I go to wifi settings
long press on the wifi network that I am trying to connect
Choose modify
choose "show advanced options"
choose Static IP under ip settings
But SAVE button is greyed
Can someone help me?
So when I tried this, and I picked static IP, it shows ghosted information of what the phone would be getting as an address/gateway/prefix length/dns if you had stayed with DHCP.
I filled in the IP box with an address that could work on the network and the save button activated.

I have opened WIFI and connected to my NETGEAR AP, my pda appears in AP's connecting list. But while I open PIE I can't access any website. It always says "Locating", and "The page can not be found" after a while.
Below is my configuration, any problem?
1. Connections -> advanced -> Select Networks -> both are set to "MY WORK NETWORK" -> Edit... -> Proxy Settings -> check the option "This network connects to the Internet".
2. Network cards -> wireless -> in the found AP SSID, set connects to "Internet"
Network cards -> Network Adapters -> My network card connects to "The internet"
I have tried several different configs, but none works.
I am really crazy about it!!
Sounds like a DNS problem....
How are you assigning IP and DNS settings to your phone? Manually, or DHCP from the Netgear?
I just leave it "Use server-assigned IP address". When wifi connected, i can see my pda address is "192.168.1.2" and the AP is "192.168.1.1"
confused...
My laptop works well with WIFI at the same time.
Ive had this with a few DHCP servers in routers, half of the ones I use allocate IP fine but fail to send DNS server details.
Leave IP address allocation as Auto and manually enter your DNS servers. That should fix it.
if you've got an ip address in the phone, try typing the IP address of a server, eg. microsoft, in the browser....if it connects, then it proves it's a DNS problem.....then, as suggested....add the DNS settings manually...
Thanks Britman and Vap. It works now after I fill in the DNS server in wireless adapter. I should have remembered this.
omg...im having the same problem now. i know i had my wifi working because it worked out of the box and i was using agile messenger earlier today.
my settings are the same. what happened? i tried putting the DNS server in with no luck.
WiFi on Wizard
Try set "Power Mode" in "WiFi Settings" on Best Performance". To me WORK.

wow, you are good. heres a virtual pat on the back
Indeed, although I'm very happy with the wifi in the Wizard in general (considering size and power limitations), it's certainly a long way shy of the signal strength of the internal broadcom adapter in my laptop.
Same problem
I am also having this same problem, but all this DNS stuff is a bit over my head. On the settings on my wizard I see the ip address, and the mac address ( under wi-fi settings -> advanced tab). I logged into my router and went to the DHCP page. On that page, it shows that DHCP is enabled and if I click on the Clients button, it shows my device with the coresponding ip and mac. On the DHCP page, I can enter DNS numbers, but where do I get these numbers?
The DNS settings (servers) are provided by your ISP
Depending on the router, if you look at the general or status pages, you should see the DNS ip addresses. Or, if you already have a windows pc connected on the same router, simply type 'ipconfig /all' at a coomand prompt - this will show you the addresses.
So what happens when you're at an airport or somewhere public with wifi? How do you know what the DNS settings are to enter them?
Most airport/public access locations with wifi setups normally have their DHCP servers configured with the DNS settings all in place (ie....nothing for you to do)....
However, some places will require the user to enter some information (for example, dns settings, WEP key, etc)

Can you disable the attempt by the phone to go to Cigular GPRS when you try to use a browser?
alright i need help connecting to my home wireless router. (and yes it is a wireless G router, i just installed that thing that lets it work with wireless G)
alright so here is what i do step by step.
1. hit the comm manager button, and hit WLAN so it connects.
2. choose my account
3. enter the network key
4. I hit settings, and i see i have a great signal
5. a pop up says "unable to assign a server-assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network Settings".
6. I hit settings in comm manager then hit wi-fi settings
7. I see all my info on the main button and i hit the advanced button
8. Status = associated to network... Mac address is filled in... IP says 0.0.0.0 and i can't change that.
if anybody can help me that would be great.
9. now after a long time of not doing anything, a pop up says the network key is incorrect. enter the correct key and tap connect. Except I know it was correct because i entered it very carefully, and all my info (#7) showed up.
somebody help me
try static ip allocation
start>settings>connections > network cards > WLAN card> IP, subnetmask, dns gateway...etc etc u know the drill
alright I put in all of those settings, but still when i turn wifi on, it still asks me for my network key, and still try's connecting to the normal WLAN.... ughhh...
Seems to me like your security settings arent quite right, but thats a guess. I had a similar problem with a PC when I had enabled MAC filtering. You don't have that turned on on your router do you.
To rule out (or in) security settings, I would disable my routers security and make sure I could log on to an open network, then go from there.
Oh I know i can log into an open network, I did at a coffee shop a little while ago. And I know I can connect to my router, my other computer is and so can my PSP.
I have a similar problem. I didnt have this problem a couple of weeks ago and managed to connect without a problem. However now I'm having the same symptoms as the first poster.
When I disabled the security setings on my router, I managed to connect and received an IP address. However DNS was not working. Explorer refused to bring up any page. I couldnt even access my router's home page using just the IP address. I even tried entering the DNS IP address manually but this didnt solve the problem. Skype managed to connect without a problem though.
Cheers

I had the same issue even after I turned off the security, mac filter etc. It would connect once but after a suspend, it wouldn't connect at all. I have a d-Link DI614+ router. Finally figured out that the MDA was not going thru the channels properly. I had my router set to 10 and it would not budge beyond 11. I just changed the router channel to default to 11 and turned on security and filtering one by one and everything worked. My advice is to set the router to a default state and attempt to connect it. If that doesn't work, throw a temper tantrum and remove all settings on the MDA and go thru step by step again...
Hey everyone. Well the title says it all. Is it possible to manually type in an IP address to a specific router instead of the phone actually automatically giving me one?? If not, are there any programs that can accomplish this?
thanks
Easy there, you want to enter a fixed IP in your router in the computer? Or you want to select IP in the case of its type in the IP network on your phone?
Depending on the router, it works with DHCP, Auto IP, this is more of the router for WLAN network, it is configured with an IP again, to not be that your network is DHCP, it?
Computer (fixed) -> Router (fixed) + Router (DHCP wlan)
Any wishes?
thanks
If you have the IP of your wireless network, and only enter the track in his case:
Ex: 192.168.0.x
Ja, if your network is DHCP, assigns an IP Auto, and so leave them the phone!
Do not confuse this: If the connection of your home is wireless (radio) you will configure your phone to use the same sign, so you need a wi-fi router
Yes, there is a way to set a static ip on your WM device. All you have to do is go to Settings, Select the Connections tab at the bottom, select WI-FI, Select Network Adapters tab, Make sure "The Internet" is selected from the drop down menu, Select IEEE 802.11b/g Compatible WI-FI Adapter, select Use specific IP Address and fill in the requested info.
I never really thought about it until you asked. i knew there was a way to do it i just never took the time to look at the options.
I hope this helps, if not let me know.
I'm having trouble understanding your question. the phone doesnt specify the IP, if the router has DHCP enabled, then it'll automatically assign the phone the IP. You want it so that when you're on your WLAN, the IP address is fixed? If that's the case, then go into your router's setting and reserve a specific IP that you want your phone to have. All you have to do is input your phone's MAC address into the router's setting with the desirable IP address. The next time you're on WIFI, your phone will have the IP that you assigned.
Hello,
When looking in the wifi options of my HD2 I saw an option to set a static IP adres with dns etc.
Since I use static IP addresses at home and DHCP disabled, I set it up with a static IP. Works fine...at home. When I was at work I wanted to connect to the wifi there, but was unable to do so, probably because he was trying to use the static IP from home...
Why isn't the HD2 switching between these connections/IP settings?....
If this is not possible, why did they implement the option for a static IP on a mobile phone?
Ty
Just like on your laptop, if you assign a static IP it will keep it even if you move to work and connect there. You have to remove it manually to switch back to DHCP. Nothing uncommon.

Uhm didn't you give the answer? To connect to a network that has no DHCP...
I mean something as network profiles for each wireless network.
For example on my previous phone, a Samsung Jet, when I looked for wireless networks, I could set up everything for each different network he found.
Meaning when I selected my wifi from home he used the settings with the static IP from that profile, and when I was at work he selected the wireless profile with a DHCP IP from work.
Now I only have 1 set of options regardless of where I want to connect.
A static IP is not really "mobile" friendly to
There's nothing to do that by default in WM.
Seems theres an app for it though:

Well, add a DHCP server at home
The static IP address is a setting for the network card, as you well know. The network card does not change just because you go to a different location. Also, due to a bug with Windows Mobile, you may want to forget about using a static IP address. I don't know about 6.5, but with 6.1 it caused my data connection to try and use the same IP address, which was obviously an issue with my service provider, who just refused the connection every time. I was without a data connection for a day, before I figured out what the problem was.
Hi guys,
My stock note4 on 5.1.1 doesnt connect to the wifi at work on the 1st floor where my workstation is. It does connect easy on the ground floor.
My laptop and ASUS tablet connects easy on the work wifi.
As a result i have to bring my own MIFI device to connect over my own personal wifi contract with Telkom.
When i try connect on the work wifi it says "obtaining IP address", then says "failed". But i can connect when im on the ground floor.
It did the same even before i upgraded the firmware OTA at home.
What could be the problem?
Happens.....could be your router.
Try this workaround.
Go to wifi > press and hold on your office's wifi , tap on "modify network config" or "connect to this network" whichever option comes up
2) A new window will pop up, there tap on check box "show advanced options"
3) scroll down and under IP SETTINGS change it from DHCP to static
4) In the Ip address field type 192.168.1.X X=ANY NUMBER LIKE 23,45,56 try any random two digit number..... here 192.168.1 < this should match your routers default gateway...which could be 192.168.0.X OR 192.168.1.X .... you may check on other devices which are already connected to the network for their ip.
5) Enter default gateway (findout your routers default gateway which as i said earlier could be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 etc
6) Hit connect.......see if it works..
if not working no harm in trying, you can undo the above steps
NOTE : I AM NO EXPERT ON THIS THIS IS JUST AN IDEA WHICH MIGHT WORK, HOPE IT HELPS.
