Hello guys. I just want to ask for a recommendation for camera for AOSP roms for our G2. I am currently on a stock rom now because of the camera. And also, does the ios of our g2 works even for aosp roms? Thank you very much.
I don't worry too much about camera as I don't use it much, but, I like the Google camera myself.

Besides just using the LG camera for AOSP?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522889
Search next time. please.
camera zoom fx. search for it on the play store
"a better camera"; have a look on the play store, by FAR my favorite ! a lot a features, quite good pictures for an aosp rom. Indeed, there are many parameter to compensate the weakness of the aosp camera (no LG driver). not so far from LG stock quality, but still beyond.
Google camera is quite good too, in very good light conditions. But no parameter, nothing.
I tried a few apps since I was asked on G+. Lenovo SNAPit camera is still pretty awesome. It tried capturing detail the others just left a blurred garble.

@russells.android Here is the lg stock camera modded to work with aosp. Best I found for low light situations. Better than Lenovo super camera in low light.

Had purchased this phone with lot of expectations about OIS camera but unfortunately the camera itself is capable bug LG provided with not a great camera app.
Now I know that there are mods available which to some extent improve the quality of photos but still its not upto the mark.
Now I want to know whether you are using any good camera app which you consider gives better result than the stock camera?
Looking forward to your suggestions.

I personally think the camera itself is great piece of hardware, the software is on the other hand, however, as many reported (and I agreed) the IQ (image quality) when taking in the good light source is super. In another hand, when taking under low light condition, it's crap.
There is a modded version of it, if yours is rooted, give it a try.
I tend not to install 3rd party app.
I've tried the camera on stock lg rom and 4.4.2 on PA, both pictures look terrible compared to the Nexus 5's camera with HDR mode.
I am using Focal camera (from the ex-CyanogenMod app ). Great UI and features. Still beta, but no lags for me)

personally i think the camera is pretty decent on the g2 id imagine the lumia ones are better obviously but fail to see another phone thats better than the g2's
lmao. random noobs who haven't even used the other device talking about comparison? what do you know? nothing.. keep theorycrafting.
the nexus 5 has an optimized camera app that has better image stabilization and HDR+ mode that actually works by taking 5 pictures and combining it into a much crisper picture compared to normal mode. the HDR mode in the G2 looks practically the same in terms of sharpness and quality.

I'm the opposite heh, I returned my Nexus 5 and picked up a G2 and think the pictures from the G2 look considerably better, in anything but great lightning. Outside with great lighting I think both create very good photos. Additionally, while the software part on the G2 isn't great it's still well ahead of the camera software on the Nexus, which is about as bare bones basic as you can get.

I have tried both phones. One does not need to be Einstein to see the difference.

I think it actually only uses 3 pictures though. But not sure. I saw in a review that it uses 3 with 4.4.2 to make it faster a little. But it still turns out great. I personally can't see the difference in pictures unless placed side by side but that's just me I think since I don't really pay too close detail.
One thing I want to say is video on the nexus 5 is terrible unless full day light and even then not very good. It darkens it so much (which I think is software) but it's practically unusable with out lots of light because of that. Hopefully Google fixes that

Is the image stabilization a hardware feature? Like, in the VS980 version of the G2, does image stabilization work when using AOSP-based KitKat roms and the default AOSP camera?
The Lenovo Supercamera or whatever it's called will blow you away mate.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/szwk43z5gio6b37/Super Camera.apk
That one is in my Dropbox, it's the same APK from the thread in Apps & Games section.
I think they renamed it to Lenovo SNAPit too, not sure.
Change it to 13MP in the settings menu too, because it's set lower as default.
Here are some shots I just took (huge images)

Not a photographer so they might look ****, I don't know lol.
I'm disappointed too with g2 camera (d802), it is extremely slow and in low light it is impossible to take pictures. Then I installed aosp roms and things got worse. Here some pics, taken in very low light with aosp camera (android 4.4.2) but even with stock rom camera I can not obtain decent results.

Well the camera image processing software is also pretty good from LG and they also paid for the licences and Aosp is free so they don't have an amazing camera quality like from big company's who invest lots of money in those software.
Here are some tips I can suggest you,

http://d-h.st/xR7 ( Jishnu sur 3.5 Camera for CM)
More I can't really suggest. The only remaining thing you could do then is search on the wide web for an camera app which is good but it will probably go hard since most camera apps also on playstore aren't with advanced image processing as on the LG stock camera. If you are on Cyanogenmod I suggest to also take a look at the 3.5 camera from Jishnu sur maybe. And also the others
Goodluck:good:
P.S. I don't know or they all work good also with image processing etc since I still have to decide which phone I will get myself .
Just a quick question and would like a answer from people who has tried both CM11/AOSP Roms and TW
Is the image quality just as good on a AOSP/CM11 ROM than on a TW ROM or is it worse?
In other phones I have owned I noticed CM11 Roms produced images that were not as good quality as stock one due to different processing.

Hi,
Used Cm11 A long time and havent had any problems.
After switching to touchwiz, just notices that the Touchwiz Camera does Pretty Bad in low Light. You need pretty much light for Good Results, the Camera performs Pretty much Worse than the AOSP Cam in nornmal daylight.
You get awesome Pics with AOSP in every type of Lighting. Touchwiz can only do good with much light but also focuses slower and heavier than AOSP.
AOSP saves pretty much time at Focussing and taking good shots without much light.
I would keep AOSP if you use your Cam often and expect good quality at every Aspect.
Hope i helped:good:

IMO, It focuses much better on TW than AOSP, as the Camera driver doesn't constantly waste time trying to focus on "everything" like on AOSP rather than actual focusing on what you press.
Detail is fine, just the drivers controlling the camera chip.
I know that the quality of the photos taken on AOSP cannot possibly be as good as the ones on Touchwiz based ROMs unless the camera application is ever successfully ported over somehow.
Personally, I really hate Touchwiz and I like this phone because of this big beautiful screen.
However, amongst the camera applications available for us AOSP users, which one do you think takes the best quality images? It can be either paid or free.
I am currently using Dirty Unicorns, which has been a pretty awesome custom ROM for me.
Been using Google Camera before. But find that some shots sometimes were over exposure. I'm using Manual Camera now, will give it a try in the next couple of days.
hey guys, just wondering if you guys can list your recommendation for best alternate camera on R4P when using a custom rom (LOS, RR, etc)?
Biggest annoyance for me i've noticed is "shutter lag"; the viewfinder tends to pause and i have to wait before i can take the next picture. Which doesn't really happen with the default MIUI camera.
I've tried a couple, open, snap, htcfix, but yet to find one truly that's smooth. Any recommendations?
The cyanogenmod camera that comes stock with mokee/los seems to be working best for me. Have tried a bunch of camera apps and they all either have a ****ty UI or are functionally deficient in some way. Google camera would be great (love that HDR+) but it crashes when switching to video mode.

Yeah.. not sure why it is but the shutter lag just really kills me. I'm half tempted to go back to MIUI just for the camera. Best one for me i've tried so far is the HTC one.
Guess have to wait and see if Camera2 api makes any difference

I use Open Camera, it has a lot options to customize camera behaviour. I like it's UI.
Has anyone of u tested new ported MIUI camera on custom rom? i dont own anymore r4p but i see lot of u still have trouble with camera and recording.
just test this https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi...aomi-mi-a1-t3670607/post73732145#post73732145
for better results edit xml file to pass your device name.

Open camera is the best for photos, better than footej
