I did a Nandroid backup a while ago but when I do a restore it restores it almost back to defaults. None of my installed apps are there. No customisations on the desktop etc (Like Circlelauncher). I was using Revolver 0.2.1 at the time. I made sure I flashed back to that firmware before doing the restore.
I don't know why it's not restoring everything like it should. When I did the backup I just chose the default backup option (Not advanced or anything) and likewise for the restore.
Any ideas?
I give up. Going to give the nvflash backup and restore method a go.
So my Nexus was acting really slow (I'm on 4.2.1), so I decided to backup via CWM and then factory reset, and do an Advanced Restore to restore my data. I backed up and did factory reset, but when I went to restore my backup, it couldn't be found. Apparently 4.2 moved the default CWM location to search "data/media/" and I didn't have my backups there (obviously). So I moved the clockworkmod folder from /sdcard/ to data/media/ and tried to restore. It gave me an MD5 mismatch, so I researched that, found a solution, and did restore. Unfortunately, that bricked my Nexus 7 so I had to restore via the ToolKit.
My question is…is there any possible way I can restore my data to my now factory-fresh (4.2.1) Nexus 7 from the backup I made? I have the backup and the blobs.
Bump, the same thing just happened to me and I dont want to create a new thread. Is there any way to restore a 4.1.2 backup from a device running 4.2.1? Thanks in advance
EDIT: I solved it by booting into CWM and then pushing the rom, full wiping and installing again
On my G900P, I made a CWM NANDroid backup of 4.4.4 stock rooted ROM. Then I did a full wipe and installed Cyanogenmod 5.0 ROM. Then to revert back I wiped everything (including dalvik cache) and tried to recover the NANDroid backup, which seems to complete without errors, but every user application will force close when launched. Also, SMS or Calls cannot connect.
So is the NANDroid backup corrupt? Did it not flash properly when I recovered it? (tried multiple times)
My suggestion would be to flash the stock rom which is the same version as your NANDroid, 4.4.4, first. Then restore your NANDroid backup.
You shouldn't have to, but it might work.
That doesn't seem to work. The apps still force close / stop working over and over. Here's a lengthy logcat. Anyone have any ideas?
So the phone was going crazy with frequent FCs so I decided to wipe it clean and install a new Resurrection Remix ROM.
Did a nandroid with TWRP 2.8.x.x before wiping and now I have trouble restoring in the new ROM using titanium backup PRO. In TB, I can get to the app selection screen and when the loading bar appears, it never gets past 0%. But it just magically says restore completed after some time. None of the app I chose ever gets restored.
So now I'm trying to extract the apps and data on a PC, and copying them into the phone manually. Question is, how do I get my hands on the files (extensions *.win000,*.win001...) in the nandroid?
I'm not sure about extracting it on a PC as I've never tried, but I believe the archives are multi-part tar.gz files.
If all else fails, you can use an app like Nandroid Manager to browse/extract the contents of a backup.
I just got a s5. And I got it succesfully rooted and also got TWRP working on it.
All the data from my previous phone was transfered to the s5.
Now I made some backups with TWRP with the default settings: Partitions boot, system and data.
With the backups in mind I was thinking I could easily restore it to a previous state.
Thinking I backed up all the data and wanted to make it fresh again, I wanted to restore it.
In the menu I chose the restore option with the same settings as the backup: Partitions boot, system and data.
And it gives a message restoring system succesfull.
But when rebooting, it keeps hanging and at the moment of loading the android system every bit of the system keeps 'hanging'
It keeps saying
'Unfortunately touchwiz startup unsuccesfully'
'Unfortunately youtube startup unsuccesfully'
'Unfortunately greenify startup unsuccesfully'
'Unfortunately app whatever startup unsuccesfully'
And so on and so on
Eventually it starts with a black screen with nothing loaded. Complete blackout.
So this backup doesn't work. And I try my second backup.
Unfortunately also the second backup gave these errors.
And also the third backup!
So the backup files seem the right size, it's some gigabytes, and it alway's keeps saying backup/restore succesfully.
But now it fails to restore and boot the backup
The things I tried.
-Trying three different backups
-Wiping cleaning data/dalvik/cache etc etc
-Restoring a part of the backup. First system, then data, then boot, no succes.
So i'm totally lost! Does somebody know how to fix this? Or have some tips to try??
You can't restore system and boot from a different model phone
That would be like trying to flash a ROM for one model phone to another without porting it
If it was an S5 you backed up, was it the exact same model (ie: G900F etc?)
Flash back to stock, then try restoring only DATA
Or use TiBu to restore your apps from the TWRP backup

Thanks for the reply! It was a backup and restore on the same phone. So that is why I thought it was supposed to be a easy restore.
But I found the solution hidden somewhere in one message on XDA:

Here the steps for if other people will run into the same problem:
Problem: Android 5 is running, with twrp 2.7 performed a back up = Restoring the backup is difficult because it problably doesn't do a clean wipe somehow.
1. I downloaded a cyanogen 11 rom, a Android 4 version.
2. Installed it with TWRP. Somehow it 'wipes' it more efficiently.
3. From cyanogen 11 back to booting TWRP.
4. In TWRP trying the Android 5 restore.
And Amazingly this worked!! = Celebrate!!
