[Q] Broken screen, how can I make a backup? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I dropped my G2 and unfortunately, the screen broke. The touchscreen only works in certain areas, so even when I can get into TWRP, I can't use it to make a backup. Here's the thing; I want to back up everything. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can do this?

Can't you reboot it into TWRP and then use adb to pull the data partition from your phone?

Just tried that. For some reason, adb isn't working on this PC quite right. This problem with my phone is one of many I've been having with all my computers as of late. I'm getting kind of sick of it

When I broke my screen I used USB OTG with a keyboard/mouse. My newest Logitech with a Unifying receiver didn't work but an older one did just fine.

Perhaps there's an app I can use? I really don't want to go out and buy something I'll only use once; I just want a simple straightforward solution.

LG PC software has an option called on-screen phone. I used it once with my optimus G with similar issues. It takes control of you phone through wifi.

[Q] NOOB - Trying to Root

Hello all,
Been trying to root my epic for a few days, and can't seem to figure it out. EPIC has the 2.2.1 firmware version. Here are the steps I'm taking.
1. From computer (WIN XP)
2. Installed Samsung mobile usb drivers v1.3.800.0
3. Installed one.click.root.exploitv2.5.5 from firon.net/xda/one.click.root.exploitv2.5.5.zip
4. Phone
5. Changed usb debugging to enable
6. Connected phone to computer via usb cable, keeping phone active my moving around to various menu screens.
7. From computer
8. Double clicked run.bat file
9. It ran busybox by skeeterslint
10. Daemon started successfully
11. Phone is not connected
I’ve tried rebooting computer. Rebooting phone after step 5. uninstalled and re-installed USB drivers in step 2. I know the usb cable is good because I used it to copy all data on the sd card to computer before I started all of this.
Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
Use a different USB cable. If it's the stock cable... I don't care what it does work for. Just don't use it.
Also, switch USB ports.

Yes, I hate the stock cable. I tried to get a screeny earlier today using the sdk tools, and I barely got the shot before it disconnected. So I grabbed my dads work motorola cord, worked fine all day.

Reboot the phone and try it fresh from boot. Just had this problem rerooting my gf's phone which mysteriously lost root.

Also don't use CWM2.5.5, use the new Clockworkmod 3.0. It will speed up your phone quite a bit with the new EXT4 filesystem and allow you to flash custom ROMs without issue if you so choose.

I'd say it's significantly more than an opinion, EXT4 is the filesystem of choice for the Developers and the ONLY option with a several Roms.

Which I understand and agree completely. But the issue here is solving his phone usb disconnection problem. Cwm 3.0 is prbly not the answer to that.

While true, I am recommending that he try to root with 3.0 instead, so that he doesn't have to do it later and possibly have to solve these issues all over again.

Also if you have one of the newfangled firewall programs like Comodo, you'll need to tell it the rooting executable files are safe before running. If you don't it will force you to confirm their safety to run many times over as you launch, and will stop root from happening because the timing has to be precise for it to run correctly (this was an early issue I had).

Blank screen through HDMI.Help needed.

I have an Atrix 4G, AT&T branded, but i use it in Europe (unlocked). I have a HD dock. When I'm trying to connect the phone over HDMI (with ot without the dock) blank screen appears on the tv. I'm using the right input, i tried with an LG P990. The phone askes me if i want to use the Entertainment Center or (occasionally) the Webtop. Have you got any idea how to fix this?
System version: 4.5.141.MB860.ATT.en.Us
Webtop version: N_01.77.37.P
It is an unrooted and unmodified phone. What could be the problem? How can i fix it? Thanks for your replies.
Did you use the same cable with the LG P990? Also, have you tried bypassing the dock by plugging straight from the phone to the TV.
i have tried with the LG's cable and the motorola's cable as well. Also i have tried to connect the phone directly to the tv. Same appears on the screen (blank, nothing).
If it never worked, I would guess it's a hardware issue. The only other thing I can think of is do a "clear data" on the webtop app, but I've never done that so do it at your own risk. Anyone else have any ideas?

myphoneexplorer - fjsoft.de
RealVNC.
Works, No Issues. Dont know whether it will work over a USB Cable.
I'm curious as to what purpose you want to be able to do this? What are you wanting to do?
And why not just connect a keyboard and mouse via USB OTG or bluetooth? Saves having to install another app on your phone.

Backup via ADB?

Hey everyone
My Nexus 4 screen cracked, I'm sending it to LG for repair, they explained it will be factory wiped.
Before i send it, can someone explain to a n00b how I can back up my phone's data? I can't use the phone at all, the digitizer is cooked.
Thank you!

For the SD card, use adb pull. Your apps should be backed up with your Google account

Note that adb backup can be unreliable. I suggest making several types of backups--with APK, without APK, with system, without system, etc. Because you don't know which one will restore properly. Also do the more traditional backups, like SMS backup.

That's easy if they're in /sdcard/DCIM. ADB could theoretically back up your photos ("adb backup -shared"), but I wouldn't trust something so important to a tool that didn't appear quite reliable when I tested it.

I appreciate the input!
I totally just realized, I can just plug my phone into the computer and copy and paste. The phone works - the screen just won't register touches. Very silly of me!

what windows program can i use to browse phone files?

I need to extract some files from the phone itself (data for certain apps) but my screen is completely busted and I can only turn the phone on and connect via USB. Any windows program I can use to extract information ? My phone was/is rooted

Try to use hdmi on big TV with mouse. And install root explorer.
Then you will be able to see all things which you can't see in your broken screen.
Try.
