Note pro 12.2 temperatures - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 General

I Would like to know and compare the temperatures the rest of u guys are getting
I consider my tablet to run very hot even when idle I would like to know if every one has the same issue
Using bayern monitor or gsam I have got moments in Web browsing where I have hit 40 Celsius when in total standby I get 27 Celsius my note phone barely gets at 22 when idle and never reach 32 or 33 when under heavy use same my previous tablet so how is with yours ?

Sounds like you have processes running in the background. Idle temperatures are going to vary by ambient temperature as well as idle cpu load. Looking back at my battery stats I see 85F at idle which is a couple degrees above ambient.
Sent from my SM-P900 using Tapatalk

I think it is normal, I remember when I had the Note 1 (N7000) I reached about 59° under extreme usage it was untouchable

Mine averages at 25ºC, with peaks of up to 45-50ºC with serious gaming.
That's perfectly normal. You have to remember we're dealing with a device that has the same hardware that would require a seriously heavy duty fan on a PC. Its only heatsink is the plastic case.
Also, my Note 3 with browsing usually levels at 38ºC, so...

No, it´s not comparable to PC hardware because the TDP of a mobile cpu and the performance is lower.
I´m using a leather case to secure the tablet itself and to freeze my finger

You are looking at battery temperature rather than CPU. CPU will fluctuate from high 30's near 80 Celsius under high load. Many of the CPU apps don't monitor CPU temps correctly.

Lucky guys. Mine ran into 60-70°C when in idle. Reaches about 80-90+ when rebooting. Guess I have to replace it since I get lots of random reboots

That idle temp is anything but idle. Did it also suffer from batterydrain? Because it sounds like something keeps running, possibly Mediaserver.

It does and no, mediaserver wasn't the problem. Will provide a screenshot when back at home.
Got that issue on stock (unrooted/rooted) and custom rom.

Wow. CPU monitoring software doesn't show anything taking up a lot of CPU time?

The highest I have ever reached on a tablet was about 53°C. But that was while playing an intensive game and charging it at the same time. The 12.2 is very large and should dissipate the heat very well. 60-70 degrees sounds like a hardware fault to me. Could be mediaserver running at 100% because of faulty sd. I would try ticking format in odin to see if its the hardware. If its ok after that it might be a bad app.

No, nothing specific to blame for that behaviour.

As you can see temperatures are way too high even if I just stay on home screen without any app running in background doing heavy work.

Scenario after having the device completely wiped (also internal sd and no external sd mounted) was still the same on last 6 pictures.
No additional apps were installed, except for earth, to show how far the temperature raises when doing some heavy work.
As you can see it still keeps its temperature above 50 degrees even after let it cool down a while.
Only way to get the temperature below 50 degrees was to disable the screen/poweroff the whole device.

Return it back to the store, it has to be a hardware defect. I would not use the 12.2 anymore, 70C is far too high for the lithium battery...

Yeah, will do that today. It wouldn't bother me if it was like under heavy load for a specific amount of time, but got that even while not using it.
Just hope that it wont take that long to get a replacement :/

That's showing A15 CPU core temp, not battery temp.

Got a new one as replacement, issue seem to be gone so far.
Got 83°C under heavy usage but without causing any reboot.
Temperatures are about 35-45°C when idle, depending on what's the temperature of my room.
Seems pretty normal to me now

screen blinks while using and no service
Hey guys its my first question here
while playing games or using multitasks I feel like there something hot under the rear cam then the screen starts blinking and I got no service as if I have been changed to flight mode for about a second or two and it keeps repeating till I close some apps
all of that happens with the power saver on
If I switched off the power saver or even raise the brightness to maximum I won't even be able to watch a movie without screen blinking
I was asking should I get a new one or can it be repaired well and if I should ask for a battery change as well ??
I mean if the battery life time can be affected by that or not ??

That spot i am pretty sure is the battery. When I'm on a game fire a long time that is the area that gets hot and eventually i get a message that it can't charge due to the battery temperature. .i do not however get anything with my screen boning

Hi guys,
After buying s2 i was worried about battery life. Because first two days it was like 12-14 hours of medium use.
But now its marathon :d
See some shots..

I thought i was getting good battery life with medium to heavy usage (27 hours) on Cognition 1.15 but that is exceptional, can you tell me your set up as to how you achieved this amount of battery life.
cheers
Tegrak's kernel and underclocked.
Frozen samsung apps. and brightness mostly 0% as i am fairly fine with the lowest brightness it doesn't hurt my eyes.
also one more thing, i am using overclocking upto 1300 as well and you will be surprised most people will tell you to go underclock to save battery but i didn't and i am just happy with 1.3 Ghz blazing speed.
Here's a shot of running.

Also i used camera for recording movie for about 50 minutes in 720P and 50+ photographs as well which is not mentioned in the above post. I will post once again when my battery will reach 1% because when its below 10% it drops really slow and allows me to use it more unlike when its full.
Sit it on a desk and stare at it. The average screen on time is 5 hrs. You can use that in a day or spread it across 3 days.

One more thing, i only recharge battery when its below 5% or mostly under 2% to full turning it off. And ofcourse this only first week of using the phone, hope it will increase a bit more by next week.
[Note: I personally believe plugging in and out of charger makes the phone battery drop faster]

What ROM are you using?
I usually have brightness set to auto, same as you all Samsung apps frozen, am not using Tegrak i don't believe it's compatible with Cognition ROM, are you using Juice Defender Ultimate or other apps, etc, etc, im on setcpu im 200 min - 800 max - on demand and screen off profile - 200 min - 500 max - consertivave - priority 100.
Seriously impressive all the same..

That is the best battery life ive ever seen on XDA for any type of smartphone never mind one like the GS2, did you use the Internet/Wi-Fi/GPS/Bluetooth,etc, much,do you have any widgets on your screen, push e-mail,etc, im amazed your getting that amount of time without using Juice defender or some other similar app.

Bluetooth yes for 10 minutes transfering some files.
Gps yes for around 1 hour (you can see that in pics atleast it shows usage for ndrive there)
wifi yes around 1 hour but its always on mostly (mostly used for market to download and test applications, gmailing and also some browsing)
3g or edge no i didn't use it.
Games yes i played like drag race etc.
widget yes, battery widget and the running app widget and live wallpapers.
Mine, I think there's a little (big) problem :
Considering the first 8 hours were during the night so I didn't touch my phone :
Running on VR2.1, many things push or so (like 15/30mins refresh) [mails, fb, twitter, news, weather, etc], and good modem (KG2) and CF-Root 4.1.
Any idea/advice please ?
A better rom maybe ?
Thanks in avance

The real secret to great battery life is to disable all the data connections and not use the phone. Since most people are pretty active with their phones, threads about stand-by time are pretty meaningless. Actually, with over a dozen battery life threads already running, you could say new battery life thread are pretty meaningless too.

I'm on stock K2-CL. I used 3G just a bit today while in a restaurant, wifi is always on, but I normally sit in front of the computer most of the day, or use my tablet at home, so I do very light surfing - mostly while on the can.
I've not installed "app freezers", nor underclocked the processor, nor rooted or removed anything that isn't stock android. Not stopping tasks in the task manager. In the screenshot below, I did play around a bit on Google Earth for 15 min or so, I'm surprised not to see the android market in there because I feel that's what I used most. I use a live wallpaper that's fairly bright (moving clouds).
Brightness on auto - automatic gmail notifications, contact syncs etc.
I'm going to go on a big trip next week, where electricity will sometimes be optional. I do have that Samsung battery case thinggie coming the mail next week - and already have an external battery as well for emergencies, because this phone will die in an hour or two using the gps, or playing games, or doing serious web surfing - or a combination of those things. It runs very hot too if you use it constantly several hours (drove 500 kilometers last week, the phone was very very hot - seemed unhealthy).
If you hold the power button along with the home button it takes a screen shot.
Thought id say to make it easier for ya in future!
thanks a millions
Don't mind the n00b Here.
Found the IMEI number in the status tab of about phone.
Goto remember to keep this out of public photos.

Strange Battery Issue

I've had my phone for about a week now(att unrooted) and experienced something very strange this morning. I fully charged the phone at around 5:30 last night and used he phone very moderately. At around 11:30 pm uploaded 3 photos on my google drive and the battery was 80-90%. Woke up this morning and the battery was dead. This is totally out of the ordinary because I never experienced this before even with my old and buggy captivate. Keep in mind that I was on wifi and the phone is not yet rooted. Has anyone else noticed anything like this?
That is strange. Honestly, I dunno what could cause it besides some random app that you installed.
i say download a battery calibrator and then go from there

Battery Calibrator won't do anything.
Install Better Battery Stats, and when your phone turns on after plugging it in, see what was using the most power. It won't work for the first time but will work in the future.
Even better uninstall ****ty apps and disable notifications on this like word with friends, scramble with friends, etc. Go into app manager and disable everything you don't use. Report back in a week.

I've had the phone for 5 days and gone through maybe 8 batt cycles. I'm not getting more than 2hrs screen time on any cycle. This is stupidly horrible battery life. There has got to be something severely wrong. I don't do much with the phone. I can't even with less than 2hrs to work with. Overnight batt loss is maybe 8%.
Any help is ENORMOUSLY appreciated.

Update
I was able to reproduce something similar. I opened up market\play to do a few updates and once the update process started, I put the phone down on my desk. Updates installed and the screen remained turned on. Now, I don't remember the exact steps or what other apps were running in the background. All I know is that the screen remained on for a few minutes until I manually turned it off.
This could very well be a bug in Samsung's face\image recognition software that handles smart stay. It might be a bug in google play, a faulty app or a combination of things... Because the battery on this phone is actually quite amazing. I unplugged my phone this morning, went to work, updated a bunch of apps, saved local maps to google maps, hung out on facebook, surfed the web... and after 10.5 hours, I still have more than 50% battery left.
That's a good indication that what I'm experiencing is a software glitch of some kind that if left un-attended, could completely drain your battery.
Try turning battery saver on and check pretty much everything in there. Disable smart stay. Manually turn off your screen when you're not using it. Turn off GPS, Bluetooth, and WiFi when you're not using it. Some downloads hang in the Play store if you "update all"... cancel these and download them one at a time. Do not just assume it all went to plan.
These tips on combination with my first post should help. You should get 4 hours of screen time with some phone calls in a single charge. I find certain apps like Scramble with friends chug charge faster than things like reading xda. Chrome for instance on the PC is less battery friendly and more resources intensive than IE. Perhaps the same is true for the mobile version.
There are way too many variables for us to pick out what your underlying issue may be. Start eliminating things and we'll keep throwing out new ideas. Good luck!

I just posted a pretty good size list of apps that can be disabled. That helps save battery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1740228
I have managed to narrow it down.
- I had 2 updates in market. I pressed update all.
- screen turned off when the first update was almost done.
- I pressed the power key and entered my pass to turn the screen on and left the phone on my desk.
- I kept seeing the smart stay icon, but the screen remained on.
- I moved phone without touching the screen...no change.
- held my hand over the camera at a distance of a few inches and the screen finally dimmed out.
This happened while google play had focus. This is a bug in smart stay or google play.
Somethings definitely up, this battery life is as bad if not worse than my epic 4g.
Did notice one thing... I cleared memory and it said 51 applications closed.... I don't even think i have that many applications on the phone!
Memory eats up a lot of power.

You're the second person I found that has the same problem as me! I can't even get 2hrs screen time through my day to day. The same day to day that my atrix was giving me 3.5hrs on.
I feel better knowing that I'm not doing something wrong, but could the phone just have that horrible of battery life and all these reports are a fanboi lie with review articles just copying each other?
I'm so glad im not the only one experiencing all of this! Lol, i upgraded from my mytouch 4G, i DID notice smart stay would come on at random times, sometimes when i wasnt even looking at my phone lol, disabled it & disabled a whole bunch of other crap & like many others & i dont get 4 hours screen time, more like 2 which sucks, id also like to have my data on all the time (but im forced to turn it off to save battery ), im rooted & ive uninstalled w.e crap i didnt need/want or felt it was just running for no reason. I'm doing the exact same battery steps i did with my mytouch & its sad =/ i was hoping i wouldnt have to do half of the ones im doing now, i LOVE my S3 but samsung needs to figure out wth is goin on & same with the guy who talked about if the articles r lying) i saw one on tech radar yesterday on battery life on the S3, they r either lying or they got a good phone in a good batch, smh, also experience my screen flickers from time to time while texting (i always close background processes) i notice blotches on the screen while texting at night or in the dark also, again i love my phone but u know, id love to have my data on constantly to check things quick without my battery going down drastically when i barely even touch it =/
I too have strange battery life. I usually leave my phone charging over night. When I unplug the battery in the morning, I lose about 10% every hour. However, when I get to around 80%, I recharge it again and it loses battery at a MUCH slower rate. Around 2% every hour on stand by. I'm not sure why this happens, but it does.
Also, there are some instances when I pick up the phone and it's pretty warm. Even though it's been sitting idle for about 20 min. Then there are times when I pick it up and it's normal room temperature. This leads me to believe that there are some processes going on while my phone is idle. I'm trying to find out what apps are causing this, as I believe it is causing my battery to drain while idle. It's very inconsistent, which is making it hard to track down. I don't even have a lot of apps installed. Most of it is actually the bloatware that came with my phone

I am starting to think it's ATT's LTE connection. I randomly have days where my battery won't make it until 5 pm without really using it very often. Other days, the phone goes all day with 4 hours plus of screen time no problem. On the really bad days, the phone will stay warm despite me closing every app with task manager. I am now experimenting with turning off mobile data (not a permanent solution), and the phone is cool to the touch again. It may be that the phone is burning up the battery in areas where the LTE connection is weak.

S4 Charges fast and Discharges fast

Hello,
My S4 is nearly a week old now, it's the international GT-I9500 octa-core version. Since it dons a big battery of 2,600 mAH (middle point of S3 and Note 2) it was suppose to last long more even with heavy usage.
My usage is moderate, a few calls, but I use connectivity extensively i.e. WiFi indoors and Mobile Data outdoors.
I tried switching off the WiFi to preserve battery and to see any boost but zilch.
Whenever I put the phone on charge, it charges very quickly and when the charging is complete and I remove the phone from the charger, it discharges pretty quickly, goes to 99% in a minute WITHOUT any usage.
What could be the issue? I even formatted my memory card from S4 as I read some bad mp3 files or something can cause the battery drain and such.
Everything is stock, both ROM and Kernel and the phone is not rooted atm
I'm attaching the screenshots for my cycle with minimal WiFi and Data usage.

I can get more than 16hours on my S2 easily with average usage...This is just BS optimization from Samsung...
It's better than the s3 because the battery is larger but I'm telling you that screen is a hog. It's larger and brighter and its 1080p; yes the resolution causes the gpu to eat more battery too.

I freaking hate watching my battery drop.. and mine goes by quite quick. . I have wifi and mobile data on.. When I leave my house I toggle off wifi. I read that having mobile data on all the time doesn't use battery. . Is that true?
Anyway. .I just turn off the battery percent.. Can't stand putting the phone to sleep at 80 and turning it back on 20 min later at 75.

im wondering if there's a way to switch the screen to 720 mode instead of 1080p to save battery life. similar to switching a computer monitor so you stress the gpu less during a game... this would also save a small percentage of battery life...
also a more efficient auto-brightness would be great.

Same here, hate watching the battery drop so soon. For me, what I've observed is that WiFi eats a lot of battery than mobile DATA for this set when it should be the other way around...
I have my internet disconnected at home due to some upgrading of the lines in my area so I haven't been using WiFi at home, only at office, so mobile DATA was switched on all day yesterday at home and when I go outside and surprisingly the battery didn't drain a lot.
I'll post screenshots of this cycle as soon as the battery drains down to 2%

No! Mobile data is one of the biggest battery killers going! I have my toggle within the first 5 so I can turn it on and off when I need it easily

With big screen and higher resolution, it will definitely consume more power. try to turn off screen and kill running apps when not needed.
16hours on battery is quite good considering the WIFI indoor and Data on.
i probably get a little bit more than that but less wifi usage and data is only EDGE in my country.

Hello,
My S4 is nearly a week old now, it's the international GT-I9500 octa-core version.

Nothing alarming
Firstly, your stats are perfectly normal. I got the same results on my stock octa core version.
Try omega its much better battery consumption wise. Other tips: Switch to 2g only if you are using your phone just for chatting, keep backups off and turn unnecessary sync off. Turn off your screen tap sounds.
You might already know all this.
Anyhow, trust me 16hours at 60% is not bad. Hopefully samsung will do something about it with future updates.
CHEERS.
Ow and if you are over with your honeymoon with all the air motion gestures smart eye tracking features, turn them off if you want to save some more.

Battery Life

So I've had the Z3+ for a few weeks now and I have not been particularly impressed with the battery life. I was just curious to know what kind of longevity others are getting. I seem to average 4 hours sot with medium to light use. I am on .24 firmware and had two OTA updates as soon as I turned on the phone after opening the box. What are you guys seeing in terms of battery?
Edit: Should mention this is with intermittent wifi and data turned off. No apparent wakelocks either
. 4+ SOT seems to be around where I'm getting... some music or YouTube on work commute about 2+ hrs.. No games.. Mostly browsing...

Good to know, thanks. My gsam stat screen looks nearly identical to that. Perhaps the 5.1.1 update will bring some improvments
Hey,
I noticed this as well, on .24. However, my phone almost cooked itself, so was a little more worried about that. After doing a 'phone repair' in PC Companion (Bridge for Mac), the temperature dropper a LOT, and as an added bonus, the battery life seems a lot more stable. Recommend doing a clean install of .24, not OTAs.
Returned my z3+ because of the battery life. For a phone that large and heavy the battery sucks. My new z3c has almost double the screen time.
Yeah i get around 4hrs of screen time normal usage, music/games/web browsing/wifi etc.

Holy **** this.
I was using no pwoersaving features and would end the day at 10-20% with moderate use.
Now with stamina mode turned on(whitelisting only commonly used apps), I end the day at 60% with moderate use.
Stamina mode is the greatest thing I have ever come across.
You guys that are getting really bad battery life should definitely look into using stamina mode more aggressively. I've white listed the apps I commonly use (which really aren't that many) while keeping brightness at a reasonable amount and I've gotten great battery life. 5 hours of SoT while on constant WiFi over here. I do use greenify whenever I remember, Nova launcher with app swipe gestures is awesome.

My battery was emptied in about 10hours, moderate use (Stamina mode, not ultra). On top of that, it went into a boot loop when there was about 10% left.. And there was nothing that could stop the loop except for plugging in the charger and wait about 30 minutes for it to stop the loop or wait and let the battery get emptied. So today I did a factory reset and a repair through Sony PC companion - and the top third of the screen stopped reacting to touch completely. Just sent it in for service/repairs.. Hope to get some good news soon. I'm really starting to regret ever buying this phone...

Ok, so it seems that using power saving mode or stamina mode or whatever it's called does make a difference on battery life. On my Galaxy s5, although it has a Snapdragon 801, it is still a quadcore SoC, and turning off two of the cores makes a huge difference on the battery life.
So my point is if you would to turn off the A57 cores completely off I wonder how much battery would increase. Or even if you do not mind a bit of lag, 'cause I don't, maybe even go a step further and turn off one or two of the A53. I found an app on the playstore that allows me to turn off cores on my 801. I would like for someone to give it a shot and see if it makes a difference. It did not work on the Galaxy S6 and that's why I am still looking for a new phone.
Having a non-removable battery is definitely a deal breaker for me. But if the phone has the ability to go at least a good 16 hours without a charge, then that wouldn't be such a bad deal. That means if you unplug at 0500 you could still go all the way to 2100 before you would be forced to plug in. Just throwing my two cents out there for you guys. I wished someone would comeout with a phone as good as the Z3+ with the features of the Samsung S5. 5 to 5.3 in screen, water resistant, removable battery, micro sd card and a screen that's comparable to a Super AMOLED. LG G4's screen is very good but with a locked bootloader it kills the ohone for me.
Alright, sorry for the rant. Let me know if someone wants to try out the app I was talking about. And by the way, im not the developer of the app. Im just an user.

With Stamina mode it breaks 16 easy.
I am currently at 41% battery, and my phone has been on for 24 hours. This is with light-moderate use.
I have yet to drain this phone to 0 yet, so I will see how long it can go.
I have the low battery stuff kicking in at 20%, so it should go even longer.
It didn't seem like extended stamina mode that lowered performance made any difference for me.

I forgot to drain to 0 on first use. Is that still recommended/required with the new devices? Is it too late to do it after a few charges? (one week old here)

Having no internet connection, but i'm on wi-fi. This doesn't come from the network i'm using because it happens even when i'm connected to a different one.
My battery life is really ****ty... Plus when i'm around 30%, my phone shuts down and when i turn it back on again, i'm like at 1%.
I'm not root.
I really don't know what to do. Is there any information i can give you that will give you tips on things i'm maybe doing wrong causing my phone to have weird behavior ?
The thing i want to know is if flashing a new rom was a good idea, and maybe if you have advices to give me on roms.. I'd like to be as up to date as possible, and a light rom. Doesn't care about touchwiz feature. I just want my phone to be reactive, fast, and working normally.
Thanks for your answers.
Change your battery. Some posters claim to have lag when their battery are nearly dying as well.

Do you update regularly (Apps & OTA update)?
Try to turn off WiFi & then turn it on again.
As for battery....it's degraded to only 70% of its full capacity.
Usually when it reaches around 40% your phone will stutter + lagging heavily, so make sure to charge at around 50% if you are still considering to use that "broken" battery.
My Advice is to buy a new OEM battery or any good 3rd party battery.
It is a little similar with my 2014 Note 10.1. It also shuts down on its own at right arount 33%. But only sometimes. And yes, it also stutters. I can not vouch for other branded devices. But, I have heard similar stories from friends on their Samsung devices. Definitely get a new battery. Like another post staited. OEM is a great choice. Or, at least a very reputable 3rd party. I purchased a battery for my Note 10. And even though it was new, it was not the same. I found that the circuitry in the cheap aftermarket battery was sub par. The seller sent me a free replacement battery. And it also had issues. So, make sure you get a reputable battery.

Batteries aren't linear though. Its voltage drops off in a curve. (e.g. 4.2v = 100%, 4.1v = 90% and 3.7v = 20%)

Hm... You right about signal. I never looked at this, because whenever I use the phone (at home) and I'm always on 4G internet (unlimited plan), signal meter is on 1-2 bars.I don't know why is signal so bad, when phone is off. Power saving is always ON. About wake locks... I believe that they are from my smart watch (bluetooth),but Bluetooth version on Note4 should be low-power (connection is lost when I'm 4 meters away (in my department)), so... This days I can't reach 2h of SOT (4h-5h when it was new).

Interesting. I'm curious about the power saving if that actually reduces your signal by keeping it in a lower power state. I have never used power saving mode and my rom doesn't recommend it. I wonder if running in normal mode would effect it.
Might look at what apps are using the bulk of your battery as well to see if something rogue is running.

Before Note my phone was Sony Xperia Z and power saving on that phone did a great job. That's why I still use this feature. I also put many apps into the "optimizing mode"... There's no any special app which uses battery. There was Facebook, but I uninstall it.Battery monitoring apps are useless for me because phone is not rooted (still under warranty). Maybe I should try hard reset.

I know it's old thread, but anyway... Last week I finally take my phone to the service, because it's still under warranty. They changed the screen because it was burned-in, they changed the battery (sudden power-offs) and strangely - they changed some faulty system connector. Phone worked and charge befor the repair. I always use only original charger, so how can be some system connector burned??? They changed it for free under warranty, so I assume that it must be some factory fault. I know few people with the same "sudden power-off" problem on different Samsung phones, so...
