Hi, I've used Surge's upgrade from MK2/NC2 to NC5 method in order to install a deodexed stock version of kitkat, which went flawlessly. I do not have the MDK root so therefeore my bootloader is locked like many others. I booted into this stock ROM and installed safestrap recovery, booted into it, and installed HyperDrive RLS 16.1. It said successful, but now loops through the stock boot image and keeps looping. Help?
You are in the wrong section of the forum bro.

Hi everyone,
I have an i337 that was updated to NB1. I used the NB1 to MK2 downgrade method to root and install safestrap on my phone. I`ve been able to successfully only install deadly venom`s rom on the stock rom slot so far.
I tried installing version 25 of Goldeneye 4.4.2 along with the Super SU file, but it never gets past the boot animation. It hangs on the glowing Samsung logo and glowing blue LED. I`ve even done a full Odin back to the MK2 rom then wiped and reinstalled it. It keeps hanging on the splash screen. I just reinstalled Deadly Venom earlier to get my phone running again and that worked without a hitch.
I read that V25 doesn`t need me to edit the updater script like V24, so I skipped that. I also made sure to install the NB1 kernels with Odin and the ATT NB1 Modules zip in SS before performing a full system boot. Was there something else that needed to be done before booting up?
Anyone`s help would be appreciated.
So I just attempted to flash my S4 into a newer version. My build is S4 sgh 1337 MK2 from att and I was trying to update to KK so I could install the Hyperdrive rom. I have all my files, and following the instructions it had said that I had to upgrade the baseband from MK2 to NC5. Sure, so I had downloaded a stock rom for NC5 and in the instructions it had said to wipe everything (data, cache, dalvik cache) on the main stock slot (I'm using Safestrap 3.73) and afterwards tried flashing the upgrade but it said unable to open zip file. So I just thought maybe if I swipe to factory reset and then boot up it'll boot up just like new. It didn't, and now I'm stuck on a boot loop or so it seems (It doesn't go through the Samsung Galaxy S4 screen). How can I get out of this? Did I brick it? I was excited to install the rom, and I had read the guide a thousand times and was sure it would work but it didn't.

Check that thread. Follow the instructions under return to stock/Odin. I think nb1 is the best option so you can use towelroot afterwards. I'm pretty sure nc5 is not for an att phone.
I was able to downgrade the phone to NB1 and root it with Towelroot, and used Safestrap in order to get recovery on the device.
After that, I booted into recovery and installed the GPE 5.0.1 ROM.: http://galaxys4root.com/t-mobile-galaxy-s4-roms/gpe-android-5-0-1-lollipop-rom-for-galaxy-s4/
Now the phone will not go past the S4 splash page, reboots and then goes into the stock recovery. Ive tried factory reset, clearing cache and removing the battery.
Any help is appreciated. I bought this phone for my fiance and am wanting to give it to her soon as a present.
Thank you so much in advance.
I think the problem is that you downgraded.

I couldnt install towelroot on the 4.4.4 version it came with since it said device wasnt supported.
I was following these instructions: http://www.droidviews.com/root-att-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337-android-4-4-4-kitkat-firmware-i337ucufnj4/
It states to downgrade, then root, then go back to the 4.4.4. I thought after the steps I took, I could go straight to a custom ROM.
Thanks
I used CF-Auto-Root to root my device. Since towelroot didn't work for me either.
Maybe the rom did not flash right. Try flashing again.
problem in installing lollipop rom india to samsung i9500
I have installed the newly released lollipop rom to my samsung i9500 through odin. it was successfully flashed but the phone cant restart, it stuck with samsung written on the screen and blue light on...what i should do???
Hello all,
I am looking for some advice, on getting my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 working again. I will keep this as short as I can:
I originally had 4.3 rooted with the MK2 firmware, and used Odin to flash my phone to 4.4 NB1, using the ROM in the Guide to Stock/Updating/Rooting thread.
This worked fine, and I was able to boot and use the phone, but my root access was gone.
I tried Towelroot, Kingo, etc... to no success.
I then followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692825 thread to semi downgrade to MK2 and was able to obtain root again. I also installed Safestrap recovery.
At this point I could not successfully boot back into the phone, though I could access Safestrap.
I flashed the stock kernel for NB1 again, but still could not boot.
I then flashed the stock NB1 ROM again.
After this, the phone would show the android icon and a progress bar, then restart, reach the Samsung load screen, start the AT&T load screen and then boot loop.
Once I reached this point, I could no longer access recovery, only download mode.
In my attempts since then. I've found if I stop the phone from ever getting to the Samsung load screen after flashing the stock ROM, I can then access recovery. As soon as I let it boot, I cannot access recovery.
I've flashed the stock ROM multiple times at this point, gotten into recovery and wiped the devices then rebooted multiple times.
I just don't know what else I can do.
Does anyone have any ideas? A place to look? Any help appreciated!
Hey All,
I have been out of the scene for a number of months now, and I'm trying to get my S4 back to life on a custom rom (Goldeneye happens to be my pick).
Currently, my S4 is running Android 5.0.1 on what I believe is a stock rooted rom. Safe-Strap IS installed, and I've been using the NC1 Flasher method to get back into Safe-Strap.
Inside of the GE thread, in the Q&A Section, there is a link for "AT&T SAFESTRAP USERS ONLY!!" , which describes a process of using the NC1 flasher to get into Safe Strap, installing GE with all of the 'SafeStrap' options, then flashing modules. Followed by ODIN'ing two files for the Stock Kernal / Partitions.
Trouble is, after following the above steps to (what I believe was) a T, My phone just boots back into my stock rooted ROM as if nothing happened.
The only thing I can consider, is that when I'm in SafeStrap, am I supposed to use a ROM slot, or just the default slot? The last time I used SafeStrap, the purpose was to keep your stock rom intact. Is that not the case on the S4?

I'm pretty sure only the stock slot will work. I haven't tried a ROM slot for a very long time, but have run many custom ROMs in the stock slot without issue. Good luck.
