Who has the most problems??

Pardon my boldness but I have been on this forum now for awhile and been reading and getting alot of very good information on ROOTING.
I have yet to ROOT my Hero and I am really in a struggle to do so because it seems to me that those of you, for the most part, who have ROOTED your phones are the same people who are having all the problems with this and that appearently because of the ROOT. I mean that folks with stock Hero's very rarely say that something isn't working as it should. App's withstanding. I refer to stock features only.
Reading the problems is the Who's Who of why I think it not a wise choice for me to ROOT at this time.
Anyway, I had my say and my stock Hero works just fine with its 1800 from Mugen. Remember, its a phone, not a pc even tho it share's some pc features.

The key piece of information to remember is that rooting does't cause the issues we experience. It's the custom ROMs and hacks we install that cause problems
I think most everyone here remembers that we're doing these things at our own risk.
As for the OP, if you don't feel a desire for the features available after rooting or flashing a custom ROM, that's cool. It's not for everyone.
Rooting, flashing, hacking... it's for tinkerers. People who like to find out why something does or doesn't work and then find a fix for it.

I would place a bet on this:
The people who don't have root or don't want to root, and they rarely post their issues in comparision with those who have rooted.
Yes, Most of the issues you see here are self inflicted, but it's what we do. We like a challenge/problem, it gives us something to do. Another reason to stay up till 3 in the morning to find out WHY it's jacked up.
If your issues are so bad, RUU and stick with stock (A whole new set of issues).

We mention our problems so that developers can try and fix them for the next release. In all honesty, Ive had one 1 problem, that was when I installed AOSP 1.6, which btw is/will not supported by our phone officially, I got the dreaded SMS issue that SOME people are experiencing.

Well yea many people post about issues who are rooted, but it is caused by other things they are doing that require it. Simply rooting your device shouldn't cause anything to go wrong.
Roms and other things that require root access tend to be beta, and even if they are not beta they are created by people, and not everything will be perfect.
It is pretty hard to permakill your hero compared to other devices. The only way I know of using the software is through flashing the radio, or messing with ESID and stuff like that.

Yes, at the ripe old age of 62 I do believe ROOTing and all that goes with it are for you younger folks who have grown up with computers and like devices. I do tinker somewhat and in fact, my wife and I host a private FREE World of Warcraft ( WOW )server. Been hosting online game servers for about 9 years now and we love it.
Once again, thanks and as you said, I probably need alot more schooling before I would attempt a ROOT. My only problem is AWAKE time, its really high even tho I have removed those apps I can remove to help that situation. Hopefully, 2.1 will help us Non Roots somewhat but if not, then I will strongly consider ROOTing. As long as I know there are people like yourself to help us old dudes.

There's not an issue with rooting in and of itself. Take me for instance. I've had some problems with my phone:
1. Apps2SD didn't work...but that was part of a ROM that was being beta tested.
2. Kernel locked up...that was due to an invalid setting I put into the kernel I was building.
3. Lost CPU kernel control...this is something I'm doing wrong in the kernel I am building. I simply restore a control file from a previous build and recompile.
These are things that were expected in testing and needed to be fixed or that I inflicted on my own.
I have a friend who has rooted his Hero, but hasn't applied any of the custom ROMs to his phone (although he has installed applications that require root). He's never had an issue with the phone.
It really depends on what you use it for.

Rooting really isn't too difficult. Just look at the intelligence level of some of the people who have managed to root (before anyone flames me, I'm mainly talking about myself)!
I believe it's entirely possible to root your phone, install a custom ROM that is close to stock, and then live a happy life without ever messing with it again.... Sorry, I couldn't keep a straight face!
Kidding aside, did you update your phone with the Sprint Maintenance Release? You mentioned "awake time" which this patch will fix without the need to root.
Honestly, I mess around with my Hero so much that I am often startled when it rings and I'm reminded that it's a phone.

lol I second this my wife hates the fact the I have tis really nice phone and when ever I am at home she can never get ahold of because I am always doing something to it.
to the OP rooting really is not hard I mean if you are hosting a MMORPG server you could surely do it, but if your happy with your phone as is then that is really awesome. I myself when I first got my phone knew ABSOLUTLY NOTHING about android or linux or what in the work a kernel or apk was but with the help of the great community here I have learned so much. Dont get me wrong I am no where near where a lot of the guys on here are but I am learning and helping as much as I can just as those that helped me (i mean I am just happy that I think I could go through and make a theme now lol). if you are happy with the phone as is the only benifit of rooting I would bring up is being able to make backups of everything that way if anything does happen to the phone then you dont have to go trough and redownload apps and set everyhting back up again.
if you do decide to make the leap there are many people here more than willing to help.

Its just me, I really don't need to be ROOT'd but the thought of having full control is the thing. Guess you could say I am a Control Freak. oh please understand I wasnt trying to insult you at all, and yes I understand the control thing. thats why I rooted originally but then I flashed my first rom and got addicted. Now if im not changing my phone in some way on a pretty much daily basis I start to get the DT's lol.

Rooting is actually deceptively easy. All you have to do is download fresh pre-kitchen and hit root. Even from the command prompt (which i used because i don't have access to a windows machine) is still easy. This is literally ALL you have to do: (These are instructions for macs, basically same on windows)
Step 1. Download Android SDK from android.com
Step 2. Download Amon Ra's Sprint Hero Recovery Image
Step 3. Copy the recovery image to root of phone's SD card (name it recovery.img)
Step 4. Open command prompt and navigate to tools folder of the SDK \AndroidSDK\Tools
Step 5. Type the following code with phone plugged in via USB:
Code:
adb shell
#cd /sdcard
#flash_image recovery recovery.img
#reboot recovery
Your phone should then boot into a screen with green text on a black background. Success! You have rooted. (Note: you will need to get the version of Stock ROM with SU for root access.)
Before you reboot the phone go into Backup/Restore>Nandroid Backup Then hit Home to confirm. This will say Performing backup...... and then say Backup complete! You may now hit Reboot System Now and it will start up like normal. Then, mount the SD card, and copy the Nandroid folder to your computer. This is your stock ROM, if anything goes wrong copy this back to the phone and restore it. You may boot into recovery by starting up the phone while holding the home button. Hope this helped.

Not if you're flashing a custom rom that already has it.

You have to have root access to initially install the custom recovery image. So you DO need to push the asroot2 exploit & run it on the phone.

I never had to do that when I rooted. Flashed MCR right after I rooted using above method and it worked fine.

Yes the asroot2 exploit is was allows to root the phone, so therefore you had run the exploit initially.

[HOW TO] Steps to Take to Prepare a Rooted Phone for Warranty Exchange

I recently had to give up my rooted preordered Incredible for a refurb due to heat issues and reboot (loop) issues. For those looking for a guide as to what to do if you have to return your phone to Verizon and want to unroot. I welcome any comments to update/add to this information:
1) Make a NANDROID Backup if you want to simply port it over to your new phone
2) Mount your phone as DISK DRIVE
3) Walk the directories and delete any cached thumbnails of web sites you have visited
4) Copy any pictures you want to keep which were saved on the phone
5) Reboot into ClockWork recovery
6) Wipe the Dalvik Cache
7) Wipe the Data/Factory Reset
8) Go back
9) Wipe Data (main menu)
10) Power Down your phone
11) Remove your SD Card
12) Download one of the RUU's which are hosted around the web:
http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped/Incredible/
13) Turn on your phone and plug it in to your USB
14) Run the RUU and let it do it's thing. When its done, so are you
15) If you have a screen protector, remember to remove it.

Anyone know if this also removes the more hidden data, such as the cached images of the web sites you have visited? In other words, if I run the RUU, is the phone ready to just be handed over?

if i root and uninstall some apps, will this restore my phone to stock and allow me to get all future HTC updates?

I don't think so, but it's easy enough to do a wipe and then apply the RUU (and hey, for the hell of it, you could wipe again).

I'm pretty sure the RUU will completely wipe your phone. However, you can take giantcrazy's advice and wipe before running the RUU.

Ok, here is what you want to do.
there would be two things you need to un do before sending them back this phone.
make sure it says S-ON.
and then make sure you have stock recovery.
If you have these two things, your gold bod.

After going through a lot of threads this one seems appropriate. I am looking for how to go back to stock DI. After Unrevoked3, ota leak and unofficial froyo leak, my DI wont connect to VZW anymore, all out going calls are busy. Talked to my VZW guys, they are cool with me, tried to help nothin'. Today tried Unrevoked forever and official froyo leak, still no VZW connection. I looked into this a lot before I tried these mods I don't know what went wrong, I would not have been able to do this with out such easy tools as are provided today. "I NEED HELP" to get back to stock, "PLEASE". I have looked into SDK and Adb, as I have been lead to believe there is no way to return to 2.1 and the right radio without these tools. At this moment I have not been able to find clear enough explanations on how to use these tools, this is where I maybe over my head. I assume my radio is fried, I don't care if no "S on", I just need those obvious things; version, kernel, baseband, to be stock. Any help will be appreciated, big thanks for any suggestions

Ok, there is so much here I will do my best.
number one, having s-on is just as important as having a radio thats either 2.15x or 1.x, now that the OTA 2.2 update is sending out, you can send the phone back with 2.2 and 2.15x radio.
what you need to make sure of, is two things, you have s-on,
and you have stock recovery.

Thank you, and really they wont know if the ota was pushed to me? I found the S on tool, I didn't know there was one, I had only read on about S off. I don't know how to find/replace stock recovery, I will start searching though. Much appreciation, my better half is not as thrilled about my learning experience as I am.
I already rooted and unrooted once, will I get stock recovery back after unrooting?

Your welcome, I'm happy to see you are learning so quickly. S-on is very helpful for those warranty returns of the phone.
Verizon has no idea whether or not you got the ota, or better yet what version you have or if you are rooted, ect.
If you tell me what your hboot it, radio, software version, s-on or s-off, if rooted or not, and if you have the stock recovery or clockwork and I will try and guide you to where you want to be..
if you need help getting to the stock recovery this must mean you are rooted, and this can be achieved by downgrading the phone by un-rooting, I'd suggest running s-off while you are rooted, then

To find out real fast if you have the stock recovery or clockwork-mod recovery, boot into HBOOT, (power off phone, hold vol down and power til screen turns on) and then vol down to select recovery and push the power button I think to select and then if you get a red triangle that means stock recovery.

Also need to return phone
I just got off with Asurion and they are over nighting a replacement. I had rooted my phone, installed some root only apps like wireless tethering and set cpu, removed some bloat like CityID and Tweet/Peep, and changed the boot animation. No custom ROM or radio update.
Then I wanted to get the OTA update so I applied s-off and flashed back to stock recovery.
So what do I need to do to return this phone. I know I will need to apply s-on. Then should I flash a stock 2.1 or just revert the changes I made to boot animation, restore the bloatware, and remove the root apps? Do I need to remove any other files that go with being root?

I wanted to thank you again for the help this last weekend. I apologize for not returning for more of the help you offered me. My wife only has every other weekend off and we have an 18mo. old son, both of whom deserved my time more than my DI. I love my DI but it wasn't giving me much love.
Although VZW isn't always the nicest to my pocket book, I have never been taken care of as well by any other provider(s) employees, thank you. As I mentioned in my first post, my VZW guys are cool with me. Yesterday I went into the store and the manager offered to help me. He managed to reconnect my DI to the network but no 3g's. He believes my problem is just a coincidence because he had another customer with a similar problem over the weekend, with no mod's. Still I need to exchange my DI, it doesn't look like 3g's is going to turn on.
My real issue is still getting custom recovery off and stock recovery back on, then unrooting will be a breeze. The videos you lead me to are one of the sources I have been working with, however to reverse the leaked ota, Downgrade leaked ota video, requires SDK and adb knowledge, this is where I am noob. At this time my VZW manager who is in school for programing is attempting to help me (he has a over clocked Palm Pre Plus, 1Ghz), this is very cool of him, well beyond what is expected. (I am in no way encouraging anyone to rely on their VZW employees for this kind of help, this is a unique situation, I have been building a relationship with my VZW guys for two years+, not all VZW employees have a clue about mod's, and mod's technically void the warranty) I am hoping to learn enough about these tools, SDK and adb, to help myself before the next time, and I will hopefully be gaining some of this knowledge from my friends at my VZW store soon. I will also be looking forward to the help I receive from fine people such as yourself and people in this community in future endeavors.
I will stop basically hijacking this thread now

I know alot of people are "better safe than sorry" mentality. but I have returned 2 phones that were fully rooted, updated, s-off running custom roms and I had no issues. in fact ive never had an issue using warranty exchange. ive exchanged phones that I broke (like broke.. with pieces coming off). I just call and tell the operator lady my phone doesnt work, i dont know why.. it was just working earlier and now it wont turn on.. they send me a new phone and I send back the broken one and everyone is happy.
They only confirm that the numbers on the phone match your account. Not the reasons you are sending it Back. the warhouse guy that opens your box isnt the same guy you talked to, nor do they have information about your phone call to the tech. They simply open the box, scan the numbers and move on.

Thanks to every one of you on this thread. I am finally breaking free from WinMo and getting Dinc after a lot of research. I like Verizon but hate the bloatware they pack onto Androids and all the other phones, so I will be fiddleing with ROMs. If I screw up I am looking here first to see how to get it back to stock so I can get my new one with the insurance coverage.
Everytime I get to serouosly looking around these forums I learn great new stuff. I will donate to the XDA someday soon!

Okay. so im a noob. Just need to ask. What do you guys mean by stock recovery? I just rooted my phone but need to unroot to send it in for work at Verizon. Could you help me out?

I'm Screwed!

I have to return my Vibrant to T-Mo and need to unroot. But I don't think I'm really rooted in the first place. I downloaded the RyanZas lagfix app. I clicked on root phone. I went into recovery and reinstalled packages. My phone says it's rooted, but there is no update.zip file anywhere. I can't even find a "download" file in Astro. I have the Superuser icon in my apps, but can't delete that either. I just want to get this phone to where I can send it back to T-Mo without voiding my warranty. Also in the lagfix app, it says I am rooted. I don't even have the option to root, only to unroot. When I try that, it just reboots my phone, but never "unroots".
Another thing...when I look at my free space, I have 1754 mb out of 1917 mb available. If I was rooted, would I have less space available?
I'm sure it's VERY obvious that I'm a newbie to all this, so if you have any ideas for me, please talk to me like I'm a 1st grader ;-)

I have the Superuser icon in my apps, but can't delete that either. I just want to get this phone to where I can send it back to T-Mo without voiding my warranty. Also in the lagfix app, it says I am rooted. I don't even have the option to root, only to unroot. When I try that, it just reboots my phone, but never "unroots".
Another thing...when I look at my free space, I have 1754 mb out of 1917 mb available. If I was rooted, would I have less space available?
I'm sure it's VERY obvious that I'm a newbie to all this, so if you have any ideas for me, please talk to me like I'm a 1st grader ;-)

I sent in a phone with bionix final on it rooted and they didn't charge me for it I was having problems with other people not being able to hear me but once I sent it in and got my new one I was not charged any additional fees I'm not even sure they really check the phone they probably just reprogram everything back to stock hell they might not even be looking at the screen you never know, but this is my third vibrant and ive had something on all of the ones I've sent back never heard anything about it you could always try to claim it was refurbished and there was something wrong with it already best of luck anyway

seriously, using odin is really very simple, i used odin 1.7 ( no it dont have a virus before anyone says it) only a couple of nights ago after flashing one of eugenes kernels, long story short i was stuck at the boot animation, hadnt backed up like a noob and was stuck, i followed that thread and the hardest part for me was download mode on the phone and thats really simple, seriously if you need it back to total stock have a go at odin

I'd love to have a go at odin, except seriously, when I say I have no idea what I'm doing...I REALLY mean it! Can't you root it again and then unroot it...
The thread that has the Odin instructions is only 6 steps...well 5 steps since the last says "wait for it to complete". It's not as daunting as it seems...

You download Odin to your computer with the .pit & the .tar file then run it from there. There's a video tutorial in the Vibrant Bible sticky in the Dev forum.

okay, I sucked it up, got over my fear, got everything downloaded. Phone was in download mode, then went black. Now all I can get on it is a picture of a cell phone, then an exclamation point, then a pic of a computer.
I really am trying to understand. I did get the files needed and the phone in download mode. Opened odin, put the files in while my phone was in download mode and plugged in. Then the above happened.

OMG!!!!!! I think it is finally working!!!! Thank you for your help!!!
Even after all this, I'm sure I won't stop tinkering, lol.
Who knows, maybe I won't have to trade in my phone after doing this? I was really worried about getting the refurb. I'm supposed to get it today, but I'm going to mess around with mine to see if it truly is back to its old beautiful self!

it worried me using odin at first, but when you actually use it, its really very simple, now im hooked on flashing roms lol and using odin to go back when i stuff something up lol

yeah exactly, i was a totally new to odin and thought it was some hard thing to use, it was so simple, i couldnt believe it, get your pantys out of a wad and actually look it up

Froyo Update Won't Install

I have the Samsung Fascinate and I recently rooted it to get all the wonderful benefits that come with rooting.
I downloaded the leaked Froyo update, renamed it "update.zip" and put it in my sd card folder in order to update.
I then turned off my phone and pushed the power button plus the volume up and down until I got to the boot screen. I kept getting an error saying it couldn't verify the package (or something along those lines) and then it sent me to a screen with the triangle, exclamation point and the little droid guy.
I also tried using Rom Manager but the same thing happened.
I hear you are supposed to use Odin, but I am running on a mac and Odin is a windows application.
Please help me, I'm desperate to get the Froyo update on my device.

Yikes u didn't do any research at all did you?? U can't use Odin on Mac....and u need it. Do u even have cwm? Probably not since u didn't Odin. U need to Odin cwm...Make a backup...Odin eb01 modem...flash rom. Update.zip is not correct...u don't rename .zip roms...you flash them via cwm. Not trying to bash u....but you are way off...and getting help via forums will b tough.
You need to go to irc and be polite and find some help there. Someone should hopefully be able to help you...I will b on eventually.

I did my research but if I'm not literate with how or what a CWM is or how to use it, that doesn't mean I didn't do my research.
But are you telling me I can't install the update without a windows computer?
I have access to one where I am but I would rather know all the steps before I get on someone else's computer and start trying to figure it out there.
I looked through all 50 or so pages of the Froyo leaked thread and I saw a few people who understood all these things, but if I don't understand and there isn't a tutorial it makes it harder for me to accomplish my goal.

This might work if u can get into download mode. U need to find all the links urself since I'm on tapatalk.
First off...find a pc. Without one you can't do anything. Put ur eb01 rom on sdcard for later. Instal the 32 bit or 64 bit Samsung drivers depending on ur pc. For many..its the 32 bit. Then get Odin. U will need to find a link to cwm...if I'm not mistaking there is one on like the 2nd or 3rd page in android development section...will say updated cwmq for dj05 or dl09 or something like that. Find directions of how to use Odin...but simply place the cwm.tar file in the pda section on Odin...then click start. When that's done...u should make a backup...however...u may not b able to boot up because of what u have already done. U may try odining the eb01 modem. Once u have that done...hold up down and power to get I to your new updated cwm. From there click instal zip from sdcard...and flash ur eb01 rom of choice....wipe wipe wipe...reboot system.
Again...this may not work since I'm not possitive what u already did to ur phone by not doing your research. Like I already said...be polite and head over to irc. .someone will have more time than I do to fix ur phone.

Not to be a ****...but the first thing you learn when reading is how to flash the modem using ODIN...so, yeah....
Since you've f'd up the phone already. Download the restore to stock files and odin. Go to someone with a PC and follow the restore directions to the T. DO NOT FALTER.

Honestly, you haven't done anything to your phone yet, so it shouldn't be running any differently than it was before.
There is a way to push CWM using ADB and Terminal on a Mac, but you would still need Odin to flash the modem, so might as well do everything that way. Download this Odin package from Android Central, and flash that using the PDA box in Odin. After that, you can flash a different 2.2 ROM or theme if you like

The only thing I am having trouble with is how to "flash" something.

Go to the Eb01 modem thread and read it. They will tell you how to "flash". You download the modem, plug in your phone, select PDA in ODIN and hit write or whatever...

Not searching for things will get you flamed, ignored and banned (If not reading the rules). The reason I suggested you flash back to complete stock is because until you know what flashing is, difference between a ROM and a Radio...you are in dangerous territory of bricking your phone.

Or is it that because the guy who posted the ROM actually modified it, it's no longer signed with the Samsung or Verizon key?

It's always recommended to wipe. Those that don't are typically those who end up complaining about bad battery life, force close loops and utter suckageness...now flashing let's say super clean 2.0 to 2.2...that's fine bypassing the wipe, but imho that's the only exception.

You can install without wiping (saying from experience) as long as you dont mind problems later. I had plenty of force close problems and widget problems when I didnt wipe data.
Most ROM here are modified, to help protect the person who leaked it.

Interesting. Do we know the cause of those problems? How come no such problems exist when you update OTA with a similar official build?
I'm a developer and it seems weird to me that if you're starting with a stock ROM and upgrading to another stock ROM, apps will have issues. Or are the issues due to the fact that the newer ROM is still buggy (and that's probably why they haven't officially released it yet)?
Also, it doesn't hurt to try, right? And if I do get problems, THEN I can just do a simple wipe and start off clean. But if I don't have huge problems, I don't have to go through the trouble of restoring all my apps and settings, logging into everything again, etc.

it's not hard to restore apps/data, use titanium backup.
go ahead and try it without wiping, just do a full nandroid backup first. then if it sucks or you get funny errors you can revert really easily. I'd wipe with a major change like this, but if you're determined to try it there's really no big downside. just back up!
I ran EB01 over the weekend, didn't like a couple of things and was back up and running on DL09 in no time when I decided to switch back.

Its recommended to wipe but I've seen it a lot where u OK not wiping... u can try without and it u get bootloop just do a wipe. Like posted...titanium backup is ur bff when I mod.
Also about the post about me being rude.. I gave u the info u need...just telling you to research. U said u did, and I pointed out u didn't. If your not going to take the time to learn what ur doing...then expect help ASAP...expect ppl to b a bit rude. Ppl are welcome to help...but if u do something dumb without research...expect people to tell you.

Just FYI everyone, I was able to to install Froyo without wiping and everything works fine. (except that my home screen shortcuts and maybe even some of my settings got reset... which was one of the things I was trying to avoid... but whatever.). The only issue I've run into so far is that Google Maps hangs for many seconds every once in a while. But I reset its internal cache and it's better now. All other apps are working fine.

SM-S727VL Root and Recovery

I cannot for the life of me get this phone rooted or a recovery installed. Odin always fails and ADB doesn't recognize the device. Does anyone have any info on rooting this device? I really just want to at least be able to update this thing to nougat.

Nobody knows much about this device since it's not that popular. Some team named TWRP builder built a twrp for the SM-S727VL but it cannot be flashed even when converting to .tar.md5 or .tar.
Also I believe the bootloader on this phone is locked and CROM service does not function (if I am correct) on this device. CROM service will show it being unlocked but it seems to be lying to you.

Well that figures, im willing to use my device to work at it if anyone knows where to start.

I have 3 of these... not a noob but not an expert...say Pre-elite lol. I'm wanting to learn how to go further than use everybody else's solutions to root my phone's if somebody can give me some advice as to where to start as in I know how to root put it that way I was one of the people back in the day with the Evo when it was actually difficult no worries most of them were fine but these files we keep flashing these ROMs these kernels these firmwares where does one start when a phone like this 727 VL is obscure supposedly and nobody is doing anything to be able to root them I have everything that I need I'm sure and if I don't get it. It's somebody point me to a person or in the right direction to get started on what I need to due to learn how to write for I mean what where's the first step on these I've always just use everybody else's files. If that even makes any sense to anybody and anybody can give me a hand or show me the right way I'd be willing to do the work from there on I just need somebody to stick up a finger and say go there.... I mean if we have a twrp written, and we have OEM unlock, then why can't one of us do this I've been around long enough I've read long enough I've never once posted in these forms but I've read them daily... I know I got the skills I just need to know which ones to use. Odin fails like he said, fastboot for some reason still won't recognize, I actually made it one step with one of mine but it has to be a little incorrect because the only thing noticeable is it pops up with vo LTE at the top instead of just regular LTE like this one I'm on now. I was able to flash it with Odin believe it or not with what seems to be possibly just stock S727VLUDU2AQG1_ENG_boot_boxwares.tar
BUT the point is I was able to flash it with Odin and also it did change something because my phone now says there's been unauthorized changes and it wants me to restart it all the time so it can correct itself however it does not, it stays whatever it is, yes I know this is pretty vague however I got to the point where I just started trying anything on one of these phones to see if I could get any kind of anything to work and it did.. kind of.
I will say the USB drivers that's you find every where now do not work you have to go back to looks like version 1.5.5 1.0 SAMSUNG-USB-Driver-for-Mobile-Phones-15510.
With these drivers fast boots if I remember correctly will recognize it when you do fastboot devices however it still hangs on waiting on device. I'm sure I got more information my brains just a little foggy at the moment it is like 3 in the morning and I hope I didn't break any rules posting.
I did try flashing from SD card with no success yet nothing at all just error after error. I have tried twrp however it's supposed to be for this 727 VL I'm sure it's the same one everybody's got because it's only in one place that I've found but it comes up twrp-3.2.1-j7popqltefnvzw-201 and it will not flash.
I realize I have been pretty obscure however there's no reason why if all 5 of us with this VL stick together we can't get it rooted because I'm not going to give up LOL

I have a twrp that I managed to find on the internet but i have heard that it was for an older version of the phone. meaning it has to be updated somehow. I do know that the phone had a security patch update on June 1, 2018. I am currently trying to figure out if how to update the twrp or something, but I think I might need a little assistance. Because I am no expert ROM developer or anything of the sort but I am trying to learn, so I can eventually build a custom ROM for this phone.

Like I said in another thread about this issue, We are not to that bridge yet. The bootloader is locked and we cannot flash it yet.

Is there a way to tell if the bootloader is locked? (Sorry if I am asking noobish questions. I am just trying to learn.)

You can tell the Bootloader is locked because you get “Secure Check Failed” if you try to flash anything that has been modified. For example; The TWRP recovery file. We need root to bypass the Bootloader.

I can now access all files on my 2nd of 3 J7s. I am attaching pics. When I try to duplicate and copy on my other J7 ,the factory ones, I get check file permissions access denied. However I've passed it on this one particularly. It also now gives me a security notice on the lock screen of unauthorised actions have been detected please restart phone to correct them. However even when you restart the phone it stays so it isnt temporary. I have actually even going to factory reset to see believe it or not it stays. So the next step would be one in which I need some input to know which files I need to modify to be able to install BusyBox Superuser and from their custom recovery excetra and we're in I believe correct me if I'm wrong.

Can you please share the method that you used to gain read/write access? If you indeed have temp access, I can make it permanent also what firmware build are you on?

I'm not home right now but I'm headed there I'll be there in a couple hours I can if somebody wants to give you their email or email me because I can't post links or anyting I have the file that I used the wrong and I have the driver for Samsung for Odin that I used which I think I've mentioned in my original or previous post and by the way it is not temporary. This is permanent. I did a factory reset and it stays. I just need to know which permissions which file to go to to get my Superuser installed because it's still will not let me install that. But email me or tell me how to send it on here or something that way I can let you guys know or give you guys what I got. I'll tell you this I did not flash it with a v l ROM. I flashed it using a Verizon ROM the only thing that didn't work was my wife I which I think I originally and said back when I made my first comment on this thread I haven't done anything else I set my phone down and it was done clear back there I just didn't realize it. But it is not a VL ROM it's a Verizon ROM a v not a straight talk and my wife I would not which turned out to be something unrelated. I'm in no way trying to keep this from anybody because I know just how much we all want these damn things. But I would sure love to finish the job that I started but I do not mind handing over what I've got.
