I'm confused - what exactly is an unlocked bootloader? I've unlocked/rooted phones before. The S5 I just bought from a verizon store seems to have a bootloader I can get into and select an option to "install zip from sdcard" - which I presume if I installed a superuser APK via this method - wouldn't that provide root?

Accidentally accepted OTA, lost root.
BL unlocked (dev ed)
All threads I've found say root no longer works on 98.18.94 but I'm guessing that assumes locked BL which mine is not (dev ed)
Haven't done this in a while -- please help...
Motochopper? Safestrap? Matt's?
Or can I just use ADB to flash TWRP 2.6 -- will that root?
Patience and help greatly appreciated...
Thanks!
uhh if your bootloader is unlocked, just flash a custom recovery, then download the superuser binary and flash it through recovery. boom, rooted
I recently updated to the Cm13 but i cannot root my phone.
I have the same question, I did a deep clean and installed COS 13. I lost my root but it kept TWRP though. I am wondering how to get it back.
Install this zip via TWRP, it works only ZNH0EAS2JK: link
Reboot your phone
After that, go to the Developer options, there are a new "Root access" options.
Switch it to "Apps only"
That's all, now you have root access
Is there a guide on how to install Magisk for the att galaxy s7, without a custom recovery?
I tried using Magisk manager and it made my phone reboot to a screen that says "Unauthorized Software Not Made By Att has been found on your phone and is locked please go to your nearest att store for help" so I think we are out of luck
Days ago, I had the wonderful idea of installing TWRP. I didn't want to install a custom ROM, I simply wanted TWRP + the current android. However, after I installed TWRP, the Android 8.0 was wiped out. I thought I would still keep the Android 8...
I tried to install many older versions (from April, June, July, August) of the stock ROM 8.0 via Odin, but all of them failed (as far as I learned, they failed because they had an older version than the Bootloader I had installed), then I successfully installed a stock ROM build from December.
Now, my phone doesn't pass the SafetyNet Test. It fails on "CTS profile match" (I read on the internet it is due to the unlocked Bootloader).
Interesting thing is: when I browse to "Developer Options -> OEM unlock", it says "Bootloader is already unlocked", even if the option is unset.
Now I have no TWRP (and I don't want to play with it anymore) and I have no root access.
Does anyone know how to "relock" the Bootloader or do anything that will allow me to pass the SafetyNet Test?
Hi, has anyone been able to use Google pay with unlocked bootloader (no root or custom recovery)?
I recently upgraded to Android 10 OOS with clean flash and thought to leave it stock (I had rooted and unlocked bootloader earlier. )
If there's no other way to run Google pay, I might as well root it and use Magisk hide.
Thanks in advance.
