods/launchers/skins/themes that don't require root / roms to work?
I would even appreciate any Google Play apps (only if tested and working well on an S4).
-I haven't mentioned specifically what kind of mods. Please post links to everything and anything that looks cool.
Thank you.

You should agree with me, that the best thing you can do with your non-rooted phone is root it

Mate, I do agree with you. I would love as much as anything to root it, however I'm a bit concerned with this knox issue and the warranty being voided permanently. Gone are the days when you could just S-Off and reflash stock.
I hope I'm in the right place for this and it hasen't already been covered. I rooted my Verizon Galaxy Note 3 the other day and after root installed TB and SuperSu. I'm think as I was installing SuperSu, may have been TB, it asked if I wanted to disable Knox Security. Just wondering if any VGN3 users who have root have seen this? I haven't tripped Knox yet and wondering if it could still happen. I've installed Safestrap and everything seems fine so far. Still hunting the best Rom to install along side the stock 4.3. All suggestions as far as new Rom are welcome along with any input on this post. THANKS!

The disable Knox message is totally normal. By not disabling Knox you will most likely get Knox warnings when running root programs. Just let SU disable it, all will be fine. As for 4.3 ROMs Eclipse is AOSP styled and great on the battery, Baja ROM and Hyperdrive are the most customizable. it really depends what you want out of your ROM.
Many Thanks!

Thanks for getting back on this. I did let SU disable it and I'm feeling better after hearing from someone else. This is the first phone I've had to deal with Knox. I started with the first Droid Inc then moved to the Galaxy Nexus and now I'm playing with the Note 3. Gotta say I really love this phone. Hate the carrier but it's paid for so I'm kinda there. As far as roms go Hyperdrive is one I've been looking at and I'm sure to be checking out your other suggestions.

Misterxtc I kinda figure you haunt, in a good way, this site so I just wanted to get back and tell you
I went with the Hyperdrive Rom and couldn't be happier. I did check out you're other suggestions and
decided on Hyperdrive. Love to customize. Thanks Again for your help.
Hi guys,
For those who have XT905 Razr Ms (the Aussie version) I'd just like to ask some questions
1. If you chose to, how did you root and unlock your bootloader?
2. And what ROMs do you use now? Links if possible please
Thanks
DrShellgon :fingers-crossed:
Hey man, I've got a XT905 so hopefully I can help out.
1. I rooted pretty much as soon as I got my phone. It was on 4.1.2, stuck with all the Telstra and whatever else bloatware so that's what made me go for root. I used (back then) motochopper to get root, and then motopocalypse to unlock the bootloader. Both worked without a hitch and it's been smooth sailing since!
However. I've been re-reading through the threads lately, and, if I understand correctly, it looks like the exploit motopocalypse used to unlock the bootloader has been patched, so that doesn't work any more. I've been reading that geohot's new root for the Galaxy S5 works for the RAZR M though! So maybe have a read and give that a go.
2. I decided to keep it at stock, because all the ROMs on offer all had some problem with them, such as audio, wifi, camera not working, etc. What I did instead was install the Xposed module + Gravitybox, and it pretty much lets me control a lot of functions of the phone. I also used TitaniumBackup to freeze/uninstall all the crapware, and finally a launcher to get custom homescreens.
Hope that helps a little, good luck with rooting your phone!

Haha thanks it's just I'm thinking of getting a new phone cos my current one is unreliable so I'd see if rooting and stuff was possible on a device before getting it Btw what ROMs did you try?
No worries, definitely always do your research before you plan to root My RAZR M has been a beautiful beast. It's lasted way longer than I thought honestly! Rooting it and tweaking it has given it plenty of new life.
Unfortunately I can't help you on the custom ROMs, I never ended up trying any of them. I've rooted and loaded custom ROMs on many phones before this, so I've been round the block a few times, and basically didn't really want to deal with all the odd glitches you can get. As it is, I'm really happy with my current setup (but there's always room for improvement!). I'm sure that others can give you better input on them than I can on that front.
Hello world.
I'm on stock rooted OF1 Lolly and hoping maybe deodexing may allow for theming and xposed.
Some site stated the app 3C toolbox V1.2.1 can deodex but option didn't appear in the app on my phone like it did on the instructions.
I'm scared to "remove ALL ODEX Files" with Lucky Patcher. Boy do I seriously miss xposed.
Another solution (I hope)would be to create a .tar file from this deodexed rom .zip file to use with odin.

I have tried with software "peazip" but much like my life, IT has failed.
I'm looking for the exact same thing.. no luck at all. I finally got my Verizon note 3 OF1 rooted and much to my dissapointment I can't use exposed. I'm still looking. This phone is still fast and awesome and exposed would let me tweak it exactly how I wanted.

So.. What's the big deal.. Jasmine v6.1 is based on OF1 and exposed runs fine on it.. It even comes as part of it.
Also supports theme'ing
