[Q] Anyone experienced S view cover scratching the screen? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I had this problem on my GN3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2521821
The S view cover scratched the oliophobic coating off the GN3's display. My GN3 was exchanged by Samsung under warranty.
Has anyone using the S view case with the GS5 had any troubles like that?
I mean the case is almost identical to the GN3 S view case. Could there be a difference in the strength of the coating of the GS5?
Because I ran some google searches and I didn't find anyone having this problem.
I like the S view cover and wouldn't mind using it again, but it would be stupid to make the same mistake twice.
Thanks.

I'm willing to bet 10$ it was a tiny grain of sand or something equivalent that got trapped under the screen, as a number of my colleagues have been using the official flip case for various galaxy phones with no problems

I'd have to agree with the above comments...
I've been using the s view cover since day one on my s5 and the screen is still mint...

Cracked the glass in my s3: recommend some options?

I got my s3 in September and recently it fell out of my pocket (less than two feet from the ground) and the corner cracked all the way up the side. Right around where the back "button" is. It is hardly on the screen so its not really in the way, but its still very annoying to look at.
As I see it I have a few options
I can bring it into Telus and they can replace the entire screen which would cost me like $250 or so. Because I went to them and they said that they do not do glass only repairs.
I can try to replace the screen myself. I'm sure I would be able to do it, even though I have seen a few videos and it looks quite tedious and risky.
I could try calling Samsung and seeing if they would do anything about it. I have heard a story of someone calling and they did replace it. I imagine I would have to do some pouting and complain about how they said they're gorilla glass was phenomenal. Please let me know if this has worked for you.
And my last option would be leaving it the way it is and waiting for it to spread even more. (Not a fan of this one)
Also since I'm here, can anyone recommend a sturdy yet slim case for the s3? I'm not a huge fan of the otter box but I would like something fairly strong and not too expensive. Links would be great!
Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Well for that I'm sure they could say they never said it was shatter proof and it's still glass
I know, but a foot and a half? It should be able to withstand something so minor, this is "regular use". Maybe I should sue the company that makes my pants for having such tiny pockets.

I would be writing a nice polite letter to Samsung first a letter not email .

any insurance?

Drop anything made of glass onto a solid floor and there's an excellent chance it will break, especially on the corners. Good luck with getting it fixed but a £3 rubber boot from Amazon will protect all the corners but only add 2mm to the thickness.

You could replace the glass yourself.

Screen issues. Lifting?

I do not have photos at the moment(no better camera atm) BUT on the sides the screen seems to be coming up. Bought the week it came out and haven't dropped it or replaced parts. Its not easily seen but I can press the sides down and the screen settles. Also its easily felt with the finger nail, it is not flush with the silver frame. It is like that on both sides. Anyone else have this issue?

If it's causing you issues, then go back to AT&T and explain to them what the problem is, they might be able to swap it out, send it to AT&T or send it to Samsung for repairs.
Oh yeah. No problems with my device.

Well I do not use the insurance anymore, took it off about a month ago. Plus if I take it back they would swap it out for an mf3 so no thankyou xD I am just wondering if anyone else had that issue, aybe it could be that the phone has been getting super hot and caused the glue to mess up? I have sen my phone hit 50 degrees cel and up. I tax my phone a lot because I am on it all the time, I prefer it more than the PC.
See
It can be possible that the heat is causing the issue but the adhesive that is applied onto modern phones are very strong. Especially the adhesive bonding the glass and AMOLED. I doubt the heat from the phone will cause any kind of issues towards the adhesive on the AMOLED+glass. You'll need to get the screen to around 70C (constant) for the adhesive to become soft.
Regarding the insurance, if you bought it the week it came out you should still have warranty with Samsung. (1 year manufacturer)

[Q] Weird extra on my OEM back cover

Hi All,
I broke my poor N4's back glass, and recently purchased a replacement back cover. Once it arrived, one thing odd that struck me is that there's an extra "chip"(?) attached to it - that neither existed on the original nor in any photo i've seen. There are also some little plastic shards around it (please see attached photo.)
I am not one to say the government is tapping all of our phones, but I'd like to know what it is!
Does anyone know what it is?
Best,
Mr K.
It's a chip for the NSA to listen to you while you have phone sex.

[Q] Cleaning the camera sensor

Hi all..
I recently purchased a used Galaxy SIV from someone and once I got home and took a snap with the phone, I noticed a "blurred speck" on all pictures on the same location.
I believe a speck of dust might have somehow gotten onto the lens and was wondering if anyone knows of a manual online on how to clean it.
I've tried using compressed air and wiping the lens with a lens cloth but neither resolved it.
I found a video online for cleaning the lens for the S3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuqQD3AKnds but cant seem to find something for the S4.
Any suggestions?
Make sure the plastic film is not still on it. I know there is a small circle of film the same size as the lens

Dang, I read this and then removed mine! Ha! But there is a hole in the plastic I removed so I guess it really wasn't causing a problem.

[NOOB] Window case damage on the screen

Hey there, I just bought the case and on the day of delivery I started reading up about damage to the screen caused by the metal scratching the glass that it comes in contact with. I'm excited to have it but not at the cost of my screen, what are your experiences and what do you recommend?

Even though I don't use my Window case all the time, I don't see any kind of damage on the screen (screen protector actually) from when I used it. I always put my G2 on my back pocket and oftentimes I forget to take it out while sitting down and no damage whatsoever.
Just make sure to install a screen protector.
Cheers!
