Xposed/X Tether - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Xposed/X Tether
Having an issue. Installed Xposed and X Tether just fine. Had tried to switch from Hard Tether to WiFi and forgot to turn off the hard tether first, connection crashed on PC, and the wifi worked/works fine.
Now, when I try and tether from Native Tether location, it won't work.. I have to use FoxFi to get it to work.. Any ideas?

Tried reboot?

Xtether fix
HERES A FIX FOR THOSE ON MARSHMELLOW IF YOU CANT FIND THE SETTINGS.DB
you have to change some settings using SQLite. so it seems that it has been moved and renamed in Marshmellow.
if you open SQLite Editor and go to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases and then its the telephony.db . Tap on "telephony.db" and then tap on "carriers" and this is where you can add the ",dun" to both lines, "APN2 LTE internet" and "APN2 EHRPD internet" to enable tethering. Happy tethering

The wifi tether app from the market should work though right? Everyone that's rooted so far seems to indicate that is the case

Foxfi won't work after taking update??!!!

Has anyone who is NOT rooted taken the latest update, and gotten Foxfi working again?? If so please tell me how?? I NEED my hotspot back!!! And I can't even root my Note 3 if I wanted to cause I have no Windows computer.

Scratch this! Foxfi is still working!!!! I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and now its working. Only thing is you have to keep it to allow all devices. If u switch to try n use allowed devices only, it will stop working.

Hmmm, never stopped working for me.
Doesn't Foxfi show Verizons warning that you are about to use a mobile hotspot anyway? I tried a while back and that's what it did so I'm not sure I understand the point of Foxfi

It did take a little fiddling for me to get it to work. I installed and uninstalled a few times. I had to let Foxfi set up the VPN as well. Which you will get a pop up for when u first open the app.

You're right it does give that warning but it used to be when the warning popped up instead of hitting cancel you would just push your home button and wa la it worked! But now you get a pop up from foxfi asking to let them install a VPN and if u do this it will work again. And if by some chance u get the Verizon pop up again just hit home, not cancel.

Foxfi is an amazing app! It has totally saved me. I had a rooted note 2 that I used my hotspot on to give WiFi to my Nexus 7 that's installed in my car dash so that way I could use maps, music, etc. When getting the note 3 with Verizon, knowing it would be locked down, my biggest concern was losing my hotspot cause I need it for the car. And yes one can just root their N3 to get around this but if you're me, well then you have no windows PC computer therefore cannot root! Not this phone anyway. So Foxfi allowed me to keep my hotspot even without having root and for me anyway, that's the point of Foxfi! And that's why its so useful.

Nope. Not for me. I let it set up the VPN. Tried with and without the nolockscreen hash code. Not toggling the hotspot on. When i try manually, it just turns back off. Are you all verifying that you can still tether? Are there any settings in the Mobile Hotspot configuation you changed?
UPDATE: Got it working. I had installed the VPN certificate "for wifi" instead of "VPN and apps". I removed the certificate and started up FoxFi, this time leaving it with the default "VPN and apps" on the certificate installation. All is well now. Thanks!
I downloaded it again but see no option to download a certificate, am I missing something?

Try going to Google play on a PC. Look up the app and manually do it. Or you can go to foxfis website I think they have the apk for download on there

Curious you running the latest firmware? If your not, obviously do not accept it.
Also are you on "shared everything" plan? This makes a difference as that "shared everything" plans apparently have the hotspot free, but if your on a normal/unlimited plan, then its not free..
I ask because I'm on the latest firmware, with FoxFi/PdaNet and it does not work for me.

Yes, I took the latest update, which got me into this mess. I was running it without issue before this. I am still on grandfathered unlimited, which is why FoxFi is necessary for me. Just happy I got it back to working, albeit now with a necessary pattern lock, but a happy sacrifice to keep tethering.

I had to first clear the old one: Settings - General - Security - Trusted Credentials - User - FoxFi - (scroll down) Remove
Then when I opened FoxFi again it asked to install the certificate.

Hello,
I seem to not be able to get FoxFi to work, I know this is redundant but can you confirm the following steps:
uninstall foxfi
uninstall foxfi key
remove certificate from the settings->security panel
reboot phone
install foxfi
install certificate with default vpn parameters
turn on foxfi wifi
when verizon dialog box pops up hit the home button
I've tried that 3-4 times and it doesn't seem to work. Previous to the OTA update there would be a red icon showing in the top left of the screen when the hotspot was enabled, that no longer shows up, just the foxfi icon saying wifi is available. I am unable to logon to the hotspot wifi though.
Thanks

Wifi connectivity issues

Hey guys. I'm a newb here, I'm having issues with my wifi connecting and disconnecting very frequently. I've been browsing around for an answer and haven't found anything that works for me yet. Can anyone give me a tip to how to fix this? I've tried a factory reset twice, and also a stock firmware re flash with ODIN. None of this did squat.

Ypu can try this go to wifi settings click advance and make sure wifi auto network switch is unchecked. The other is to open root explorer and scroll down to were it says efs click that, then click carrier then open the hidden menu with text editor A White screen will appear with the word OFF in the upper left corner of the screen delete OFF and type "ON" in all caps. Make sure to save the changes .Hope this helps you. Im having the same problem as you my friend.

question regarding tethering and agent switcher

I applied the kitkat tether fix last night and everything was running great, I was browsing from my laptop, and because everything was working great so I was NOT using the user-switcher extention.
After downloading a 2mb file today, out of nowhere I got the t-mobile upsell page. I turned on agent switcher and it works now.
I was excited about not having to use agent switcher, but I guess I have to now? I was initially excited because I thought agent switcher was no longer necessary.
On the bright side, my pages will be loaded using less data so thats good.
So is this normal? For it to be working in desktop mode and just stop, forcing me to use the agent switcher. I was not sure if this was still necessary with all the fixes and such.
Thank you
Bump, just trying to figure out if I have to use agent switcher still or if there's a way around it

Install APN back up and restore and offline Sim. Then using a root explorer move those 2 apps to system/priv-app fix set permissions for both to 777 then reboot
Now delete your apns using APN backup. Disable the ICS check. Then using offline Sim have it right the new APN for your Sim. For the right when asked. The stock APN ,from what I've read, contains hidden files to aid in tether check. I have no problems with tether nor do I use an user agent switcher. Tether on LTE.

WiFi Tethering on Android L!

I have found a way to get WiFi tethering to work on Android L.
The app is called "WiFi Tether Router" on the Play store.
Note: The app is $2.50
The app didn't work before but it was updated today so I tried it again and it worked perfectly. (Watched Netflix on my tablet and YouTube on my laptop.)
Has anyone else tried it and also worked for them?
Also, if anyone knows of a free alternative that works on android L I'd appreciate it if you told me.

Not to be rude, I appreciate the heads up but this belongs in apps. Especially since its premium.
It doesn't work for me, did you have to alter any of the settings?

Make sure your APN is set to ipv4 instead of IPv6. Also in advanced WiFi settings , unchecked "scanning always available".
I'm on Rogers using L ... I cannot get this app to work. I've set it to ipv4 and unchecked "Scanning always available" but I still can't get it to work.
Anyone have this working on AT&T or Rogers and if so did you change any settings in the app? (there are quite a few in the app)

buraktamturk has discovered a solution to tethering on L:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54067884&postcount=3041
Lightbulb Tethering Fix
Here is solution for tethering (both usb and wireless).
Tether just as usual. Then disable tethering and re-enable it. (this step is important otherwise dhcp server is not started)
After doing that both your phone and computer will not connect internet, because of invalid routing table. (internal bug from l preview)
just connect to the phone shell with 'adb shell', or terminal software on android (connectbot or android terminal emulator will fine)
Code:
[email protected]:/ $ su
[email protected]:/ # ip route | grep rmnet0 | grep link
10.64.70.120/29 dev rmnet0 proto kernel scope link src 10.64.70.124
Note the gateway here (10.64.70.124), and set this default gateway. (and yes, my provider gives me nat'ed private ip addresses)
Code:
[email protected]:/ # route add default gw 10.64.70.124 dev rmnet0
Enjoy the tethering!
Note your phone must be rooted otherwise you will not able to pass beyond 'su' command.

I packaged up the following in a sh script that gets run with Tasker when enabling tethering (I use it for my Nexus 7 in my car):
Code:
#!/bin/sh
ip=$(ip route | grep mnet0 | grep link | sed 's/.*src //')
route add default gw ${ip} dev rmnet0
I saved the above in /sdcard/gateway.sh
I then run a command in Tasker:
Code:
/system/bin/sh /sdcard/gateway.sh
I "think" this is working. Since I ran it manually, the IP is now stored in the routing table. If the IP switches and tethering suddenly stops working, ill know it's not functioning anymore and will tweak the script.

Well thats fortunate? I cant get it to work on mine. It connects but does not transfer anything.
Weirdly the stock android L tether works for me but it uses my 5gb data..
I got tethering working just fine on L using the same tethering.dun.required mod as on kitkat
No need for any app
